I ordered only from YesAsia for the longest, because I didn't know any better. Their prices are extortion, they will rape you. Although if you can get free shipping, it MAY work itself it, but I'd do the calculations.

Then I found out about CDJ and started ordering from them, because at the time I couldn't really read japanese and their site was quite easy to navigate. They offer all new releases at list price though, which can still be high, but it's less than YA for sure, but shipping on top of that can be a *****.

Take the 1998-2011 Limited Edition Blu Ray Clip Box for example.

Yesasia: $300ish + free shipping = about $300 total

CDJ: 23000 yen + 2260 shipping = 25260 yen = about $331

Amazon: They discounted the list price and charged me 16865 yen (HUMONGOUS discount!) plus 2000 yen shipping = about $248 total.

See the difference?

So I guess... if you're getting a lot of heavy items, or just a lot of items in general, YesAsia's free shipping might help. With CDJ, you pay a fair, standard price, and since they've offered FedEx shipping, I've gotten my stuff on release date! (Which is technically the date before release in Japan haha). And from now on, I'll be using Amazon if they discount the list price like they did with the clip box...I was floored at how much money I saved ;)

I always wonder way people think YesAsia is more expensive, I checked CD Japan and YesAsia. The price for the Limited Box with 5DVD's is at CDJapan 222,14$ and at YesAsia 215,75$. And I always check prices and YesAsia is always cheaper. Furthermore YesAsia has free shipping and for people in Germany YesAsia always ships their products first to Belgium and then to Germany. And because my CD's come from Belgium to Germany and both are in the EU I have to pay no taxes.

I don't get it. xD So often I read people talking about the high prices at YesAsia, but everytime I check they are cheaper!!!!!! Or have they different prices for EU and US?

I'm really confused... xD

You don't pay taxes? Why? I come from germany too and buy my cd's at yesasia everytime. But somestimes, i must pay taxes :/ And now, i really wonder why...

Haha I have the same experience as you with YesAsia. For me they have always been cheaper. And free shipping isn't really hard to get. You have to by at least a CD+DVD to get free shipping. In the end YesAsia have always been waaay cheaper for me. I never pay taxes either. They always mark my package as a "gift" the the swedish customs don't bother that one.

From YesAsia:
Orders shipping to UK and Germany are eligible for our tax-free (VAT-Free) offer if the selected shipping option is Standard Service. However, all Sony game products, including consoles, games and accessories, are not eligible for our tax-free (VAT-Free) offer.

Q: How can I enjoy free VAT (Value Added Tax) for shipments to the United Kingdom and Germany?

A: YesAsia.com will pay VAT (Value Added Tax) and custom duties on orders shipped to the United Kingdom and Germany via our Standard Shipping method. When placing an order, please choose the Standard Shipping option to enjoy VAT-free shopping.

In the event that VAT or customs duties are incurred, you may contact our Customer Service Department to request a refund in YesAsia Credit. Please note that an official receipt from your local customs agent or post office is required to successfully claim a refund. Our customer service team will guide you through the procedure once we receive your refund request.

Hope that helps.^^ In case you have to pay taxes just contact them. My expiriences with their customer support were always positive!

Yeah me too. I got my A CLIP BOX Blu-ray edition from Amazon and it is indeed 16865 yen, much cheaper than the list price of 24000 yen. But this time, they don't have a discount for the Party Queen boxset. I've still pre-ordered (I am addicted to Ayu's stuff) and the price is 18900 yen. I wonder why they no longer give discounts...

Chibi-Chan 5th February 2012 04:02 PM

^that's why I was thinking that they have different prices for EU and US.^^ 'Cos for both of us yesasia is always cheaper and for Pieces of SEVEN they are always more expensive.

Heavenly 5th February 2012 08:12 PM

I used to order with Play-Asia first, but because of bad experiences (damaged cases, etc.) i changed for YesAsia. I placed some orders on CDJ, but they are really expansive to me...
I ordered twice on Amazon.co.jp (the LOVE&HOPE book, and recently the CLIP BOX) : each time i had to pay ~€45 (~$50) customs fees...
I did pay customs with CDJ when I had a big order one time (with fast shipment).
I think that the fastest you get, the more you've to pay at the customs xDD

(Yeah... CDs & DVDs are baaaad things :laugh)

It's not always true you just need to do your homework for every single release.
Cos in this release case here's a guide on the major online websites

^Are the prices from HMV, CDJapan and Amazon including shipping?

I already pre-ordered from Amazon. Its shipping by DHL is pretty fast. I usually get the item one or two days after the release date in Japan. What about YesAsia?

Nope. Only YA comes with free* (min $39USD) regular airmail service. Which will take about 2 weeks. HOWEVER, if you got the money to pay for DHL service for the other online shops, just FYI, YA do provides express shipping too. so I don't think that's of any problem.

ayuuk 6th February 2012 05:23 AM

^Do you usually choose free shipping or express shipping? How much is their express shipping, take the Blu-ray limited box, for example?

Express Service US$22.94 2 - 5 Business Days

I choose free shipping since I'm not really in a hurry to get my items.
However, the blu ray box is long sold out on YA.

I believe they are without shipping? COz I tried ordering at CDJ and with shipping it was so much more exensive than YA. SO I think, when you make a chart like this, you should also put a price of shipping. Coz now you mislead people. They may think CDJ or HMV are cheaper, will place the order and will regret?

And I dunno but for me YA is always cheaper than CDJ or nay other site. And I'm from Poland. Should we ask anyone from US to tell us about their shipping fees? Maybe it's all about the shiping which makes such sites less expensive to some while more expensive to others?

emi♡ 6th February 2012 11:47 AM

YA is always cheaper for me than cdj, even if its only by a few dollars. And especially after cdj's exorbitant shipping prices. But I think usually the deciding factor for most people comes down to the shipping. CdJ is more reputable than YA in general.

Thanks to whoever made that chart *_* very appreciative~ that would be kinix lol thanks :)

I don't wana add in the shipping fee because YA is ONLY giving free for regular airmail. If you used the other shops, they're providing EMS/DHL/fedex which YA also provides. It's totally different shipping from the free regular airmail. And all the store's shipping price for express shipping is almost the same. So putting in the shipping price in this chart will only make YA seems lousy for providing slow shipping.

MissElin_ 6th February 2012 05:05 PM

Maybe someone could make a super duper advanced chart with shipping (including all different shipping services with different shipping time and cost) on one side and without shipping on the other side. :D It's very interesting to look at actually.~

You made a mistake on Power of Music- 2011 A Limited Edition [Blu-ray] for CDJapan it's $87.72 not $75.09.

I think which service is better ultimately depends on where you live. Although its list prices are inflated, for me (US), an order at Yesasia with "free" shipping still ends up costing less than one with the comparable shipping rate at CDJapan. HMV and Amazon JP are almost always more expensive, also. I rarely check them outside of Amazon resellers.

Basically, I find that YesAsia is best for ordering lots of stuff, whereas CDJapan is good for ordering one small thing at a time. I usually do a price match between the two, as you suggested, and it usually works out this way.

Wow, really? Amazon.jp usually has the lowest prices of any of the retailers. Usually you can get the product plus shipping for just under/above retail price since they have MASSIVE discounts sometimes.
