-Songs that make you cry-

Are there any songs that make you cry or at least feel like it? I find that these kinds of songs are scarce for me as I am not that easily moved to tears by anything. As someone who holds a record of never crying in a movie, I find myself very impressed with things that get me extremely close to tears.

I'm very curious to know what people will list. :D BY THE WAY, sorry if there's been a thread like this!!!

My list:

Lana Del Rey- Ride

Ayumi Hamasaki- A Song for XX, For My Dear..., and maybe a few others

Girugamesh- Kowarete Iku Sekai

Kokia- Omoi (or Womoi), this song nearly brought me to tears because it was so pretty...a very rare thing for me to experience. XD There's also her song "届きますように" (or "Todokimasu Yō ni") which had the same effect on me.

The GazettE- Without a Trace

And last but not least, Mad World by Gary Jules... Seriously, that song is like...depression city.

I find that songs that move me in this way have this effect* on me because I can hear the sincerity in the singer's words or voice. Such as A Song for XX and Ride, they seem like they are some of the truest stories these singers could express.

Blue Tofu - Gabriel
The Kills - Black Balloon
The xx - Fantasy

For more than one year I just couldn't listen to any of those songs. I still like all of them though, they remind me of a very special time in my life and how much I miss those days-- even though I'm living better days now.

Enchanted by Taylor Swift
Don't leave me by Abe Mao

Those songs are the story of my life

I thought of a few others:

Cyndi Lauper's "Time after Time" and Stevie Nick's "Landslide."

And Ayu's song "ever free."

I was going to make a topic on this actually, never got around to it. So thanks!

Spoiler:

I know the reaction towards Katy Perry can either be extremely positive or extremely negative (no in-between), but this song really impacted me at an important time in my life. Won't go into great detail since it's personal, but just an absolutely beautiful song. I have trouble listening to it from time to time but that won't stop me from listening to it lol.

Pray and HANABI by Ayumi Hamasaki fuck me up too. As well as infection by Chihiro Onitsuka.

hayasaki 20th July 2015 11:20 AM

This. :(

the song is called "Akai Suitei" or Red Sea Bottom by Teshima Aoi.

Probably I've already cried to ayu's A Song for xx, and also Kuu's walk. But beyond this there are not many songs that me cry - which is weird cause I'm a total Cancer guy, and I cry even at video games ending scenes and tons of books. But I remember crying when listening to Kodaline's The One, I can relate to that lyrics SO MUCH. And there's also one which doesn't sound that sad properly, but the lyrics got me: Shots by Imagine Dragons. Especially the chorus "I'm sorry for everything, oh everything I've done. From the second that I was born it seems I had a loaded gun and then I shot shot shot shot a hole through everything I love". I felt like this many times already, mainly in the last two years, and when this song came out I couldn't help but crying non-stop. (tbh I can relate to many ID songs, I guess their depressive lyrics combined with not-that-sad-and-interesting instrumentals is what gets me)

If the song (sound) only then I never shed a tear, but if it's a PV or generally had a vision of the song that represent it then I have.

DAI - Yesterday and today
Ayumi Hamasaki - Ballad
Kodaline - All I want
The Killers - Here with me
Maroon 5 - Sugar (watched those married couple brought some joyful tears)
Adele - Don't you remember
Jimmy eat world - invented
Jamie Cullum - Grand Torino
Mika Nakashima - 16

And many others, can't remember.

tsumekaze_ 20th July 2015 01:59 PM

I cried to ayu's a song for xx so many times I lost the count.
Also out of control lately makes me tear up. Then I guess missunderstood, like a doll and how beautiful you are.

As for non-ayu related songs...
U2 - sometimes you can't make it on your own / All I want is you
Utada - TOKYO nights, sakura nagashi
Rurutia - Serios / Pluie
Keane - Everybody's changing / Somewhere only we know

So many songs. From ayu. Utada. All kinds of artists across languages. It really just depends on my mood sometimes. Sometimes they catch me at the worst time. And then songs like ayu's A song is born will almost always make me cry.

The last time I cried was listening to Kendrick Lamar's most recent album, To Pimp a Butterfly. Shit is all fire.

I cried while listening to the songs Alright and Mortal Man. It really hurt.

I love when hip hop can get me in my feelings and contemplate life. I always hate when people dismiss it as not real music.

I may go through more later, it would be interesting to be able to list and see what songs make me cry.

I think the only song that has ever made my cry was Melodies of Life from FF9. It was so bittersweet.

Pieces_of_SEVEN 21st July 2015 05:45 AM

Many, many ayu songs depending on how I am feeling! She does such an extraordinary job of putting emotion into her songs. The ones that come to my mind first are HANABI, HANABI ~episode II~, A Song for XX, Who..., still alone, RAINBOW, Memorial address, HAPPY ENDING, fairyland, JEWEL, MY ALL, untitled ~for her, untitled for her... story 2, BRILLANTE, and Anything for You.

I totally agree that Sakura Nagashi was a bit of a tear-jerker, if not for how pretty it was. And I just love that someone referenced NSYNC XD

I decided to post Ride by Lana Del Rey, but like the short movie version of her music video. When I watched it, it was the 1st time for me to listen to the song and I was so moved.

btw, I am still trying to learn how to embed videos so I probably messed up. XP

oaristos 21st July 2015 08:24 PM

I remembered about some other songs:

Other Lives - Black Tables
The Seatbelts - Blue
Ayumi Hamasaki - ever free

Ayumi Hamasaki - untitled ~for her~
Cry every time I listen to it. When I think about the meaning and the lyrics...

Gustavopc 22nd July 2015 05:40 PM

Oh my, how could I forget? Almost all of Anberlin's final album, lowborn, made me cry also. Especially Armageddon, Atonement and Harbinger.

I always associate their song Impossible with this guy who I still somewhat struggle with NY feelings for. It always reminds me of the days when things first became a bit rough between us years ago I guess. He liked the song too.

It really is a great song. But it makes me really emotional and so I cry listening to it sometimes.

DonkeyKongRemix 22nd July 2015 07:49 PM

I'm actually gonna clarify that I have never really "cried" while listening to anything, now that I think about it. I've gotten kind of teary eyed and extremely moved, but never have actual tears ran down my cheek. I think I'm incapable of crying to music or movies.

However, Ayu's performance of A Song is Born after the tsunami made my eyes fill with tears. I could barely keep myself from crying while watching that performance.
