Wow that was impressive!
The single debuted on #1 place at Recochoku Weekly Digital Albums (they count singles as albums when all the songs numbers get combined) and the song Zutto debuted on the #9 position at Recochoku Weekly Singles. Well done girl!

We will have a tv performance this week, i think it will up the sales

I also believe that the only version counted is the CD only without the music cards as they are not even mentioned on the oricon website.

Imagine how higher it would sell with a CD+DVD version. It could outsell Colours :P
And the songs did it without any tie-ins at all!

The main selling point is the music itself this time.

Also A BEST went up to #3 daily on the recocohku albums chart.

I thought fanclub edition is sold through mu-mo.

Anyways, I wasn't surprised that Ayu isn't #1 (yeah, Kis-My-Ft2 has it with an overwhelming 238,024 copies! Avex, why are you putting Kisumai over Ayu for #1???), but the fact that the single sales was higher than the last one, that's a small win.

Do I have to re-iterate again, though (I've said this before), about how digital sales affect physical sales??? Don't forget that this single doesn't have a DVD with PVs (only one we can think of is for the lead song "Zutto..."), unlike Kisumai's (with an overwhelming 11 different editions, compared to roughly two for Ayu, including the fanclub edition)...

No offense here, but the song length for "Thank you Jan!" (Kisumai) and "Zutto..." (ayu) is pretty close and competitive - 4:48 area... Although Kisumai and Ayu are different matter in any shape perform...

Oh, interesting. Let's see if it stays in the top 10. :)

Can't believe it, this single drops so fast

Why do you guys always place ayu's "bad decision" under avex? At this point in her career I'm completely sure that avec wouldn't come up and say "Hey we want a single on Xmas eve, but no TV live and no DVD for the single". And maybe even some years ago when she had that #1 singles streak, they surely wouldn't give her orders without a discussion, specially after A BEST saved avex... Probably ayu herself wanted to release this as a Xmas gift, and as she wouldn't have much time to shoot PVs cause of her CDL, they came up only with the CD version. Of course, I can't tell this for sure, but the idea of avex still controlling her like this is ridiculous to me :P

In reference to the first-day sales, she was second to Kis-My-Ft2's new single, right? I find it amazing that their single, also released on the same day as ayu's, sold 200k+ just in one day. Like, holy shit how famous are these guys? :O

The drop is scary but single #3 today sold 19,800. Not that bad. Let's wait and see the final week (or 2 weeks since it's Christmas).

Anyways, the single is lovely and the PV is more than decent. That's the important thing: MUSIC.

Frankly I think sales would have been higher should Zutto.../Last minute/Walk had a CD + DVD edition :O

Anyway why Kisumai's new single was able to sell 238,024 on the 1st day (let alone outsold the 1st week sales of their previous single)

They had 11 editions put out in total :laugh + it's quite astounding that by tomorrow , it will unofficially become their best 1st week sales for a single

I'm a Kisumai fan & I knew upfront that their new single was going to get #1 but didn't expect it would sold so much on the 1st day

Lol trust me if they give you freedom on most things...it doesn't mean you have it on everything. She may be a big game in their company but that doesn't mean they won't state their opinions on what she should do and what not. They probably had a thing or two to add to the decision temselves as well.
I mean even GACKT once said that he wanted to change his hair color but his company didn't exactly wanted that so he had to keep it for longer. And this dude isn't someone you can just push around. And he is one of the better selling male artists today in Japan. His stuff always hits Top 10. And someone just doesn't let him change the hair color. I mean....really...

I think it's just pure luck with the numbers and the timing. Change of genertions affect a lot of things.

Hmm... I still felt there is a lack in promotions (apart from the billboard)...? Do we have a 15s or 30s CM about this single...? And I think also due to the fact that ayu didn't do any LIVE... So for this single having such a result, I think is probably quite good already...

Lives aren't really promo that biring sales, at least not on recent years.

Promos that bring sales are great tie-ins like CMs, endorsements, popular dramas etc.
Can't think of anything else that would help nowadays.

Dropping to #8 isn't so bad if the releases above are selling consistently and barely drop.
ayu's single really sold relatively high for the first day, for solo female standarts.
Except for namie who would sell the same or above with a single and only a CD version.

I think ayu is actually doing really good this time. She just got weekly no. 1 on recochoku album chart, and is no. 2 on daily today (new digitals just released). I think this time the single is quite accepted by the general public.

Nowadays you have to look at digital charts as well. Physical sales may not tell 100% how popular the songs are.

I just can't understand why they started counting the sales even before the official release date. The figures "should've been" higher if the started it on 24th. Even so, Kiss My whatever will always rank on top considering the fangirl population here in Japan recently. lol

i'm glad that the single is doinh well digital-wise. The single deserves the recognition. Its the single that I enjoy whole heartedly after quite a long time.

AGREED! :yes Especially with the change of generations! Everyone gets older, but the younger ones, probably the majority of music buyers in Japan, are the key to sales, and they're preferring the idol image of AKB48 or Johnny's today instead of the traditional soloists of "yesterday"...

Tuesday was a holiday, Emperor Akihito's birthday. Don't know if that's going to affect the numbers significantly.

It is safe to say that she has around 20k fans left in Japan

With an #2 on the first day & then an #8 on the second, I'd say that this single is doing extremely well, so far! :D Which I am very happy about, because I absolutely love all three songs! :heart I think as long as the single continues to chart within the top 10 on Oricon, it'll be just fine. :) Go ayu!

Great first day! The big drop is a bit sad, but I feel the week sales will be quite decent, so I'm happy. The position doesn't matter, it's not like we didn't know Kis-My-Ft2 would get #1...

I agree, at this point I think Ayu is the one who decided she wanted her single to be released on christmas and the amount of promotion she's going to do (though of course the billboards and CMs are on Avex). And I don't even know if it's a "bad decision", I don't think she cares about what position she is in, she just wanted to give her fans a single on christmas, I think that's great.
tbh, I don't think she would have gotten #1 if it was released on a different week anyway. If you look at the artists who topped all previous weeks, it was always idols that she probably wouldn't be able to beat, so it makes no difference (sure, if it was last week she would have guaranteed at least #3 with just her first day sales, but not #1).

She's doing really well on digital rankings, though :)

Somewhat impressed. She's reasonably competing against Namie's single performances right now, which is good considering Ayu still isn't throwing around the same weight as Namie has these last few years.

I seldom see the sales of their single increase a lot during the weekend & they didn't performed their latest single last night at MSSL either

Just so you know , the 4th day of their sales was 18,286 & on the 5th , it increased to 2.5 times of the amount (which was 46,313)

Today Last minute went up to #13 on full song on Recochoku! Seems like japan loved the song in Music station :)

Last minute has that classic Ayu vibe all over it. Of course Japan loves it because that's the Ayu they remember and loved the most. :)

you need to work extra hard to be #1 right now.

#1 isn't important nowadays ... Almost the idol groups (Kissumai , AKB48 Present,...) always release the single/album with many editions (each type has different cover or something's like that) and each of their fans usually buy more than one edition... However, Oricon doesn't count the online-sell products , at venue,...

I just believe that the chart for Ayu is depend on everyone who cares and waits for her releases ...#1 is our liking, and dropping by our negative comments

Don't fool yourself they CAN'T sing without lipsynch, unlike ayu, she DO CAN sing without lipsynch, she gets out of breath in evolution but she can sing every other song almost right

^Agree :yes I don't want to offend anyone, but that band is so annoying to my ears and eyes. And I think Ayu has a great voice, really, she sings for about 2 hours at her concerts without playback and still sounds awesome at the end. And in my opinion, if she wouldn't try to sound "cutesy" and "girly" to the japanese public sometimes her voice would sounds a lot better.
Regarding sales, I can't wait to know the full week sales for this single but I guess they'll be quite good (for 2014 standards).

To be fair, it won't be officially released till next month, with a video in February (thanks to the leaks).

Come on people! Ayu is selling this single like fresh cupcakes for a solo singer, considering it does not have any tie in like brighter day of namie with her first day sale number 5 on Oricon ( You all know how popular she is, but still having number 5) Charts is not like it use to be in Japan anymore! Deal with it!

^^ True. We all know Namie is the one female solo that has exceptional album sales now a days, and even her single sales aren't much better than this. It's too much to expect Ayu to have those amazing sales she used to when no female solo artist is able to do so now a days, it's not just her who suffered this drop (and her sales drop isn't nearly as bad as many other female solos, it's kinda depressing how things are going)...

I think more and more the digital sales are having a much more important role, the general public doesn't buy many CDs anymore, specially singles, they download most of it, and on the digital rankings Ayu's single doing amazingly ;)

That sucks, I love the extra content Japanese singles tend to have. (Then again, I love instrumentals lol).

Ayu is the first solo-artist to send 50 singles into the top 10 with this one (entering the chart @ #5?). Technically it's her 52nd top 10 entry but I don't think they include Dream ON or a song is born because they're collaborations.

^ Sadly it didn't outsell Feel the love/Merry-go-round's first week... but still a great achievement to be in top 5, despite of the huge competition!! :)
