Duo's Biography

Hilcrhyme (ヒルクライム) is a Japanese hip-hop duo from Niigata Prefecture signed to Universal Music Japan. They are best known for their 2nd single Shunkashuutou, which was used as the ending theme for CDTV in September 2009.

The group's name is a portmanteau of the words "hill climb" and "rhyme".

Random Fact

Hilcrhyme had a hand in writing/composing a song titled Naiyou no Nai Tegami (内容の無い手紙) which's found as track #12 in NEWS's 2010's 4th album LIVE & it's really a song worth checking out as I feel the duo did such a great job by doing this for NEWS .

TOC wrote the lyrics for Naiyou no Nai Tegami while he co-composed it with KATSU :)

Please Cry was originally found in their demo album Nettaiya & that goes for their 1st major debut single Jun'ya to Manami too

Please Cry needs a few more listens on my part as it's not really catchy & I didn't like it ended so adruptly D:

I like Hilcrhyme. Not sure if I'm a fan, since I don't really like the MC's voice, but it's still nice, relaxing music.

but they're great , I can see why BREAKERZ's frontman DAIGO name dropped them & this caused his other catch phrase Kuraimu to surface this year too xD

Not to mention , I suppose people like me are waiting in anticipation for their 2nd album to be out on Nov 17th , which that might discourage people from buying their singles

Oh just so you know , their singles do not come with instrumentals , just like BREAKERZ so .__.

I love the PV for Travel Machine. It's really nicely done ♥ The song is nice too, especially the chorus.

#12 is still pretty good. For some reason they strike me as a band that does better on chaku-uta/dl charts (I have no proof though XD)

Just look at my numbers posted above. I think that pretty much proves that they do much better on the dl charts XD

So far , Jun'ya to Manami is the only PV that you can see TOC removing his sunshades after he belted out the 2nd chorus of the song

because I watched their PVs backwards , I had a shock when I saw that happened xD

Hip-hop duo Hilcrhyme has been quite busy lately, and they are showing no signs of slowing down. In fact, they have just announced the release of their second full album for November 24th.

They released their first full album, “Recital,” back in January, and it became an instant hit. It sold over 350,000 copies, and for the first half of 2010, it was ranked number 17 in album sales. Fans have since been anxiously waiting news of a follow-up album, and their wishes are about to come true.

The as-of-now untitled release will contain such hits as their “Yankee to Megane-chan” theme, “Loose Leaf,” “Daijoubu,” and “Travel Machine.” In total, the album will contain thirteen songs.

Hilcrhyme’s new album will be available in CD regular and CD + DVD versions. The DVD version will come packaged with the music videos for “Daijoubu,” “Loose Leaf,” and “Travel Machine.”

The duo is currently preparing for their biggest tour yet, and it’s scheduled to take them to 22 cities across Japan.

then again both artistes's haven't done what the other has . Like I haven't heard a Hilcrhyme song that's full blown rock while I haven't heard of a BREAKERZ no. that's hip hop/rap (except those epic Waratte Iitomo 'songs' DAIGO wrote/composed ~_~)

and it seems to work for them.

you really should watch Hilcrhyme's PVs . They're under Universal but I notice their record label bother to spend a bit more effort if not $ for their PVs , unlike other Universal artistes

If MESSAGE were to be released some other time, I would've thought they'd get #1. But since they're up against Utada, that's obviously not happening.

ah it's not fair , how come Shampoo's PV is not included in MESSAGE's DVD ? D: :grumpy

anyway it's 1 of my fave album tracks in MESSAGE so I wasn't surprised to see it get a PV & with it being the lead promo album track

I also like Moon Rise , BOYHOOD & MESSAGE BOX from the new album , I should be getting it next week as my Christmas present from Cherry Dynamite :D

Hilcrhyme celebrates release of “MESSAGE” with fan event

Yesterday, on November 28th, hip-hop duo Hilcrhyme held a special fan event at the Kawasaki Lazona to celebrate the release of their second original album, “MESSAGE.”

The venue was packed with fans for the special launch event. Members TOC and DJ KATSU put on quite the show and performed the album tracks “Daijoubu,” “Travel Machine,” “Shampoo,” as well as some other new songs for a total set of eight tracks. The two members were incredibly happy with the performance.

They commented afterwards, “We used to play lives in this venue, but only as an opening act. We would have to sell our CDs ourselves and maybe sell ten copies. It is a bitter memory, but today there are so many people who came for us, and our bitter memories are becoming good memories.”

After the live, they held a lottery for the fans in the audience with signed CDs and T-shirts as prizes. TOC closed out the event by saying, “I’m happy so many people came to see us for the first time today. We start our tour on January 9th, so please come see us when we stop nearby!

Hilcrhyme announces first single of 2011 “Okubyouna Ookami”

Hilcrhyme recently released their second hit album, “MESSAGE“, and this will be their first single since the album dropped.

The song is described as have pop essence, but MC TOC will still show off his rap skills to put emphasis on the song’s message. Overall it will be a new style for the duo.

The single will be available in the standard CD regular and DVD limited formats. The limited edition DVD will come with the music video for the title track and a special paper jacket design.
