I don't get the title either...
|
The lyrics give me the image of a girl who wants to live a life that's completely different from her dull parents. Maybe she wants to escape into showbusiness: the world of "eyes, smoke and magic"?
The lyrics are kind of humorous. I love how she's like "And today, for a change, he's eating nachos instead of popcorn" :laugh |
I really like the lyrics O_O
They're like the total opposite feel to the song. I wonder if ill change my mind on it. |
These lyrics are awesome LOL How depressing.
|
Hurmmmm... I'm still blur........
|
What an odd song.
|
My version for those interested:
Spoiler:
|
To me this sounds like she sees reality but wants to pretend and see something else "eyes, smoke, magic"...
Not sure why she is refering to her parents, but yeah... It's strange indeed. |
what interesting lyrics!! hahha..im sure there's soemthing she's trying to say. and coming from ayu who never really had a papa...it seems like the mama's feeling neglected >.<
|
I still like this better than the next LURV.
|
lol this is an odd song xD I guess thats why i love it so much xD
|
I like it a lot :)
|
Well, basically Mamma and Papa's marriage fell apart. So she doesn't like to acknowledge that so she pretends it didn't happen. What she saw with her eyes and did not like, she pretended not to see or notice, imagined it was something else, like smoke, and magic, gone.
Seems like its a song about ignoring known problems. I think the reference to diamonds and roses symbolizes her unwillingness to fall into the same slump, sorta like, "Who needs love, when there's diamonds and roses?" |
I think it was related to Eye make-up I believe...
Smokey Eyes is Magic I guess xD |
I dont think it's related to her life.
|
I was looking forward reading the translations of E,S,M and the next LOVE. I really love these songs. ♥ Thank you both for translating! :) I really appreciate it!
Maybe the "Eyes, Smoke, Magic" is some kind of a magic spell? Or not really, how could I say it... :D The song is from a child's point of view whose family is unhappy. She's repeating the words to think of something else, happier things. |
Thank you for the translation! I've been really looking forward to E,S,M!
|
Haha I wonder if this is referring to Timmy's parents? I didn't get the sense it was referring g to Ayu's parents either
|
^ maybe you're right about it, I think of Timmy on the lyrics too
|
I feel like "Eyes, Smoke, and Magic" are words associated with putting on a show? So I feel like as she continues not to pretend to not notice her parents relationship break, she continues the "show" of family? maybe?
Interesting lyrics! Thanks! |
Interesting : o Thanks for the translation

It's a very ironic and interesting song, i like it (one of the few that i like from Party Queen) |
love this song.

I think she mentions her parents because, in her personal sense, her parents are the ultimate form of broken love, no? And if you're going to go for the sense that Eyes, Smoke, Magic refers to the idea of being stuck in an illusion, then... well, this is the best one. Ayu imagining herself as a kid with her parents, though the image isn't perfect. |
I also don't think this song is referring to ayu's parents as 'popcorn' n 'nachos' are being used in the lyrics. for older days japanese would have something else as a snack rather than these 2? might have been wrong but these seems to comes from a more western family.
|
I could totally relate to the lyrics, I love this song now. ;d
They are very ironical. |
I really like the lyrics, when I heard Papa and Mama, I wondered what would come out of it, taking into account her pesronal past, and it's been a very interesting result. Thank you for the translations, as always.
Btw, my two cents about the title: Eyes, Smoke, Macgis are like the three steps to a magic trick. First you have to see what it appears to be, then it dissapears, and then it comes the result. Anyone have seen Nolan's The Prestige, well, something like that, but used metaphorically for her deliberate failure to notice. Bravo Ayu! |
Can't get the relationship bewteen Eyes smoke magic and the other lyrics of this song..But is still one of my favourites of this album, love the atmosphere it creates
|
Thank you for the lyrics! Really interesting lyric I must say.
|
I like the second translation better. Seems to imply - all you need in life is material posessions because relationships only bring unhappiness, but that view is ignorant and behind the "eyes, smoke, magic".
I still hate this song, but those lyrics are just not what I expected. So dark. Adds another dimension I didn't see before. |
So odd.
|
Just sounds to me like her mom is unhappy with her father because he's seemingly lazy and uncaring. ayu sees this, and it upsets her, and in typical ayu fashion, she closes her eyes to it and pretends that everything is OK.
|
interesting!!
|
I think that, continuing with the theme of love being hopeless that we see throughout the album, Ayu is stating that love and marriage is pointless because it just boils down to a broken relationship. And she'll take the diamonds and roses instead while casting an ironic eye on her parents.
|
Wow, definitely confused...weird!
|
isn't it obvious? I think she's singing about her parents.
her parents are having a failed marriage; the verses narrate how they aren't really communicating at all. when she sings about how her best friends are roses and diamonds, yet her mom never taught the value of them or something, it felt as though she was trying to say her mom never really taught her anything about life... remember it was her grandmother she was the closest to in her younger days. very good lyrics imo. |
Could she be singing about her own marriage as well from the point of view of a little girl??
Maybe thats why she questions whether she has grown up. Maybe Mannie ate Popcorn and Nachos before...lol |
Popcorn and nachos? She's come quite a long way since Seasons, eh?
(Lovin' PQ's EPIC lyrics, yup.) |
^
^wow i like this idea! and it makes more senses with the popcorn and nachos lol. |
^Considering ALL the other lyrics on Party Queen, Ayu was the one not communicating...
The album seens to be about how her marriage failed cuz she tends to ignore her personal problems... |

I hope ayu finds love again ... but for real. |

thnx 4 the translation |
To: tenshi no hane
Mama’s face looks even more depressed "Depressed" is "gakkari shita" or "rakutan shita", different from "fukigen na". I think "sullen" or "ill-tempered" would be better. |
The lyrics don't make me like the song even a bit more, not interesting to me :V

Odd.... reminds me of a book I read last yr.....
|
Maybe Ayu is Mama and Mannie was Papa? We're the little kids watching? ;) Or she is both Mama and the little kid pretending not to notice? Hmmm...
Interesting (and somewhat amusing with popcorn and nacho's.. hmmm nacho's...) lyrics though. |
