[Bonus Track] FREER (Co-Produced by Masahiro Tobinai) FREER is the tie-in song for the new Galaxy Note 8 CM: https://www.instagram.com/p/BatSYBPA_F3/ PV for FLY And today he also released the PV for Sora feat. SALU One of my favourite songs and also completely in English is ZEN: His English is good altogether. But afaik this is his only song in English, he prefers to write profound lyrics in Japanese. |
I'm surprised to see that someone made a thread for him! Sora sounds really good! And I didn't know that he's going to release an album.
|
Well, why not? I follow him pretty much since his major debut last year and apart from me and now you I know at least two other people here listening to him.
And I hope there are a lot more people checking him out now as well! :D Sora is No. 1 on the R&B charts on iTunes. He's happy. :laugh |
I LOVE him. I love everything he put out. I'm rooting for him!
edit: I just listened to SORA and finally he released something I'm not too excited about lmao. I'll still support his album! the cover is really cool. |
What's a good idea to open a thread for him. Thanks Corvina.
I hoop that BLUE'll have edgier songs. FLY and Sora are good but nothing outstanding. |
Thanks for making the thread!
I'm really looking forward to BLUE. I loved all the songs on the PLAY mini-album, I like Sora (though it's not the most memorable song so far), and FREER sounds promising. He seems to be on a good roll, I hope he stays on that track. |
You're welcome, guys!
Quote:
It's definitely better than 24 for me, where I liked about half of the songs. From the new ones, I like Sora and the preview of FREER. Not so keen on FLY. But I have quite high hopes for the full album, hope this won't turn out as a problem later, haha. |
I think the album will definitely have stellar tracks. it seems to be the pattern for him, since the beginning of his soundcloud account he's all about quality. :yes
|
Quote:
I hope we'll get some previews for the album (even though the release date isn't even that far away at this point)! |
A new collabo song!
Guerilla - Akko Gorilla x Taichi Mukai from her second EP being released this week. This is quite a different side of him! :D |
Album is almost there!
Today the official PV for FREER was released. EDIT: Album is out now, e.g. on MIUSIQ. And it is album of the week on Spotifiy Japan! |
It's also up on iTunes and Spotify worldwide! :)
I've listened to the whole album a few times already. It's so good!! I really like almost all of the songs, only a few I don't care for as much (Nemuranai Machi, Kimi ni Kiss shite). Rakuen, Lost & Found, Great Yard, BLUE, and ONE are all huge highlights. I honestly wasn't expecting to like the album this much, but so far, seems like it's one of my favourite albums this year! |
I guess we think pretty much the same about the album and our favourite songs (again). :laugh
It is a nice album! The first half of it (till Sora feat. Salu) is really strong, the second half is weaker. I don't like Nemuranai Machi, Conditional and Kimi ni Kiss shite. I love Rakuen, it's my favourite! But I also like Lost & Found, Great Yeard, Blue, One and FREER. The album is currently on #13 on iTunes Japan and #52 on iTunes Thailand. |
We really do think alike; I was also about to say in my previous post that I found the first half of the album (up until Sora) stronger, but then scrapped that part because I was getting too wordy. :laugh But yeah, the second half is not quite as good.
My favourite song is definitely BLUE, I've been listening to it over and over again. It's so catchy and the melody is lovely, it sounds sweet and fresh, it's got all the emotional punch of a good ballad with zero sap... Nice to hear how the album is charting! I hope it does well. |
Sorry to bump the thread with no news, but I just wanted to share something: yesterday, I got a bunch of CDs from my friend who'd gone on a trip to Japan and done some shopping for me, and one of those CDs was BLUE! :) And something that hasn't been said about the album yet: the packaging and product design for this release is gorgeous! It doesn't come in a standard jewel case but a cardboard case that looks and feels very nice! The best part of the physical release is the booklet - which isn't actually a booklet! Instead of a booklet, the case houses 12 cardboard slips with gorgeous gorgeous pictures on one side of each, and extensive liner notes (seven cards worth of them) and lyrics and production info on the other side! Many of the pictures also have English sentences scribbled over them, most of them are easy to read but occasionally the handwriting makes you work a little. :laugh I'm not sure if my description does the actual product justice (probably not), but I want to emphasize that this album is a gorgeous physical product! For anyone who likes collecting CDs, I'd say this one is extra-worthy of your money because it really looks like it's been produced with care and effort. It became one of my favorite items in my CD collection right away because it's both gorgeous and special.
Oh, and I'll gladly share pictures if anyone is interested. :) |
^ I'm very interested in seeing the packaging! I had a friend on another forum that bought it and said it's beautiful but I didn't get to see any pictures. I would appreciate if you share them with us!
I've been enjoying BLUE so much more now, I like basically all of the tracks. sadly, the collabs he's being featured recently aren't my thing. :( |
^ I took pictures, they should be viewable here but let me know if there's an issue. :) I hope the pictures look decent, I know I wasn't working with the best lighting and equipment but some really assaulted my eyes while I was uploading and rotating them, I felt like I could see every single fiber on the cardboard.
I've also continued to enjoy BLUE, it's such a good album and hasn't gotten old at all. And I haven't really liked his newer collaborations either, I hope he goes back to doing his own thing soon. |
Well, he posted he finished recording today on his Instagram. :)

New digital releases announced!
Love EP (limited) Release date: 2018.06.27 https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/6...924/AfRXe9.png 1. Siren(Produced by tofubeats) 2. MALIBU(Co-Produced by CELSIOR COUPE) 3. HERO (Co-Produced by CELSIOR COUPE) 4. FURUSATO (Co-Produced by grooveman Spot) 5. cuz of you (Co-Produced by CELSIOR COUPE) 6. Blue – Acoustic Session with Kosuga Tsuyoshi(cro-magnon) ※iTunes Only Siren single Release date: 2018.05.30 https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/6...922/ssWe61.jpg Produced by tofubeats, retro sound. So happy about new stuff and even more happy, that most of this stuff is co-produced by CELSIOR COUPE - lots of my favourite songs are done by him! |
This EP must be good as it's released on my birthday. Don't disappoint me Taichi. :D

Siren was released and it's amazing! I love it.
|
Siren PV:
|
What did everyone think of LOVE? :) I think the EP was pretty good, but not outstanding. Siren, MALIBU and HERO were all nice; HERO stood out positively with its production, but also in an unfortunate way with the final hook reminding me of Namie Amuro's Hero a bit too much. :laugh FURUSATO was my favourite, its lush R'n'B sound was really nice and the song was just really good in general. cuz of you was forgettable, I didn't even register that the song was happening before it was over. Still haven't listened to the acoustic version of Blue.
|
^ FURUSATO is my favorite as well! I don't like HERO that much. MALIBU is also very nice!
|
The new EP doesn't leave a lasting impression sadly.
I really like FURUSATO, such sweet lyrics, though you could also say pretty kitschy. :laugh HERO is nice as well, but that's it for me. |
Just now discovering him! I'm going through his first album right now, since I listened to Signal and really liked it so I figured I may as well start from the beginning, but I'm really loving his style/sound so far! :D
|
I'm quite disappointed. Not because his album is bad but because I don't hear in it what made me interested in him. The album is too mainstream (except maybe cuz of you which is more experimental but the kind of experimental sound he already provided in other ballads) to please me wholly. Siren and Furusato are too repetitive for me. Malibu and Hero are better.
Funny during the five first second of cuz of you I though l'Aventurier by Indochine?:laugh I hope this album was just made to earn some money to produce and edgy cd next time. |
Looks like rapper Jevon wrote a song for Taichi.
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/6...921/Bb3xUU.png |
^ this is amazing! I love Too Good so I hope it's something similar
|
His 2nd full album called "Pure" is going to be released November 14th!
Quote:
They're calling his style of music "alternative R&B" here. |
Wow, a new full album so soon! I'm excited and hopeful. I feel like this announcement came REALLY early though, the release date is still three and a galf months away. :laugh
|
Quote:
I've got the info from Baidu, who seems to have got the description from retailers. Btw. he also released a PV for HERO not long ago: Plus Behind the scenes for it: Apart from that he's currently on his first small tour for LOVE EP. I do hope PURE will be better, but the description says it's going to have an experimental approach and some soul influences. Hope he finds a good mix. |

Oh no I was lured by my hope to hear experimental songs. >.<
Thanks for telling me my mistake. |
excited for the album!

New digital single called 'Crazy' is coming August 29th.
|
New digital single リセット (Reset) coming on September 26th. The song will also be used as the ending theme of the anime series 風が強く吹いている (Kaze ga Tsuyoku Fuiteiru) airing starting in October.
(source, source) I've listened to Crazy and all I have to say about it is... does he actually say "japanesey" in the lyrics? :laugh Utada's impact... |
PV for Reset, it's out now:
Such a nice song! Better than Crazy. Btw. the release date of PURE got pushed back to 11/28. |
New digital single "Pure" is out today, third from the new album.
PV will be out 10/28, 8 pm Japanese time. And it's out for a while now, but I didn't want to double post. Covers and tracklist for the album! PURE is out! Thoughts?
I have to say I like the second half of the album much better than the first. Gogo 8-ji, Portman, and Pure are all great and having them one after another is reeeally nice. Gogo 8-ji and Portman are both such dreamy ballads with insanely earwormy choruses and amazing production. Pure is so funky and just so happy, I love it. Other than those songs, I like Reset, Gimme, Siren, and Break up (it's so obviously a Taku Takahashi production and it's great that Taichi sounds so at home with this sound). Some of the other songs might still grow on me (I'm still not sure if I like Ego or not), but after a few listens, there are still quite many that didn't leave much of an impression (Secret, Agony, Answer) and a few I just straight-up don't like (Crazy is still annoyingly blah; Haters actually has a nice sound but my mind just sours as soon as he starts singing about haters). Overall, I find the album much weaker than BLUE, but still decent and with enough songs I love to keep me happy. But I'm also starting to think he needs to change things up; earlier this year, Yoake was talking about missing his more experimental songs, and I'm starting to feel the same way. Too many of the songs on this album were just too unremarkable and felt like they didn't have much to say. I thought this was mainly the case with the upbeat songs; I keep eating up his ballads and slow r'n'b numbers. I hope he can bring back some edge and experimentation in the future. BY THEY WAY, something no one here has discussed yet: I CANNOT BELIEVE (ok fine, I can but don't want to) the sweater he's wearing on the album covers, it must be one of the ugliest goddamn garments I've seen in my life. :tired But I guess it fits the hipster-chic image they seem to be going for. |
PURE is weaker than BLUE, no doubt.
But my problem isn't him missing experimental tracks. It's his stuff being too monotonous. There are enough experimental tracks on the album, like Break up or Haters or Agony e.g. right after another, they're just pretty one-dimensional. Lots of the stuff tends to sound the same and is reptetive, I need more diversity! (Haters is so much better than Break up and Agony to me btw.) Most of my favourite songs also come in the 2nd half of the album. The start is really bland (Secret, Crazy and Break up). Haters, Reset, Gogo 8-ji, Pure and Ego are great, my faves. Agony and Portman are nice and could grow on me. Answer and Gimme aren't doing much for me. I didn't like Siren staying on its own, but in the context of the album it sounds better for me! Says probably nothing good about the rest of the album, haha. So it's 5 I dislike, 5 I like and 3 that are just ok. The sweater isn't that nice, but I've definitely seen worse. ;) EDIT: PURE sold 1,877 in its first week, #47 weekly. And yes, Haters is my favourite song from the album, it's awesome! |
I agree about needing more diversity. And I think the lack of it on this album is highlighted by the tracklist having so many of the more upbeat, similar-sounding songs in a row for the first half. It feels like relief when Reset comes up and brings a change of pace and sound.
I also like Siren better at the end of this album than just as a single, whatever that might say about the song or the album :laugh Thanks for the chart news. Do you know how it did compared to his earlier releases? Seems like it charted higher than BLUE at least. The sweater might not be THE worst thing ever, but I do think it's up there. :P Those sleeves with the seams jutting out... (I wish I liked Haters too, but it still just doesn't do it for me, I like the verses but the chorus is just too flat...) |
BLUE sold less. If I remember correctly it debuted around #70 in its first week. So this is good for him. :)
PURE is a good album for me. After many listens now I can say it's a more....extreme album, in the sense that there are songs I totally dislike and songs I absolutely love. BLUE was better balanced. But PURE has more songs I love than BLUE, so it already has a special place in my heart. BLUE is more enjoyable as a whole with almost only decent tracks and 3 songs I absolutely adore (Sora feat. Salu, ONE and FREER). I hope it's understandable what I mean. :laugh |
Could I say that I nearly cried when I heard Gogo 8-ji for the first time? Finally, the kind of song I was waiting for. The slow rhythm with the pinch of jazz sounds are just amazingly heavenly :luv2
Portman isn't bad too but after Gogo 8-ji I find it a bit weak and pale. Overall the album isn't bad after several plays but there isn't a lot of evolution in his style. I don't mind that when the artist is trying to polish it but I think that Taichi get his true sounds since his first cd and he doesn't need to improve it anymore. He should explore the music instead. |
Idk. He's still building his fanbase and there's no need to evolve at all if he successfully found his niche of music.
Having a signature sound imo is better for building his career than constantly exploring. Most important thing is that he feels comfortable with the music he's doing. |
New song 道 (Michi) announced! It will be used as the second ending theme for the TV anime Kaze ga Tsuyoku Fuiteiru / Run With the Wind. No release date for the song announced yet.
Touring news: his PURE TOUR 2018-2019 seems to have sold out all its stops, and after that, he will do a mini-tour "27" at Billboard Live in Tokyo and Osaka and go on an "ASIA TOUR 2019", performing in Taiwan, Beijing, Shenzen, Shanghai and Korea. He seems to be doing well on the touring front. :) Also, a music video for Break Up was released last month! |
He's also working on a new release.
The song he recorded yesterday made him cry. From his Instagram stories. |
Wow, he must be working a lot lately with all the touring, preparation, songwriting and recording going on. I wonder when the new releases will come out.
Also, the second cour of Run With the Wind will begin airing tomorrow, so I think we'll get to hear Michi soon. |
He is shooting something today!
And he self-styled for it this time (hair, makeup and clothes). :laugh |
He is very productive. It seems like he doesn't stop to create music.
|
道 (Michi) and a rearranged Break up (Part2) feat. ☆Taku Takahashi (m-flo) to be released on Friday, February 1st! (If I'm reading this right.)
|
Not really excited by the collaboration with m-flo because everything turns generic in general. Nice to get Michi tomorrow.
|
The Michi single is out! I'm not a big fan of Michi, it doesn't really stand out or go anywhere. The new version of Break up is drastically different, I didn't expect them to it into a ballad! I prefer the original, but this version is at least interesting.
|
Michi is just a nice ballad. Not memorable but not terrible. I kinda like the play of the violins in the arrangement.
|
Michi is also just nice for me. The other version of Break Up is doing nothing for me.
But on the other hand I've finally ordered a copy of 24, yay! |
Taichi continues his busy touring schedule / world domination, set to appear at SUMMER SONIC 2019 in Tokyo and Osaka and at La Magnifique Society Festival in Reims, France (having already appeared at La Magnifique Society Festival In Tokyo this week), and co-headlining BDP TOUR 2019 (Between Da Pop), another mini-tour in Tokyo, Osaka and Fukuoka, with the other featured act(s) yet to be announced, later in the summer. :)
|
I recently discovered Taichi Mukai by shuffling some Japanese songs on Spotify and I love "Siren." :heart
I also really enjoy this collaboration between him and YonYon (apologies if it's been posted already): |

He also just shared in his Insta stories, that there is an annoucement coming today 6 pm Japanese time. Edit: Info is out. Excited for the new EP, and love the cover! I've seen his photos on Facebook this week and wondered where he's traveling, cool to know he's working here in Italy while I'm here on holiday. :laugh
|
That cover looks great. Looking forward to listening to this new EP! :)
|
|
|
What's your view on 27? I'm not fond of this mini-album just as LOVE last year (I prefer this last one). 27 and Last Peace are the only songs I like. The others are quite forgettable. :/
|
I actually really liked 27! I like the r'n'b sound of the whole EP and enjoy all the songs (though I would agree they're not necessarily his most memorable, at least initially). Last Peace is my favorite.

Yay for new album release! I'm surprised it's coming already in September. And so many new songs, he's been recording like crazy this year. I hope it's gonna be good.
Also, the title track will be released as an advance digital single on August 7th. The new profile picture... I think if you're gonna go with bondage-y thing (that's what the picture brought to my mind), you need to commit harder. :laugh More straps, I say! |
Omg, you just made my day - that's not bondage, it's a harness bag, a current fashion trend! :laugh
He's one big fashion lover. |
Awwww man, love to make a fool out of myself. I'm very much not aware of fashion and I've never heard of a harness bag before. Bondage was the only reference that came to my mind. But thanks, I learned something today. :laugh
|
^really? Is so hot in asia right now. I'm to thicc to wear it tho.
|
A new album again?
I wonder if he'll keep the same path for the next years. A release around June and another during the fall. The cover is quite abstract but I like it. |
A collab with BASI and DJ HASEBE
|
Savage pv
|
I find the song really dull. :/ Unfortunate that his streak of great title tracks is cut short like this.
|
I really like it.

SAVAGE is out! I'm surprised to say this but... I love the album. I've been listening to nothing else all day. I love the whole atmosphere of it all, and the songs are so good! Confession, ICBU, Kimi e, Can't breathe, Saigo wa Katsu, and Dying Young especially stand out to me. Savage and Michi slot into the album so well it makes me like them much more than when they were initially released! And I Like It is such a good choice to close out such a downbeat album.
|
I just discovered him through his Akkogorilla collab! They are both really talented!
|
SAVAGE 1st week chart performance: #39 on the Oricon physical album chart (1221 copies), #41 on the Oricon combined album chart (1659 pt).
|
Finally, I listened to SAVAGE and I don't remember any songs. They're all too much alike. Nothing outstanding. I surprised myself by seeing that two or three songs were already played without realising it. :/
|
He just had his first TV performance!
On Buzzrhythm. His part starts at around minute 39, he performed ICBU. http://m.pandora.tv/?c=view&ch_useri...5#39225280_new I find his new album really, really boring. Yes, it's cohesive, but in a very anticlimactic way, so one-dimensional. The best song for me is I Like It and it sticks out like a sore thumb (which is probably the reason he put it at the end...). Hope he gets more interesting again with his music. |
He recorded something here at the art event of Gradation Daikanyama:
https://www.instagram.com/p/B5J7mJOAFIZ/ https://www.instagram.com/p/B5NDjntJjCk/ Just pics? Or a PV? |
News round-up:
Taichi recorded a cover song, I Believe, for Another Voice –Full Of Harmony Tribute Album– released in November. The song also got a PV released halfway through December: It looks like this PV was what he was recording in the instagram posts shared by Corvina above. ______ On the last day of 2019, a live video of Michi from the SAVAGE tour was uploaded to his youtube channel. Sharing this mostly because this live cut was a pleasant surprise, I enjoyed his voice and performance here more than in the studio version. :) ______ Finally, Taichi is featured with SONPUB on Shingo Katori's new album 20200101 on a track called Now & Forever (feat. SONPUB & MUKAI TAICHI): I Believe is a total snoozefest, but I like Now & Forever! ______ Also, Taichi shared some preliminary information about his schedule for this spring, most notably including news that he will release a new EP in May! source |
Taichi is featured on the new m-flo loves song "tell me tell me", along with eill and Sik-K:
|
His new music continues to be not my kind of music.
I'll still follow him and check everything out for sure, just hope I gonna start liking some of it again. :laugh |
New song "Comin' up" going to be the new opening song of the Abema News programme, starting this week.

His new EP Supplement was released July 29, only digitally tho.
What do you guys think of it? The lead track 僕のままで is really good! The rest is going the same boring direction as Savage for me, but I'm happy to have a song I like again! :laugh He also just released some Supplement goods in collaboration with Lee Izumida, supporting the release live for the EP being held August 28. 僕のままで PV, collabo wirh Rhoto eyedrops: |
I like the EP a lot, it sounds very fresh. The only track that I don't like is Comin' Up.

Taichi released a new single, Get Loud, this week! It's a CM song for EDWIN Jerseys.
It's a great anthemic pop number, I really love it! He's also releasing a live Blu-ray of Supplement Live at Zepp Haneda(TOKYO) on December 23rd! It's a limited release through his label's merch shop, available here. Digest video: |
