Your Opinion about Pray

Pray is the super great song released within 1 week but we don't have any news about the release. Single ,digital single or album, having PV or not !
Let's discuss about this song ! :lech

Livey~ 31st January 2014 02:04 PM

Best song for the past year or so, imho.

waterballoon 31st January 2014 02:28 PM

just for the lyrics, I'd say it's one of her best pieces since NEXT LEVEL.

musically, it's standard Ayu with the theme song feel to it (progress, Song 4 u, Dearest). but I appreciate the arrangement very much cos it's finally not boring. also the singing was quite decent and there's nothing really much to complain about it - it's classic Ayu and it's candy to my ears.

10/10

tsumekaze_ 31st January 2014 02:50 PM

entered into my top ballads by ayu. It's so beautiful. <3
I hope it gets a physical release as a single, and maybe tie-in for CM/dorama ost.
If it gets released she could do three editions as for FIVE, with the cd, limited ed. and limited edition with the cover of Buddha2 or something for fans XD!
Don't really care about PV, it's fine for me even if she doesn't do it!

jiarongisme 31st January 2014 02:51 PM

It's just brilliant. Swell arrangements, beautiful composition, great lyrics. It's probably up there with my favorite Ayu ballads.

AyuGAME 31st January 2014 04:15 PM

Love it...Love it...

Since it's out, i just listened to this song and not get tired of it....this song can be my fav song from her, so far CAROLS still my fav Ayu's song.

i believe the PV is on its way, hopefully the PV is so AMAZING with high budget and symbolsym.

tokyoxjapanxfan 31st January 2014 04:28 PM

I agree that the song doesn't feel like a 6 min. song.

crossroad, for example, feels like a chore to listen to despite it being less than 5 min. long lol. Despite liking it, I tend to skip it a lot... I don't have that feeling for this song. :)

AYUCREA 31st January 2014 04:50 PM

one of her best songs

Zeke. 31st January 2014 05:50 PM

I was kinda hoping this thread wouldn't pop up because everyone discussed it in other areas, lol.

Just my opinion~

It's really good!!, just wish it would have some more promo of even a video to it :rolleyes

NintendoHTF1242 31st January 2014 07:00 PM

It's a very beautiful song; although I don't regard it as her best. I do love the piano near the end that sounds like the chords to HANABI. It's like a really cute self-sample.

stepYOU1234 31st January 2014 07:12 PM

Really lovely song. Too soon to say if it will become a favourite but I will certainly enjoy listening to it at the moment! I was worried because I couldn't get into the album songs from Love Again. I did like FTL single but I think I needed something like this to get back to full Ayu love. I do wonder if this had been on a single with merry go round how that would have charted. I think this will attract the general public more as this kind of song is what Ayu is known for.

anna_ayu 31st January 2014 09:20 PM

One of my favorite ballads! Itīs pretty nice! The song is beautiful.

That's exactly the part I absolutely love!
But sadly the rest is pretty boring for me, don't know, it doesn't grab me.
Won't listen to it again, just one part doesn't give much replay value.

ayu-michan 31st January 2014 10:37 PM

It's definitely a good song, her vocal was very emotional. I love Pray, but I think without actual promotions whatsoever, this song won't get anywhere except among us fans. Not that I mind that either.

Surreal17 31st January 2014 11:08 PM

A beautiful song

maururu-roa 31st January 2014 11:47 PM

Not sure if it's just me, but it really reminds me of Sakura. I like it but it's not her best. :innocent

Coelacanth 31st January 2014 11:52 PM

I'll repost my thoughts from the other thread:

Quote:

Well, it's certainly a gorgeous song. Almost too gorgeous, in the sense that it's actually somewhat boring and MOR.

My first impression is that it's in the same class as HEAVEN and Voyage. Really beautiful ballads at face value, but unabashedly overproduced, schmaltzy, and trying way too hard to capture that "timeless" essence... and well, the sentiment just ends up feeling halfhearted for me.

JEWEL, walking proud, Key, TO BE, Dearest, Together When..., November, Wishing (that's right), no more words, Who... These are just a few of her ballads that best capture that distinct pathos that only Ayu can convey, IMO.

After finishing Pray, I was left with the exact same feeling I had after listening to HEAVEN after its initial leak back in 2005. Just incredibly unmoved.

People forget that some of her most popular ballads are actually pretty subdued and "folky." SEASONS, for instance. Dearest as well. I actually find the chorus of the latter song to be discordant (always have), but it's so inexplicably moving! And so Ayu!

perfectodub 1st February 2014 12:09 AM

i think this song is in the same level of "HEAVEN" "Days" "SEASON" or any other epic ayu song
leaving behing SAKURA ,progress, beloved or any other "try-to-be-epic" song

Refix 1st February 2014 12:30 AM

It's a Okay song for me. Not that epic since Ayu's song is predictable, talk about 15'th years career. Good luck in the chart.

truehappiness 1st February 2014 12:50 AM

Just... amazing.

kimmeh 1st February 2014 01:13 AM

Lovely, but very forgettable :(

Buddha2 will be out in Japan on 8th February, hope it will boost the sale and people gonna love it more

channy 1st February 2014 02:48 AM

I like the raspy "Far away" pitch in Ayu's voice during 5:25 to 05:29. However, I wouldn't consider this song as J-Pop; it sounds eminently westernized.

Moreover, I'd still insist on having a brighter (artificially attained) pitch in Ayu's studio voice like Avex did with earlier albums. Her studio voice certainly got closer to her real voice the last couple of years, but frankly, I liked her shrill, sharp sounding vocals better. That's why I have something for "LOVE again". Songs like "SAKURA", "Ivy", "petal" and "Gloria" fortunately had a bunch of ear-nourishing high-pitches, especially "SAKURA".

I wonder if we are meant to end up with a studio album containing "Tell All", "Feel the love / Merry-go-round", "Pray" and of course seven to eight additional songs. Would be a weird mixture.

Kazeyomi 1st February 2014 04:03 AM

I think it's one of her best Ayuish ballads.
The arrangement it's gorgeous, her voice is good and lyrics are great.

She had better ballads, I mean less predictables, but still is far from being totally generic like Days, meaning of Love and beloved, for instance. Also, it sounds like a leftover from LOVE again, but I wish most of LOVE again songs were good as Pray.

Daeklei 1st February 2014 04:12 AM

Love it! And in certain parts of the song there are these EH sounds (Not like bad but as in that's the sound ) that totally sound like a earlier voice era.

280301 1st February 2014 05:00 AM

The arrangement is amazing. 0.0

Coelacanth 1st February 2014 06:14 AM

I hope Pray isn't a single. I'd rather her cut straight to the album.

I enjoyed LOVE again, but a more upbeat album would be a blessing. Hope she expands on the EDM sound in Feel the love/Merry-go-round and the industrial sound in NaNaNa/Shake It.

She's also overdue for a downtempo ballad similar to HAPPY ENDING.

AyumiAi 1st February 2014 06:20 AM

its so perfect i can't get enogh of it!

adantatu2 1st February 2014 07:13 AM

The verses are good, but the chorus is weak and the song is long, sorry but i don't like it at all

erika_ayu 1st February 2014 08:20 AM

I like everything about the song, except that drum beat or is it even drums. I'm naot sure, but it sounds cheap for this type of movie, I wish they upgraded that part then it would be a song that's a lot more powerful.

Not trying to be mean, I still love Ayu, I blamed the composer. X(

MTE. except i think the song is lovelly, but i'm not gonna have it on repeat. I've listened to it maybe 4 times?... don't feel like doing it a lot.

George 1st February 2014 11:42 AM

It's a gorgeous song... but I don't know, it really doesn't grab me. To be fair, I really haven't enjoyed all of her most recent stuff (post-Love songs). I won't actively try to listen to it but I won't skip it if it plays whilst I'm on shuffle.

freedreamer 1st February 2014 02:12 PM

LOVE IT A LOT!!! I was waiting for a powerful and emotional track from her for so long. Ok, since SAKURA haha

tsumekaze_ 1st February 2014 02:59 PM

^ me too!
Already talked lots about this in other threads but I'll say this one again.
Epic song, one of my all time favourites. Lyrics are heartbreaking. Arrangement is beautiful. Plus her voice which cracks a bit in the right points...epic ballad. The ballad for definition.

It's funny how many people can have so many different opinions about this song! It's interesting, and that's probably what music is all about, different subjective perceptions!

marty 1st February 2014 05:10 PM

The more I listen to it, the more moving and epic it seems!
It's so very emotional and pretty, I love it very much!! I have to wait to have a final opinion on it, but I strongly suspect those violins will win me over very, VERY SOON. Lol.
It's really a song that grows on you the more you listen to it! And Ayu's way of singing it... ALL OF THE EMOTIONS.

khan5 1st February 2014 07:11 PM

i find the lyrics amazing and ayus vocals dont bother me at all, but the compositions/the instrumental sounds too rushed within the song. I have noticed since love again there something going on with the instrumentals sometimes they are way to rushed or have no proper transition between the verses and the chorus. Overall the song is good, but i find the song is a bit too stretched out.

Minttulatte 4th February 2014 12:43 PM

Sadly, I wasn't too impressed with this song. It has awesome lyrics, but otherwise it sounded like a leftover from LOVE again. However, I hope that this song will eventually grow on me more. :)

tinka69 4th February 2014 02:03 PM

Considering the last two songs she released, I had very, very...very low expectations for this release. But I'm surprised. I actually really like it :D

marty 4th February 2014 09:00 PM

It just strucked me how this song reminds me of untitled for her... story 2. Especially in the chorus. Well, it's not a bad thing at all, even if untitled for her... story 2 is masterpiece that can't be beaten imo.

Sky High 18th July 2018 02:03 PM

I love that song.

KittyKathy 19th July 2018 11:25 AM

My second favorite song from Colours. Great song!

Deep snow 19th July 2018 11:52 AM

I think Pray is one of her best recent ballads and I still find it staggering that it didn't get a decent video clip and treatment as a proper single. honestly still sad thinking that she favoured the more terrible experimental songs to promote during this era :(
