Be A Heavy Metal Lover In Lady Gaga's 11th Thread

Welcome to Lady Gaga's 11th thread

Who is Lady Gaga?
Spoiler:
Lady Gaga is an American electro-pop singer best known for her hit songs Poker Face and Bad Romance. Debuting in 2008, her first single Just Dance reached #1 in 6 countries and top 10 in over 15 countries. Her next single, Poker Face, reached #1 in 20 countries. In the UK, Poker Face was the #14th biggest selling single of the decade. Her first album, The Fame, garnered much critical acclaim for its retro style and Lady Gaga’s vocals. She gained more fans with the release of The Fame Monster, an eight track EP coupled with The Fame. The lead single from the EP, Bad Romance, has sold over 9.7 million copies worldwide. In 2011, she released Born This Way, the first single from her 2nd studio album. Judas followed, and The Edge of Glory, which she performed at the American Idol finale. With the release of the promotional single Hair, Gaga has four singles in the UK top 20, thus establishing the new record for most singles in the top 20 at once for a female artist. Quickly becoming the most anticipated album of 2011, Born This Way has been the subject of hype and has lived up to it with critical acclaim and sold over 200,000 copies in the first day, making it the fastest selling album of 2011 so far.

LOL awkward inclusion. Who cares? It's not like you did it at 400 posts. Artists threads shouldn't be a 'competition.'

As far as the album goes... other than BTW and Judas, I only really like Marry the night. Oh and just when I thought I was getting used to the cover, seeing it in real life EVERYWHERE has made it so, so, sooo much worse. :laugh

CHE.R.RY 27th May 2011 11:48 PM

^ Yeah I kinda know what you mean lol. I never liked the cover that much in the first place but when I was getting ready to buy the album & saw the cover in person...well, I pretty much changed my mind instantly & went with the special edition (the lesser of the two evils :laugh). Btw, nice thread title :D!

I know, I thought I could get used to it, but it's just not happening...

AyUta 28th May 2011 01:44 AM

So, in Scheibe, is she really just speaking jibberish? People are saying that she;s not speaking german at all, but...idk.

We need a German speaker to confirm this.

jbrat2219 28th May 2011 02:42 AM

It sounds like a mix of multiple languages.

NintendoHTF1242 28th May 2011 05:51 AM

I think it's multiple languages.

wildconnetta 28th May 2011 08:46 AM

@AyUta: She is speaking in German (Ich lieben, Schiebe, Fraulein), English and probably French (there are accented 'e' characters in there).

Yukitora 28th May 2011 09:39 AM

Well at least she's upfront in the song "I don't speak German but I wish I could" :yes

Contrary to my previous thoughts, I personally love the SE cover! But I prefer the normal edition tracklist :thud

Miku 28th May 2011 10:41 AM

Her new album Born this Way is awesome but I liked Judas the most on the album. :)

George 28th May 2011 12:44 PM

I love Scheisse so much, I'm quite addicted to it.

AyUta 28th May 2011 09:03 PM

Ah okay! I knew I heard French in there somewhere! :laugh

Daggi_X 29th May 2011 01:44 AM

I tried to translate some of the non-german words using google but didn't get any results :laugh
So apart from those few German words, Scheiße really seems to be gibberish (unless somebody here can identify the non-german words, google couldn't apparently...)

JackieRos 29th May 2011 02:07 AM

I hate sheibe idk why

And to comment, the release was hyped up a little. I admit, I was caught up in it. But now, I think that this release is just alright. I don't get why Gaga was saying this was the album of the decade lol. Not very close to that. It's an enjoyable album no doubt, just a tad overhyped.

It's called advertisement. And looking at those sales...it worked.

NintendoHTF1242 29th May 2011 09:11 AM

^ Lmao it sure did.

I wonder what the fourth single will be. I can't imagine hearing any of the other songs on the radio, tbh. Maybe Marry the Night.

koumori 29th May 2011 09:16 AM

I'm thinking either Marry the Night or Highway Unicorn. I'd love Bloody Mary to be one but I don't know if it's mainstream enough to sell.

Minttulatte 29th May 2011 01:35 PM

I love Born This Way. I took a small break from listening to it and now I'm listening to it again. Magical masterpiece <3

The word "clair" is french, means "clear", but that's all, I can't see any other French word in this song :)

There's a French sentence is Bloody Mary (je ne veux pas mourir toute seule, I don't wanna die alone), but she wrote "mourire" in the booklet, too bad she made a mistake xD

JackieRos 29th May 2011 02:47 PM

for me is not the album of the decade but that doesn't take away the glory of BTW

Is an awesome album filled with awesome songs and I'm in peace with cover.
I hate the cover but it doesn't bother me that much anymore.
This album does take you some time to fall in love with it.

My ultimate favorite song and mv is Judas

ストロボ・EdGE 29th May 2011 05:42 PM

:laugh
I noticed that too ...

wildconnetta 29th May 2011 08:57 PM

I hope that Heavy Metal Lover isn't the fourth single as even it is an awesome song, it would fail on the charts (and I prefer it as an album track).

Marry the Night would be a good choice, and Hair as fifth. But some songs (Bloody Mary, Heavy Metal Lover, Government Hooker, Scheibe, Electric Chapel) are too awesome to be singles.

Is it bad that I'm not the least bit surprised or impressed? lol. Don't get me wrong, good for her, but at this point Gaga selling over million copies of this over-hyped album in the first week is kind of like saying water will be wet tomorrow.

bondingo 30th May 2011 01:37 AM

Those sales are great! I'm so happy that it sold so well. I agree that it isn't "album of the decade" material, but it's still a damn good album and still probably the best of 2010-11 in my opinion.

Taru86 30th May 2011 05:20 AM

After having the special edition 'Born This Way' for a full week now, I must say that I am crazy in love with it! I've serioulsy listened to it at least twice a day since I bought it. This is an album where I love every single track. I think my favorite track might be 'Marry The Night' or 'Judas' but I can't I'm not sure because all the tracks are so good!! I also think that the end of the album is super epic, 'Highway Unicorn' through 'The Edge of Glory' is pure musical perfection!!! :luv2

jbrat2219 30th May 2011 06:28 AM

I'm giving Marry the Night another chance, I rather like it but not as much as my current favs.

Yukitora 30th May 2011 06:35 AM

I wish we had day-to-day sales, so we could predict longevity...

I was thinking as well I don't know which one would work best on radio. Scheibe has the best chorus I think but all the gibberish of different language(s) might not work so well on radio.

ll moments ll 30th May 2011 12:54 PM

i think "Marry the Night" would probably be the "best" option for the 4th single? i..just can't imagine the other songs to be somewhat mainstream friendly. i love "Government Hooker" and "Scheisse," but i can't imagine them being popular.

"I don't think there's many radio friendly songs on this album... "

Yeah it really isn't, with the exception of Marry the Night. I feel this album is best listened too in one sitting straight through; it's almost similar to a concept album in it's flow.

jbrat2219 1st June 2011 06:45 AM

I was just listening to SCHEISSE, and I'm not sure if many will get this reference, but does anyone else think this song would be a perfect RuPaul Drag Race theme song? It's all I think of when I hear it. It's about girl-power and everything... I don't know xD;

I didn't like her that much but the last cd "Born this way" is totally awesome. I love it so much.

Larisa-chan 2nd June 2011 03:28 AM

I loved The Fame... still my favorite album by her, I think there are so many amazing songs on it!

This album... I think it's pretty awful. Sounds like bad (and ripped off!) 80s music, not really catchy at all. There isn't a single song I could rave about, except maybe Heavy Metal Lover. Government Hooker, Bloody Mary and Electric Chapel are pretty decent. I don't really like the direction she took and I agree with the person who says she's become too weird, hahaha. She can do what she wants, but I will forever live in my little bubble of The Fame era and watch the 2008 Miss Universe pageant swimsuit competition section where I first watched Lady Gaga!!!

AyuHamasaki01 2nd June 2011 03:23 PM

Does anyone else hear "run run with her twitter" too in Highway Unicorn? (00:24)

xD

TITANIC 2nd June 2011 03:32 PM

Marry the night would be great for the next single

JackieRos 2nd June 2011 04:48 PM

I think people like more mellows songs as singles than like popish singles

Yukitora 2nd June 2011 05:20 PM

I like pressing play on Marry The Night, but the song makes no sense to me, I just don't get it. It doesn't sound like its going anywhere lyrically or musically for that matter, until the very very end.

Most sucessful singles I see would be Hair (it's already had some positive reception), Bloody Mary (a fan favourite, and the most TFM-like song), and Bad Kids (most radio-friendly song? I love it).

brener 2nd June 2011 05:40 PM

my top 5 so far
1. heavy metal lover
2. bad kids
3. highway unicorn
4. electric chapel

My Top 5
1. Heavy Metal Lover
2. Highway Unicorn
3. Bloody Mary
4. Judas

amorphose 6th June 2011 07:20 AM

Fixed it! It's Born This Way Deluxe Edition & the 5,000 copy limited vinyl edition of the Born This Way single!

kendelle 6th June 2011 03:28 PM

I've really enjoyed BTW, although it took 2-3 listens for me to feel that way :P I've had it on constant repeat since the day I bought it (release day!) and I'd say it's my favourite of her albums to date :3

My favourites are Judas, Marry the Night, Bloody Mary, Scheibe, Electric Chapel, The Edge of Glory and Government Hooker. I thought this album's singles were closer to her pre-debut stuff, which is a nice change. Gaga does amazing ballads, I wish a ballad version of Born This Way had made it onto the album instead of the "remixes"........man, I hate those xD I always hate western remixes though, they just sound so damn bland when compared to stuff you get from Ayu, Kuu etc ;_;

Yukitora 7th June 2011 05:11 AM

^ What do you think of the Jost & Naaf remix of BTW? I reckon it's absolutely brilliant. At first I was a little pissed it was added as a bonus track to the international (aussie) version of the album, but I like it so much I always finish the album with it.

The Twin Shadow BTW remix is also really fun, it's the polar opposite to the Jost remix. BTW is just a really good song to remix haha.

Zahara 7th June 2011 08:16 AM

I'm not a fan of remixes, but I thought it would have been cool if she did acoustic versions of some of the songs.

Mirai Noah 7th June 2011 07:12 PM

My Top 5
1. The Edge of Glory
2. Marry the Night
3. Highway Unicorn (Road to Love)
4. Hair
5. Electric Chapel

From the deluxe edition I also really like The Queen.

waterballoon 7th June 2011 07:17 PM

reading all these praises make me feel afraid, but i'll still say it.

i don't like this album... at all. the only songs I can stand listening are Born This Way, Judas, Hair, The Edge of Glory

the rest sound like a random mesh of sound with some of the messiest arrangements I've heard... it reminds me of why I didn't like Ayu's I am... album.. am I weird or something, sorry = /

jbrat2219 7th June 2011 07:36 PM

Everyone has their own opinion, which is half the reason we have artist threads :tipsy For finding her news, and sharing opinions/bantering etc

I'm sorry you don't like the album, but happy you like some of the songs :yes Maybe the others songs might grow on you :)

NintendoHTF1242 8th June 2011 12:50 AM

This album is really messing with me. When I first heard it, it was like, perfect. Then I listened to it, and I didn't like it. Then I listened to it again, and I like it! Americano was the best song to me, but now it's just okay. I was obsessed with SchieBe, but now that's okay. Black Jesus + Amen Fashion I disliked, but now I like it.

But overall, the best songs are Born This Way and Judas.

SURREAL__RAINBOW 8th June 2011 04:24 AM

Same thing happened to me lol Right now I'm like taking a "break" from listening to it since I listened way too much already

Still obsessed with Heavy Metal Lover though, love ittt.

The Edge of Glory is chosen for the Japanese Drama "Jiu"! :heart

JackieRos 9th June 2011 06:34 AM

I been listening to heavy metal lover and judas like crazy.

Judas is in my heart.

zellyx 10th June 2011 04:37 AM

I started learning the dance yesterday.

I'd say Americano, Heavy Metal Lover, Scheibe, and Judas are my top. Oh and Born this Way.

Minttulatte 10th June 2011 05:21 PM

I feel like a bad Gagastan lol. :D I haven't listened to BTW for a long time now. Maybe I will again when I get over my Ayu obsession :D

JackieRos 14th June 2011 05:22 AM

How do you guys interpret Judas?

From the video I see that she's willing to protect Jesus no matter what but there is that weakness Judas,
she knows she's not supposed to feel anything for him but she can't help it and she feels devastated.
Jesus is her first but on the side is Judas.

Yukitora 16th June 2011 07:26 AM

Well the song all hinges on the words "but I'm still in love with Judas baby"

Gaga explained in the Extra interview she sings that with two different meanings. The first is that she keeps falling back in love with boys that are bad for her (obvious meaning). The second one (which seems as a response to the religious criticisms) is that there are most people just write Judas off as Jesus' betrayer and forget who was himself totally in love with Jesus before and after the betrayal. The reason why Jesus and LG (Mary) are still love Judas is because they knew that the betrayal was part of God's overarching plan.

JackieRos 16th June 2011 03:45 PM

I was asking how would one interpret the song.

NintendoHTF1242 16th June 2011 07:53 PM

My interpretation of the song is like Lady Gaga's explanation really. Embracing the dark to find the light. This man she loves is really bad for her, but she's okay with that.

ストロボ・EdGE 17th June 2011 03:55 AM

This is a ****ing travesty.

Eh Eh's video even has more passion, honesty and energy than this BS. Talk about a rushed, lazy video.

milky_way 17th June 2011 04:04 AM

I liked the concept from the Google Chrome ad better :/
Should've been 5 minutes of that :yes

ストロボ・EdGE 17th June 2011 04:14 AM

It was just... bad. She had on a similar outfit to what she wore during the SNL performance and then she literally just danced around on a set. The End.

It doesn't even have to have eye catching effects like BTW or be flashy like Judas... If it had substance that would have been enough. We know you're a New York girl Gaga, but this doesn't really say much about that anyway.

Apparently the original concept was scrapped (which was filmed with dancers etc.) and they did this rush job in like a day.

CHE.R.RY 17th June 2011 04:25 AM

The video was just ok...not as interesting as Judas :o. Although I'm likin' the outfit she's wearin. Was it just me or did it seriously look like her boob was about to fly out at 3:38? xD

I think I'm over it now. I didn't even like the song in the first place.

I'm glad it's doing good on the charts though. Better than Judas at least, and it wasn't even an official single for a while.

zellyx 17th June 2011 05:03 AM

Dang, I like the mood of the video but that's about it..
Not a fan of the new hair. Always liked the longer blonde hair.
Wish there was some plot or dance :(
I liked Judas' video.
BTW Mv's..
Judas > Born this way > Edge of Glory

Am I the only one who prefers Alejandro, which her fans peg as her worst video, to any video she's made this era? :laugh

you are not alone. alejandro is her best video IMO. nothing comes close, not even bad romance or judas, which are pretty damn good.

NintendoHTF1242 17th June 2011 07:55 AM

I imagined the music video to be a bit more magical, since the song is so...different (to me anyway).

hightea_xx 17th June 2011 08:46 AM

its really telling how bad this video is when the only thing perez can say about the video is "check it out!".

kendelle 17th June 2011 09:08 AM

I didn't think much of TEoG =| I was expecting something more "epic" than what I saw. Although I'm glad it wasn't just her huffing a bunch of drugs xD I was really hoping for something a little more interesting than grinding on the guard railings and thrusting skyward.... :(

Something with her in more epic scenery, hanging from stuff, standing on a cliff maybe.......anything would have been more engaging than that!!

I would say my fave MVs are Paparazzi and Alejandro out of all of them.

The Twin Shadow BTW remix is also really fun, it's the polar opposite to the Jost remix. BTW is just a really good song to remix haha.

I can't deny that the Jost remix is my favourite. The opening is really amazing and sets it apart from all the others I've listened to before.

However after the first verse/chorus it suffers the same fate as all the remixes. It no longer diversifies itself from the original track, sounding like a slightly different beat to the original track and the vocals don't sound changed at all. That's the main reason why I can't help but feel that all western remixes suck xD

Minttulatte 17th June 2011 12:13 PM

That was a simple music video, nuff said. There was something about it that I actually liked but I can't put it to words now at all. But I think that from this era her best music video will always be Judas. That's just gorgeus <3

koumori 17th June 2011 12:13 PM

Idk, most people ask for simplicity and when she gives it...

My opinion is that whilst not an exciting, nor really that interesting, PV - it'll show people she's not always so intense, like with the others. Most Western PV's shown on TV here are like that. To the general public, who obviously don't care as much as Gaga fans about her PV's, they'll probably find it more accessable. She looked really beautiful in it anyway.

zoomzoom 17th June 2011 01:27 PM

I guess I'll be in the minority but I thought the video was perfect. It's exactly what I've been missing from her.

This didn't have any gimmicks, no attempts at being controversial or revolutionary. It was a simple, good looking video for a simple, slightly generic pop song. And it fits.

tokyoxjapanxfan 17th June 2011 01:41 PM

Honestly, it was refreshing. I know it's still early in her career to say this, but eventually, I don't see how she can continue to top herself if every new video is better than the previous (Or, you know, made with that intent in mind, even if fans think otherwise).

I really liked just seeing her, who albeit is still very stylized, dancing around. It reminded me of Rent hehe. At one point when she's dancing we see a shot of her smiling and it was just really really nice...

^ Oh and I agree. On a side note, Poker Face is still her best video, imo. haha. Maybe it's just because it's so iconic. :tipsy

Where are the soldiers, the doctors and the "Enrique Iglesias" type of guy?
