Diamonds in Radioactive MV

SHORT BIO

Spoiler:

Her stage name, "Marina and the Diamonds", consists of Diamandis's first name and the translation of her surname which means "Diamonds" in Greek. Although "The Diamonds" is often mistakenly believed to refer to her backing band, it in fact refers to Diamandis's fans: she explains this on her Myspace page by saying "I'm Marina. You are the diamonds.

Marina & The Diamonds is Indie pop or New Wave singer, had her start was on myspace with her own-self release , Mermaid vs Sailor EP, songs were self composed and produced on the Apple software application Garageband.
Diamandis created on hand-made CD-Rs of the EP and sold through her MySpace page. An estimated seventy copies were sold overall. Package her self she wrote a hand message thanking whom ever bought it.

In January 2008, Diamandis was first discovered by music scouter Derek Davies of Neon Gold Records. Davies booked Diamandis to open for Australian singer Gotye later that year where Warner Music Group first saw her and ended up signing her in October 2008 to 679 Recordings.

I love her music! I have "The Family Jewels" album and each track is amazing. Thanks for this post

CHE.R.RY 30th October 2011 06:10 AM

Yeah I really like the album myself! I think my favorite song is Shampain followed by I Am Not A Robot.

Chu-Lip506 31st October 2011 06:39 AM

I Really like "Are You Satisfied?", "Shampain" and "The Outsider"

But but all her songs amazing, i really like Seventeen at the moment

MeltingCORE 5th November 2011 09:13 PM

"Radioactive" is the shizzle. Been listening to it everyday since Northerner recommended it to me. Anyone got any recommendations for her other music? (plz & thnx.)

Tony G 6th November 2011 10:59 AM

Been a fan since I heard her Obsessions/I Am Not A Robot single in 2009.

Radioactive took a while to grow on me but I love it now. Its just such a huge departure from her previous sound.. guess it was expected since she's obsessed with America. She's worked with a lot of huge American pop producers for the new album and its going to reflect in her sound.

If Radioactive is the first song you've heard from her - the rest of her disco is very different, more of a indie/piano-pop vibe. But try out "I Am Not A Robot" and "Are You Satisfied?".

CHE.R.RY 8th November 2011 09:26 PM

I kind of hope she doesn't take on a dance sound for the new album though...electronica would maybe be cool, but I've gotten to the point where I feel like there's barely any creativity in dance music nowadays :shakehead. Radioactive is an okay song, but I prefer The Family Jewels style more.

Chu-Lip506 9th November 2011 04:56 AM

For InvaderSTELLAR

most of her works i recommend

but my favorites are

Spoiler:

Oh No!
The Outsider
Are You Satisfied?

what do you mean, pushed back? a date was never announced. right from the get-go, she always said "early 2012", and it was recently announced for February...

my favorite marina song right now is jealousy

Lady~Deviance 13th December 2011 02:53 AM

I've heard of Marina and the Diamonds before but never took the liberty to check her out. Her music style on "The Family Jewels" is right up my alley. Her foray into American pop however, does not tickle my fancy. Not liking the compositions of "Radioactive" and "Starring Role".

Thanks for sharing!

Paparazzi 24th February 2012 07:24 PM

new song "Homewrecker" from Electra Heart is out. very goooood!

CHE.R.RY 1st March 2012 10:11 PM

^ Damn you weren't kidding this song is badass. I love it when she says 'boys and their 6 inch rockets' xD!

This song sounds Lady Gaga-esque imo.

Probably. I've already heard 3 finished tracks, 4 demos, and 1 live version. So i've heard, to an extent, half the album. But it's going to be amazing. I'm sure a lot of the demos will be quite different, however.

Beffi 12th March 2012 03:30 PM

I'm so glad this topic has been revived. Primadonna had its first radio play today, and the video should be out later. I love it!
I also managed to get a ticket for her Lonely Hearts Club Tour for May 12th, yaaaay~

CHE.R.RY 12th March 2012 05:22 PM

After listening to Homewrecker I am stoked for this album! :luv2

kimono_jet_girl 12th March 2012 07:43 PM

I can't wait for the album, I love Primadonna's video.

Northerner 16th March 2012 04:21 AM

Is the deluxe version with the extra songs going to get a worldwide release, or is it a UK-only thing? I can't believe they demoted "Radioactive" to a bonus track! :(

The cover is brilliant, though --- I love the '80s-inspired look she has going on there.

RikkuK 16th March 2012 05:35 AM

Scab and Plaster gets me so excited for the album every time!

I think I remember her management (679) tweeting someone saying that it'll be available to order in the US soon, so probably not UK only. Whether it'll be the version in stores or online, I'm not sure though.

I bought the limited edition version! Exciting.

milky_way 17th March 2012 10:01 PM

I'm in love with Starring Role. Had it on repeat all day :heart

CHE.R.RY 26th March 2012 07:42 PM

I'm trying so hard to not totally ruin the album before it comes out...I can't believe she's done all this promo for it & it's not due for release until late April :o...

KuroixShiroi_Namida 28th March 2012 12:13 PM

UGH. How the hell is Scab and Plaster not on the album? FAIL Marina. Like her hair.

CHE.R.RY 20th April 2012 09:21 PM

^ I haven't even listened to those songs. Were they demos or something?

milky_way 21st April 2012 02:03 AM

^ Yeah, it's a demo.

I'm loving Lies and The State of Dreaming right now. All I need is for Bubblegum ***** to leak and I'm set.

Welurru 26th April 2012 01:24 AM

Standard editions leaked.

Great album.

First few listens it does get a bit samey but once I know the songs I'm sure this will change.
Surprised how much I love Teen Idle and Valley of the Dolls. Bubblegum B is so instant and after one listen had it in my head.

PetiteMonstre 26th April 2012 06:34 AM

The album is absolute perfection, i love it SO much :love

Paparazzi 26th April 2012 02:47 PM

this album is literally perfect.

zellyx 26th April 2012 04:02 PM

how does it compare to Family Jewels??? I LOVE that album to bits.

So psyched to listen!!

Mirrorcle Monster 26th April 2012 04:25 PM

Disappointed tbh. It is overproduced and many song sound too similar

zellyx 26th April 2012 11:40 PM

EDIT: nvm

Love the tracks, but so far I like Family Jewels more... intially.
I am so obsessed with Lies, Primadonna, Homewrecker, but nothing more than Living Dead. :heart

milky_way 27th April 2012 02:26 AM

My faves: Primadonna, Starring Role, Valley of the Dolls, Bubblegum *****, Power & Control, and Lies

Can't wait to get this in the mail :heart

George 27th April 2012 07:43 AM

I love the album. I can't get into Teen Idle and Hypocrates though.

PetiteMonstre 27th April 2012 08:57 AM

It is very different from the Family Jewels, but that's why i like it. I wouldn't want her to produce the same album.

At first the songs do sound the same, but when you listen to them more often, they're def. different.

i love the lyrics a lot too, they are different then her previous work, but in my opinion they leave a lot more room for interpretaion. All in all it's one of the best, if not the best album released this year (imo) :)

wildconnetta 28th April 2012 09:37 AM

♡ E L E C T R A H E A R T I S A M A S T E R P I E C E ♡

Fav songs: Bubblegum ♡B♡i♡t♡c♡h♡, Primadonna, Lies, Homewrecker, Starring Role, The State of Dreaming, Power & Control, Living Dead, Teen Idle, Valley of the Dolls, Hypocrates, Fear and Loathing, Radioactive, ♡S♡e♡x♡ Yeah, Lonely Hearts Club, Buy the Stars
(if you notice that is all of them)

Favourite lyric: You don't love me, big ♡f♡u♡c♡k♡i♡n♡ deal

relmy 28th April 2012 04:50 PM

It's a good album, nothing amazing, just... good I guess. I like it, but it's overproduced, and I don't think she's making a statement at all. I love Primadonna though, the lyrics are really good. I think it's the best track. Bubblebum ***** is fun too. Radioactive is amazing too, and I quite like Fear and Loathing.

...everything in the middle just blurs into one big 14-year-old diary mess.

ren'ai 30th April 2012 02:54 AM

I really loved the album! Valley of the Dolls, Starring Role, Primadonna, Teen Idle, Bubblegum biaatch and Homewrecker are frikkin amazing

CHE.R.RY 2nd May 2012 08:59 PM

Omg I forgot the album was released yesterday!!! :thud

I must buy now!!! & OMFG!!! She's gonna be opening for Coldplay (my favorite band) when they go to Portugal, Spain, & France!!! WTF!!! I just saw them last Friday, but it was two other bands that opened for them (which were good but still!)! I would've been soooo thrilled if she'd come to San Jose with Coldplay :/

CHE.R.RY 8th May 2012 12:39 AM

Sorry for the double post but omg...I totally didn't realize it was only gonna be released in the UK in April ugh! It's still not due for release until July in the states :thud

Either way, I've managed to get my hands on it (which I will buy when it comes out here ofc), and this album is spectacular! I remember when I first listened to the Family Jewels, I was pretty impressed with it, but for some reason the more I listened to it the more I realized that I only really liked a few songs. I've always respected Marina, but this album has sealed the deal for me. I honestly don't think it sounds overproduced, I think it sounds like a work of art. I think Family Jewels is light-years away from even touching Electra Heart.

My favorite songs are Lies, Starring Role, Power & Control, Living Dead, Homewrecker, Primadonna, Teen Idle, Fear and Loathing, Lonely Hearts Club (this song is ****in' amazing :luv2), & Buy the Stars.

All I can really say is WOW...this album is so cohesive in my opinion. I love the lyrics, music, and compositions. It's a job well done. :yes

RikkuK 9th May 2012 06:38 AM

My life is a play...

Entitled "Hummus"

George 31st May 2012 10:11 PM

I love the visuals but it's quite boring.

CHE.R.RY 8th June 2012 06:21 PM

^ God she is soo gorgeous :heart. I thought it was an interesting little interview, actually. I love how honest & raw the lyrics are to this album...I mean, the music is awesome already but to have an album coupled with amazing lyrics is just rare nowadays, at least for me anyway.

& Omg!!! Where are those alternate versions of the songs?! Were they only made for the interview?! They sounded so good! I want them :(!

George 9th June 2012 08:05 PM

... I was meant to post the music video of Power and Control but I somehow got the wrong url. I actually love her interviews.

CHE.R.RY 13th June 2012 06:09 PM

^ Not the most interesting PV, but I still adore Power & Control.

relmy 19th June 2012 07:09 PM

...All Electra Heart has done is made me realise that, oh my gosh, The Family Jewels is one of my favourite albums ever. Numb is just... ugh, beautiful and amazing. ;__; I'll sing the praises of every song except Girls, that song and I don't really click.

Don't get me wrong, I love Electra Heart (it's a case of a great album and an amazing, faultless album that speaks to you on so many levels), but I wanted more weird songs like Mowgli's Road and Guilty. Or the the oddballness of songs like Hermit the Frog. I guess that's why I love the end to Fear and Loathing, or the bit about kissing the mirror in Teen Idle.

I've always liked TFJ, but I never realised how AMAZING it is. Oh No! is like.... my anthem in life. It's so badass ...I just love this woman so much.

George 28th June 2012 12:24 PM

I prefer Electra Heart a tad more. Although, her voice in The Family Jewels was sassier. I love it. But I guess she didn't need that much sass on Electra Heart.

relmy 9th July 2012 05:59 PM

No Buy the Stars on the US Electra Heart? That's a crime, as is leaving off Lonely Hearts Club. Two of the best songs right there. Not hugely fond of How to be a Heartbreaker, I like it's simplicity, but it's a bit boring. Getting that instead of Buy the Stars is a big no.

I generally like her lyrics and style more on TFJ. Songs like Numb, Are you Satisfied?, Guilty, Mowgli's Road and I am not a Robot are really quirky, clever, sometimes funny, but so easy to relate to. The album is quirky pop music gold. It's also pretty much the only album both my boyfriend and I love, so it's got that too haha. Our music tastes are so far apart.

And, I finally cracked, I'm seeing her live in London in October, I cannot wait! I'm tempted to go wearing a cheerleader uniform, it would be waaay to hot though. :(

George 10th July 2012 02:48 AM

I was planning on seeing her this August but I'm not even sure now because of my schedule. I would love to see her though!

CHE.R.RY 14th July 2012 12:21 AM

I was so excited to see her album on iTunes this morning! I bought it right away! I really like How to be a Heartbreaker :heart.

EDIT: Primadonna (Burns Remix) = :no

It barely even has Marina in it :thud...It sounds almost COMPLETELY unaffiliated with the original song.

RikkuK 27th July 2012 07:05 AM

I'm loving how to be a heartbreaker too. She needs to avoid this theme crap and just have fun recording herself like with the family jewels, scab and plaster and htahb. IMO

relmy 29th September 2012 12:54 PM

Asked if this is the minger verion on twitter. Awaiting response.

relmy 12th October 2012 01:59 AM

Double post, but I went to see her tonight in London, and it was amazing. She's really great live, and her vocals are super in a live setting. It was at the HMV Forum in Kentish Town, so a smallish two tier typical old theatre venue you get in London. It was the perfect size. I danced SO MUCH, the upbeat songs like Primadonna and Bubblegum ***** were pretty much huge karaoke sessions, she loved it and wanted us to sing louder, AMAZING atmosphere. She has great stage presence.

Really good setlist too, a good mix of the two albums. I think my favourites were Radioactive (the audience went crazy!), Teen Idle (just Marina with a keyboard, beautiful performance) and pretty much all the TFJ songs. I love Oh No! a lot too, it was my first Marina song, so I went crazy. I think I danced enough for everyone in that hall.

I was gutted she didn't do Numb, but I didn't expect a lot of TFJ songs so it was ok. I was hoping for Buy the Stars in the encore, but we didn't get that either. Only complaints though.

The set was really cute, dated wallpaper with neon signs and a little living room set up. Oh, and both her parents attended! We all sang happy birthday to her dad, and Marina bought her mum on stage at the end. :)

The setlist was something like this
Spoiler:

1. Homewrecker
2. Oh No!
3. Mowgli's Road
4. Lies
5. I Am Not A Robot
6. State of Dreaming (this had a really nice and simple arrangement!)
7. Power & Control
8. Bubblegum ***** (and we met Marilyn ♥)
9. Starring Role (so much better live!!)
10. Obsessions (she got pretty emotional playing this, she spoke about it was the song that got her signed in London)
11. Valley of the Dolls
12. Primadonna
13. Hollywood
14. Shampain (I thought this would have had a better reaction, a lot of the people who there for EH (e.g. had the hearts on their cheeks etc...) didn't seem to know it, CRIMINAL!!)
15. Radioactive (everybody went crazy, she said she loved our 'dancing' haha)
16. Fear and Loathing

17. Teen Idle
18. Hypocrates
19. How to be a Heartbreaker

It was generally an amazing evening, she's AMAZING live. GO SEE HER. I don't like most of Electra Heart but they're a million times better with the live arrangements and how the live venue works with her vocals.

She said it was the best live show she's ever performed (the atmosphere was really great!), she looked really moved when we sung the "I lalalalala love you!" part of HTBH back and forth at the end. :')

As I side note, totally wanted to kick the people who sung when she did the 'piano' versions of Obsessions and Teen Idle. They are not the karaoke songs.

ok I'm gonna stop stanning and go sleep

Miku 4th November 2012 12:00 AM

I do really love the song Valley of the Dolls

George 19th December 2012 01:00 AM

Gorgeous.

Maemi 27th December 2012 01:28 PM

Where's my post from here? o_O wtf?
Anyway, I love Primadona and How to be a heartbreaker :D

relmy 14th February 2013 09:08 PM

New song, E.v.o.L, free download until midnight (not sure what time zone? GMT?), for Valentine's Day.

smarturl.it/e.v.o.l

It's also partly on Youtube and she posted a streaming link on Twitter.

I've not had a proper listen yet but it sounds so much closer to the TFJ but with Electra-esque lyrics. I like.

R_Hikki 15th February 2013 12:14 AM

I'm loving "E.V.O.L"

I was expecting something mediocre since it's a free download but it's just as good as the rest of Electra Heart.

GREENsora 23rd February 2013 08:46 PM

A Marina and the Diamonds thread! :heart
I should visit this section of the forum more often

relmy 5th March 2013 10:43 PM

State of Dreaming video. Pretty simple, but I think it works for the song/winding down Electra Heart.

cool_kickin_dude 6th March 2013 01:22 AM

didn't know there was a thread for her...

I got to see her in Houston last October! Wish I knew the playlist for her, since she did a half hour show.

harufi 7th March 2013 10:53 PM

the gig sounded awesome Relmy :D

HTBAH is okay, its catchy but not one of my faves. I absolutely LOVE E.V.O.L though (ba dum tsch). To me it sounds like a halfway point between TFJ and EH.

I wonder what she'll do after she wraps up Electra Heart and touring?

CHE.R.RY 19th March 2013 08:51 PM

I'm loving EVOL and so glad I got to download it :D! I can't believe I didn't know about it sooner :thud...it came out a month ago!!!

It waaas, because I went alone I could ugly embarrassing dance as much as I wanted to Radioactive!

She said in an interview that everything done under Electra Heart will get released somehow as she can't use it afterwards. I think her music will go in the direction of E.V.O.L, quirky with the refinement of Electra Heart. I hope her lyrics keep the irony of Electra Heart, but eh, EH's lyrics lacked a charm that was in TFJ.

...I kind of love HTBAH, I think it's because I associate it with seeing her live, and it was a thousand times better live. I liked EH a lot more after hearing the songs live, actually.

/sounds like a proper stan right now

RikkuK 17th April 2013 03:37 AM

What's with this PV?

George 25th April 2013 02:50 PM

e.v.o.l was perfection. It's so catchy.

Another new song, duet with Charli XCX -"Just Desserts".

I don't really like it, it sounds like they've done loads of work to tone done Marina to fit with the other girl? It also sounds unfinished heh.

^ She did say the last part would come in August back in May or June. Also, I love the shirt! How did you make the print?

As for Lies, it just makes me angry that the label have pretty much ditched her. Primadonna did well, but they just seemed to stop trying. I hope they actually give her the budget to make another album, especially as they don't seem to be paying out for videos. I'm being a bit hyperbolic, but State of Dreaming was just as low budget. Hopefully there's a surprise in store with the final parts.

thinkingoutloud89 18th July 2013 12:15 AM

^it is no print, i drew it by hand XD

well, Lies is no single and so weren't most of the parts. I think she just wants to do this project her way...the label was is all ablout "album+singles" and she does her artistic stuff on a sidenote...wish I kinda like about it

George 18th July 2013 01:35 AM

^ That shirt is really really gorgeous.

I've been reading that the label basically cut her budget... and quite substantial at that. Otherwise, I don't think she would have went on with these videos. If I remember correctly she planned on having 15 parts but not it's down to 11 or 12. I guess when the singles didn't do as well as her label hoped, they slashed her budget. And I think she's recording the third album now or at least writing songs for it? She could be massive in the U.S. if her label promotes her properly.

Have you all heard the Electra Heart song? Here's the link if you haven't: http://****yeahelectraheart.tumblr.c...portland-or-im

WOW!! Congrats, that's so impressive!

I hate to hear artists like Marina have budgets problems. If Primadonna Girl proved them she just needs promotion, then I don't see why they don't give it to her. It's against their interests, too. Especially if they give too much money to other singers, just because they're already famous, which isn't necessarily bad, but then they come up with a stupid crappy video and you're kinda saying "Where the hell did the buget go??"
Videogames by Lana proves that for a good video most of all you need good ideas, not a lot of money.

That's amazing!!

She mentioned once that the most she's been given is for HTBAH? Or that she knew it was the last time she'd get a real budget? Something along those lines. It's good that's she's persevering with finishing the Electra Heart story though, you can tell she doesn't want to not deliver on something she wants to do, and knows people want to see.

You can really tell that she's decided not only to her fans but also her craft.

An interesting interview. Here's the link if you haven't seen in yet: http://vimeo.com/66033551

Such an amazing work Marina did with this album... I just gave it a heard some weeks ago, I always saw gifs of hers on tumblr but never bothered checking anything and now I regret it so hard. Wish I had followed everything from the begining. But still I'm amazed. Congrats, Marina, and R.I.P. Electra Heart

Spoiler:
I mean, R.I.P. unless you're coming back from your grave on PART 12: ♡ "LIVING DEAD" ♡

Finally got around to watching the interview, thanks for the link.

And, Marina, that label debt was the worst kept secret lol

I think it's telling that she said write in the UK and record in Scandinavia, especially as that seems to be THE place for music right now. Lots of great pop but also loads of indie stuff too. It could be anything. And what she said about the process of Electra Heart etc... was super interesting, it definitely seems like she's glad for the opportunity but regrets it a little.

As for the new stuff~ I liked the video, it was a good end to the era, and probably as much as she could do :(

Didn't like the song at all though, probably the first song by her that I've just outright disliked. I think it would be good as a 1:30min opening or a concert pump up track though.

I wonder where she'll go next? I'm really excited.

marty 9th August 2013 02:12 PM

Sadly, I didn't like the song at all, and I didn't really enjoyed the video too. First time it happens with Marina to me.

George 9th August 2013 04:49 PM

I like the song, and thought it was somehow a good choice to end the era with it. I also believe Valley of the Dolls would've worked too.

"Back to zero, here we go again, again.
Racin’ down into oblivion.
Back to zero, here we go.
I can feel it comin’ to the end, the end."

I think it fits perfectly.

Ugh. I wish her label didn't cut her budget. I'll always wonder how and what she envisioned this whole Electra Heart era to be.

So... This thread hasn't been updated in almost a year. Nothing really happened music wise with her except this.

Back in May, Betatraxx officially released a studio version of Electra Heart. It sounds just like the original version except they added a beat. It definitely adds a nice little touch to make the song sound more cohesive and structured. They also released a (Classical Version) of the song which is just a 6 minute piano instrumental of it. It's pretty though. Lastly they released a remix of the song. You can get the songs on itunes, beatport, and amazon mp3.

I'm not sure how this release works, but I think "Electra Heart" is now officially Betatraxx's song?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electra_Heart_%28song%29

I find it pretty annoying that they aren't all released as an "Electra Heart (Single)". Each song is a separate purchase on the music sites, and not all versions are available on each site.
You'd think it would be something like:

01. Electra Heart
02. Electra Heart (Classical Version)
03. Electra Heart (Betatraxx Remix)

But I guess that was too simple and organized for them. (However that's how I have them on my computer, all labeled as if they were the same single).

Irish_Ayu_Fan 14th July 2014 06:41 PM

Hope her next album is a mixture of Electra Heart and The Family Jewels. Like everyone else, I thought Electra Heart was fantastic but I'd love to hear songs more like "Are you satisfied?", "oh no" and "The outsider"!

relmy 11th November 2014 01:07 PM

Posted a while ago, it does feel half Electra Heart and half TFJ. Starts very EH but definitely feels TFJ by the end.

Album is out next April and she shared an interview on Facebook

http://www.thelineofbestfit.com/feat...iamonds-froot/

Froot will be happier, basically.
