On the 27th, a photo exhibition was held for the Great Tohoku Earthquake charity photobook “LOVE&HOPE”, which will be released on June 1st. The event was held at Omotesando Hills’ “Space Oh”. Hamasaki Ayumi (32), who graces the front cover of the photobook, and Sawajiri Erika (25) were among many in attendance.

The exhibition featured photographs from Singaporean photographer Leslie Kee (40), who took the portraits of beautiful women from 32 countries around the world. Hamasaki walked the venue with Kee and listened attentively as he explained some 200 pictures which feature women such as Lady Gaga (25) and Beyonce (29). Hamasaki met with Sawajiri before leaving and the two smiled and shook hands as Sawajiri nervously introduced herself with “I’m Erika”.

Later, Hamasaki posted a picture of herself, Lesie and Sawajiri on Twitter. She wrote, “Alright! It’s raining in Osaka! This is my real ability (as a rain girl). Going to the 1st day at Jo-hall!!! But before that, please let this cute picture of Erika-chan make you feel better ☆”. (TL Note: Hamasaki is known as a “rain girl”, which is someone whose presence seems to bring rain)

It's called being a celebrity. A female solo artist, with no previous connections to the industry - you're naive as to think she stayed on top with just a cute face and some nice lyrics. Ayu is also a businesswoman, and a good one at that. Also, she has said before she was being handled more as a "product" of Avex for a while. I'm not blind that fame and staying in the spotlight is half of being a successful singer.

Ayu didn't "sell her soul" for fame. She did what every other successful celebrity has to, to keep themselves - and their work - in the spotlight. To write this on this topic is actually pretty off-topic, and I'm not surprised you're being called a troll for it. It's people like you, who watch biased videos like this, and then go around preaching that you know "the truth". It's kind of sad.

If you really want to know the truth, think about the bigger picture, shut up, and decide whether you have a brain or not. Here wasn't the place to talk about this, and if you wanted a serious debate, try doing your own topic or getting off a fan forum for Ayumi Hamasaki.

And for the record, this topic - and those videos - have been debated, picked-apart and rehashed about a hundred times. Move on with your old news.

I like Erika, I always admired her *****y "betsu ni" attitude. There are enough idols around that just try to please and play the cute girl-next-door all the time. Erika was not afraid to swim against the current and say if she didn't like something/felt not like smiling at everything, very brave especially in Japan. And she's sexy in that pic with Ayu. I also believe that a lot of people talk her down, but secretly think she's cool. :D

She's an actress best known for taking the lead part in the drama 1 Litre of Tears. She's quite famous. Also, she was involved in a "scandal" that has dented her image in the last year or so, but has been improving it actively this year.

The scandal was in regards to her divorce, I believe, as it's still looked down on for Japanese women *_* as well as an instance when she was interviewed at a movie premiere or something and came off as uninterested.

ok... if i say im a raingirl, that means i sold my soul? maybe i meant that i'm offering myself to the world b/c i want to give abundant love in a selfless manner, not necessarily selling myself to boost an industry. i understand ayu's public persona (as i don't know her personally to say i understand 'her') as someone who gives herself without regard to herself, independent of her lyrics, her work, her whereabouts, and someone who never seemed to want something in return in the form of a spotlight, in other words, fame. she came into this outside of her will, thus she used it to initiallyjust to save her a$$ (psychologically to be specific), and eventually found some compassion out of it as a gift she can offer to the world so they can live on like she did.

so... selling her soul? like, seriously? for someone who writes her own dayum words? who knows what's truly up for Ayumi Hamasaki in particular, but i think the most important thing is--let us decide for ourselves. don't choke your understandings down our throats.

The scandal is four years old but it's still relevant to her career and image. She is still known for it and judged by it - hence why people discuss it. It's not anti-Erika to do so, it's just discussing a pivotal moment in her career and image. :/

Well in that case, let me link all the videos and articles of her improving her career, which in that case would be completely off-topic. I'm just tired of Erika-haters using this as a free bash session :rolleyes Like seriously, as an Erika fan I understand it was a "huge moment" etc, but in retropect it's only because the media went all crazy over it. In reality, not such a big deal. The amount of times Western artists and actresses have been rude and totally just said "Oh, bad day sorryyyy :laugh", and Erika has to deal with the backlash for years. I was stating it's incredibly unfair to a talented actress, not stating that it should never be discussed. It should of been forgotten, rightly so - I can name much bigger scandals tbh - but whatever, if people want to rehash old facts, let them.

I really like her attitude. There are enough Idols smiling, laughing and playing a role everytime a camera flicks on. Erika is doing her thing, she's risking her carrer to change something and that, IMO, is something I respect.

Trust me, I am well aware of her efforts to improve her career - because she appears enough on news sites. Evidently, she isn't being very successful at reviving her reputation, as this thread proves.

If someone wanted to hate on Erika properly they'd talk about divorce, not the attitude she had in that interview. Those who don't follow celebrity news like you or I? This one incident is what she is known for. And isn't anything only an incident because of the media? I imagine plenty of horrible out of place or whatever things have been said with no backlash - as there was no media presence.

Most of the comments about Erika and the incident are because scandals are remembered over positive things you do. I'm indifferent to her personally, I've never seen her act and I've only seen news from both pro and anti Erika. I like what she's trying to do - change the industry, I just think she's doing it the wrong way. By meeting Ayu maybe she'll see how to both be independent and deal with backlash effectively so something like the interview doesn't happen again.

The video of her comments was posted because somebody didn't know what the incident with her was.

All I was trying to point out is that, for you, as an Erika fan, what appears as old news is in fact the ONLY thing a lot of people know about her. Fans, such as yourself, can correct them all you want but it's irrelevant when her own attempts aren't being successful to win back her favour.

In my opinion, it's going to be a 'big deal' until she becomes known for something else - releases a hit song, stars in something big. It's just the way things work. It's not fair, but hey, the media isn't fair..

I'm not trying to argue with you, I just... have a lot to say about her haha I'm sorry if I came off as confrontational, I don't intend to, it just happens because I'm quite forceful in my opinions.

On topic. I really love Erika's dress and hair. She looks really cute, but really elegant. Not too fond of Ayu's look here, she looks cute, but the outfit isn't as nice as Erika's. It's 'cause Erika has nicer hair here for me. I'm so biased towards hair.

Celebrities are humans, before anything. That people decides to put them on a pedestal is different, but they are not better than us. They're really good at what they do, but they have as many flaws as we have and they're NOT better than us. They also have the right to feel pain, sadness and anger, like any of us can feel at some point. celebrity industry pretends to hide the fact that they cannot act perfectly at all times, and force people to act like angels creates hypocrites and robots. This "should be" only provokes the human mind go nuts. Nobody has the right to act like a human being or they punish you. You made a mistake,of course, you should apologize, and you let go! who cares anyway? that people still remembers her for that is so lame. We do live too attached to the past.

Anyway, i'm afraid i don't like ayu's short hair -____________-U i prefer it long. But it's actually cool she was on the cover, i bet she's really proud ;)
