Virgin Road lyrics

Virgin Road

Kanji
Quote:

AyUmIXx 15th September 2010 06:40 AM

thanks for sharing..
wanna know what it's all about :)

njanjayrp 15th September 2010 07:13 AM

Apparently she is grateful for someone's love in the moments when she was feeling lonely and hurt XD I can understand some of those lines pretty well, which means the lyrics are relatively simple ^^ Though it doesn't seem like a typical love song, but let's wait for someone to translate it~ Could this be the Kikuchi Who II song?

C+R+E+AYUMI 15th September 2010 07:43 AM

to me it's about universal love, i believe she ha dvery bad moments after her love story broke up and her whole life changed although she kept working hard and maybe she's grateful to all the people that supported and encouraged her

freedreamer 15th September 2010 07:50 AM

I think Sweet Seasons sounds more like Who II...this is definietly the "forgiveness+BALLAD" of 2010 ahhaha..I love the chorus so muchh!!! The song seems short. 2 chorus and thats it. I wonder how its gonna build up. I think with a song like that, the action PV is gonna be erally dramatic.

aura~ 15th September 2010 08:04 AM

I can detect one of that sentences she uses so much: "...the day I saw tears for the first time..."

Can't wait for a translation =)

Bigtop 15th September 2010 08:29 AM

I can't wait for the translation!!!

Misa-chan 15th September 2010 10:52 AM

A rough translation. I'm not really good at word fluorishes and stuff, so sorry if it doesn't sound very artistic. :P

Edits: Mittki, tenshi no hane

Quote:

Hey, all this while, the loneliness, the pain, the guilt
And love. For all these, with my heart, "Thank you"

Hey, all this while, the things which I could not say
uh- If I had the words, for this life, "Thank you"

That day, when I didn't treasure myself
The one who got hurt, was not me

I can't forget the day when
I first saw tears on that always cheerful profile

I met someone who said "I love you, and want to protect you"
From now on, the two of us will set off together
No matter what sadness we'll face, what happiness we'll meet
No matter if we're apart, we promised to live on together
So please watch over me

Hey, from now on, everything which may happen
uh- I'll be grateful for it, from now till forever, "Thank you"

There were also nights when we argued, cried, yelled
And ran away from home

Even so, in the end, someday,
I will be understood by someone. I know that

I feel that the person you met and fell in love with in those days
Is somehow similar to the person whom I love now

I feel that the person you met and fell in love with in those days
Is somehow similar to the person whom I love now
Like that impulsive behaviour, I feel like I've known it before
When I noticed that, a single tear, so very warm,
Traced down my cheek

Hey, all this while, the loneliness, the pain, the guilt
And love. For all these, with my heart, "Thank you"

fuawas 15th September 2010 11:55 AM

Aderianu 15th September 2010 12:35 PM

now I understand why everyone who listened the preview cried

freedreamer 15th September 2010 12:35 PM

I really like how the last 2 lines seem to be speaking to not just a loved one, but also to her fans...it's so sweet and touching. I feel like when I read it, it's as though...I'm feeling it so strongly..

toniayu 15th September 2010 12:42 PM

this song is so touching:luv2 i love this lyrics!!

njanjayrp 15th September 2010 01:24 PM

Thanks Misa-chan. A few lines reminded me of YOU. Well it's not a typical lovely dovely ballad, so I guess that's a good thing :)

majrakun 15th September 2010 01:28 PM

The lyrics are really sweet! I love how they're not over-the-top heads-over-heels love lyrics too.

Quote:

That day, when I didn't treasure myself
The one who got hurt, was not me
How nice it would be if people were to realise this <3

AyUmIXx 15th September 2010 01:31 PM

i have listened to the ringtone again..
it does have sad feeling on the music and the way ayu sang it..
hmmm.. guess that it's not really a lovey dovey song~

chestergringo 15th September 2010 01:35 PM

Thanks for lyrics !!!

waterballoon 15th September 2010 01:38 PM

Thanks for the lyrics & translation.. reli sweet!

Midori-chan 15th September 2010 01:46 PM

The lyrics are so beautiful once again!

I reli like it that nearly all of Ayu's lyrics are so bittersweet. They're hopeful, but sad and somtimes very desperate at the same time.
They never fail to move me!!

THANK YOU VERY MUCH for the translation, Misa!!

AyuGAME 15th September 2010 01:55 PM

Quote:

That day, when I didn't treasure myself
The one who got hurt, was not me
i like this line too...
but not really clear with the meaning...
can someone explain it for me please?

aura~ 15th September 2010 02:11 PM

^I think she means that she did sth to herself for not feeling confident, and that thing didn't hurt her but the one who loved her... Sometimes we don't realise we hurt the ones that love us.. I think it's that...

Mmm, after reading the lyrics and listening again to the preview, as ayumixx said, it's not a loveydovey song... I got a feeling that it's like "walking proud".. not that they are similar or sth, but I think both are grand, epic ballads, and both WP and VR lyrics are not sad and desperate, neither lovely sweet... but bittersweet...

I'll cry if virgin road is as perfect as walking proud is for me T____T

AyUmIXx 15th September 2010 02:15 PM

^ yea...i thought that i wanna put this song for my pre-wed pics slide show LOL..but after hearing the preview ringtone again.. it doesn't seem right to be in a wedding after all..haha~ if we just read the lyric without knowing how the song sounds like... it's definitely like a love song, therefore i was so excited just now lol~.. but after hearing the music/song, it gives a totally different feeling...like aura~ said.. it's a bittersweet kind of song.. maybe like a song wishing of a perfect relationship?

OyTony 15th September 2010 02:19 PM

Maybe Virgin Road will get the action PV. Ayu will maybe hurt herself or something.

Mirrorcle Monster 15th September 2010 02:36 PM

OMG amazing lyrics???

noisy_harmony 15th September 2010 02:44 PM

Not "OMG" type of lyrics but really honest and kind of touching. I'm glad it may become a song with message for fans and people who support her. Thanks for translation Misa-chan :)!

Mirrorcle World ~longing future~ 15th September 2010 03:15 PM

Thanks for the lyric and translation

ohsixthirty 15th September 2010 03:34 PM

honestly, ayumi's lyrics have been boring me a little bit lately...but these are pretty good! they're really touching and they feel very very honest.

i just wonder, who do you think she is singing about? is this about the end of her relationship with tomoya and meeting someone new who reminds her of him?

That's the feeling I get. I feel like with Together When... and Days this makes a really nice story. :yes

ohsixthirty 15th September 2010 04:00 PM

^and you know, every time ayumi writes lyrics like this i always wonder "omg, what does tomoya think about this?!"

it must be weird in some way to write such personal lyrics and have your thoughts out there for the world to hear, especially for someone like ayumi who only writes lyrics out of personal experience.

love in music 15th September 2010 04:08 PM

omg, did she meet someone new she's not telling us about? she sounds like she's in love again!

panda♥ 15th September 2010 04:11 PM

thanks for the translation, Misa! i agree that the lyrics are really sweet. it's still Ayu, but at the same time it feels kind of new. i wonder who the lyrics are about as well; it sounds like it's about a new guy. :lech

MiiSan 15th September 2010 04:58 PM

Beautiful lyrics... <3

I also hope it's a new guy in Ayu's life, I imagine it would make her really happy :innocent

MissElin_ 15th September 2010 04:58 PM

Aw very sweet lyrics indeed. Ayu made it again didn't she. ^__^

Jwiz 15th September 2010 05:21 PM

It's not about love in general anymore. Some mature, heartfelt and meticulously written lyrics here, and I feel that it somewhat appeals more to the young adults and older generations, no longer the adolescents :)

Not gonna listen to any previews...Waiting for the full song, and hopefully the melody & arrangement would be just as nice.

Mai82Go 15th September 2010 06:22 PM

Lyrics are beautiful. Thanks Misa-chan.

tenshi no hane 15th September 2010 06:22 PM

Ayu never fails in the lyric department. This is no exception. I wonder who's getting married though...?

Best solution would be to date another famous or at least rich person. But that man has to be extremely confident in his career. Hard to find, though, most guys would definitely feel threatened by the fame and the money. For Ayus private happiness I wish her a nice guy and marriage & kids if she wants them. For her professional career I don't want that, because she might take a break and never really come back then. To be honest, I just want her happy that's all.

ownsarai 15th September 2010 07:43 PM

I love the lyrics, they are so heartfelt and touching. I also wonder if this song refers to her relationship with Tomoya, and her meeting someone new. I wonder if Tomoya even speaks with Ayu anymore, they did say they were more like brother & sister than lovers. But I hope she did find someone who loves her for who she is. I'm sure this song will spark up all kinds of rumors that Ayu will have to answer sooner or later.

rakeru 15th September 2010 07:47 PM

Very sweet and very emotional. Can't wait to hear the song!

I don't know what else to say... there're no other words... beautiful lyrics!! ^0^

Kazeyomi 16th September 2010 01:15 AM

Wow Virgin Road lyrics are really touching, her best lyrics for a love song so far imo.
I hope arrangement comes out really good lol. I've high expectations for this song now :D

I wonder the same too when i read the lyric..
has she found someone? or it's just only her wish?
but Ayu really needs somebody who can love her entirely..

yamadashun 16th September 2010 01:39 AM

from the lyric, i guess it looks like a midtempo or ballad song @@

If she were so naive or gullible, I'm sure something like this would have happened before. She's never gonna let someone enter her life like that, she's in her early 30's, and if you've ever seen what a strangle hold she has on her career, you'd know she wasn't naive.

kiseki89 18th September 2010 06:37 PM

I read the lyrics before listening to the song and it is what i have expected, a little bit of sadness in the song.
Thank you for translating

isn't something a bit off in these lines? or am I just misunderstanding? When I read the Japanese, I understood it as the speaker talking to a confidante about her past lover and how they're similar to the speaker's (current) lover. In your translation, it seems like the speaker (who we assume is ayu) is romantically involved with a woman, considering the kanji ayu used for 'anata' (貴女).

natapan 18th September 2010 08:07 PM

omg... I thought it was the translation... :(

THX anywayyy

Bad Wolf 18th September 2010 08:14 PM

Wow, I just...

you know, there are some Ayu songs that haven't really hit a chord with me at the time I heard them, for one reason or another. Maybe I wasn't in the mood, or I couldn't relate to the lyrics. Maybe the melody and the composition wasn't my favorite, but this.. this is just like how I fell head over heels for fated. Every little thing about it just HITS me and, reading the words, translating bits that I can and seeing the graciously provided (and very pretty!) translation, I feel myself fighting back tears... It's like she's singing something I'm FEELING right now, word for word, picking every thought out of my head and making into into a song. It's eerie. ;_;

adry33 18th September 2010 08:47 PM

Thank u so much! the lyrics are RELI beautiful! and thank u too for the kanji and romaji lyrics!

Ryan_968 18th September 2010 09:44 PM

Virgin Road is the best song I've heard in a long time. Everything seemed to flow well together, though I feel like Ayu's voice is a little too deep for the composition at some points in the song, but ayu > someone else

I was reading 2ch when the lyrics came out and they thought that she wrote the song for her mom and was talking about how she loved her then / loves her the same now.. or something like that.

I know right? Something about these lyrics, despite still having that distinct 'Ayu touch', is really special. I can't quite put my finger on it but I sat there stunned after reading them. They are very simple but really powerful, and I think they take a few reads to really see the beauty in the words she chose.

I'm looking forward to seeing other translations to get a better grasp on their meaning.

I'm surprised Japanese people would interpret it that way. In Japan, virgin road = the wedding aisle. This is clearly a wedding song (and, ideally, should be the most profound statement of love).

truehappiness 19th September 2010 08:09 AM

The reason that they would interpret it as such though is because of "anata" having the 貴女 kanji instead of being just あなた. I guess she's directing the song towards a woman?

"I feel that the person you met and fell in love with in those days
Is somehow similar to the person who I love [now]"
