I was just thinking this morning that, even if of course I want new music, I'm really, really glad Ayu didn't put out anything yet. It gave me time and space to elaborate LOVE again, and pass over the horrible marketing thing to appreciate that half of it is actually utter perfection. I somehow hope she's gonna wait until the beginning of the next year to give us something else, lol. I don't know why, but I'd like her to take her sweet time with the next release and then surprise us all with something out of the blue. Kinda like with Party Queen, lol.

I still keep hoping for that epic rock song because we all know she can pull that off. I love rocker Ayu!

I personally want something dancy from Ayu next. Something electronic like Party queen. I love those electropop songs so much♥

For me, ourselves is really good, Grateful days is good, HANABI ~episode II~ is alright. Not my favorite single.

Days/GREEN was a pretty good single. However, Together When... was digital only, and the song isn't so amazing that it could stand a chance being pinned against proper single releases... It'd have to be common knowledge that it was the best song released in her discography, which it isn't. And BALLAD is a beautiful song, which I have grown accustomed to more and more over time, however, the single it was featured on was not that great either - the photoshoot was stunning, and the You were... PV was very artistic and beautiful (as well as the BALLAD PV), however, You were... cannot hold a candle to the better arranged winter ballads she had released prior.

I'm late to the ABL live CD talk, but I was listening to Memorial Address and I was all, this is great... Until she turned into her dark monster voice. It doesn't fit when she goes that deep.

Since Summer is over, of course I'm already thinking about the winter playlists, lol... and I was checking Ayu's winter singles, and I couldn't believe how better You Were Music Box version is compared to the normal one! Like, You Were... is really nice and all, but that Music Box Mix is just magical!! (Already can't wait for Xmas, lol)

^ is it on the single? I heard it a couple of times but never managed to track the song down anywhere.

Talking about music boxes..this is kind of interesting approach of Surreal, i totaly would want it as a ringtone!

Personally i feel that Together When is on a whole 'nother level emotionally, it always brings me to tears and the arrangement is so beautiful. The whole Guilty album was flawless in general, sadly it's really underrated and overlooked by fans. I agree with You Were, it's far from her most memorable winter ballad, it's very "by the book" but it's still great. I only mentioned BALLAD though cause it's one of my favorites by her.

I just realized how all the singles i mentioned are winter ballads, lmfao i guess i'm a sucker for them.

I'm not here for your comment as GREEN is my favorite song by her, and one of my favorite songs in the whole world.

The Panasonic CM mix of GREEN was fantastic. I was a little disappointed in the single cut. Anyways, GREEN is still one of her best songs and second best on NEXT LEVEL.

I'm sorry you have such bad tastes in ayumi songs. lol. :p Green has got to be one of the... um... just down right unwanted songs, lol.. and the PV itself doesn't help it. Boring, drag, and insufferable comes to mind. And I think I'm being kind. LOL

seriously though, it was Green that made me lose faith in the girl to begin with... It was one disaster after another and Green was just the last straw in the bunch... which is a shame... its such a great color... LOL

I thought GREEN was crap, but one of her performances of it made me like it more, because it was one of the few performances where it was just her on stage, singing a song, and just everything actually being pretty.

That hardly ever happens.


People do have some weird ass taste though. But then, I was never one for her ballads. They're pretty, but I don't care for her mix of generic ballad with...ayu-strange-melodies.

If I want a generic ballad, I want the catchy, pretty melody that other people do better.

Well I always felt You were... was just so "FORCED". I felt the chorus was just a lot of shouting, like she was trying to get across a strong emotion, but the melody was just too bland. I love the kimi ga i... etc melody part though. The verses are nice but the chorus sounds as if it thinks it's better than it really is.

I also agree about GUILTY being a great album. It really evokes a certain emotion and I love that about it. The entire image of the album GUILTY exudes exactly what the album consists of I believe.

And yes, I have been working out religiously now for the past 2 1/2 years. Lol.

I place You were... near the top in my list of favorite ballads. My first impression of it was that it was generic and bland. After getting over my obsession with its A-side sister BALLAD, it grew on me very quickly. I think the melody is gorgeous from start to finish and Ayu does what she can with her smaller voice. I have no complaints (anymore).

I'm suddenly obsessed with MY STORY

Her voice sounds so beautiful and easy to listen to, her lyrics are powerful (always though), I can hear her emotions... omg ayu :weep

MY STORY gets so much crap here but it is my favorite album. I had been listening to it a lot again recently and I thought the same thing. Her voice was very smooth and warm sounding.

You two, guys.. I love you this moment~

They're right.
I mean, I do think the album is boring but her voice is pretty soft. Her singing in Moments and walking proud is gorgeous, even in Liar and About You it sounds really controlled.

And here's an unpopular opinion:

The last part where the music gets heavier and Ayu's distorted laugh comes in are EPIC.

Yes I was also going to mention that her voice sounded very controlled. I feel like those songs were made for her voice at that current time. They work beautifully together.

^ I just feel that 2003-2004 was when her voice was at its peak, so it sounded much more controlled and beautiful. 2005 was good as well, but maybe due to the songs, her voice sounded a bit harder.

I don't mind Humming 7/4 only BECAUSE of the last 30 seconds. :yes It makes up for the rest of the song being kind of annoying. :P

I personnally habe a particular link with MY STORY, because it's the first Ayu's album I listened to. It appeared (and still does) as a very cohesive album, with a lot of genres, but not just a rushed mash-up of styles. The whole visual theme is also very elegant, very personal.

OT : Zeke, your new set is so disturbing (in a good way though), I don't even read your posts, my eyes get stuck on you o_o sorry for that but you're handsome, and as ComatoseBunnySnatcher said in another post "less clothes would be better" ...

Yes it is very cohesive, and although their is a spectrum of genres covered, they flow together extremely well. Definitely not rushed and the album is one which feels "whole" or "complete".

When I first heard My Story i was so let down! It was a horrible album for me... lol. But I entered the Ayumi world at her what I think of 'height' of I am - Memorial Address and the sound and content was just so different.
I liked the singles to My Story enough, but I just didn't like the album as a whole.

But that was when it first came out... Now though, I love it. It's just amazing in almost every way. Even in the songs that I felt aren't worth while now have a special place for me!

I feel that RAINBOW and A BALLADS were the "peak" years for her vocals. But MY STORY is definitely a great album. HOPE or PAIN is the song that got me into Ayu, so there's a lot of nostalgia tied to it. I also love Liar and WONDERLAND (so creepy!). Although, CAROLS is on that album and it's one of the songs I dislike most from her.

Just listening to This Is Your Story from the Final Fantasy X soundtrack and realising that it could totally be an Ayumi interlude. Probably from the Rainbow album!

I think RAINBOW is okay, but the Vibrato of DOOM ruined a few songs so I can't exactly count it... A BALLADS is definitely where she was best at (the Haru yo Koi, TOKIO and other lives are hands down the best).

CAROLS is so... boring...y. I only (if ever) listen to it during winter because it doesn't hold up. I think they wanted to be more subtle, but it has the same problem You were... does:

FORGETTABLE.

Oh my gosh, I used to think Carols was such a drag. I never understood the people who loved it cause some people were just obsessed. I remember being totally in love with Moments and Carols just couldn't compare. But, last year I fell completely in love with the beauty in this track. It is gorgeously produced, and the melody is actually quite stunning. The way she sings this song. I always thought it was just a subtle, quiet track, but after listening more closely on headphones, I really realized how epic the chorus is in comparison to the verses... and that bridge, just so emotional! Love it!

The verses are too slow and bland, maybe that's why I just forget its existence.

It was actually one of the first few songs I heard and I use to love it, but it just doesn't compare to other beautiful winter ballads.

JEWEL is still the best piano driven one.

Lmao. I love the pre-chorus, when it goes "Yagate ikutsumo no kisetsu ga
Bokutachi no mae wo ashibaya ni toorinuketa". The melody begins to pick up, and there is a subtle hint of what's to come during the chorus.

And yes, JEWEL is totally the best piano driven ballad. It is so simple, yet extremely complex. It's one of those songs that just was born perfect as is, and it's a miracle when you think about it that way.

I used to find CAROLS boring.. okay, I found it too boring. until that Day...

Well, CAROLS played on my iPod, and my eyes got wet..
Now this song holds a special place in my :heart

It's strange though, the remix of CAROLS on the ayu-mi-x 7 trance CD is one of my favorite remixes from her LOL

I really like to listen to them at the same time in shuffle mode, it makes me strangely melancholic and nostalgic (or maybe it's just that I am melancholic and pensive lately, and that's why I'm listening to them, lol. That was a lot tamer than I expected. A lot of comments pointed out that it was a Live album and that CDs outside of AKB/Johnny's/EXILE don't sell well at all, so I'm not sure if they were really "dragging" her here :)

after seeing Ayu performing JEWEL at ABL I started to like this song. I never loved it, I haven't even watched the PV!! but now it took my heart :heart
