Ok so little alan update...She is working on her next album/EP right now. She just finished composing her first Chinese song yesterday!

And AI made a little anniversary video for her~ Well the video will explain it :laugh

OMG I WAS THINKING OF THIS VIDEO THIS MORNING WHEN I SAW ALAN'S TWEET. she didn't mention the video lol but she talked about her anniversary and i just wanted to squee. i'm so sad i wasn't able to participate in it :c

China. Apparently she doesn't have a Japanese contract anymore.

I knew about that... i just didnt know if she had gotten a new one or what...
wasnt she part of avex? just another reason to dislike them (if she was)

Her only contract is in China now. I don't think she's planning on returning to Japan ever anyways.

What do you mean by not returning to Japan “ever”?
It was Japan who made alan this far and popular, without avex trax's contract...alan wouldn't be no where near like she is, today. And...we all possibly wouldn't even know her.
You should be thank full for that...

and i think it makes total sense to say that alan probably won't go back to japan, at least not for a while. i don't know if she was ever really comfortable in that market, or with all that she had to go through to learn the language, live alone, etc. i'm sure she's nothing but grateful (as are the fans, of course), but i think if it comes down to her being able to sing AND be happy in her personal life, focusing on the chinese market's looking like her best bet. if music is alan's life, then her family must be a close, close, close second, and i would want her to be able to spend more time with them which might be easier if she's working primarily in china.

i won't pretend it doesn't depress the hell out of me, though :c "ashita e no sanka" STILL gives me chills to this day, and it's one of the reasons i wanted to start studying japanese, so i could listen to that song and know what she was saying without needing a translation. well, looks like i'll have to learn mandarin now for all that. :thud

@TeamAyu: In many interviews, alan stated something to the effect of "If I renewed my contract with Avex, then that's at least another 3 years, but I'm not a little girl anymore, so I need to be careful with my decisions"

She really loves her family because she has said that she hasn't lived together with her dad since she was 14. Her mother gave up her job to look after her, so her family has always been separated since she was little.

:laugh The plus side of learning Mandarin is you'll learn more kanji...which is gonna be hell :laugh

aww, then this is as good a time as any to reconnect with them. i think it might be a great boost for alan's music, too. happiness and peace seem to be a great muse for her (but i could be wrong? idek).

lmao yes that's one of the major drawbacks to learning mandarin. SO MUCH STUFF CRAMMED INTO MY BRAIN, SO MUCH OW WHY. but that's not really that important. THIS IS HOW MUCH I LOVE YOU, ALAN. I WOULD SUFFER LANGUAGE HELL FOR YOU.

on the subject of her chinese music and growing career, i think it works also because she seems much more appreciated over there. that makes sense of course, on a bunch of levels (japanese music industry is the second largest in the world, acts come and go, alan's music isn pretty niche/atypical for an artist, etc... the list goes on), and it's just another reason that i feel like her chinese music career is bittersweet for me. sweet because alan gets a nice bedrock of support and bitter because MANDARIN FFS :headache

To be honest, I hate her Chinese company so much...(If people have me on Facebook, you would know :laugh)

But I have faith in alan! She's not someone who just compromise for the sake of others! She will do the music that she wants and something her company push onto her!

1. On Weibo, they had an event where fans could submit the title for the album and the person who had the best title gets a prize. The company just forgot about the event.
2. On Weibo, they had another event where you take a picture of your alan collection and how much alan means to you. The company also forgot about the event.
3. They paid a lot of money for Leslie Kee to shoot the album covers, but only 3 shots were used.
4. They decided to make short films instead of MVs and the short films didn't make much sense.
5. The arrangement on the album sucked especially for Phoenix. The person that arranged is was also the album jacket designer. He just sucks all the way for me.
6. BABY BABY was such a generic song that her company wanted her to sing because it's mainstream.
7. They said the album would be released in February this year. They then said March. They then said April. They then said May. And finally, it was released in June.
8. They said that they made a Love Song app, but it wasn't released onto the App Store till August. 2 months after they announced it...
9. They said that they were going to let alan tour 26 cities to promote her album (with fanmeetings/events), but she only had 1 album release press conference in Beijing and that was it.
10. They wanted alan to focus on shooting movies/dramas (because sadly, that's how the Chinese entertainment industry works. Actresses can get more recognition than singers, so singers have to become actresses to be famous)

(Also another reason why I love alan even more is that she was fed up with all the ballads/generic song demos they were giving her, so she asked her labelmate, Anson Hu, to write Yi Ai Xiang Yi for her. At least this song is a song with alan flair!

HOW CAN A MAN WHO WORKS WITH PHOTOGRAPHS ARRANGE A FLIPPIN ALBUM? as loathe as i am to say it, this does explain why i found "love song" to be a pretty forgettable album, which isn't really something i say about alan's stuff often. i think i've listened to it once or twice but i can only remember a few tracks... none of them specific to the album.

oh my god, i take back everything i said about this being the person for her personally. :weep this sounds like an even bigger clusterscrew than i anticipated.

(omg is that so? it's a dilemma with me. i love love love alan having traditional/slower songs to sing because i think they fit her voice perfectly, but i can see why she'd be frustrated with it as an artist, since it isn't exactly exciting or new territory... i hope they let her compose more stuff)

And as much as I loved the Crystal Lotus intro, it was totally out of place on the album X_X

(Don't worry! alan is! I can't wait to hear it and I really respect alan because she told me personally that if she have to compromise for the Chinese market, she would rather not sing anymore. She knows what she wants out of her career :luv2)

i'll have to give "love song" another listen with all this in mind. i might end up liking it despite myself. i think her weakest release thus far is "my life," though. :( that just felt so WEAK. but maybe i'll like it more than "love song." who knows!

The story behind this song is that it translates as "Passing By South Minami"
South Minami is where Avex's headquarters are located (and the arrangement for this song is the best :luv2)

This is EXACTLY what I think/how I feel. If she continued to do these really atypical, almost traditional sounding songs and specialized in them I think they'd really be her niche. Kind of like how I wish Kuu would do more midtempo ballads (those are always so gorgeous ;w;). I feel like her more mainstream attempts were a little weak, only because her voice is too epic for it lol.

omg could you imagine?! she'd be the goddess of historical movie music and I WOULD SING HER PRAISES TIL THE END OF TIME. well, even more than i do already.

ETA: My really belated assessment of Love Song is that the intro track, though it doesn't fit, is pretty awesome, and to me the stand out best song is "窗外." Now to just find lyrics lol

^see! The pommy girly punch always works! Chuang Wai is also one of my favorite! She just sounds so pretty in it and the song just gives me such a nice imagery! The intro totally reminds me of something Sa Ding Ding would make, so I hoe they can work together one day! Or Sa Ding Ding can write a song for her *___*

Whatever it was, it worked! I've been really depressed lately (I'm bipolar, actually, so this is one of those stupid cycle things) and I had to work this morning so I put on alan and... well, I felt lighter and very calm. Still depressed lol but alan's voice was a nice comfort to get me through some of the darker bits. I hope the flowers liked hearing her XD

and omg, both you AND a friend of mine mentioned Sa Ding Ding and how she should work with alan. Clearly I need to finally listen to my Sa Ding Ding albums lol.

Is her Japanese career permanently over? I know her avex contract is up (good riddance tbh) but is she still looking to get signed by any other labels? She had so much potential...and her first album was completely flawless. It'd be a waste if she never returned...a switch to say...Universal could do wonders for her image in Japan :(

alan seems to be really comfortable in China, she is with her parents, friends and i don't know if she wants to return to Japan because she was lonely there. She said she will return to perform again one day in a concert i guess.

In an interview, alan was asked what moved her for her 5th anniversary and one of the first thing she said was "international fans made a video for me"

And I do think when alan said that she might return to Japan for a concert that she was just trying to comfort us. I really don't think she'll ever return especially with all the political tension between China and Japan.

At first, honestly, I was afraid of her career in China turning out to be a mess and weak compared to her Japanese career, but it turned to me as strong as the Japanese, even if it's a bit messy :laugh I will not feel sad if she never goes back to Japan as long as she keeps on the good trial she is now in :)

Many of her chinese songs are generic, and the music videos are a mess, and she doesn't release music often anymore. IMO
It's sad T_T. But there are some exceptions like the beautiful 以爱相宜

Yeah for me it's like she's gone, the alan that I fell in love with...

I really miss those days when she would release heaps of new music and pvs

I like to see it as alan being happier -- she's closer to friends and family (who are really important to her). She gets to work in her native language (which puts her back into another comfort zone). She might have taken a step out of the Japanese music industry and sort of gone from one complication to another (her career in China has been really weird so far [just ask pommy about her label XD]), but ultimately if it's something that will make alan happy, then I'm happy :yes

And if she's doing it for a show, probably she'll release those songs somewhere, cuz It doesn't make sense to record song just to sing "live" and not release them.
