Well, that was unexpected. If she does SEASONS or something again though, it may be a bad idea. I get why but when she does older songs, all it tends to do is illustrate how different her vocals are from when she used to do those songs.

This TV live is surely a part of the long term promotion strategy for her 20th Anniversary that her team started with the CDL. So it'll be classic songs to remind non fans about that.

Ayu is suffering from the same dilemma that many veteran popular artists have to deal with.
Most people want to hear her most famous songs from her peak years ago. Only dedicated fans will want to hear specific singles from different eras and hidden gems/under performed material. I see it all the time here. An artist will play a handful of songs and everyone gets excited for the older big hits and then when they get to the newer songs no one cares anymore. Some people even complain when they play less mainstream songs!:no So if Ayu performs new songs, there won't be a lot of hype or interest in her appearance on TV. If she performs older songs from her peak popularity, it will draw in more viewers and hype and makes her appearance more relevant to the public. She can't win either way. She most likely is doing Music Station to support her 20th anniversary era/activities. So it would be wonderful if she would perform songs from a variety of years.:) |
Hoping for something like her performance of "Life" in 2011: just her and the band, an unexpected song, no dancers, very raw and natural. <3

I also find it weird that she's stuck with the same 3-4 songs for years now.
Granted in terms of impact, M, SEASONS etc. have far more of a cultural impact, but like...doing other number 1 songs could provide a "natsukashii!" moment. Honestly I don't think her current staples do that so much. She performs them so constantly that they're never going to be nostalgic lol. Dearest, Voyage, No way to say, Moments, End roll would be great choices. TV wise they're rarely performed now. And quite honestly she needs to ditch her dancers on TV. It's become a circus lol. |

An older song would nice but it won't be nolstagic because ayu can't vocally deliver those older songs anymore :/. Together when would be perfect for her current voice and nostalgia.

Just did a list with all of ayu's appearances at Music Station. She's been there 88 times since her debut!! The only year she missed was 2012.

I miss those days when we had weekly Tv performances, I loved the hype for the outfit and hairstyle. I'd love to see a book collecting all her iconic outfits.

I feel she's more like going to sing You, since for me it's her most Sprimg-esque song followed by Hello New Me. And probably since the theme is more about debut etc too.

She does a pretty good job with To be, I am more worried about ourselves, it has some difficult moments. Still - that's a great thing that we/tv audience gets to hear her with sth else than Seasons.
