2020 FNS Kayousai

Ayu will sing "Ohia no Ki" for the first time on tv at this year's FNS Kayousai festival on 2 December. The show starts at 6:30 pm

Chris85 26th November 2020 02:31 PM

Wil her performance be pre-taped? Not excited about the song choice, but I'm all for another TV live.

Sky High 26th November 2020 02:52 PM

It think it will be prerecorded. It is shame, only one song, still happy to see her.

maxikot 26th November 2020 02:58 PM

I think the song is a perfect choice :) Ballads are more tv friendly and I really like the song. I'm sure it will be a wonderful performance :heart

Out of the two songs released this year Ohia has more plays everywhere and seems to be the more popular of the two (if we can even use the word popular). Also looking at her top songs on Spotify, the majority in top 10 are ballads, so guess it just makes sense. Would prefer if she had something new up her sleeve.

koumori 26th November 2020 05:32 PM

I'm so happy she'll be performing Ohia no Ki! I'm surprised we're getting another TV performance this year, she's keeping so busy as usual. I can't wait to see this :heart

DavidChaiLatte 26th November 2020 06:09 PM

I have a feeling it’ll sound even better than the studio version given how her voice has recovered nicely as evident in last trouble.

Not happy with this song too, but it's better than something like seasons

Sim' 26th November 2020 11:07 PM

Already forgot what this song sounds like...
But I guess it's still better than nothing, so whatever

pedronekoi 26th November 2020 11:07 PM

That's such an amazing surprise! I looooved Ohia no Ki during trouble tour. I think this will be amazing! And hoping for a pregnant figure to give the whole motherhood vibes.

You should give it another chance. The melody of the chorus is actually really nice and the AAAAAH lehua ga ohiaaa no kiii in the end is epic.

DevilsClap 27th November 2020 07:16 PM

^ AGREE on the last part.
Anyway I'm excited to see the performance :)

Mikytaryan 27th November 2020 08:06 PM

Excited for this performance :love

Ohia no Ki has such a soft melody and the way she sings it so gently is perfect for the cozy season. It's also her most personal song yet as an added bonus.

Looking forward to a sweet and genuine performance :yes

oaristos 27th November 2020 08:43 PM

I'm excited! I think it's a great song choice, especially since she already sang Dreamed a Dream on TV.

Yoake 28th November 2020 12:45 AM

I'm ready to watch it. :D
It's great that she'll sing a new song and not another old ballads.

Deep snow 28th November 2020 01:10 AM

I like Dreamed a Dream more because oh my god it's such a banger, but I understand the song choice—オヒアの木 is much more meaningful to her to end the year on, given what that song represents. I hope she performs well in a huge-ass behemoth of a dramatic dress! :luv2

tokyoxjapanxfan 28th November 2020 07:25 AM

I haven’t listened to either song since their releases lol

But I preferred ohia so I’m glad

visionfactory 29th November 2020 07:36 AM

Ohia no Ki is such a good choice!

EndOfTheWorld 29th November 2020 11:45 AM

I look forward to it. I'm hoping she'll bring out a beautiful dress for the performance.:heart

MKAyu 30th November 2020 04:10 AM

I'm glad we're back to performing new music! Even the Trouble Tour didn't use a lot of the Trouble songs, but older ones instead. But she's really been pushing to use more new(er) music in recent years when she gets the chance to perform. It's like she's looking to the future again!

ava_dreams 2nd December 2020 05:12 PM

njanjayrp 2nd December 2020 05:13 PM

Awesome job Ayu!

inspire_rmx 2nd December 2020 05:20 PM

love the dress and performance. indeed a flawless performance. its fresh seeing just her on the stage and singing her heart out

Kacku 2nd December 2020 05:23 PM

Perfect performance. She sounded so good, her emotion was pouring all over and she looked divine. This really elevated Ohia no Ki for me.

kaled kalil 2nd December 2020 05:24 PM

She sounded lovely! Very good performance for sure.

The dress was beautiful, it looks very much like Vera Wang's Organza Rosette wedding gown, but fuller.

thank you for the link. I'm absolutely floored. yes, it's most likely due to it being a pre-recorded performance with editing beforehand, but it's still an impressive feat of vocal control from her.

and she looks MAGNIFICENT. I'm a sucker for her humongous dresses and this one definitely included. also, I couldn't make out a pregnancy bump (probably because I was too focussed on her voice and everything else in this performance.)

lastly—so happy to see the band! when I spotted Yusuke at the piano I legitimately squealed :luv2

Evan Odinson 2nd December 2020 06:56 PM

She's Trending Topic right now on Twitter (Japan) most comments are positive, they really liked the song and also are praising her beauty :love

Mikytaryan 2nd December 2020 07:15 PM

This performance was so blissful and gentle. I loved everything about it, from her dress to how softly she was singing.

I feel that this shows how much effort she invests to do better, to sing better, to remain on the stage that she loves so much :heart

I admire her more than ever. A wonderful woman :love

Zeke. 2nd December 2020 08:05 PM

A really beautiful performance.

I love how humble her demeanor is, despite the lavish attire and strong vocal.

At her core she’s able to transmit raw, real and human emotion, and the heightened visuals don’t distract from that ー rather they work well to merely enhance the magnitude of what she very organically transmits.

She feels so natural here. Feels like the good old days when she was acting casual.

She looked AMAZING and her performance was indeed FLAWLESS.

Can't believe like a couple of years ago she sounded really, really bad...
And now we have this, like ayu at her vocal peak again.
Yes it's pre-recorded, but still you can tell she is delivering like the old days. This year has been a real treat vocally wise.

I love her so much right now.
Now bring on a f****** piece of art of an album and I can die happy.

truehappiness 3rd December 2020 01:01 AM

Incredible. Showstopping. AMAZING.........

Have no words really, just awe. All the performances this year have just kept delivering and getting better! Xmas Live and CDL are gonna be WOW.

Ruan Borges 3rd December 2020 01:02 AM

Ohia no Ki was the best choice, she sounded AMAZING, I am in love with this performance, the dress is everything, she is glowing, her voice control makes so happy fo her.

She gave us real good stuff this year, and we still have the whole December yet to go!

love in music 3rd December 2020 01:37 AM

Wow wow wow. I am SO proud of her. She sounds so beautiful and looks breathtaking. I always loved her big poofy dresses she liked to wear around winter promoting her winter ballads. She still looks just as beautiful as she did 14 years ago promoting JEWEL, and sounds just as beautiful. This is giving me feels and nostalgia, reminding me of the excitement I used to get years ago around winter with her winter songs & poofy dress lives. Now I feel like I need to go on an ayu winter live binge!

AyuCanada 3rd December 2020 02:28 AM

This was such a good performance! I love the dress and the hair! She sang very well too!

MelKeigo 3rd December 2020 05:05 AM

It was wonderful!! She sounded great, and much better than when she sang it in the middle of the year (saigo no trouble? I forgot ahha)
The dress was beautiful and everything fit together so well
I'm in love <3

Chris85 3rd December 2020 12:18 PM

Probably her best performance this year, although there's screaming here and there.

This performance was perfect. She was controlled with her vocals and didn't try to overdo anything, and just let it be soft and natural. It was amazing. It made me emotional and I confess I cried. She also looks so beautiful. :heart

This (pre-recorded) performance is even better. A lot of JEWEL's TV lives already had raw, uncontrolled vocals with some shouting and a lot of off key parts.

280301 4th December 2020 09:50 AM

Great performance - Ayu's vocals were excellent, and her dress was gorgeous.

And I'm just going to write it: The lack of dancers made this performance all the more better, and reminded me of her TV lives pre-2008ish. She really doesn't need them at all for ballad performances at least - she has the charisma and presence to be engaging with only herself and the band.

adrtwb 4th December 2020 11:45 AM

This live is surprisingly good, which seems “too good to be true”.

There's no need for all of you to be purposefully obtuse; obviously her comment was about 2020 being such a good year for us as fans and for Ayu herself.

In terms of the quality of her work and what we've all been lucky enough to enjoy as overseas fans through her streaming performances and her new music, then yeah--she's kept us fucking fed this year. Especially when you compare it to previous years of her just touring nonstop through Japan which were great for domestic fans but straight torture for most of us.

So yeah, I'd say 2020 has been such a good year for everyone that still gives enough of a damn to keep up with Ayu and the work she's doing.

Earth_maiden 4th December 2020 09:57 PM

truehappiness 5th December 2020 06:45 AM

2020 is a great year for Ayu tbh. It may be her best vocals ever potentially barring maybe ONE other year. Lots of great lives and the babies!

Not really a fan of the poking at the comment because it was kinda clear what it was about...

Katsuyuki012 5th December 2020 07:27 AM

^agreed.

zellyx 5th December 2020 09:05 AM

Eh??? I literally didn't hear any screaming in that performance.
She's clearly working on her vocals since she's basically got 1/4th of the hearing she did at the beginning of her career. I can't even imagine how hard that would be.

YUKARI 5th December 2020 06:37 PM

omg it's her best tv-live performance in like a decade!! and she looked so beautiful!! it's a shame they didn't make close-ups :(

I honestly don’t hear it either. It’s her best performance in years. If it wasn’t because her lip syncing is really obvious when she does it, I would have thought this was too. She sounds even better than on the studio version!! The hype for the upcoming concerts is real.

Mikytaryan 7th December 2020 03:44 PM

Hm, I totally understand how ballad performances may come as louder than usual since the instruments are gentler and allows her voice to be more powerful. I would not call that screaming though.
The note Chris85 mentions "sonna koto o tsutaeyō kana..." is a transition one so it comes out seemingly powerful than the one that follows it.
As a musician myself, I try to listen to a performance with the emotion in mind. How is she conveying that emotion? Does it reach me? In this performance it reached me without hearing any screaming or forceful notes.

It clearly is a subjective topic since our focus and hearing may differ, but keep in mind that not every powerful sung note is screaming. I get it how comparing to some of her other years and adjusting to her new vocals may be tough, but it seems that we tend to use the term "screaming" easily when it comes to her singing, which saddens me.

I stand by my point that it is obvious she has been investing so much in her voice this year and I hope she can sing like this in front of a live audience as well.

Absolutely. And there are powerful notes in this performance that I consider to be singing, but that one and few others I didn't like, more in the shouty territory to me.
Yes, it's subjective.

EndOfTheWorld 8th December 2020 08:29 PM

I'm so happy with this performance. The vocals were wonderful and her dress did not disappoint.:heart
I am hoping for more performances like this in the future. Good vocals, gorgeous costume, live band, natural emotions. I actually feel an excitement that I haven't felt in a while from this performance.
