30 Day Song Challenge ～Ayu ver.～
Hey all,
I thought it would be fun to bring the 30 Day Song Challenge from instagram to ahs as an ～Ayu ver.～. I needed to change a few challenges. For example I changed Day 07, so that also everyone who's too young to drive could participate, or I changed Day 13 to 90s instead of 70s, or Day 18 from year to month, since I guess a lot of us are born before 1998. You get the drift. I think this could be fun, because already going through Ayu's discography and trying to remember all songs with a colour in the title was at least fun for me and made me listen to all of them again. I always really loved the lyrics of this one and I think it got a great arrangement which works very well with the lyrics. Day 1 - GREEN (Damn, it's so hard to choose between RAINBOW and GREEN, they are probably a tie for me, but only for today I'll go with GREEN)

I love this idea! Now I also want to do a broader Asian music version of this in the Asian Music forums. But that can wait until after this 30 days is over. :)
Day 01: A song you like with a colour in the title I would also say monochrome. I love the lyrics and melody, they're catchy and evergreen. The original arrangement is my favourite version, but I also love the live recording from PoM 2011, this song doesn't suffer in the transition into a different style. monochrome also gets extra points because it's one of the Ayu songs I can sing from memory, without looking at the lyrics or hearing the music. :D (If we're going with a stricter definition of colour, my pick would be GREEN. It's dark, mysterious, and dramatic!) ________________________________________________ I wanted to prepare for the next prompt in advance, so I thought that in addition to the obvious original songs with numbers in their titles, I'd look up all the remixes that would qualify as well. Day 01: A song you like with a colour in the title I have to go with GREEN, it's so unique sound-wise and also it was the first single of hers I got to see being released (I knew ayu a bit after MW came out), so I still remember teasers, seeing the covers being released, being amazed at how gorgeous the PV was. Plus I really love the lyrics! |

Rainbow! I still remember when the Rainbow album came out, and listening to it non-stop everyday in my room. The excitement around having a first-press and access to the site that had Rainbow's melody, even if I couldn't submit lyrics for the project. Then when A Ballads came out with the final song, it was just perfection, and so different from her other music - it's so ethereal, the video is amazing, etc. |
Monochrome for day 1. The songs mood is really unique and melancholy. I really love this song

RAINBOW for Day 01. This song is so unique, and stands out from her discography. I love how it starts with a very soothing melody in the beginning, and changes later on in a different, catchy chorus. It is so smooth and perfect. All time favourite!

theme of a-nation '03 This song is such a stand-out in Ayu's discography. Just 100% soothing warmth. I wish she had more ballads that sounded a little like this. Spoiler:

New day! Today I pick 1 LOVE, a song I love so much I even put in my username. Even though I don't think it is Ayu's best rock song, I just really love how provocative this song is. The right amount of sass, cynical wordplay, yet very clear message about what she really wants. Plus, a video where Ayu poledances... should I say more?? I also really like the recent live performances, can't really get tired of this routine.

This one is hard! I'm going to go with July 1st. }{ was such a moment, even if most of the tv performances to promote the single were awful. It's such an apologetically happy song. Theme of A-Nation '03 is a close second though - agree that it's just such a standout track in her discography. |

So many great songs to pick here... But I have to go with P.S. II, the way she revisited POWDER SNOW and made it even MORE sad and dramatic is just a win to me lol Plus the instrumental is so powerful, it gives me chills every single time I listen to it. Truly a gem. |

Day 3 - Summer love (the whole M(A)DE IN JAPAN album is love); It has the right amount of nostalgia and freshness, I really like that. fairyland is amazing too.

Day 3: July 1st
Though BLUE BIRD and Summer Diary are the summer anthems imo, to me July 1st is to the song that actually reminds me of summer. With July 1st on your mind it is like waking up and experiencing summer in little details. Later on, when the music progresses, you let go whatever is worrying you and it is time to enjoy! Whenever I listen to July 1st, even if it is not (near) summer at all, I start noticing the finest details that could make the darkest day brighter. |
Day 01: GREEN it’s quite funny because I couldn’t stand it when I first discovered Ayu but now it’s one of those songs that make you think that Ayu is a very versatile singer. I mean I can’t find another singer of the same caliber switching from a style to another without compromise.
Day 02: Talking 2 myself It was the first song I downloaded when I discovered her. It was an instant love. Day 03: everywhere nowhere I don’t think this song is seen as a summer song at all but to me the whole ambiance and the way how the song is arranged really make me thing of summer. |

Day 03: A song that reminds you of summertime
There are so many! And I already decided to put my favourite summer song in a different category... Honestly, one of the first songs that came to my mind was count down. In my mind, this song is inextricably linked to summer 2010, back when I had the songs from Rock'n'Roll Circus on endless rotation in my head. I remember that summer being oppressively hot (the highest temperature ever measured in Finland is from July 2010!) but not very sunny, and count down's sound really brings that whole vibe back for me. Day 01: RAINBOW RAINBOW is such a soft and calm Song ans I love that about Day 02: 1 Love I choose this one because I really got into Ayu a few month before this song and Secret got release. Still Love it but I choose it more for the nostalgia behind it Day 03: NEXT LEVEL This is a song I often listen to when the sun is out. I don't know but it always gives me a good vibe and makes me wanna go outside and relax in the sun |

Day 03: A song that reminds you of summertime BLUE BIRD I love its carefree sound and somehow it makes me really happy to listen to it. Also I have a lot of of amazing memories singing it at karaoke during summer with my Japanese friends in Shibuya. Listening to it always brings me back to those days. |
I don't really associate songs with seasons, but if summer is a happy and carefree feeling then definitely Glitter for day 3.

Today I pick for Day 4 SCAR
This is a very personal, because this song reminds me of someone I was in very toxic "relationship" with, if one could call it like that. It lasted for 8 years and it didn't even stop when he proposed to his fiancè. I am really ashamed about how long it lasted, how much I hoped I meant something to him and about how basically I am the bad guy in this situation. Long story short: when he cut me off last year, I felt very unhappy, disgusting and stupid, and SCAR made me remind me so much of him. Recently, he crawled back - but this time I am done. Unfortunately, SCAR still reminds me of this situation, and summarizes both pain and desperation I felt for him during the years. Luckily, it doesn't make me sad anymore, that would be a waste of a very beautiful song. |

Day 4 - Anything for you
I'm going to change the description a bit for this one, because I, as well, don't have any ayu song that reminds me of someone I want to forget. But I have a song that reminds me of a tragic situation in the life of a friend. I remember that I used to listen to Anything for you a lot during those times (it was during the release of A ONE), that I just couldn't bear listening to the track afterwards. Today, I finally revisited the song after many years. |

This guy had the guts to ignore me after a while and years later mde me hope tht this time it would work out.... only to get told via text message that he still h something for his stupid girl. 01 - GREEN
It was the first new release I was aware of after I found ayu in 2008. It has a special place in my heart as well as Days because duh, GREEN/Days / Days/GREEN 02 - Song 4 U It was one of the prime eras I had with ayu when this came out. Song 4 U is my motivation song with "What was it? Who was it? That made you decide that somehow you could try to move forward once more" 03 - You & Me ayu has so many summer bops but for some reason it's You & Me even tho it's not my favorite summer song 04 - NOW & 4EVA well shortly my ex who basically ruined my life at that time |

Day 04: A song that reminds you of someone you’d rather forget Voyage was one of my first five Ayu songs and it was an old friend I've since lost touch with that introduced it to me. We used to karaoke it all the time and those are some treasured memories, but unfortunately we grew up and became different people. As time goes on it becomes easier remember the good times rather than what came later though :) It happened so long ago... it's funny how even old arguments can become nostalgic to look back on. |

GREEN. It was for a long time my favorite song and even now it's among her best imo. Day 02: A song you like with a number in the title Song 4 u. I wasn't impressed at first 'cause I think progress is a really great and solid song and the comparison was inevitable. But time has passed and now I appreciate its own flavor. Beautiful melody, arrangement and vocals. Day 03: A song that reminds you of summertime Even it was released on spring, NEXT LEVEL reminds me a lot of my visits to the beach during the album release. Day 04: A song that reminds you of someone you’d rather forget I think there isn't any Ayu song that I can relate to this feeling. But I think "reminds me" it's the obvious choice for someone you want to forget but fail to. Day 05: A song that needs to be played loud Mirrorcle World, for sure. It's a hell of badass song lol |

There's so many of these :tipsy But I do always end up turning my volume high when something like WE WISH - Ramon Zenker remix or the Naturally Wippenberg remix comes on. I don't really have anything for this category either... After a bit of stretching and grasping, I'll say Lady Dynamite. The lyrics are about telling some annoying jackasses off, which seems like a good fit here, and the little controversy and misunderstandings around this song are also a reminder of some unpleasant people. Day 05: A song that needs to be played loud alterna! But there really are so many fitting choices for this category... Time to make a loud Ayu playlist, perhaps. Spoiler:

DAy 5 : Definitely Decision for me !!This song has so much anger that I feel the need to turn the volume up.

Opps forgot to participate yesterday. For day 5 Its hard to choose between Decision, Lovesong and Because of you and although Decision is my favorite Ayu song and it's lyrics are most personal to me, Lovesong wins because of its amazing chorus build up. It makes me want to run to the rooftops and scream the chorus out loud.

Day 5 - I usually love to listen to instrumentals / interludes such as taskinillusion, tasky, Not yet, LABIRYNTH at a louder volume. But if I had to choose one, I'll go with tasky. There are also some remixes and original songs that I listen to in this manner.

Whaaa, I had so much work for uni the last two days, that I need to do Day 4 and 5 now.
Day 4: Feel the love When the single was released, I was dating a guy I fell for very badly and who only used me to get some "distraction", how he later said. I was so happy when I listened to that song, because I thought he really liked me. Now that so much time has passed, I can listen to the song again and feel happy, and I actually listened to it a lot last winter. It's not a particualr good song, but I like it and somehow it makes me happy (again) to listen to it, even though there is this "little pain" when listening to it. Day 5: Actually every song, I just love listening to music as loud as my neighbours let me. lol But if I have to choose just one, I think for now I agree with Yumsushi. The way Love song is structured and its build up really need to be played out loud. |

I think it is Love song, I don't know how to explain why, though. It is the arrangement that really works for me, I always have to watch out if I don't speed up. But as for riding the train, to me it's the best song to daydream to and experience happy feelings. |
