Lol all I see is hate for those covers (and probbaly for songs). And I keep questioning what is SOOO bad that i don't see. The covers for sure aren't the greatest, but from my point of view I think the composition is nice, the colors are very sumerish, I also totally like the font,probably the only time I think it fits perfectly, it's kinda elegantic but with the little fun in it, I think Ayu is looking quite ok, I mean i've seen worse of her, and her face even if looking a little weird, is better looking than with the huge fish lips. And sure they got a bit off with her style (lol) overall, but it's not THAT bad for me really.I mean (miss)understood covers for me was a dissaster, when I saw them, i wasn't sure what am I looking at xD
I also totally enjoy both of the songs, tho Sunrise more. And I thought the videos were kinda nice.

Is my taste weird? Or maybe I'm blind? :D

EDIT: ok I wanted to keep this thread on a possitive side, for those who like it, cuz there's just TOO much hate for the release, but oh well lol

songs are flawless, please dont even go there lol, and I love the videos, I was so happy with this release, even cover is shakira much I could live with it.

The thing is they could be so much better and beautiful since her styling was beautiful and place she went was extraordinary beautiful...

same like you , I'm 1 of the few that actually enjoys Sunrise/Sunset a great deal , inclusive of the PVs that have 2 awesome/great looks ayumi portrayed .

It's only the covers that are really awful but I suppose nothing beats the CD only cover of (miss)understood haha

But as long as the music's still good , it's good enough for me . No point to have the best covers in the world but if the music's lousy/terrible , then that defeats the whole purpose of everything

^^the look Ayu has reminds me of the calendar of last year, they probably shot the covers at the same time, and from what I saw lots of the pics could have made into beautiful CD covers, perfectly fitting. So yeah they could have definitelly made it much better, but it's nowhere near a dissaster either.:yes

KarenPang. true about the music, but I always thought that the amount of quality you put into music should be kept till the very end of the finished product reaches the shelves. If you have a good single you gotta make the details (covers, promotion, videos) meet the music too. At least that's what I usually expect from artists (maybe because i'm myself like that lol) plus sometimes just seeing the cover in the shop might want you to buy the CD and listen to it.

the CD+DVD Cover seems OK, but not the CD Only cover, it looks like she was forced to make a photoshoot and she wasn't even prepared, like she was in a middle of talking to someone and the photographer snapped a pic of it.

the only problem i found that, BALI is extremely beautiful place with great scenery, i mean why didn't they explore more to find a perfect background rather than chose the view from hotel? did they scare fans will come to find her? i doubt so.
i'd rather them to take a beach scenery, even though it's very common concept for a summer single, but still, it should look much better than this. or the calender pic is better than this.

her outfit is extremely OK. i love it. just the scenery and the photoshop look so OFF.
as for the songs, I LOVE THEM ALL.
and yes i have to agree that (miss)understood covers are LOL haha..

but in the end, i won't really mind bout covers being ugly or what.. the songs are the most important thing haha~

The song sounds nice but seems Ayu didn't sing it cheerfully.. Her vocal is quite different from previous summer songs (July 1st, Greatful days...)
But I enjoy the songs..

the cover is not bad...it's ok...
but people has a really high hope on her...they demand perfectness from her...
and she shoot it in Bali but it's end up just ok cover...so a lot of people really don't understand for what she fly far away to Indonesia, just to shot that kind of pics

I love the song "Sunrise ~LOVE is ALL~" ("Sunset" was just sort of "meh" but I'm difficult to please when it comes to ballads). The arrangement was really sweet and summery--it's one of the few songs where I listen to the instrumental almost as much as the actual song. It also has one of the best shout-along choruses for concerts; I don't know why she doesn't perform it more.

...but I just can't with the covers. Although I hate her fish-lips, I think I'd take them over the kind of dopey look she has here. It's just creepy seeing someone who is usually so powerful and confident look that dead in the eyes. Aside from that, I think my main problem with the covers is that, while it was supposedly shot ~on location, everything looks like it was cobbled together in Photoshop--all of the elements look like they're from separate photographs; there's no interaction between her, the flowers, or the water; the flowers are blurred in such an unnatural way that it almost looks like the artist was making up for it being a different resolution than anything else on the cover. It makes me think of a PS draft made to sell the client on the composition, not the final product of a AAA pop star.

...but, yeah, "Sunrise" is a great summer song.

And about the songs, Sunrise gave me that ayufan feeling the first time I listened to it! Sunset made me cry, because when it came out I was going through a very tough time, and that song made me feel much better :)

The one thing I don't like about covers is her stupid face expression. You know, it's like you're looking not at alive person, but at a doll. This gets me everytime! And her outfit makes me think about silly light-minded woman.. perhaps because ayu doesn't bare her skin frequently ~.~ and this look just kills me every time I see it.

I actually like these songs, especially Sunset, it sounds so Japanese :D

I love the songs and the covers never bothered me till people started pointing out all the "badness" in them...

Lol, I quickly got over that, but now in the back of my mind I keep telling myself that they just look cheap. It almost looks like someone to a picture of a background (not even a real place) and then superimposed Ayumi on top (did I use the terminology right?? no photoshop experience!)

So I love the songs, the covers look okay for something a 12 year might of done... Its one of those where you'll say: That's good... practice makes perfect!

I thought the covers were perfectly ok and the same goes for the songs.

The covers are just a graphic mess. The bad photoshop, the fragments and cloning mistakes everywhere... it's just a mess.

Anyone knows that cursive font looks terrible in caps, yet it's done here. :/ The photo of Ayu itself isn't bad, it's just the entire presentation and post processing that's ruined perfectly good photos. :/

I never hated those covers. It looks simply and summerish. I really love the font and Ayu`s face :)

Imo they aren't that bad, people are just always exaggerating. And no, nothing's wrong with your eyes. If something's pretty to at least one person in the world, then it's pretty.

The covers 're bad but the song itself 's flawless!

I can understand why people don't like them, I guess she looks way too tan for one thing. But there's worse covers out there, personally I think the UNITE!, Free & Easy and HEAVEN covers aren't that great. :D

The song itself is one of my personal favourites, it never gets old.

On a professional level, it's bad. It's so photoshopped it looks cheap. I don't know why they couldn't have just photographed her over real, untouched scenery.

The font is a bad choice for overlaying. The text is hard to read, especially ~LOVE is ALL~, given the busy nature of the greenery.

I don't hate the songs though.

I'm one of the few that doesn't have any problems with the covers/songs/PVs. I like them all. I especially LOVE Sunset as a song and the PV was very sweet.
People really need to stop expecting perfection from Ayu at every release because people do nothing but complain when its not up to their standards. Ayu can't please everyone all the time, although a lot of fans expect her to, it seems.

I ♥ the songs, they are epic, and I'm glad she did videos like them. The cover's are nowhere near as good as You were.../BALLAD, but I love them still.

While there's nothing appealing about the covers I still don't have such a deep hatred towards them and don't think of them as her worst covers :shrug I wasn't shocked by them one bit like everyone else was. I still think the A BEST 2, appears & (miss)understood covers are much worse and had also seen much more unappealing pictures from her in various photo books & magazine shoots released before these covers. As for the single I still think it's an exaggeration to call it her "worst single ever" which is what many fans think of it as. I love Sunrise, and if Sunset is deemed her "worst ballad" by many fans I think she's done pretty well for herself. It's quite pretty and relaxing, though obviously nothing epic. Not a fan of the PV's at all really. The way they were shot (camera positions) bothered me and not enough different scenes.

the words should have been in the water, to be clearer. they did a horrible job using the blur tool around the plants and ayu. it looks like a blind person did it tbh. that being said, the covers could have been perfect. it was just doing the wrong thing with the right tools.

I don't think it's all the terrible, but it the fact that it -could- have been better. Like others have said, they went to Bali and they chose the view from the pool...

It's more, for me, the disappointment in the effort that went into the shoot. The songs are fine, the videos are average, but the covers look so lackluster. There's no energy in them at all...

I'm happy to see that at least a few didn't have a problem with the covers. I know tatses are tastes, but lots of people would be just going with the flow unconciously, and other oppinions affect them too. So at some point i'm happy I'm not alone finding the Sunrise/Sunset release as a quite good one :)

Taste is entirely subjective, so you simply have different tastes than others.

You said you question why it's SOOO bad, so I merely gave insight on the alternate side of the debate.

I think the songs are fine. The melody was great~ And once again, further proof that Ayu songs benefit from diversity in the writers.


But I can't agree about the covers, I'm sorry. I don't understand how they could take such a beautiful shot, and turn it into this photoshopped mess. And I've seen the off shots for Bali...so...I mean...that just makes it worse, because she looks so incredibly beautiful everywhere else.

I also, disagree about the font. I like the cursive font, but I don't like the outline in that green, which makes it look cheap/cheesy, and I don't like the Invitation font for the "LOVE is ALL".

So, personally, I don't hold this one against Ayu at all, this is out of her control...

and didnt the people responsible get fired or something? But I don't think we ever got proof of the reason.


off-topic: I personally don't understand all the hate for (m)u covers. I can understand the CD-only, cause the smile is awful. But I love the CD-DVD. Lots of covers are plain and simple like that, and I thought it was sweet, with the heart and everything.

I liked the covers actually, I was one of the few ahahahha.

Only dislike I have in them is her hair. She looks so much older >.<

The background looks totally fake, like a cut-and-paste job, and the colors are obnoxiously bright. That's why I don't like them. But no, I don't think it makes you weird for liking them; to each their own.

I don't like the songs either though. Meh.

I even like (m)u covers better.

But I love the single itself, Sunrise is my favorite summer song from Ayu
