Kara (카라, often stylized as KARA) is a girl group from South Korea signed with Daesung Entertainment (DSP).
The band name Kara comes from the Greek Word "chara" (χαρά, lit. "joy"), which the group interpreted to mean "sweet melody".

Kara started as a four-member group and debuted with their first album The First Blooming in 2007. In 2008, Kim Sunghee departed the group due to parental pressure, and two members were brought in; as such, the group consists of five members: Park Gyuri, Han Seung-yeon, Goo Hara, Nicole and Kang Jiyoung. The five-member band achieved their first number one song with "Honey". Other singles include "Pretty Girl", "Wanna", "Mister", and "Lupin."

Their Jumpin' performances keep getting better! I love watching them on Japanese music shows. It's always so funny. It was great to see the audience was LOVING them too. I'm so happy they're getting so popular there. Honestly, after they're done with Jumping promo in Korea, they should just pack their bags and focus solely on Japan. Why stay in a country that you're less popular and get less money/sales in?

^i hope that next year, they will focus alot more on japan and then return in november to korea to release a mini/album/single there :yes
they obviously have a much brighter future in japan, but i dont want them to just forget about korea :( i love all the special stages there!!! and the hype and much better covers

wow this is bad :no and they were at the peak of their careers. hopefully things can be resolved but if Gyuri is staying with DSP while the other 4 leave i'm not sure how they'd be able to work it out.

Idol groups certainly have a knack for doing this at the peak of their careers, huh : /

This is terrible. I guess it exposes the pop industry in a big way, and it's sad that this isn't the first time this has happened to a group.

I can't blame them for terminating. They were forced between two countries (+ other travel), learning a new language, promoting two albums, a single, appearing on radio and tv, filming a drama..all at the same time. I can't believe they were each paid less than .1% of their profits. It's over for sure with DSP, hopefully another agency will pick them up.

Apparently Gyuri's only still there because her parents wouldn't let her leave. In addition, her parents are trying to call her but she's not answering..at least that's what I just read. I hope she's alright.

oh that's awful , but i'm on their side, becausei hate when the agencies use their artists as a tool to make money D: ! , but i don't think Gyuri would leave KARA since she doesn't know about terminating their contract with DSP .
