[AAA] Gold Symphony - The 5th Triple A Thread

Who? AAA aka Triple A (トリプルエー). Fans call them Tori E. AAA originally stands for Attack All Around. They are a seven member J-Pop Group under the avex trax label with male and female members. Started in 2005 they celebrated their 8th anniversary in September 2013 and they are one of the few groups who managed to increase their sales over the last years. They tour every year and until recently performed in smaller venues around Japan, but their first Arena Tour ever called Gold Symphony was just announced for 2014. If they follow their usual pattern, their next album will also be called Gold Symphony and probably will be released in the middle to later months of this year. Did two collaborations in 2010 & 2011 with the woman who this forum is dedicated to. Also released a solo album TURN OVER in 2009. Occasionally holds solo gigs. Naoya is a funny guy and friends with almost every japanese person. :D He also released collaborations with May J and Mao Denda. Nishi is not only the voice of AAA, he is also a well-known actor. You can see him in stage plays, dramas and movies. Known to the western audiences because of his awesome acting in a movie called Ai no Mukidashi (Love Exposure). Nishi loves One Piece and is bad with computers. That's why the only time you hear from Nishi is when he hijacks the other members twitter accounts or posts at AAA's official blog. Nishi is known for his perverted antics and Ayu called him "funny" when she visited AAA in one of her tweets. Mitsuhiro is a ladies man who mainly raps on AAA tracks. But his voice is also suited for singing. He often joins the harmonies. While AAA's tracks are mostly written by other people, you can be sure that Mitsu writes his own rap lyrics. He is also a solo artist and often collaborates with other artists. His solo album TRICKSTER was released in 2014. Has a deep voice and also acts in dramas and movies. Loves the english language and often practices it on twitter with his fans. Has his own photobook Shinking which had been shot by famous photographer Mika Ninagawa. Models and was also pictured in an exhibition by Leslie Kee. Other than that he is very shy and not really outspoken. The best dancer in the band has an amazing voice, which is getting more recognition by the minute. Although he is pretty small, (just 167 cm) his cute boyish looks are getting his fans into a frenzy. If you don't like it, you probably won't like AAA because Misako is the female lead. Originally Uno-chan was to be the only female member. Misako is an actress who acts in stage plays, movies and dramas. She is also a model and released two photobooks, the latest being UNO-BON. She released her first photobook Chercher this year. Her fans love her style and she is often seen in fashion magazines, and was cover girl for the Nails magazine NAIL MAX. Chiaki loves her dog Kiki and will release her very own stylebook soon. She has her own blog which she updates almost daily. twitter account Chiaki Itou's blog But what about the music? Well? It's not that simple. Because AAA tracks are basically j-pop, but they vary so much. AAA are produced by Masato max Matsuura. Their genre variety is legendary - their music is electronic, dance, eurobeat, techno, club, pop, rock, or even jazz. Their album Buzz Communication (2011) was arranged by Tetsuya Komuro, who is also friends with the members. If you're interested and don't know where to start, they released a best of album in 2011 #AAABest which should give you an overview. Especially on album tracks AAA sometimes split up in smaller groups. Often the female members have their own song, as do the male members. I started my love with them back at 2005-06 with Friday Party :heart I just forgot them a little around HEARTFUL singles (their worst album in my opinion) and got back on tracks when they released Buzz Communication (one of their best albums) :love

Imho, they all look good. And they can sing! :heart HEARTFUL is my favourite album, but I also love Buzz Communication. And 777. I was a little disappointed in Eighth Wonder because almost nothing new on there. Probably because I got really interested in them around that time, I still like HEARTFUL the best, and Heart to Heart Tour was awesome! I adore Still love you and Party it up, so I hope that SHOWTIME will be like those two tracks. The Covers and the release date make me believe so. ;)

To tell you the truth what I don't like about Eighth Wonder are those album tracks, it only has five new songs and just two of them are quite good (Memory Lane and Believe)..

Yes, Eighth Wonder Singles are all amazing. It was just so meh, when you get an album where you know most of the songs already. They are kind of stuck inside this weird pattern now where they release singles, announce a tour name and then when the tour is over they release an album which is called after the tour. And they already performed the album tracks on tour by then. It's a bit frustrating for the foreign fan or when you don't have the chance to go to a concert.

Actually it's not only One Piece, because we also had amounts like that sold by early singles.

I don't really know with the japanese people. I don't understand their taste. Especially for AAA. Some singles that I consider far superior sell ok, others that are average sell good. I think if this single sells better than their average singles in the end, One Piece might be why. Wake up! is a very anime-ish song, after all.

Japanese audience is just like every audience in every country. What sells good is generic stuff that people are used to. In USA we have those generic pop singers, in Brazil we have those duo country groups, in UK we have eletronic and alternative rock bands, and in Japan we have idols with those generic japanese pop songs. Wake up! is a generic j-pop song that's why it's selling this good, the One Piece tie-in helped of course, but AAA is popular enough to hold a first day sales of 20k copies with a single.

Like I said before, the One Piece track, "Wake Up!", was released digitally in January. Those who were interested on that song bought back then, six months ago, and aren't buying it again now. By the way, Wake Up! made a huge sucess digitally in January, it reached #1 on its debut week at Recochoku. They're focusing on Kaze ni Kaoru Natsu no Kioku for this physical release.

The 42nd single will be released on 9/17 and is called Sayonara no mae ni (さよならの前に) The title seems balladish to me, but you'll never know. The new album will be out in October and is called - surprise, surprise - GOLD SYMPHONY. Don't pretend I didn't warn you! ;) It seems there'll be 4 new songs only - I hate this release pattern.

I used to be obbssed with AAA but the ylost some of their touch throughout the years. I'm happy for them that the song formula they found is clicking with their fanbase, but their early stuff was much more inovative und fresh.
