[2003] Do you like Nelly Furtado?
 

Does anyone like her in this forum? She's not incredibly popular, but her music is so great. Her new album, Folklore, is excellent and you can get it for around $8 at Wal-Mart. Her debut album, Whoa Nelly! was awesome as well.

I recommend the video and song for ...On The Radio (Remember The Days) and Turn off the Light. Her new single powerless is also good!

um.. I never liked her much.
And I've only heard one of her songs, then she just vaporized off the face of the earth after that as far as I'm concerned.

She's okay...i haven't heard many of her songs but i really like her song 'Powerless':D

The only song which I think is still OK, is Like a Bird. I don't really like any of her other songs, but I'm already getting tired of LaB. :think

I think Nelly Furtado is perhaps one of the most talented and inventive artists in the mainstream right now. I have adored her ever since I bought "Whoa Nelly" back in 2003 when I heard "Turn Off the Light" and fell in love with her music. I originally thought she sold herself out with "Loose", but after buying the album, it's obvious that she's still retained some of what I loved from her, and I grew to love her entirely new stuff as well ("Promiscuous" definitely took the longest to grow on me).

She's stated in interviews that she hung out with all hip-hop kids when she was younger and knew she would return to that style eventually; Loose is that. I like all three of her albums. Her dancing is horrible though. I wish someone would sit her in front of an Amuro concert for inspiration.

She writes/co-produces all her songs, which is still better than most pop singers out there.

I'm glad you feel the same way. I felt like she sold out at first, but after listening to the album FULLY I realized that she really hadn't and that much of the album is still her musical roots, but hip-hop/etc. is what she's wanted to do for awhile, it just happens to be in right now. The fact that she writes her music is huge and something rarely seen from many mainstream pop acts. It should be respected and not tossed aside like she has "no talent".

The fact that she writes and produces music, successful music, is enough for me to respect her.

Some of her works are pretty original, even if it's in this huge hip-hop/RnB wave.

Well, the fact that she writes and produces her own songs, defiinitely don't make me respect her as an artist if the music is bad. I respect her as a person and that's it.

Her music is bad, her voice is bad and she's a sellout.

I liked her second album, the rest was really, really bad, especially the Loose album was just oure crap, well, Timbaland as producer says enough, doesnt it?

I think she has a few good songs...the ones that were way overplayed obviously...as songs always are here in the US.

I wish she had better song writing capability though, so she could come up with a better sound.
well they aren't really what a sell out is. I mean, technically, Ayu was a sell out from the beginning...as are a ton of other artists...

so saying that they are kind of loses sight of the word.

does being popular and hit make her album good? I hate it because it doesnt sound like her anymore, it sounds like timbaland, not like nelly, she tried to be popular again, she managed to be popular again, but to me it seemed like she gave up her style in order to do so + I hate R'n'B

I love the new song :) It sounds great! I like how she's doing a lot of Spanish songs lately. I wonder why not more Portuguese though?

I thought I heard somewhere that she would be recording a Portuguese album too.
