If Ayu was to make an album of songs remade in English...

to launch some sort of "International career", what would your dream tracklisting be? No more than 14 songs.

RayJason 20th July 2011 11:04 PM

Oh no :laugh I love her Japanese, that's one of the reasons why I listen to her :P Her english is not that good to actually sing with, But these are a few I wouldn't mind hearing in English:

"Rule, M, Mirrorcle World *since the translation of this one is rather strange* and Days."

JackieRos 20th July 2011 11:32 PM

It wouldn't be my cup of tea but I would say all RAINBOW songs because her English sounds nice in it.

I love her English, I think is perfect but nah

NintendoHTF1242 20th July 2011 11:37 PM

Sparkle would be hot in English

I sincerely hope this doesn't happen, but if she had to re-record songs in English, I agree with JackieRos--the RAINBOW album is a really good choice. :)

She'd probably end up doing some of her ~classics. "Who..." or "Boys & Girls" were already performed in other languages (at least one verse of "Boys & Girls" ...right? At the Asia Song Festival a few years ago? Did I just make that up?).

jkm444 21st July 2011 01:29 AM

None! It will sound weird! A lot of the emotion of the songs will be lost since English is not her native language.

ExodusUK 21st July 2011 01:57 AM

Well if it had to happen, what would your ideal tracklist be. I'm sure with the help of someone else who is fluent with English and Japanese on her staff, they could maintain the true meanings of the song.

R_Hikki 21st July 2011 03:16 AM

I think this a good topic/question. As weird as it is, it's a somewhat realistic situation because we see this happening all the time with other Asian artists trying to go international, especially the K-Pop acts.

So, for Ayu...

Ballads:
Days
Curtain Call
Pride

The arrangement of these ballads is pretty standard and resemble that of other international acts.

Other songs:
Rule
Connected
About you
until that Day...
glitter

The selected songs are just a few that contain elements of general pop music that could help Ayu crossover. "glitter" not as much but it would help to introduce people to that side of Ayu because it's not as overwhelming of an upbeat pop song that Ayu is also known for.

^ Agreed. And I think that's the reason she stuck with only Japanese for so long.

Eh, I pretty much agree with that statement there...

I mean her english is adorable but I don't really like the way her singing voice sounds in english to be perfectly honest...it's like it was only designed for Japanese if you know what I mean :laugh.

But I guess if I had to choose at least one song I wouldn't mind in English it would probably be Sparkle.

EDIT: Actually Connected wouldn't be bad either come to think of it :think.

zellyx 27th July 2011 06:00 AM

Cherry totally know what you mean about her voice being designed for Japanese. Haha

Sparkle
Pride
A song for xx!!
Mirrorcle world
Because of you
Rule
About you!!

Really... Her rock and electronic/pop songs would be great in English.

ownsarai 27th July 2011 08:26 AM

I would definitely love to hear Who... in English.

love your choice

yamashita.san 27th July 2011 10:36 AM

None! I love Japanese :)

Besides I don`t listen to any English songs. I am a true J-Pop fan :laugh

yoshino 27th July 2011 11:46 AM

I love her Japanese songs as it is.
Even if she were to sing in English, I hope it'll be a totally new different set of songs. I don't wish to see any of her Japanese songs in English version. That will be confusing!! and many singers are doing that these days which I don't really like it.

asmAyumi1992 27th July 2011 02:25 PM

I've been trying to sing singable Rainy Days English lyrics made by someone here in AHS (but I forgot the name). And the song and the lyrics really blended so well. My eyes get watery while singing the song. So, my thought is, Rainy Days would be a perfect English song for Ayu :yes

EDIT : Found it ! In this thread :D singable English lyric by Tomoyo

Now I want this like BURNING.

sesshy 27th July 2011 08:28 PM

None... I can't see any Ayumi songs being in English or Ayu singing in English. XD (I never heard her sing in English).

Actually... wondering. How's her speaking now? I never heard her speak English recently.

TeamAyu2004 27th July 2011 08:34 PM

I think a lot of people are missing the point of this thread... but anyways: :shrug

I like the idea and always wondered what she would do (I would rather see all new songs, but I would also love some old ones sung in English too)

I always thought the track list to A Best 2 White would of been a good mix... some of her best songs too from that era!
1. Evolution
2. Greatful Days
3. Independent
4. Humming 7/4
5. Unite!
6. Real Me
7. My Name's Woman
8. Ourselves
9. Inspire
10. Step You!
11. July First
12. Fairyland
13. Voyage
14. Moments

Although I would exchange Humming 7/4 for Heartplace
Inspire for Game
an some other song for Voyage... maybe connected or something else off of I am...

:)

ExodusUK 27th July 2011 08:38 PM

Ayu should totally do two English versions of a song for her 15th anniversary singles.
A Song For XX ~A World Is One 15th Anniversary version~

Maemi 27th July 2011 08:53 PM

No.

I think there was a clip of Ayu speaking English at that... Leslie-something-or-other photoshoot? - or some kind of presentation of it - and her English was very good.

Maybe not everybody wants a full album but just a couple of individual songs done in English. :)

noisy_harmony 27th July 2011 11:12 PM

Real me ofc. :innocent

I must've missed that! Just watched it and wow! Her English is pretty good!

j0tas 28th July 2011 12:12 AM

In the first tracklist I put 30 songs but I think those 14 are the most "comercial sounding" for non Japanesse people xD

6. Moments
7. Endless Sorrow
8. Because of you
9. GAME

Mimichild 28th July 2011 12:14 AM

PoetGirl 28th July 2011 03:04 AM

song for fans would be cute in english, like MY ALL, RED LINE, thank U, AUDIENCE etc

YUKARI 28th July 2011 06:18 AM

No old songs! If she wants to sing in English, let it be only new songs.

Chibi_Venus 29th July 2011 09:00 PM

I'm going to stop thinking realistically for a minute and imagine that Ayu did release an all English album. :P Hmm... What songs...?

Curtain call
The melody and lyrics are repetitive. And because it's such a simple arrangement (mostly piano), it wouldn't be an incredible nightmare to listen to with other instruments drowning out her voice. :P

STEP you
I'm sure the English would be crazy in here. xD But after thinking about it, it would be interesting to hear. Not my first choice, but I thought I'd add in some variety.

CAROLS
I think this could turn out to be a beautiful English version if the right person worked with her on good grammar.

Pride
I feel like this would be her best one. Again, if the right people worked with her on grammar and words (especially which words and their vowels would help it sound better on certain notes), then this could be perfect. "Pride" would be my number one. <3

(miss)understood
I think this one would be clear and easy to understand. And it'd be nice to hear a rock song in English.

Mostly I think any of her underrated-ish songs would be better in English, as well as songs with a "simpler" and maybe quieter arrangement. While it would be nice to hear some classics in English, I don't think they should be messed with too much. ;)

bondingo 2nd August 2011 05:17 AM

It wouldn't exist, because Ayu singing in English would just be laughable. She has a huge accent when she talks, so singing isn't going to be any better.

It's the chorus of Who..., in Chinese version. then during A Complete ~All Singles~, she made Who... in a complete Chinese song as well.

But i would say, her Mandarin is adorable too.

I remember i saw some youtubers covering ayu's songs in their own English lyrics.

*Petit* 2nd August 2011 07:52 PM

Japanese is a more beautiful language to listen to phonetically IMO. And I don't think the result would've been great, even english singers seem to have problems coming up with great lyrics in their native language. I know there are good lyricist writing in english too, but they don't seem to contribute as much to the chart toppers as at least decent lyricists do in other languages...

Given the outcome would've been decent, I'd prefer my favourite tracks I suppose. =)

HTMSD 6th August 2011 05:12 PM

1. Last angel
2. connected
3. Sparkle
4. A Song for XX
5. M
6. Pride
7. until That Day...
8. Rule
9. Real me
10. Ladies Night
11. SEASONS
12. Mirrorcle World
13. Love song
14. Who...

kendelle 7th August 2011 06:13 PM

01. RAINBOW
One of the songs that epitomises Ayu's career. It's so unique and powerful. The film clip is a freaking masterpiece and would make an excellent translation to English.

02. SEASONS
Tata Vega did a (somewhat nice) cover in English, proving the song can translate to English. A closer version would be amazing, though.

03. Sweet Season
This would have to be solely from my bias for the song but I can hear Ayu closing the song in English...
"I see the future you look down on me
it shines, it shines, it shines"
...and bloody hell it gives me goosebumps like nothing else :luv2

04. M
I'm not 100% sure on M, but I think it's a song that's so beautiful it should be accessible in more languages. Unfortunately I don't think it would be as good as the original but I'd be delighted to hear an alternative version :eviltongu

05. GAME
An awesome song in itself, it's got the change from slower song to faster that would lead into much faster-paced songs.

06. Rule
I think it would fit in well with Western tastes, though I was tossing up with this and Sparkle :tired

07. 1LOVE
I love Ayu's voice in this song, though it would probably sound weird in English looking over the lyrics again xD They'd probably need to be "kickassed" up a bit!

08. appears
I really like the story in appears. (yes, that's my entire reasoning)

09. Real Me
A very catchy song with amazing lyrics, even if the English pronunciation and grammar is off a bit a re-recording could fix all of that.

10. Pride
This song's also been covered in English by Sweetbox but I love Ayu's lyrics more. Its simple melody makes it a perfect breakthrough track for Ayu.

11. Ladies Night
One of Ayu's catchiest songs, this could sound amazing in English, too.

12. GREEN
The "Asian" feel of GREEN would make it a great bridge between English and Japanese songs for new listeners.

BONUS TRACK. Who...
It has a Chinese version, why not add an English one?

Man.........I've wanted to write my own SELs for Ayu's songs for years. I should really do that sometime!!! :yes

mi|kshake 8th August 2011 11:58 PM

Here's my list (which I have just quickly thought of!):

A Song For xx
Surreal
Evolution
Rainbow
M
Guilty
Seasons
Don't Look Back
Fairyland
Dolls
Alterna
Hanabi
To Be
Step You

mi|kshake~

lightningrod 10th August 2011 03:17 PM

Yay for we Chinese fans who have a Chinese version of "Who..."! We all LOVE it though her pronunciation is not so good that none of us could make out anything besides a few words without reading the lyrics. And she has spoken English for years so I'm sure her English songs will be better.
My choices are:
Love song
Microphone
progress
No way to say
CAROLS
Together When...
RAINBOW
fairyland
momentum
JEWEL
Virgin Road
Who...

kotora 11th August 2011 01:33 AM

Nobody mentioned "Rock'n'Roll Circus", "kiss o' kill" ? I think they are quite non-japanese title.

ハート〜ブレーカ♥ 11th August 2011 05:25 AM

I gotta say, if this ever did happen, it would probably sound really forced; as she is not very good with the pronouncing, but I would give it a try. :laugh

Kazeyomi 11th August 2011 05:48 AM

Dunno why but I cannot imagine most of her songs sung in english. Maybe because are more japanese, I guess. There are few of them that will works on english (imo of course):

Life
Sweet Season
Sparkle
Who...
Daybreak

emi♡ 11th August 2011 07:51 AM

I think she could release MY STORY as an English album, cause, I think the music from that album is most friendly lol

MeltingCORE 17th August 2011 09:26 PM

(am i the only one who finds her Engrish kind of cute?) Even if you can't understand anything she's saying. XD

Anyways, my English dream list would be...

1. Endless sorrow
2. Rule
3. Sparkle
4. Greatful days
5. Mirrorcle World
6. INSPIRE
7. RED LINE ~for TA~
8. rollin'
9. Born to be...
10. Love song
11. STEP you
12. Pride
13. And then
14. talkin' 2 myself

This is just based on the lyrics I like best from her. Not trying to make it flow or anything.
