i was wondering if there's any chance to FIVE go back to #1 in the next three days on daily charts, #AAABEST sales are dropping too much, today it sold 5k, maybe it will drop to 2k till monday and ayu will get #1 position again if FIVE rise a little... it's not impossible

I don't think so... I think they sold something like 34K in the first two days... (around 25K i think... on the first day)
There is no way Ayumi could get a number one, unless... something like 30K was sold on sunday... lol

im not saying that she'll get a number one on weekly charts.... im saying that she could get it on daily positions... of course she wont get number one this week.

Day/GREEN's 40,003 is a combination of 2 weeks (2nd+3rd) it seems that FIVE's 2nd+3rd combinations will be higher, tomorrow it will pass that number.

200ks is affordable & it is a success considering that is a mini album

^I don't get the "lack of promotion" thing (then again, I never do). There might not have been a lot of TV performances, but she's been performing the new songs at a-nation. She's also been on the cover of a lot of magazines recently, and "progress" has been omnipresent in gaming circles. In additions to TV CMs, the song was playing constantly in stores leading up to the game's release (not sure about now...?), and the game itself sold more than five times its closest competitor on the software charts in its first week. That's a lot of people who--at the very least--were exposed to "progress" and could potentially want exclusive DLC and artwork.

I'd be really interested to learn the final breakdown in FIVE's sales between the three versions.

most of the people who attend a-nation are Ayu fans, so promoting the song to the fan base which already knows about your album is more or less pointless. It's nothing compared to what AKB, arashi, EXILE or kpop acts get these days. Ayu never does variety shows now days and she barely performs on TV or does radio interviews...

I guess I just see what she's doing now as a different kind of promotion instead of a ~lack. The way some people here go on about the ~lack of promotion (which was not your nor brener's comment), it sounds like she and Avex do absolutely nothing and the album appears at #1 by the hand of the J-pop gods.

^ it's not nothing, but it seems to me that they aren't doing much to get her songs out there. Still progress has deffo benefited from Tales of Xillia.

I'd say the album will definitely sell 200k at this point and I would love to see it outsell Dejavu (but that's just me) xD

In the fifth day of the third week she sold more than any other day in the second week xp that's crazy! Btw any competition for future releases this month that could take the number 1 monthly spot from her?

About "lack of promotion", as thatstacey said, it's not a lack indeed, it's a different way to promote her releases. You can't compare to AKB-family, K-Pop acts, etc, they're fresh, new and reaching the top of their carreers.

Ayu's top was kind of... 10 years ago. Have steady sales and a strong fanbase 7 years after her "it-girl phase" is really great. Overplay your songs putting it everywhere when you're not fresh sometimes could be negative.

Soundscan doesn't have all the sales that Oricon counts but it's roughly pretty telling that Tales of Xillia did help quite a bit.

Very much so! Though when Tokyohive released the monthly oricon charts of August FIVE wasnt on it... Maybe its not on the August chart, cuz it only got number 1 on the first week of September... so im confused >.<

Hmm Tohoshinki are releasing a new album on 28th September, but they could go both ways really. None of their studio albums managed to outsell older Ayu albums so we'll see about them.

I don't think the Tales version will help anymore...
I've been told that it's sold out... I guess there was only 50K made??

Hopefully they'll make a second print of something... ?

OMG I was so shocked when I looked at the first page and saw the sales doubling from one day to the next haha Her sales have always had steady declines the last years(with the exception of MW-magic) and now it's suddenly jumpy xD It would be amazing if she managed to secure a daily #1 sometime next week as well...but highly unlikely.

I just realized that in week 3 she sold better than Love Songs the last days! Weekly sales will probably be around the same, FIVE has a good chance of selling more than Love Songs week 3 and possibly the weeks after as the gaps have been getting smaller and smaller, it will probably have more longevity than Love Songs

Considering all that, FIVE should sell another 40k with no problems.

I agree. We don't see the adverts everywhere on buildings, CMs, in-store displays, or anything like what we used to see even for a single.

There's significantly less promotion by Avex as the years pass by though. I know she's not in her "it-girl phase" anymore, but considering she still has clout in the business, it's a little disappointing that Avex isn't giving her their best, even at this point in her career.

A fraction of the immense promotion Avex used to do for her would have a noticeable impact on sales, it always does. I don't think she has to play her songs everywhere, but a 30-story poster on the side of a skyscraper in downtown Tokyo will definitely draw some attention.

I just think Avex is letting her taper off by not giving her their best on new releases. Then again, I also think Ayu is tapering it off too by not finding ways to stay relevant in this industry. I don't necessarily want to see her become a one-woman KARA, but a change of pace like Suzuki Ami did may help freshen up her career for her and the fans. (I've always wondered how awesome an j-trance album from Ayumi would be... :D)

The AKB act would be nothing if those girls weren't hanging their breasts out in adverts on every sidewalk, building, car, boat, and plane. But it's what makes the money right now... Which just gave me an idea... Maybe Ayu should...? ...Oh, nevermind. :innocent

the sales are good and stable without TV-performances... I hope it doesn't mean that next time ayu won't do much TV-promotion too :dead2

i really wonder what made many ppl love this album..where in AHS, we all know that this is not the fave album haha :P

I gotta say... sure the sales are stable, but they are stably low. I'll be surprised when FIVE starts to equal Love songs. 174k is not that much at all...

coz FIVE is just mini album so i guess that's quite stable?

most of the mini albums sold worse than full length album but in Ayu's case is different. her Memorial Address also quite stable stayed in chart for 53 weeks, 3rd longest after ASFXX and LOVEppears

It might have charted really well but there's still a big difference from RAINBOW to Memorial address. xD

I don't remember whether I have been asked this question or not. But are all the sales are a total for only Japan version or for all versions including TW ver, HK ver and OS ver?

yep, that was because its first week sales 50% of RAINBOW's first week. huge drop
luckily FIVE's first week sold about 70% of LS's 1st week

You do realize that EPs sell much less than albums usually? And FIVE is even shorter than most EPs are, it's almost single lenght. Her last EP sold around 50% of the album before and FIVE sold more than 50% of Love Songs now already and almost twice as much as her latest singles(and it is pretty much a long single, but one that is marketed towards casual fans and people new to Ayumi, not longtime fans)
And the overall sales won't reach those of Love Songs but the weekly sales of week #3 will probably equal the weekly sales Love Songs had that week(might even be higher) and the weeks after may be able to achieve the same thing.
Most people expected this to sell around 100k copies, it sold those in 4 days and will probably reach 200k in the end.

Her album after her last EP sold 10% more than the EP.

Will be interesting to see if her next album (assuming it will be full length) will outsell FIVE.

But I would like to now how many legal downloads FIVE has... apparently Japan is the country with the most legal downloads in the world...

So I can see Oricon incorporating that into there charts soon... or they might become irrelevant?

Looking at the ringtone charts FIVE seems to be doing really good digitally. 2 of the songs went to #1, one went to #2 and the others were top10 and top20. Remember she only performed on TV once!
That is very understandable, too, as FIVE seems to target casual fans and new fans and those are more likely to download the tracks they like than to buy the whole EP. Let's see how many songs go gold...progress probably will, with LOTS of luck and maybe another tv performance beloved or ANother song could go gold, too.

Who said that? I think that's only your opinion : P And I think FIVE isn't that kind of album which would particularly attract new fans. Ayu tries once again something new with this album [- progress and beloved]
And also, I love FIVE. I can see why it sells well. I don't think it's odd.
