Biggest Jpop Regret

Thought this may be an interesting topic.

What's your biggest regret in Jpop? Whether it's buying an album that was terrible, losing a disc, lending it to a friend who never returns it, forgetting to order something and missing out on a first press, etc.

I have a few.

1. Back in 2001 when I started listening, I spent way too much money buying albums/singles by artists I had only heard one song by. Big waste of money as most of the artists I ended up disliking barring the one song.

2. Selling off my Namie Amuro / Koda Kumi / BoA singles. Last year I was really struggling for money and was moving into my own house and was offered a good amount of money for these and took up the offer. I now regret it as now I only own their albums/DVD's/Blu's. I've been tempted to rebuy their singles, but since most of the content has ended up on albums that have released since, I'll probably just go forward and buy their future singles, but not back catalogue. Plus, the cost involved could go towards other future releases. - Really breaks my heart to now only have their albums, but I should be lucky I can afford those as I know many people would love to be able to buy them but find them too expensive.

3. Thinking overseas versions aren't worth it and spending my money on all Japan Versions. Sure, sometimes the packaging quality is significantly better, but when a single is twice the price for a Japan version than an overseas version, sometimes I can wait now. I have a great TV/sound system and have hardly noticed any difference in quality between the two types in the last few years. Pre 2003, there was some poor quality on the DVD's, but nothing all that noticeable now.

I know this may be a silly topic, but maybe we can all use it as a way to rant over our regrets and maybe support each other with our silly mistakes in the past. :thud

(*hint-hint* It's okay, elaniel. Don't worry about having sold those singles, it's good your moving ahead and not spending money on lots of back catalog titles) - I need some justification for not doing so :) LOL

buying all editions of singles with regards to most of the Johnny's that I support which was really crazy if not scary @_@

Sure the singles are OS press but everything all adds up . Also I freely buy singles as though they were free but in reality they ate up a lot of my $

So now I just buy singles from only 2 artistes & if an artiste has an OS press , I take it over a Japan press

- I'm awful with money so was constantly buying CDs and selling them for less when I needed money. I'd be scared to see how much I've lost.
- Bought Ai Otsuka Love Letter Tour Premium Box for about £100 off YeaAsia. Watched it on my laptop which overheated and switched itself off, marking the disc. And I saw it on eBay for around £45.

I don't personally have a regret, but I feel bad about my dad spending a lot of money on Japanese magazines that I ended up throwing away.

jpopfan 2nd January 2012 08:58 PM

My biggest regret was letting my brother borrow my cds while he had his Jpop/rock show on the radio. Some of them I still can't find like one of my Ayu first press singles of Rule and my Universe album by Kumi and the other ones now has cracks. But a lot of my cds I got back are now broken or cracked. It makes me upset every time and no one in my family understands why. A lot of them were first press editions and had to keep explaining how expensive these cds are..

Twinkle ! 2nd January 2012 10:11 PM

My biggest regret is letting my brother use my CDs playing music or see the booklet and my CDs were in awful condition , thank god he stopped messsing with my stuff the look so brand new :D

thesweetseason 2nd January 2012 10:25 PM

Not buying that darn NEXT LEVEL USB! I was hinting at everyone left, right and centre to get it for my birthday, but it didn't turn up, and by then, I couldn't even buy it myself!

Matthew 2nd January 2012 10:30 PM

1) Going through a period of buying all 3-4 versions of singles. Why did I bother?! Most of them are still sealed.

2) Paying full price for old albums when I could've got them dirt cheap at Book Off instead.

We kind of already have a thread for this

Ah, I never saw that thread. However this one isn't necessarily just for purchase regrets. ^.-

Aditmi Krisnasaki ~II~ 3rd January 2012 11:15 AM

got tricked by some record stores and bought some bootleg albums (which I thought were the legit ones) with the same price as the original ones. :(

So stupid. :no

Earth_maiden 3rd January 2012 01:10 PM

Buying Ai Otsuka's 2008 live DVD, and some merchandise. Then getting over Ai Otsuka and being stuck with all this stuff I didn't want anymore. Ended up selling about $150 worth of stuff on ebay for $15. >_<

Same with my Miyavi stuff, I can't get rid of all these CDs I have. :irked

xLuna&1LOVE 4th January 2012 07:44 PM

Buying Kanon Wakeshima's Shinshoku Dolce album... I gave it away as a 'gift'

JackieRos 5th January 2012 04:55 AM

I guess buying cds in general I don't even use them.
I rip them and stash it in the attic to gather dust.
Some of them I don't regret like ayumix 7 I haven't opened the cds but I don't regret it though.

kumiko.koda 6th January 2012 07:11 AM

I have sold CDs/DVDs from an artist because I wasn't interested in her anymore....
......but then the interest came back and I had to buy them again

I hope I won't make that mistake again.....

tokyoxjapanxfan 6th January 2012 04:26 PM

rnrc box set. seriously.

oh, and throwing away the plastic for the majority of my early Ayu purchases. haha

Lady~Deviance 7th January 2012 07:38 PM

Kazeyomi 7th January 2012 08:00 PM

my whole jrock collection.
I totally lost all of my interest on jrock, especially on Dir en Grey (my favorite jrock band back then).

I don't have many CDs or DVDs but some of them are like first press and quite rare. I must sold them on ebay :thud would be unfair keep them when someone else would like to own those albums.

AyumiSEASONS 7th January 2012 08:30 PM

I really regret buying alot of things that my brother destroyed that I know I have to replace. :/ I'm gonna feel really guilty just throwing away the CD's to rebuy them but they are almost unplayable. Needless to say I'm glad I live on my own now.

YUKARI 7th January 2012 08:59 PM

I only regret I gave BLUE BIRD CD+DVD to a friend as a birthday present. He's not my friend anymore and I suppose he never was... it's just sad that he didn't appreciate my present and I'm sure he's lost it by now :weep

happiholic★ 9th January 2012 12:53 AM

I regret buying 4 TIMES by Kuu last year. Biggest waste of money, because I want the album that is coming out, containing those songs and all 4 PVs are gonna be on the album. There was NO bonus for buying the single.

TeamAyu2004 9th January 2012 03:17 AM

I would have to say losing all of my cases to my Ayu collection... I still have the CD's and DVD's... but every single single and album from her Loveappears to Next Level gone...
I'm so sad because now I want to rebuy them to get all the cases back!!

ストロボ・EdGE 9th January 2012 03:55 AM

There's a lot of people with sucky brothers here.

Kanzaki 9th January 2012 04:04 AM

Being a complete idiot. I raged at all western music and worshipped anime OSTs and just refused to listen to anything but japanese pop music :laugh

Wow, I'd be REALLY pissed if that happened to me.

As for myself, I don't regret buying anything. The only things I do regret are getting Kalafina's Seventh Heaven CD cracked on the back of the case straight from CDJ. Also I myself have managed to accidentally slam the Red Moon booklet incorrectly against those booklet holders in the upper part of the case (I slid the booklet back wrongly resulting in one part of it above those holders and one under, then I couldn't close the case and instead of using my brain for thinking WHY I can't close it I just used my forced until it closed and it resulted eventually in the booklet being pressed in on sides and one of those holders being broken.)

LOL I know it's not a big deal (it's barely noticeable) but it still pisses me off because I'm really not strong on money and Kalafina is my favorite *input everything that has to do with music* and it really makes me mad to know all of my other purchases are intact but BOTH of Kalafina's CDs HAVE to be effed up.

Bad Wolf 23rd January 2012 02:38 AM

my only regret is something i couldn't control lol. i went to akihabara in the summer of 2010 and bought a bunch of ayu stuff second hand. i bought memorial address but once i unsealed it i saw it was the memorial address case -- with the never ever single inside lol. so... idk what to do about that. 8c memorial address, at that point in time, was the only ayu album i was missing. now i'm just missing love songs and five.

femtrooper 23rd January 2012 03:12 AM

My biggest regret is that I did not buy more Ayu CDs in Japan when I was there...I really should have. They were like $10!!!

Handjan 23rd January 2012 10:49 AM

I regret of buying A Best limited edition HK version on ebay. The seller didn't mention that it was HK version and it was my first purchase on ebay so I did nothing. Now it's the only disc in my collection that is not Japan press.

I also regret of buying Namie Amuro Dance Tracks, Original tracks, Sweet 19 blues and Style for more than 20$ for album. One guy from my city was selling them and I thought of buying only Style, but ended buying them all. Two years passed and I didn't even open them, cause actually I don't like these albums.

haha this happened to mme too with bookoff. I bought the ayumi II first press collection, but the AOV case held something elseentirely (I think JPN) so I had two of those discs and no AOV disc at all! :laugh

Otherwise, just a couple of purchases that I should've waited to get cheaper from other Book Offs. Orange Range comes to mind. Bought one of their bests for 500 yen at bookoff, even though it said it was 250. Was not happy, ha.

LadyDynamite 23rd January 2012 04:06 PM

I made a big scratch to my NEXT LEVEL limited edition CD.. it works, but it does'nt play Sparkle. I was really angry for myself. But after 3 years, i think i'm over it :D i can always get a new one someday.

toniayu 23rd January 2012 08:14 PM

When i was opening it, i broke the wrap of my A CLIP BOX . The wrap that comes with all the CD's,so many people throw away but i keep my CD's in it.Anyway it'll be like new coz is on the limited edition bag ^_^
I was feeling guilty about a week D: But now i'm fine.Should i feel guilty?? xD

Haha, my biggest J-Pop regret is buying that USB. It was so outrageously expensive, and the CDs had versions that were of much better quality, so I regret buying it.

That's exactly how I felt! :) I wanted to buy clothes and other things, lol, so I didn't want to have a ton of CDs in my suitcase!
