This makes me wonder if the shoot with Shimoko was for summer goods maybe...?

From tweets:
Quote:

Japan's largest summer festival a-nation with cumulative audience of more than 6.1 million people, the first online performance in history "a-nation online 2020" to be held.

Due to the spread of new coronavirus infection, a-nation announced that it will postpone the in-person live show. As a result of all the staff members examining a project that everyone can enjoy, in the summer of 2020, we decided to hold "a-nation online 2020", the first online music festival in the history of a-nation.

In this event, multiple stages will be set up and users can select and view the ones they want. In addition, we plan to offer online events like a real event, and to develop not only in Japan but also in Asia and other countries around the world, which is unique to online music festivals.

We will announce the performance artists, ticket information, viewing method, etc. as soon as it is decided, so please wait for further information.
Because there's a global element to it, I think it'll do rather well but I guess it depends on prices and where they decide to let people view it.

Most tweets/comments seem to be asking about Tohoshinki, Ayu, and AAA.

ayu just repost in her IG stories. which mean she will also take part in this a-nation.....

Chris_Duvall 18th June 2020 08:56 AM

I had a feeling that they‘ll make it an online thing this year. I wonder how much it will cost.

She reposted it on IG as well but mentioned really generic things in her comment talking about safety being high priority and that entertainment will not be lost in Japan, also ganbare a-nation! No outright confirmation of participation but I think she's probably itching to do something for it.

Worth noting that it doesn't seem any other artist has retweeted or reposted on IG besides Ayu atm?

https://www.instagram.com/p/CBj40kaFwsZ/ One of the entertainment x tech engineers posted about it-ish too!

We just sent out the announcement for "a-nation online 2020" at 12 noon(JST). My team had a pride in more skills on video creative and live broadcasting that have developed over the years and so on, we’ll continue to promote our "Entertainment x Tech" project! This event will feature multiple stages, allowing customers to select their own viewing preferences, and also to watch from around the world including Asia. We'll be posting more details to you on the website and various SNS at anytime!

Deep snow 18th June 2020 12:22 PM

sounds very interesting. excited how they will execute this.

jiarongisme 18th June 2020 12:26 PM

Looking forward to see Ayu flail around in her own house on Zoom!

Chris85 18th June 2020 01:01 PM

I hope she participates and it's pre-recorded, not a live stream.

Katsuyuki012 18th June 2020 01:13 PM

^Same.

truehappiness 18th June 2020 02:12 PM

I think they could probably manage an actual performance venue to use for something since she and the dancers seem to have met up recently from TA videos they've made and the photoshoot she did. It's been long enough for small groups to gather at least so they won't have to do the "live from home" sort of thing.

If it wasn't going to be months from now, prerecorded would be likelier but I think they'll go for live especially with the guy works on live broadcasting posting about it.

Yes, the fact that they're talking about setting up stages indicates that.
I want it pre-recorded so that they can select best takes so that we don't have to suffer if things go south.

truehappiness 18th June 2020 03:37 PM

a-nation is typically not that bad though honestly. Usually it's the highlight of her televised lives of the year.

Earth_maiden 18th June 2020 04:16 PM

I would pay to show my support for this idea.

Evan Odinson 18th June 2020 05:42 PM

I really hope she will participate!

They actually did this on 2011 it looked like a small discotheque but it was just for a few artists to perform there, maybe this time they will hold it on a bigger venue as probably they are going with the entire line-up

truehappiness 19th June 2020 12:55 AM

Like that setup I think they'll do a main stage or two and then various smaller substages for other acts. I think at the most when they were doing it at normal a-nations it was like 2-3 small stages for other performers?

Depending on how many artists they end up having this could be really chaotic, lol. Hopefully they have VODs available for a bit.

tokyoxjapanxfan 19th June 2020 11:45 AM

I think I saw some people saying that since the pre-showing of her new concert for TA is going to be on the same day, they wonder if Ayu will actually be involved in a-nation? But I suppose you could still watch both depending on the timing. But well, just figured I’d mention it. I didn’t even check to see what days both things are on lol.

Katsuyuki012 19th June 2020 11:53 AM

I think she can still perform at a-nation. I really hope she does! August will be a good month for TA!:heart

Would it be on the same day? I think the TA preorder viewing would be the week prior. Traditionally it seems like a-nation is held on the last weekend of August (in this case, would be 29th/30th) but the TA thing along with the actual release is the week before that.

August 23rd is the scheduled date for the preorder viewing and I figure they already had figured the a-nation date in with that, though we still don't know any details and probably won't for a while regarding a-nation.

tokyoxjapanxfan 19th June 2020 04:35 PM

You’re right! So I wonder where that conversation came from. Well, that’s good news at least.

Corvina 19th June 2020 04:41 PM

The only news so far we have about the date is that it's going to be held at the end of August (8月末).
Imo both last weekends are possible as they usually use those, so it could overlap with the TA plans.
Usually a-nation is also more than on one weekend, so who knows how they gonna do it this time and if Ayu even wants.

kotora 19th June 2020 06:33 PM

if you mean CDL 0708, then I think it's pitch-corrected; not lip-synced.

Evolution7/4 7th August 2020 08:12 PM

I haven't seen the TV version in forever. Does that one seem more live? CUz the DVD does not.

yes, the TV version is (painfully) raw. her vocals are still strong, but she missed a lot of notes I think because she was struggling with total deafness on her left ear.

truehappiness 7th August 2020 10:30 PM

I think all of CDL07-08 she was dealing with emotional overload too since one of her best friends had died but she wasn't told till a while after.

my goodness I didn't know that she wasn't told until later :( must have been a heavy show to perform.

Evolution7/4 7th August 2020 11:04 PM

Yeah you could definetly tell she was going through it during that live. I gotta hunt down the TV version!

The entry she talked about it during... it's so sad. The staff/her family did not want to tell her until she came back to Japan from LA.

Evolution7/4 8th August 2020 12:11 AM

Wow I forgot how heart wrenching that was. Especially the bit where she went to her house to check if it was true. So sad!

chocopockymaster 8th August 2020 12:44 AM

Guh I just cried all over again

Evolution7/4 8th August 2020 01:03 PM

Fated delievered. :) Happy to have that performance in 1080p for now. Getting really nostalgic watching these a-nation performances from that era of J-Pop. Its sad that its over but also lovely that it was experienced.

ExodusUK 9th August 2020 02:45 AM

I love the TO BE performance from '09 — the one time shouting out the song added to the song in a positive manner.

oh my goodness. thank you for sharing this. it's such an unfiltered reflection of the emotional toll she had during the 2007–2008 transition :weep

anyways, I'm very happy to see a-nation '07–'10. there are so many performances I love here, especially the opening songs of '08–'10. Mirrorcle World looks so goddamn dignified here, with just enough hand-flailing and without the 60-minute outro of "wow wow yeah yeah yeah"s of the more recent performances :laugh

Evolution7/4 11th August 2020 09:31 AM

Are Kalen and Ayu gonna perform together. :D Or at least meet backstage?

njanjayrp 11th August 2020 01:50 PM

So wondering how they intend to stream this?

Deep snow 11th August 2020 02:44 PM

I'm still a little bit confused with the logistics of the online performances. are all the artists going to be performing in separate locations (and then streamed chronologically according to the list) or are they all going to take turns using one venue?

if the former, then it would give each artist some liberty to set and decorate their own stages AND I think it could minimise exposure to covid-19 since they would "only" be interacting with members of their own crew.

truehappiness 11th August 2020 04:44 PM

The list is alphabetical.

They're probably all going to stream in from various venues like in Korea or China/Taiwan for those acts. They're setting up "multiple stages" so you can tune in to certain acts if you wanted to. I think it'll basically be like old a-nation with the main stage, then various smaller stages for smaller acts available to choose with simultaneous running schedules and some of the international acts will probably be mixed into main stage or have their own stages.

Also in this case "stage" just means, which stream to watch them from since at actual a-nation they typically have a smaller separate area for smaller acts that is not part of the biiiig main stage.

Corvina 11th August 2020 04:47 PM

It's already announced that they're going to stream from several stages across Asia.

Evan Odinson 11th August 2020 04:58 PM

thank you for this! excited to see what kind of act ayu's doing.

truehappiness 11th August 2020 11:32 PM

I'm curious if they'll have a stadium to use just with no audience or just where they'll do the main acts... I guess we'll see!

ExodusUK 11th August 2020 11:56 PM

The only way they'd allow Kalan to perform at a-nation would be if they can't put her in front of an audience and have the luxury of editing it lol

Actually, unlike her drama recorded lives, she was pretty ok singing on TV those past months... She even sang with some older acts and it was good enough.

Maybe she is more of a singer than she is a performer, something the Ayu role demanded of her.

truehappiness 12th August 2020 07:40 PM

The way she was performing it was very "karaoke-lite" at least. I think Ayu started off similarly but Ayu had a bit of a spark to her somehow?

Ayu always had this very particular stage presence... I agree Karen Anzai has a karaoekish thing to her peeformances, but tbh, the same can be aplied to most jpop singers.

I mean, look at Hikaru Utada, for example: two decades in the industry, a concert being broadcasted globally though Netflix, still looks lost qs fuck on stage lol

tokyoxjapanxfan 13th August 2020 07:42 AM

Ayu was not always the most natural either lol. This is prime karaoke-stance lol

Ayu's eyes were always expressive, even when she was bent over double singing to herself haha. Karen's eyes just seem blank

SunshineSlayer 13th August 2020 04:16 PM

^This. Ayu didn't move her body much in the begining, but she didn't really have to because her face was always expressive.

:love

ayu was the first J-pop artist I followed religiously and I just took her stage charisma for granted. I never realised how much she commands the stage after I started watching performances of her contemporaries. it's crazy how much presence she exudes with just a look, a hand gesture, and other small things.

Think this has lots to do with experience, ayu started touring early on at an aggressive pace and has continued to do so during the whole of her career. Utada does a tour every 5-7 years.

Andrenekoi 13th August 2020 07:33 PM

^Yeah, Hikki most likely would do better on stage nowadays had she toured more... But still, counting her touring, TV lives, internet performances, etc, she is not unexperienced either. Not hating on though, I'm a fan and watched pretty much every live performance of hers that I could get my hands on.

I don't think Kalen looked dead in the eyes during her TV performances though... Still, she looks mostly stiff and clearly has no idea of what to do during the instrumentals, but I don't think it's too bad for someone with so little performance experience.

MKAyu 14th August 2020 01:56 AM

Ayu has said that with her knee and hearing the best thing to do would be to stop performing on stage, but the reason she doesn't is because she herself isn't prepared to do that. I think her charisma comes from her own joy in performing. It's the greatest joy in her life, and it shows.

kendelle 18th August 2020 11:53 AM

VLive is good for streaming, the quality of the stream is usually high even on a slower connection (at least in my experience).

It's great that the opportunity is there for us gaijin, but I just paid for KARD's concert and the WM Entertainment concert so I have no money for it this time LOL

I'm guessing the setup will be like the recent Korean Dream Concert where they hosted it on an indoor stage and had the acts perform like a standard TV Show. Hopefully with the bigger acts they might have bigger space and pyrotechnics/special effects?

And yay for a-nation details! I'm looking forward to watching it this year.

Are the names in order of appearance? It looks odd to me to see ayu so early, plus Kalen being placed right before Kumi when I was expecting avex to pair her up with ayu lol

Chibi-Chan 18th August 2020 03:51 PM

^Alphabetically ;) But by surname first, like Ayumi Hamasaki, Kalen Anzai, Koda Kumi (for some reason Kuu is the other way around) Kohmi Hirose etc.

Yeah, she has done enough performances where it shouldn't matter that she does less than some other people. She has great songs, she just isn't charismatic. Charismatic performers are hard to find, especially in Japan.

If it's like usual a-nations, Ayu probably will do a large amount of songs. Most of the acts typically will do 2-3 and Ayu will probably get closer to 10. They're also slotting them into a 6 hour slot per stage, so among who is there, we'll probably see a good amount of songs on average but more for the people toward the end.

Timetable is out! Ayu is last performer for blue stage after SuperM and her set is slated to last for nearly an hour. Looks like she has the longest set of all acts so far.

I originally planned to watch a-nation together with a friend who is interested in k-pop. Now something came up and she can't make it anymore, which means I can't afford the ticket by my own anymore since I lost so much income because of covid. =( I guess someone will record it anyway, but I was so looking forward to watch it live, as well as to see Kuu and TRF and to revive all those memories from when I went to a-nation in 2018. This somehow makes me more sad than it should. lol

Of course it makes sense that you're sad! Covid is ruining so much for everyone. :no You'll get another chance, though, surely.

I did :) I know it's overpriced because I only have a strong interest in Ayu and Kuu, but at least this will give me the illusion of attending an a-nation show at least once in my life lmaoo

I literally only want to see Ayu and I'm curious about Kalen and that's about it. Still unsure of whether I pay or just wait for someone to upload...

I just bought my ticket! My partner and I will be watching together - it'll be the first time I've been able to watch a-nation live at all, so I'm really happy it's so accessible to overseas fans this year :weep :heart

Random question... Does anyone knows if a-nation '17+'18 are going to be streamed on YouTube? or just from a-nation '03 till '16?...

Those who complained about her outfit for FNS are going to be mad again, she's wearing pretty much the same thing in other color. Haha
