_genic is underrated among Namie fans, way better than FEEL for me, that one did not age well

^FEEL is the stronger album to me, and still is. I still don't see how songs "cannot age well" other than incorrect (political) lyrics. Songs aren't necessarily meant to sound universally fresh for ages and it is no crime to inherit the feeling of a certain decade.

I like both albums. FEEL was obviously intended to just be a fun summer album, and it succeeds in every way for me.
_genic is Namie trying to marry her R&B sound with her new pop/EDM sound, and it mostly works. I think some of the arrangements just weren't done well enough, but it's otherwise a solid album.

FEEL was such a solid album, but I gravitate towards _genic a lot more cause it's just so catchy. Stranger is a good workout song :laugh

I personally never got the love for stranger. To me it was one of the weakest songs on that record. But thats how music works.

I love FEEL so much. It’s one of my favorites if not the favorite namie album. I listened to it sooo many times in the months after its release. Feel tour was also my first jpop concert :)

Was there ever conversation afterwards about _genic being her last studio album, and her having a whole funeral look for the album/promo? I remember there might have been, but thought about it again after reading these comments about the album, and I still find it fascinating :D

i prefer feel but _genic is amazing as well. I wouldn't say its less strong than feel though. just personal preference!

to me technically her last album is Finally. Not the compilation part, but all the singles and new songs for it grouped as an album. But it's a nice thought.

Feel was such a solid album and personally has massive memories attached to it (driving from the grand canyon to Vegas at night with the top down vibes). I also found that it converted people (in my circle) that didn't get the appeal of Namie. Funny enough when my bf heard "Feel" he was convinced that we had to get to Japan to see her live. It will forever get a spin

Turns out it was just reported that Hero was the number 1 most requested song in cable broadcast for the 3rd time in a row. Oricon also published an article saying it’s due to the Tokyo Olympics and also it being the 3rd anniversary of her retirement.

So the rumors about her releasing some kind of compilation this year were fake? Would love avex to release some kind of remix album, unreleased material, whatever it is next year which is her 30th anniversary. I can’t believe it’s been almost 5 years already since Finally.

^ I would assume that *if* they're going to release anything, it would be in 2022 for 30th anniversary. I'm doubtful that they would release any new/previously unreleased material though. Avex tends to go for minimal effort/value with a huge price tag, so probably just repackaging old material in a new box if I had to guess. But I'd be very happy to be wrong. I'd love dvd/blu rays of her unreleased tours such as her fanspace exclusive and to get some unreleased tracks (of which I'm sure there are plenty).

On a related note - were her performances at TK dance camp '95 and TK pan pacific tour '97 ever released officially?

I didn't realize how close it was to her retirement anniversary until my playlist shuffled in 60s70s80s today. Man, I really miss her... TTnTT.

Just about that FEEL x _genic: I love both. FEEL "feels" like it has one rhythm going on 90% of the album and it feels so dark and good to listen to at a night time. I really dislike Let Me Let You Go and wasn't a big fan of Big Boys Cry either... without those, would be Namie's best album after past<FUTURE.
About _genic, I love everything about it. When it's happy it is HAPPY, when it is dance, you will DANCE and etc... Anything is a cute ballad, the lyrics of most songs are pretty good and the sonority of it really reminds me past<FUTURE era. Some 80s, some 90s, some futuristic beats, so it kinda works for me way more than her 'american' album Uncontrolled because it sounds more cohesive and don't have something really breaking the feels like FEEL has or even Uncontrolled where every song sounds out of the place. hm
I'm not a fan of Stronger btw... but I'm not a fan of Golden Touch either lol... but I really enjoy both sometimes hahaha

Are the tracks on these best albums remastered or differ from the original versions in some kind?
181920, BALLADA

from 181920 all tracks are supposed to be remastered, some songs are longer than single versions ("Don't wanna cry" "You're my sunshine") "SWEET 19 BLUES" is a little bit different from single and album version.

from Ballada; "Dreaming I was dreaming" is the only "remastered" track.
"HimAWArI" , "think of me" and "NEVER END" are the same version as in "LOVE ENHANCED ♥ single collection" but "NEVER END" is 1 minute short to fit in the CD. "I WILL" new mix and short version, and from "Wishing On The Same Star" only the last chorus is missing.

So Namie's 30th anniversary is coming up soon... I wonder if Avex will do anything special for it, with or without her.

Also, does anyone know if Namie's pre-1996 works with Super monkey's were ever released on dvd（太陽のSEASON、STOP THE MUSIC and TRY ME I think had PV's made, but they were owned by Sony and not Avex). If I remember correctly Namie at Sun Plaza '95 was only ever released on VHS and not dvd?

I would love it if they started to release full length PVs on Youtube like they did for Kumi's 20th but unlikely!

The AI idiots are seriously spreading like a virus. I follow Namie hashtag on insta, and there’s this person creating AI generated images of her, from which quite a lot are borderline nudes, or in very suggestive poses and lingerie. They go by therealvoyeur on there.

I swear to god this AI crap is a pervs paradise, and none is doing anything about it. Zero respect to her and her image. The person doesn’t really care about it either, they’re fine with people disagreeing and telling it’s wrong, but they themselves don’t seem to see a problem with it.

I hate this planet more often than I’d like to.

I’ve seen it done with Ayu too but it wasn’t borderline Playboy stuff, like this is. And still I find it really creepy that people think generating images of someone without their knowledge is perfectly fine.

Don't blame the *technology* when its *users* misuse it. And people have historically *always* found ways to use technology in ways it was never intended. And the technology exists now. If you try out outlaw it, it's still going to be in the outlaws' hands.

What's creepy(ier) is when people do it for regular, "ordinary" people. I think most celebrities of superstar status have concluded it's something that comes with the territory (no matter how bad one may think that can be). But everyday folks?

People may not agree with this, but IMO, when your private photos leak out, now you have some plausible deniability that didn't exist before. "That's not me, that's AI-generated".

And as you alluded to, it was happening long before the recent explosion of AI apps.

People always say stuff like this, not to blame the tech or whatever, but I’m gonna blame the tech and it’s availability for that just as much as the people who do it.. If you don’t regulate this crap, it will get out if control. I’m not saying to ban it, I’m saying to put in regulations and things that would make this harder to do and less accessible. It doesn’t matter if it’s a celeb or a regular human, it’s wrong and shouldn’t happen either way. Just because it’s been around doesn’t mean it’s fine. People are so desensitised to things these days they don’t care about anything as long as it doesn’t affect their wellbeing.

I definitely agree with you. I haven't seen what you mentioned on Instagram, but someone on YouTube was using AI to remake her voice... And how disrespectful. If Namie wanted to sing other artists' songs, then she would've released a cover album. People have no shame nowadays.

You can create all sorts of regulations that are intended to let you sleep easy at night, but that's still security theater. History has shown it becomes almost impossible to enforce such regulations in any meaningful way once a technology is out there, no matter how hard you stomp your foot in disagreement. At that stage, regulations only impede those who have a legitimate use for it (like, an artist's own photographer?)

Do you guys know that Namie is gone from Apple Music and some japanese people on X are saying they can't find her on Spotify either? Her Finally Tour and 25th Okinawa albums and her profile picture are gone for me on Spotify too (as of november 15th). Why? :(

Knowing Avex they will do some nonsense as deleting all of their discography all of sudden and reupload it months later with reseted listening counts lol

Even if there was some rights issue with her older songs, she owns everything from 2013 onwards so there shouldn't be a problem with any of those.

Her YouTube being wiped without any warning is a huge mystery too. I remember when she first announced her retirement, her YouTube being deleted was part of the plan and they gave a warning as to when it'd be deleted. But due to immense pleading by fans, they decided to keep it open. So it's really strange that they'd just suddenly wipe everything without warning this time.

That's still such a strange thing to do even if it's true.

Yeah, this is quite strange. My guess is that at her retirement there was a five year contract or something in place and now it has lapsed. Very, very strange that it's not renewing immediately and whatnot. Though, maybe they are renogotiating all contracts?? Could be a positive thing becuase if you notice anytime clips shows try to show Namie it's almost exclusively from concert footage. Like there's something wonky with the rights to her tv performances as well.
