Unimatrix Prime™ 31st December 2003 04:48 AM

I wouldn't think that Ayu was a Linkin Park fan just by looking at her, but I guess Ayu's full of surprises :laugh !

ruixiong89 31st December 2003 06:21 AM

Yup, I agree with US being a country looked up a lot to by the Japanese. I suppose one of the only flags that are a fashion statement is the US flag! It's quite international. Judging by the way Japanese like English so much (even having Katakana to make out English words), it's no wonder Ayu herself likes them too.

I think Ayu's like most of us too. We don't understand what Ayu is singing but it's just nice. I have got no opinions on Ayu's choices, I mean afterall, it's her choice and style. Definitely, she would like J-pop as well, music from her counterparts but maybe it's not her "hype" at the moment.

Perhaps her music might be more inclined towards songs by those artistes, who knows (and I do like them too, haha, they sound great). I think everyone shouldn't settle for this list that Ayu likes, it changes over time. Kkz ... :D

rainbow_momiji™ 31st December 2003 06:24 AM

Christina Aguirela "Stripped"...i love..

Kaiousei 31st December 2003 09:36 AM

wow her taste in music is really good, i hope she writes more music that resembles those artists. for example, the ourselves PV resembling christina's fighter PV

sxesven 31st December 2003 04:53 PM

Linkin Park =_= ai.

Sting n Joan Osborne are ok tho!

akatsuki 31st December 2003 05:06 PM

thx for the info. i like Linkin Park toooo

stephymoo 31st December 2003 05:43 PM

Wow, that's really interesting. She has quite a broad taste in music. Linkin Park was kinda surprising, though, I would never have expected that. And yay! She likes No Doubt (one of my fave US bands ^^)!

Yes, that is one of my pet peeves as well. That question drives me nuts.

t.a.t.u's show me love is the well known one

miruku 2nd January 2004 10:19 AM

thanx for the info

AyuTrance 2nd January 2004 03:39 PM

cool choices...
not bad at all...n she's not sticking to RnB like she used to..
that's good..

Delirium-Zer0 3rd January 2004 05:31 AM

Wow, ayu has pretty broad taste ^^ definitely explains her multi-genre style. This list is a pleasant surprise ^^ I feel kinda out of the loop though, I haven't heard these Joan Osborne or Sting albums yet, but I do enjoy both artists (Joan's first album "Relish" is still one of my favorites, and I'm a long-time sting fan)

PinkSock 3rd January 2004 07:48 AM

wowies! ayu has a broad taste for music!
I can understand it all being american... I mean... after all, most of my favs are japanese!

America is not 'cool' in Japan anymore, the country which the Japanese have been idolising for the past two years is the U.K. You see, when Japan was a relatively poor country, America was it's role model, a kind of indicator of how they might one day be like if they worked hard. So they did. And they prospered. Prospered so much in fact, that Japan became so undeniably rich, the streets were practically paved with gold (families would throw away perfectly good household appliances in favour of more advanced and up-to date models). Japanese wages were the highest in the world and an industrialised country, there was none of the grime or dirt apparent coming from factories. Streets were safe, clean and on the whole, early everything was of a higher standard than the States. So when, the Japanese finally visited the States, they were appalled, to see that the ENTIRE country didn't look like a plush neighbourhood out of Beverly Hills, poverty was rampant, crime was disgraceful, the education system was bad, etc, etc. Even when Japan was at it's economic height, the people STILL thought Americans were better off. They didn't know that the Americans in general had it worse. And they were desulsioned with the place. So they turned to other cultures. The U.K. is what's IN now, David Beckham is enormously popular with Japanese girls (and some boys) and British based popstars are the norm. The balance is more equal now, Japan is nowhere near as wealthy as before, although it is still a long way ahead of the U.S. in terms of development in key areas (education, life expectancy, income, etc.etc) but today, you are more likely than before to find more deragotory comments against Americans than ever before.

Ayashiku Lady 3rd January 2004 02:46 PM

Ayu likes Linkin Park? I swear Meteora came in my mind when I heard the instrumental of Because of You (mainly the guitars)! ^^

And about all being American songs... I think not only the US, but the western culture in general is 'cool' for young people in Japan.
Of course US have an influence there, like in the whole world.

That would explain why I see so many UK flags appearing in Japanese pop culture. I double-checked some of the facts you stated, about Japan overtaking the US in terms of some developmental areas, and you are correct. You can check out the CIA world factbook for more info

Oh, Ayu please don't like Linkin Park. Ugh *cringe* Horrible. And Xtina . . . Oh well.

No Doubt and Sting are pretty good though. I can't think of any Joan Osborne songs. The name sounds familiar but I am blaming the Nyquil for drawing a blank.

I need sleep . . . .

Zacek 5th February 2006 07:09 AM

Great! I love Joan Osborne too!
