It's flying-get-day for the Summer of '21 single!
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/6...924/aU7c5J.jpg Pic thanks to KK93 on Twitter https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/6...923/q04oL5.jpg Pic thanks to @s_chan_LiSAkko on Twitter https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/6...923/VbWDSn.jpg https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/6...922/cGl6Rw.jpg The three digital single covers are included as jacket size cards in the single. ------------------------------------ Kuu's skincare brand Hemmy K. is now officially available on amazon! Looks like it's doing well. https://rhythmzone.net/koda/news/detail.php?id=1094155 Btw. the Hemmy K. staff shared on Insta where the name is coming from. It's derived from the name of the first queen of Japan, Himiko, who reigned over the first Japanese state Yamatai from the Yayoi till the Kofun time period. |
|
cute
|
The cover and tittle of the single are not the best, but the packaging makes it look good. Never saw anything like that.
|
the back would have been a better cover.
|
I just got it! the cd it's inside the LP type package! that's so hot!

to be free is a very summery and quiet song, like a summer evening.
The verses are great! Composer is T-SK, lyrics by Kuu. T-SK did OMG as well e.g. So all three songs of this single are written by Japanese. (ok, WBO had an international team, but the main composer is Japanese with Atsushi Shimada ) |
Quote:
to be free is my favorite song from this project, can't wait for the mv tomorrow. ♥ |
Pretty much every picture from this project would be a better cover than the actual one.
I'm waiting for the PV to listen to the new song, which seems to be just a beauty shot and I don't mind. |
|
The song is cute, but it kinda goes nowhere? It sounds like a demo that is missing the final part, it's just: verse 1, chorus, verse 2, repeat chorus. The lyrics are very nice tho.
As for the composers, this is the complete list: T-SK, ADAM YARON, Imad Eljattari, Luigi Nabuurs, Pascal Oorts. Overall SUMMER OF '21 (argh, what an awful name...) is a solid single, but of all of her summer singles it's one of the weakest. 4 hot wave = 4 TIMES > FREAKY > Gossip Candy = 3 SPLASH > HOTEL > Summer Trip > MOON = SUMMER OF '21. Eh Yo / Summer Time / DO ME would be a better summer single. As for that matter even XXKK / Lucky Star / puff would be a better single. |
Overall I agree with Kaled about the song, feels like something is missing. The video is okay, not bad but not great either, but I'm glad they shot it.
Now I'll be looking forward to that new video with the dance routine, wonder if a OMG ~episode II~ is coming up |
Quote:
So I wonder how much the others actually did. I'd love to get OMG II with a proper dance routine and a video. Or another Is This Trap?, T-SK wrote that song as well. |
T-SK most likely reworked the original demo and produced the final song considering he's the only one from UFCreators there, but it's hard to know. I like most of his work, overall we got a lot of good songs with him involved, XXX, SHOW ME YOUR HOLLA, OMG, DO ME, IS THIS TRAP and so on. It's a pity that to be free is missing something extra imo.
One thing good is that the song is very clear, I saw someone comparing this to No One and I still can't enjoy that song from how weirdly noisy it is. |
Yes, it's hard to tell, but I think if it's demos Kuu bought and reworked, the original record company of the composers/producers is listed in the credits (just like with covers).
Here's a quick example with SHUTOUT/ Livin' La Vida what I mean: Spoiler:
"Original" songs (non-demo) written for and with Kuu don't have that. All T-SK songs are among that. UFC has a couple of Swedish writers in their team, so might be they also write together with non-UFC composers as freelancers. DO ME e.g. was written by T-SK and Hiromi (both UFC) and a third person. And there are Swedish and Nordic composer teams writing for the Asian market/ Asian artists only. And yes, if it wasn't clear already, he is one of my favourites, too! :laugh |
To Be Free debuts at #7 on Recochoku daily chart and #19 on Line streaming daily chart.
Nice to see the song doing well! |
Amazon Music Japan promoting to be free in Shibuya
https://twitter.com/KODAKUMINET/stat...98621585219584 |
Does anyone have the instrumentals of We'll Be OK, DBDB & to be free?
|
To be free is is one of the very few songs I love from her in the past 10 years. HUSH is the only other one that stands out in my mind (maybe 1-2 more if I really think on it but nothing top of mind for me).
This song is super chill and yet feels complete. It’s the kind of song you put on to relax, sit down, have a drink, watch the sun. It’s cleansing. |
Thank you for keeping this thread alive!!!
|
I mean, 207 threads are sure something, even though I'm new to this board I'm pretty sure more than half of them were of fans fighting each other disagreeing about something she did lol
|
I think the user meant people still being active here.
And I agree! I'm grateful for everyone still caring, responding, telling stories... I really appreciate getting in contact with fellow fans! :) I checked with Japanese fans and Kuu did say in the stream the making of would be on the single ( or better she asked her staff live). Looks like a misunderstanding, it's not on it. Kuu shared a first glimpse of her promo for Aveaute on Insta. According to her we still have to wait a bit till we get it: https://www.instagram.com/p/CTlOlzUJ...dium=copy_link |
Maybe there will be a making-of on the album and she mixed it up? I mean, probably it's shot, pretty sure they always shot a bit of whatever she does, but not always releasing (or editing) it.
I love it how when we are close to an announcement I usually dream of her making one, and that was tonight lol Well, it was more of a teaser, she just dropped a giant black mosaic on her insta feed and in the middle you could read "QUEENDOM" :laugh It's an odd title for her imo since she already has an album named "Kingdom" but I'd still dig it (especially if it's another visual album lol) |
You're subconscious seems to be influenced by Red Velvet! :P
But yeah, because of her mentioning it, we certainly know now, that a making of exists. :laugh Talking about making ofs... the making of of the Killer monsteR PV included in the EP making of on the FC version, was done like for something like MTV's Making the video, even down to the run time (seperated in parts with themed questions and so on). I wonder why it wasn't used for that in the end. I surely would have wanted that for all the PVs of the EPs. :laugh Ah, yeah, Kuu shared this yesterday in her stories: https://www.instagram.com/p/CTwt5U9l...dium=copy_link https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/6...924/CuICsM.jpg That's Rui Machida, one of the star players of the Japanese basketball team. They won Silver at the Olympics and she scored an Olympic record in the semi-final. She's a big Kuu fan. Explains now, why Kuu's music was played in the basketball arena at the Olympics or being used for TV broadcast. :laugh |
^ This is so cool!! We are really seeing a new generation of artists, athletes and such who are not only fans of hers but also grew up being fans, it really makes me happy and probably makes Kuu as well!
|
Oh man, she's coming for our money.
All Time Best album coming December 6th! The title is not yet decided. Quote:
3CD+DVD Price: 5,000 yen (excluding tax), 5,500 yen (including tax) Fan club and mu-mo store limited edition 8CD+3Blu-ray Specifications: luxury box, personalized plate *only RZC1-77460~7/B~D Price: 16,000 yen (excluding tax), 17,600 yen (including tax) Fanclub Orders with the special plate go until September 30th There will be some special inclusions as well. |
I’ll need to wait until the content is revealed To properly judge it but it seems kinda pointless to me.
|
It's funny, at some points they call it All time Best, at some only a Best album.
I have hoped to be past that... not to mention All time Bests are stupid for an artist still being active and alive. At least the editions are reasonable priced. |
Interesting that the regular edition comes as DVD but the FC/mu-mo comes as Blu-Ray.
Maybes since the regular version doesn't include all the singles that's why they go back and forth calling it "best" and "all time best"? |
Yeah, most probably because it can also mean "anytime" in Japanese, and that's what they refer to here.
Hope the special stuff will be great - but with her rehearsing that new song e.g. I assume it will be for me. |
I hope she does some TV promotion for this release. Her first real BEST project since 2010 deserves good promotion!
|
Oh my QUEENDOM is coming!!! :laugh :laugh :laugh
I am glad I skipped the FC photobook cause this is an expensive release but I need it so bad lol But whats exactly that name plate? Is it a car plate? lol Also I hope the FC version includes more than just actual singles cause songs like show girl and UNIVERSE need to be in that. Can we hope for rare content? Never released before live footage or demos and scrapped songs? Cause I am :P -edit- So I listed her a-sides from physical releases, left out tracks that didnt make it to the album even if they had videos and ended up with 78 tracks: Spoiler:
Not sure how they'll treat the meaning of peace, WON'T BE LONG and Futari de..., but overall that was it. So, if they put 12 tracks in each FC disc, there's still room for 18 more tracks. I am not sure what they'll do with her digital singles from re(CORD) but those were nine, and there three last year, so still room for 6 tracks. I feel like there won't be album tracks now lol It's a pity if so tbh cause songs like flower and KAMEN are so forgotten even by Kumi herself, so many album tracks deserved more than those... |
girl, me streaming koda kumi all day is enough, not paying a million dollars on that, might buy a Taiwan version for the regular edition though
|
WHOA! 8 CDS!!! I don't know if I will be able to buy it T T
|
@Gustavo
It's the All Singles Best she teased in January 2020 already. Singles from TAKE BACK till XXKK (so 92 songs altogether without mop and WBL). They probably simply pushed it back for a year and it was originally planned to be released December 6th 2020. The description directly mentions TAKE BACK, Ai no Uta and XXKK. Fans sre already calling it 20th anniversary best album. Which it is. The actual interesting thing will be how many songs are going to be on those two versions in total, if there are going to be new songs as well or maybe just a new song through video and what else they include. EDIT: Ok, it was December 2019 when she teased it, lol. Gonna include it again: https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/8...923/OqAaDJ.png |
Unless it's a FINALLY situation with re-recording (which I highly doubt) the only interesting thing for me is the Blu-Ray because we might get good upscale PVs. Let's pray for not another compilation of lives with comments like the pointless MY NAME IS... release.
|
I recall that best but I mean if it was postponed and she released new songs why not include even one? lol A friend of mine thinks maybe the SO21 songs will be on a new studio album which will come out later. I just hope she doesnt pull another double release thing, this one is already way too expensive :P
|
@Kaled:
It's music videos. The description of the CD shops like Rakuten reveal it for the regular edition Quote:
|
a monday? its gonna bomb the charts (as if it werent already)
|
^ I don’t picture it selling a lot. Times have changed since the 10s.
I also think that excluding the newer songs means an original album might be coming sometime next year. |
Quote:
Well, if it's all music videos and single tracks without new stuff, why not releasing the tracklist already? idk I'm expecting maybe new/re-recorded videos and songs at least. I was gonna say videos for songs without them but then almost all her singles have videos, except for flower lol It was so cool when Namie shot videos for old songs in Ballada but if Kuu is picking only singles this wouldnt make sense. |
Not having very high hopes for the new best album & 3 CDs is definitely not enough to summarise Kuu's long music career :@
Also doesn't mean the best album is released on a Mon means it will do poorly but you never know V6's final studio album STEP was released 2 Sat's ago but the album was made available as per norm on a Tue ie. on normal Flying Get day at CD stores and it still got #1 on Oricon overall |
Oh, this is so exciting! It would be lovely if this BEST was her own version of "Finally", getting some re-records and enough new tracks to work as a new full album, but how possible is that? :(
I'm very curious about the tracklists, especially the 8CD one, she released so many singles and multiple a-sides, it shall be a feast! ahahaha And I wonder how they are going to handle her digital singles? If they pick them all, we'll basically get the re(CORD) album again! My singles playlist on iTunes including all the a-sides (even the ones that didn't make the album like Boys♡Girls and Futari de...) and the digital singles we got for W FACE, re(CORD) and angeL/monsteR up to XXKK (XXKK being the 95th song on it) has 6½ hours, enough to fit them all in 6 discs: Disc 1: affection to secret Disc 2: BEST ~first things~ and BEST ~second session~ Disc 3: Black Cherry to TRICK Disc 4: UNIVERSE to JAPONESQUE Disc 5: Bon Voyage to DNA Disc 6: (re)CORD and angeL/monsteR So there's still a lot of space left for other songs! We might get some b-sides too? :luv2 |
If I counted correctly it's 90 PVs for singles/a-sides.
So around 1,5 hours for 3 Blu-Rays or about 2,15 hours if they put all of them on 2 Blu-Rays. Enough room left to put something different on there (similar with the CDs, with 8 there would be enough space). With her history of FC releases, it will be something valuable, at least for most fans. |
Oh, I do hope we get something special on the blu-rays too even though I have no idea what it could be ahahah Does she still have any unreleased concert? I only hope we won't get another "live selection" again :(
|
Her live tours have all been released so far, and in part we have the second session release party and 2013 Taiwan live, some random a-nation performances. Unreleased lives there were a few, like some release events she did, universal japan lives and such. There is some stuff but nothing too much gasp-worthy imo lol Nice surprised could actually be some festivals she took part overseas but I'm not expecting that at this point.
|
Oh noes! So we'll end up with some "live selection" of sorts if they have enough space left :no ahahahah It would be nice to have so unreleased or rare lives, like ayu did with the extra content on A BALLADS 2, or PVs that were never released (looking at you, Heat :P)
|
If she really wants to bring something special it could be her first concert, the one that was briefly shown in the interlude of MNI Tour. From that interlude alone we see that she has the backlog for her club performances as well, so there's a lot of content that could be included, but might not be because of the quality or whatever reason. I wouldn't even care if it was all recorded with one angle, that content is gold.
Or the a-nation performances, but that's one of the cases that I hardly imagine it happening. Not even Beach Mix got new footage, the ones that were unreleased were shown on TV but not released on the DVD officially. There are also the two Exceptional Hawaii Trip concerts. |
Please, Kuu! Include some old content like Heat PV!!!
|
kinda funny how i literally have a "Kuu - ALL TIME BEST" playlist on apple music since last december and now we got this…
Also i wonder if the new songs and the new video will be on it with more songs, cause she was in the studio A LOT. except she did some re-recordings. |
3 Cds seems so smalll compared to the 8! what they packing? could be her whole discography? + collabs? not including remixes unless... I mean I dunno. But the 3 cds? it's just going to be sinlges.
I'm happy for this release hopefully they'll promote it good! I don't expect anything outstanding to happen I just wish they really don't mess up the covers as they did for the latest release. hopefully it¡s going to be remastereds new vocals or something, cause they could just do a spotify playlist and neither they or us would waste or time or money! |
I think we getting 12 songs per CD and not 21
|
I'm listening to the singles playlist now and, wow, how lucky we were to witness the 12 single project coming to life. Sometimes I forget how good those songs/PVs are and how nicely the whole project was handled, and it was a very bold project! It's still a highlight in her almost 21-year career, she really did that! :love
|
What if this is the album in which she includes So fever and it’s PV? It would be the first time and it deserves more attention
|
Quote:
but those covers, as much as I love them, aged kinda bad. She is sort-of black-facing on one of them and all in all they are rather on a more controversial side from todays point of view. |
They were a product of a time where it wasn't seen as a problem, but the overall project was done with good taste so I don't see much of a problem with it. Would a concept like this fly nowadays? Hell no, but looking back I don't think any of the portraits were bringing a bad light to any culture or trying to be one dimensional, I don't personally see as a mockery or stereotype of different cultures, but obviously I can't speak for everyone. We also have to remember that it was pretty much a cultural exchange world, with the beginning of the internet and all, so getting to know other cultures by things like that was very common. To be honest the Shake It Up cover was one of the first pictures that I saw of her and it made me interested in getting to know her, it was a good representation of one of the sides of brazilian culture.
It's weird that this feels like such an american concept, being offended by someone being interested in your culture. I can understand when it deals with religion and ancestry imagery, but when it's a general concept I just can't see as a problem at all. But anyway. Back do the ALL TIME BEST, if we compare the number of BD discs with Ayumi's A CLIP BOX BD, she had 100 tracks (from all different sizes since she has promotional clip instead of PVs for some songs) in 4 discs. So having 90+ PVs filling 3 discs is to be expected, and besides of some surprises I wouldn't expect something more than PVs, but who knows. Maybe TV CMs from the albums. |
Quote:
|
I guess I'd be more excited about that best if it would actually compile all of her PVs of the 20 years in good quality, not only her singles.
Right now I expect her single PVs and maybe 1-2 new/old unreleased videos or makings or something. The CDs will probably have more surprises. And now with this announcement I suspect the day long shooting with the long straight hair first and then the pale pink dress to be the best album shooting, cover and booklet! |
Quote:
Thought the same (To me, promotional songs from albums are kind-of singles too). I just noticed my FC membership expired. Thinking of renewing it just for this. Until when do i need to order? |
we better have girls selfish on it, or i'll strike
|
If we go by technicality Selfish, 24 and SHAKE IT are part of the DVD single girls ~selfish~, so we can hope at least the PVs are there for the BD. SHAKE IT was one of the few videos that didn't make to her youtube channel. Getting all the PVs on BD would be great, even if it were only the PVs prior to Bon Voyage, but I doubt it will include much more than the singles.
As for album tracks/b sides that might be there on the CD,I think we might see: girls, Lady Go, UNIVERSE, LOADED, IS THIS TRAP. And for unreleased PVs, NEVER GIVE IT UP and SO FEVER happen without anyone knowing about them, at least Kimi Omoi we knew she was filming something and she even shared some pictures with the FC, so she might have more videos somewhere we have no idea about it. |
I always forget the songs from girls ~Selfish~ were singles lol Well, Selfish was included in BEST ~first things~ so it should make it to this selection, even if it's the only track they add.
I would love to see an extended video for Star, it makes no sense to me that they had all that set-up only to shot Kumi for half of it :P I never quite understood that... Wonder if there were more scenaries and they scrapped them... btw Star is an incredibly underrated song, I hope that in the making of this album Kumi came across older gems and will give them some attention on her next tour. Speaking of which, do you guys think there will be a live tour to support this compilation next year? Even if it's a short one, I would love her to do so. |
Quote:

@Gustavopc I also love Star, the First Things 2005 performance is great. It's hard to know if it had more scenes because you can't see anything else from the making of, but I wonder if they had plans to make the PV more related to the tie-in (it was a song for the Nintendo DS game Urusei Yatsura: Endless Summer). It would make sense since the opening of the game shows Lum coming to Earth and all. I wouldn't be surprised if it was going to be a mix between anime and her few scenes sitting by the window. We all know she loves Urusei Yatsura, and ended up having a collab for Suki de a couple of years ago, also COLOR OF SOUL almost went the anime route, so who knows.

I guess I’m trying to say is I wonder how they would market it differently so it’s not so similar the best single collection. |
Last chance to get the XXKK FC box, for those who might want to order!
Preorder went till September 16th, but Kuu just posted there are some boxes left, so they extended the preorder period till Monday, September 20th! Or till the rest of the boxes is gone. Actually I only saw that preorder is not only quantity but also time limited by chance visiting the FC shop. Usually FC stuff is not time limited, just with quantity. The standing fans from the talkshow tour are gonna be sold online starting September 18th as well. |
no one is buying that lol
|
Quote:
|
Yeah, me too, really looking forward to it!
Much more than to the best album actually. :P |
Quote:
You already saw that for her 1st digital fanclub kuji & I never thought a kuji can get sold out , let alone twice O_o |
She could be releasing only to her fanclub and still make a living. Well, it’s basically what she’s doing now anyway.
|
Quote:
I kind already made up my mind to buy the 8CD best-of although i don't even need it. To be fair - among the JPop Artists she is probably the one with the best packages, deals and merch. Designs are hit or miss on a personal level but i would definitely buy something at every event. That said, I think there is much more creative room to everything (especially when you compare it to Kpop packaging - I bet she could pull those of too). |
^ Corvina shared a great list here, basically another bonus book and a calendar.

I feel like last year they were testing the waters with MNI... CD release, it was limited but sold out very fast so I'm not surprised that the decision has been made to put out a proper single collection. |

if I had the money i'd probably buy the beauty book and the 8cd version I know it's going to be really beautiful and high quality! I'll see what Ic an doo!

Looking forward to the tracklist reveal!
|
Kuu was announced as one of the artists participating in the SPEED tribute album that will be released on November 11th.
It’s the group’s 25th anniversary and it’s said to be covers of their “soulful” songs. It doesn’t seem like they have announced what song she will be covering yet. https://rhythmzone.net/koda/news/detail.php?id=1094420 |

Quote:
|
I could see her channeling her affection era for that!
|
Pre-ordered my all time best yesterday, praying I do not regret it :P
Nice to see her taking part in another tribute album, I love how she always hops onto those lol Would love avex to do her a tribute album someday as well btw Also, where is the info about Blank Paper?? ]: The anime comes out in the first week of October iirc I hope they dont expect the song to be a hit without a spotify acc or an instagram or even a note on the band's existence lol |
Nice! I hope is Body & Soul.
|
Hoping for Steady.
|
Kuu will be featured as a talk guest in the next month's 2021 FNS Kayousai Aki that will be aired on 6th Oct
This will be the 1st Autumn related broadcast since Fuji TV began broadcasting FNS Kayousai 48 years ago Unlike the usual FNS Kayousai Natsu & year end organised FNS Kayousai , next month's will mainly focus in VTR footages and only 2 studio live performances will be featured The hosts for 2021 FNS Kayousai Aki are once again ARASHI's Aiba & Nagashima Yumi https://twitter.com/KODAKUMINET/stat...70190634856450 https://twitter.com/fns_kayousai/sta...90372451045376 |
Looks like Kuu will have an online live on November 7th. Seems to be a tie-in with Nissin:
https://twitter.com/kazunosuke935/st...21573297246212 |
Now that's unexpected lol Guess it'll be a mix of talking and some simple performances? Nissin is huge, that seems so peculiar
|
Too bad the pic doesn't show the whole flyer, but from what I can read, you can apply for the live by buying Nissin products in the period of Monday, September 27th, till Sunday, October 15th and uploading your receipt through an app till October 17th.
So if this is starting this coming Monday, we should get official info this weekend! Ah, yeah, the flyer also says 500 people will be selected for the live. I suppose those are able to attend it, the rest will have to stream. Would be a bit weird to do an online live for 500 people only. |
Alright, info is out!
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/8...923/2oDp3t.jpg Online live on Sunday, November 7th, 7 p.m. - 08:30 p.m.. 1,5 hours consisting of a live performance and after talk with some special content. Kuu is going to sing popular songs that haven't been performed for a while. Fans can also request songs she's going to put in the setlist. Regular tickets cost 3,500 Yen. Premium tickets go for 7,000 Yen, including digital money to throw ( "ultra cheer"), a digital photoset ( via mail address) and a chance to win stuff through a lottery. The Nissin campaign gives 500 people the chance to watch for free! The live stream is handled through Nissin's power station website, tickets available there: https://nissin-ps.com/live/detail/2805c0ba Stream will be available to watch till November 14th. |
Very nice! And specially good that it will be available for a week. I couldn't find a sample to see if it works outside Japan, but I don't see any warning that it doesn't.
Gonna buy the ticket when it's a little closer to the performance, can't wait! |
I quickly checked and you need a telephone number to register on the site.
So sadly not international fan friendly... Ok , it worked with my German telephone number, though I have no idea if streaming will work outside of Japan. It's not mentioned on the site. |
There is one free concert (https://nissin-ps.com/live/live/d8a90c55) and it's playing alright in here, so it will probably be available outside Japan. But take that at your own risk.
Even recording the video was alright, so yay! |
Summary of the live and campaign:
https://imagizer.imageshack.com/v2/8...922/P3kmda.jpg Kuu says she's currently thinking about the setlist and plans to add about 2 more songs to it! |
I think 7 to 10 tracks is a reasonable setlist size. It's an hour and half show, which I think it means a 1 hour concert, 10min break as it is stated, and 20min after talk maybe? Anyway, I'm excited about it. The more the merrier.
|
Quote:
|
dude her ballads are like 10 min
|
|
Was thinking that as well.
It's probably going to be more like 12-15 songs in the setlist, unless she's doing the talk for half the time (which I doubt, being an after-talk). |
