Misono to Retire in 2014

From Arama:

29-year-old singer misono announced on the NTV program Konya Kurabete Mimashita on Tuesday that she will be retiring from the entertainment industry next year. She said that she had planned from the start to work in the industry until she was 30. She remarked that she "wanted to be number one," but could not accomplish this in entertainment. She added that she now "wants to work at a hostess club," an area where she might be able to become "number one."

The singer performed theme songs for multiple game, anime, and live-action projects, including Tales of the Tempest, Tales of Symphonia the Animation: The United World Episode and Love*Com the Movie.
My thoughts are only what has been said many times before: LOL @ the fact that at one point she was "beating" her sister but now she's floptastic her music is boring she's fat her voice is annoying thank god there will not be another Its All Love wtf why is she gonna be a hostess she won't be number one at that either good riddance

...Okay, I like that Cinderella song. Actually, I don't dislike her, per se, I just only see her as the little sister of my favorite singer.

emi♡ 19th December 2013 03:02 AM

But she's not model petite or cute :/ how is she gonna be a hostess lol And she's almost 30.

Her tale is so sad.

I actually like It's all Love lol

visionfactory 19th December 2013 03:40 AM

She's not pretty either, and she is famous, is she gonna be a vip hostess? this girl is going nowhere

Bigtop 19th December 2013 05:45 AM

Well, she said it was time to leave, too bad she wasn't as successful as her older sister Kuu...

Any memories before she says goodbye?

YUKARI 19th December 2013 06:35 AM

what? a hostess club?!

Kouyou 19th December 2013 09:41 AM

Uh... what? A hostess? Why?

I don't understand why artists choose to say they are "retiring" other than for the publicity it might generate. Just fade away. No one cares. It's stupid to say you are retiring from something when you are only 29 years old. She could come back in the future and do something for fun... I don't know.

Surreal17 19th December 2013 10:10 AM

I don't know any of her songs but it's kind of sad actually...but to retire at 29, it's kind of weird..I remember reading somewhere about a famous japanese female singer (Momoe Yamaguchi) who retired at 21 :shakehead:shakehead..hahaha

Why is she so obsessed to be no. 1..I mean, look at KOKIA for example..she never had any no. 1 album but she is so appreciated and even had small concerts in Europe.

AyuGAME 19th December 2013 11:19 AM

I thought she already retired since a long time ago

ImpactBreaker 21st December 2013 12:44 AM

I thought she had stopped a long time ago...

I don't think it's that bad to announce you are retiring than to just fade away, mostly because if she happens to still have any fans, at least they won't be waiting for any more stuff from her. However, I do agree it's weird to announce retirement at 29yo. Sounds like a lazy bum lol

Was she ever more famous than kuu at any point though? I have my doubts. I liked her day after tomorrow songs days but they were regular JPOP, not sure if she was very famous those days because I was so hardcore into JPOP that I would listen to every single band/group/artist avex would pop up with lol The music video with the tranvestites was quite shocking and audacious for me back then though lol maybe she's gonna host that kind of club lol I think I liked day after tomorrow songs more than kuu's songs back then, but then I wasn't really into RnB, so kuu was too experimental for me, but my tastes matured as kuu got to release more and more stuff.

Aww
Goodbye misono

I believe she was a 2nd tier star for a while before Koda was big, so, she wasn't big, but at least she was selling music, while her sister wasn't...

And jpop female stars are kind of expected to retire early, aren't they? Hikki said more than once she had no intention to be a musician once she hit 30, and a lot of idols from girlgroups and even some solo singers like Rins Aiuchi retired after 10 years on the business or so... Even Ayu fans over here are always looking for reasons to point how old she is and wishing she should just retire.
:rolleyes

adantatu2 22nd December 2013 12:06 AM

I remember when she was fighting with a Morning Musume's girl. OMG it was hilarious, XD

Mr. Goto 22nd December 2013 12:55 AM

It's not like her career was a constant downward spiral she used to be a regular on three highly rated variety tv shows. She was arguably more relevant than kumi during some of the later years lol. and yeah that didn't translate into sales but she didn't need them cause she was on tv multiple times every week.

anyway this is a dumb/bizarre move. i thought things were enough of a mess when she started releasing things under the name "me" but like...:confused i can't see this hostess thing lasting long maybe 2 years max.

ExodusUK 22nd December 2013 01:38 AM

Koda Kumi will probably follow her footsteps next year.

R_Hikki 22nd December 2013 02:58 AM

The entire topic is so "wtf" to me. All I can do is laugh.

I do like "pinkies" though...

NintendoHTF1242 22nd December 2013 03:35 AM

Good for her. She was never able to make another VS, unfortunately. I love that song.

She's a mom, she no longer fills any complex.

You can't compare misono to Yamaguchi Momoe ~.~ Momoe-chan is a legendary idol. They call it "graduation" not "retirement". She was a super-star. She was in the show-business since like 13 I guess. And then she met a guy and decided to devote her life to her family and made a big graduation concert. I think it was a hot topic back then. Once she graduated she never came back nor did she make any appearances in the media. And now Japan remembers her as a young beautiful girl. I think majority of people there respect and admire her decision. She gained a legend like status.

One of my Japanese friends once said that ayu should have done the same in her peak or near post-peak time.

But yeah, I think misono just gave up on her career. Though may be she'll make a come back and be someone like Kahala Tomomi, but I'm not sure if misono was ever popular like Kahala at her best times.

UHPlus 23rd December 2013 06:12 AM

Almost all or no female singers can recover from a popularity downfall...

Retiring or not, she will just fade out and nobody will care what she's doing...

AyumiAi 24th December 2013 04:00 AM

lulzzzz i'm sure the news will have a field trip with this... jks no one cares

& + H 24th December 2013 08:11 PM

Why all the hate for misono?

Koda Kumi would be a nobody also if her record deal would've never forced her to have that sex appeal.

Yeah she looked better than misono rightttttttt

^I'm going into Kuu-stan mode. Kuu has already stated that ero-kawaii was of her own invention. And how many celebrities looked like they do now before they were famous?

YUKARI 25th December 2013 06:14 PM

^^ wow Kumi actually looked cute ;) I thought she was much worse haha

marekcarey 25th December 2013 06:39 PM

Still better than selling strawberries.

Zeke. 25th December 2013 06:45 PM

This is sad. I wanted to be number one but couldn't accomplish it. Heartbreaking.

I liked VS when it came out. Also, Faraway by day after tomorrow is still fucking bomb. The Dirt Devils remix is seriously flawless.

Good question. Nobody does. :p

And what comes to misono... Well, I kinda thought she already retired tbh. Inwas actually surprised that she was still active. :0 Sad that her career sucked so hard eventually though. I've never been a fan of her (I can't stand her voice) but I've known her for years. :)

I thought it was one of her assistants/managers that thought it up?

And it's so sad that Misono clearly has no hope of surviving in the music industry. But at least she's smart enough to recognize it now before she becomes any more of a joke.

Chibi-Chan 29th December 2013 01:12 AM

A hostess? Oh girl why? u.u Actually I really like her (even more than Kumi) and find it sad that she's retiring.
