For anyone interested in the new composers' previous works:
http://corin.jp/works/works_2012.html - corin.'s official page for all songs he's worked on
http://creator.avex-management.jp/?p...=onishikatsumi - Katsumi Ohnishi's page at avex management's site with a list of his works/concerts he's participated in

It looks as though this is one of her most diverse albums when it comes to the composers used. She almost has a different composer for every track!

Aderianu 14th March 2012 07:46 AM

Dimitris Stassos

Katsumi Ohnishi - is he new composer for Ayu?

truehappiness 14th March 2012 07:53 AM

I don't think that Katsumi is going to be a new composer for Ayu but we'll have to see in future releases!

It's really odd how a lot of old/new composers popped up for this album.

Jester 14th March 2012 07:55 AM

I have no surprise why I love Return Road. haha

Ashen Twilight 14th March 2012 08:12 AM

I wonder where that DAI track came from? If it's from a while ago I hope she decides to use "Who... PT II" in a future release. Or that track she composed around Rule/Sparkle.

truehappiness 14th March 2012 08:16 AM

It's probably from a while ago. I don't think any of the DAI compositions we've had since NEXT LEVEL had been done at the time of release. It doesn't seem like DAI does compositions anymore otherwise he'd still be working with the group he helped create, Do As Infinity.

That Who... pt.2 thing needs to stop being spread around. I don't think it was ever used to describe the song being made by Kazuhito Kikuchi which was just a 'great ballad' according to his manager. Somehow tweets got mixed up, I think.

Ashen Twilight 14th March 2012 08:18 AM

Can't a boy dream? *sparkly, googly eyes*

inspire_rmx 14th March 2012 08:29 AM

I love her choice of composers this time round =) Awesome to see the familiar composers like DAI and BOUNCEBACK are back. and definitely even more glad to see Ayu using so many new composers this time round

freedreamer 14th March 2012 09:13 AM

Still awaiting the Kazuhito Kikuchi and Tetsuya Yukumi comeback one fine day :D
BUT! im not complaining about these composers either :)

If I recall well, Who Part II was used to describe Virgin Road before L release was announced.

krazeyo 14th March 2012 09:48 AM

Hanif Sabzevari; Lene Dissing;Marcus Winther-John; Dimitri Stassos - what work have they've done for other artists? Seems like quite a diverse group of people

I found the tweets. It looks like he said that it could possibly become "Who... two" and sent the demo to her.

The people who did Tell me why did quite a few tracks for Ivi Adamou. Not sure what else they've done besides their work for her.

LONJJONG 14th March 2012 11:26 AM

Also cheers for Timmy!

YUKARI 14th March 2012 12:11 PM

DAI the best! :heart

and I like light pop-rock songs composed by Katsumi Ohnishi! very fresh :D

TeamAyu2004 14th March 2012 12:17 PM

I am loving call and letter.. now that i know they were composed by the same person, it makes sense why they flow so well together...
and the jazz stuff. I may not like but seeing that it was done by timmy makes me somewhat indifferent about it... going from NaNaNa to the jazz to HBYR, it's amazingly diverse.

TITANIC 14th March 2012 12:17 PM

oh yes DAI is awesome no wonder return road is one of the best track on the album

bondingo 14th March 2012 12:52 PM

No surprise the worst songs on the album are all composed by Timmy :shrug

Though I do like Pq and hbya. Took some time, but I do.

This is how I felt reading the credits. The exception is the next LOVE, which I do like and NaNaNa, which I don't like and he didn't compose, but he does take over the PV.

Catzi 14th March 2012 02:27 PM

Alright! DAI!! =)

I wonder how BOUNCEBACK will be... I didn't really like some of their compositions the first time.

stivenoto 14th March 2012 02:35 PM

i just wish for CREA to comeback for Ayu's next single/ album....

Yay!! More DAI Pls, n more new composers pls....

Refix 14th March 2012 02:38 PM

LoL. I appreciate his diversity. I love the style of "the next LOVE", reminds me of Ella Fitzgerald, even though the track sounds very unoriginal.

DAI <3 Return Road <333

The only Timmy tracks I really like are BRILLANTE and the next LOVE. E,S,M is just okay and the worst are HBYA and PQ.

MissElin_ 15th March 2012 11:54 AM

^Oooh look at that. I agree with you with 100%. :yes

maneayu 15th March 2012 01:09 PM

I love all DAI compositions, but wait...

wasn't it DAI the initials of names, in between, the A of DAI is Ayu :O

Calico 15th March 2012 03:29 PM

^DAI is Dai Nagao, which is where the DAI comes from =P (if that's what you mean)

Very impressed with the list of names on thsi album. I'm guessing she/avex have been sitting on the DAI and BOUNCEBACK compositions for a while (although I think BOUNCEBACK are still active, yeah?)

love in music 15th March 2012 03:51 PM

i hope she'll continue to experiment with different composers like she did for this album instead of sticking to the same ones most of the time. the composers did a fantastic job on these tracks!

adantatu2 15th March 2012 10:33 PM

DAI you did an awesome and epic song!!!
Without Return Road, this album would be not the same

Kanzaki 15th March 2012 11:02 PM

Wow, all kinds of nationalities represented here. '

Marcus Winther-John is danish-english and he's written songs for MLTR before. Lene Dissing is also a danish songwriter, she's written some entries for the ESC. That's kinda cool to see!

Pieces_of_SEVEN 15th March 2012 11:22 PM

Yeah, E,S,M is definitely my least favorite track on this album :(

visionfactory 16th March 2012 12:42 AM

I'm surprised not seeing an english name on taskebab, it's definitely this Daft Punk song!!

the part in question is at 01:04 (on taskebab that part begins at 00:51)

That's because Tell me why was sampled from this song. They were the composers of the original and were credited as such :D. Ayu always gives credit where credit is due :).

It's probably more appropriate to say that they sampled Aerodynamic [or used the same guitar tapping sample].

I think tasuku has a habit of sampling tracks for his interludes but at the same time, doing that kind of gets him labeled as a plagiarist.

adantatu2 16th March 2012 01:13 AM

another task interlude (i can't remember) got a sample from Hoobastank, so isn't a big surprise for me,lol

They may have used the same sample.

taskinst was the one that seemed to sample Hoobastank's "Don't Tell Me" and tasking used an identical sample as S.F.A's "Beyond Hope" for Granado Espada.

Since this has happened 3 times in a row [or more]... I think it's not exactly plagiarism.

Indie 16th March 2012 02:12 AM

Well, no wonder I like Return Road so much. Timmy's tracks here are a bit of a let down, tbh. I mean, they're not actually bad, just kind of simple and slightly boring next to all the other tracks.

Wow I didn't know all those tracks weren't the original ones. I feel relieved that it's not plagiarism then ^_^

Actually, when Ayu song credited as DAI (any songs from Ayu debut era until today), it's only Nagao Dai, the Do As Infinity mastermind, not the whole band. You can read this complete fanpage about DAI, she even listed some Ayu songs there.

If you know about the "new" Do As Infinity (Reformed back in 2008, and still releasing until today), there's an official statement said that Nagao Dai isn't the part of the band anymore, you can hear the difference as well in the music, it's slightly different from their previous works when Nagao Dai still in the band.

I need more Nagao Dai materials though, his composition are just pure magic.

That's not what th meant; he meant that Return Road is most likely an old composition, because DAI doesn't even compose for Do As Infinity (or in general?) anymore. He didn't mean that Do As Infinity had anything to do with Ayu's DAI songs.

Ah I see, seems like I got it wrong then.
Anyway, even though he doesn't compose for Do As Infinity anymore, I don't think it's an old material. Why come into conclusion it's an old material? He seems not really busy.

Pieces_of_SEVEN 19th March 2012 02:14 AM

Is there a website, or some kind of resource where I can go to reference composers and arrangers for all of her songs?

Queen Bee 19th March 2012 03:40 AM

^I usually use http://www.uta-net.com/

It just seems odd that only Ayu is getting 'new' compositions from DAI aside from his own projects.

It's entirely possible that NEXT LEVEL onward were all new, but usually when his compositions pop up there's only one per release. (NEXT LEVEL, BALLAD, and now Return Road) It leads me to believe that he isn't really around composing new music for Ayu. He just disappeared for 2-3 years after BLUE BIRD and then suddenly came back for an album. It was a little odd imo.

mellody 19th March 2012 05:19 AM

You may be right, since he's actually a composer and starts as a composer, and yet he has a self-label as well, not sure if it's under avex or not.

My wish for Ayu album full of DAI has gone forever then.

u're not alone! all the songs i like are composed by timmy! oh my, he's really good! :thud

His compositions are not unique. He's just taken other genres and made them crappier. It makes me cringe thinking that some ayu fan's only exposure to jazz and swing music could be the next love and eyes, smoke, magic.

It isn't trust me. I mean that they are unique in ayu's career, and her career only, not generally in the said genre.

Andrenekoi 18th April 2012 03:59 PM

^As a POP musician, I don't think she was trying to reach a new elevated way of performing jazz... This is pop music: watered down version of much complex music genres for the masses...

Isicio 21st April 2012 05:05 AM

I think Timmy has a good job with PQ and HBYA, I love the rap of NaNaNa I thought it would be worse.

SURREAL__RAINBOW 21st April 2012 07:23 AM

Timmy is okay, why would he compose some really underground and experimental thing for her when she's obviously still mainstream :shrug She isn't an Indie singer yet LOL And she probably picked what she liked and chose the final results. It's not his decision as he said, it's all what ayu wants and it's not really up to him what becomes part of her work or not, she has the last word.

And I'm happy with what they've achieved so far, he said he was working on a new song a few days ago and said it was going to be good and sad, or something.

brener 21st April 2012 09:29 AM

i loved timmy compositions, but i hope he wont always be backing vocal all of them..

millie47 30th April 2012 01:53 PM

no wonder I find Call so DAI-ish... :D

Agreed. I mean, yes this is pop, but he still could have done a better job. Its not impossible to take a complex genre and water it down for the pop masses. I mean, I like the next LOVE a lot, but its still the most basic, stereotypical jazz song ever. He's mediocre at best, for me. I've heard pop-jazz done well, that sounds truly unique, and it blows Timmy's stuff out of the water.

jewelbox 30th April 2012 04:31 PM

The main difference between timmy and for example DAI + yuta nakano is that Timmy cannot compose songs for Ayu's voice. Those musical songs are plain horrible, and they work for best with voices like Aguilera's (for example). And HBYA.... I'm not even going there

Evolution7/4 30th April 2012 04:40 PM

^Well I have to argue on that point for the next LOVE. that fits her voice and vibrato perfectly!

Kazeyomi 30th April 2012 04:58 PM

IMO hbya fits well for Ayu's voice. Don't get why people call it 'too western' or not ayuish when it sounds like some of her ballads. And it's not like Timmy is forcing Ayu to choose his songs lol. If Ayu loves that song we can't complain about Timmy.

I kinda agree that the jazzy songs aren't that unique though, but it's always nice to hear Ayu doing something different. Timmy is like a breath of fresh air, as much as I love her usual composers she have to change. Or she wouldn't be the Ayu I know.

Everytime Ayu approaches a genre for a random song, she does it on the most stereotypical way. 1Love did it with Hard Rock, Bold & Delicious did it with the gospel choir, Guilty heavier tracks did it with melodic metal, and it goes on... More than being innovative, I guess the overall idea is being easily recognizible for people who aren't that aware of the genre...

I would disagree with Bold & Delicious, it has a gospel choir, sure, but I don't think that it sounds like a typical gospel song. And I've been to enough churches to know.

Andrenekoi 1st May 2012 09:00 AM

^It doesn't sound like a gospel song, but the choir is used on the most stereotypical way possible, as I believe there are far more innovative ways of using it (Madonna's Like a Prayer comes to mind)

IMO it's not about making innovative music, but about creating "images" to the listener through elements token from different aesthetics...
