Ayus Breakthru song?

im curiouse... which of Ayus song really got her fame started? liek u knwo how some artists come out with a few crappy songs then theres just one song that sparks it all?

was it evolution or something? or was she just always considered a superstar? :think

Coelacanth 6th April 2004 11:41 PM

Boys & Girls? I'm not sure...

I started loving her very late...

tl1029530921 6th April 2004 11:42 PM

she was pretty famous ever since ASFXX...so prolly ASFXX(the song)..???

Unimatrix Prime™ 6th April 2004 11:42 PM

Evoultion might've been one of her most well-known songs, but perhaps something like "You", "To Be", or "Boys & Girls" was one of the songs that got people talkin' about her ;)

appears 6th April 2004 11:50 PM

omg, the ayu boom started way b4 evolution...
she failed to set the world alight with her first few singles, althou A Song for XX sold well, im not entirely sure on stats, but ithink it got to number1 on oricon at least...
LOVE~Destiny~ was the first of her singles 2 get 2 number1, but then it was Boys&Girls which proved her first million-seller..(most probably due 2 the fact it had 10tracks [pretty revolutionary for a mainstream artist] but undeniably the tune itself does kick ass...)
within a month, her next release was a quadruple-side 14track maxi single, shifting over 1,500,000copies in total [possibly due to the release of 7different versions of it?! :p] but ever since then, ayu had landed...

jerms 7th April 2004 12:14 AM

boys & girls, with the "A" songs close behind. than M. lol

it was way after a song for xx, and way before evolution. lol

ImpactBreaker 7th April 2004 12:57 AM

Her third song YOU (being the first and second Poker face and FRIEND) is already awesome enough for a boom in my opinion. I think she already started with great music. And yep it started WAAAAAAY before evolution.

a1strank 7th April 2004 02:07 AM

M....M....M...M...M...M..M..M.................

I heard M first....first I thought it was an "OK" song, after listening to it 3 times. wow it became my favorite song...

Btw lol it's funny that I'm listening to the Mp3 rip of Dome tour she's sining M right now heh

Findlay 7th April 2004 02:15 AM

starting from "Boys & Girls" she was viewed as an idol, before that, ayu was just a debut singer.

AfanforXX 7th April 2004 03:06 AM

yeap, i got with Bright's view. B&G was the first single to sell over a million.

PickleCookies 7th April 2004 03:17 AM

Love~Destiny~ and Boys & Girls

jerms 7th April 2004 03:19 AM

yeah, all those other songs are great, but not "breakthrough"..:rolleyes

ayumi1121 10th April 2004 06:00 AM

the break through one was def. Boys & Girls...it's known for that

CT_Cool 10th April 2004 06:18 AM

i would think a song for xx or boys & girls, but dont found out about ayu pretty l8:think

kournikova 10th April 2004 10:07 AM

her breakthrough song is LOVE ~Destiny~ according to the newspaper in indonesia... :)

TIME Asia also said LOVE~Destiny~ was Ayumi's breakthru song.

kournikova 10th April 2004 04:17 PM

oh ic... that song is very nice :) :D too nice for me... Since LOVE ~Destiny~ she alyways be the 1 :)

fantaisie.sign 10th April 2004 04:44 PM

LOVE ~Destiny~? I agree with Ayumi1121 that Boys & Girls is known for being the breathrough song. If LOVE ~Destiny~ really is the breakthrough one, then Boys & Girls is definately the one that earned her the title "idol."

Corybobory 10th April 2004 08:46 PM

I thought it was Love ~Destiny~

jiayulam 10th April 2004 08:56 PM

I didnt follow her from the beginning.... I got hooked on rainbow and started to listen to her songs backwards. However..... Boys & Girls was the song I liked the most from her old releases.

PickleCookies 10th April 2004 09:16 PM

Love ~Destiny~ was her first #1. That seems pretty breakthrough to me. :D

appears 10th April 2004 09:19 PM

Boys&Girls was the start of the "ayuboom", possibly due to the 10track maxi single format

squirty 10th April 2004 10:02 PM

Yeah, it was LOVE ~Destiny~... I remember, cause that was around the time I started to really get into JPOP.

~K+ 11th April 2004 08:18 AM

LOVE~Destiny~, was her first hit that sold well, after that, 'TO BE' didn't sell that well.

But from 'Boys & Girls' onwards, it was the era of 10track maxis, and she's been topping the charts since then.

miruku 11th April 2004 08:42 AM

emm.. i'm gussing Boys and GIrls

starr5245 11th April 2004 09:39 AM

M is the BEST!!!

PinkSock 11th April 2004 10:19 AM

in my opinion, it was definately Love~Destiny~...
it was her first #1 hit, stayed on the oricon chart for 25 weeks, and was her first single to sell over 500,000 copies.
before that, her singles always sold in the 100,000 range.

[H] 11th April 2004 06:00 PM

I read it in the newspaper in indonesia too that Love ~destiny~ was her breakthru single. Boys&Girls is also a breakthrough one. it sold more than 1 mill copies (well, her first million marked single).

Larisa-chan 11th April 2004 08:26 PM

I always thought it was Love ~Destiny~ <3

Mrs. JD 13th April 2004 12:32 AM

I read in a magazine article on her that she had 28 hit singles (At the time she had only released 28), so I always thought her first single was her "breakthrough" or at least a hit, but I don' know. Before I read that I'd heard LOVE ~Destiny~ was her breakthrough, but yeah, now I'm not sure.

criminal 21st May 2007 04:19 PM

A Song for XX, the album, stayed at the #1 spot for 5 weeks while being mainly promoted by the song of the same name. How can that not be a breakthrough song?

(miss)understood 21st May 2007 05:06 PM

I think several are breakthrough songs

I think M is one of the biggest,
then i think RAINBOW is another.

and after she did ourselves, she began releasing increasingly dark PVs
but i dont know if i count that

I think STEP you was a major hit and it totally hit me by surprise
and ever since ayus been releasing hot new tunes :luv2

mannie 21st May 2007 05:48 PM

Boys & Girls easilyyyyyyy

LOVE ~Destiny~as the #1 breakthrough and Boys & Girls/A as the singles that made her a big idol sounds pretty good to me.

Ayumiko 21st May 2007 08:09 PM

I say a song for xx. The lyrics had impact on some people.

candlize 21st May 2007 08:48 PM

I would also say "Boys & Girls"
While "A Song for xx" and "LOVE ~Destiny~" were very popular hits, I think B&G was definitely the one that gave her the "idol" title and helped her to solidify future popularity.

Ayumi-love 21st May 2007 09:03 PM

I think it's M, the first CREA song and its the song preferred of her fans (according to a classification of Music Station in 2001)
she's passed from the statute of idoole to a true star

candlize 21st May 2007 09:13 PM

Well, in 2001, "M" was also a pretty new song, fresh in fan's minds ;)

Raiu-Ayu 21st May 2007 09:16 PM

Well Trust was ayu's first song to enter the Top 10 (#9) and WHATEVER was the first to enter the Top 5 (#5) but LOVE ~Destiny~ was her first #1

If you're talking about signature songs ayu has a few:
A Song for XX
Boys & Girls
SEASONS
M
evolution
Dearest
and the list could go on forever

candlize 21st May 2007 09:21 PM

I don't think a "breakthrough" can simply be judged by charts alone. There are many artists who reach high positions and quickly fall into obscurity. I really think until "B&G," ayu was just another popular artist.

panda87 21st May 2007 09:26 PM

Boys&Girls... yep yep. that was the song that got me into Ayu and Jpop... it was also when i first heard of Ayu.

She was an idol even before she released any music. But I agree with anyone else, LOVE was her breakthrough, Boys & Girls was the confirmation that she would stay a while. ^_^

Raleigh 21st May 2007 10:53 PM

Yeah I've gotta agree with most people here. "A Song for xx" probably was what brought the attention to Ayu and LOVE was the breakthrough single.

tokyoxjapanxfan 22nd May 2007 12:37 AM

"depend on you" was used in a video game, "Thousand Arms"--i thought this one was the one that really got her noticed. :D not necesarilly getting her popular, but just well known... lol

sora2522 22nd May 2007 12:42 AM

anyone else notice that this thread was from 2004?

On That Day 22nd May 2007 01:01 AM

If your asking about her big hit song, that made her popular, it's Boys&Girls!

bluetiger86x 22nd May 2007 01:46 AM

Definitely Evolution, but a techno remix of it.

I somehow ended up downloading it and kept listening to it over and over. So that's when I discovered Ayumi!

I'm soooooo Happy that I did. I don't know what I'd listen to if it wasn't for her!!

LOVE Ayumi!! =DDD <333

yamogi 22nd May 2007 10:39 AM

She is pretty famous ever since her debut. But it's Boys & Girls that make her become the most popular teen idol. So I guess, Boys & Girls is her breakthrough song.
BTW, it's SEASONS that make her to be the top of female artists and it officially announced the start of her time.

Choyan 22nd May 2007 11:02 AM

LOVE ~Destiny~

All her singles before that did not so well~ XD

ayu_fan929 22nd May 2007 12:47 PM

ASFXX
LOVE ~Destiny~
Boys & Girls

extepan 22nd May 2007 03:28 PM

in terms of charts and sales, love destiny was her breakthrough song. it was her 1st number 1 hit.

sakamoko 23rd May 2007 01:13 AM

I don't know why I always saw in a lot of articles that was "Depend on you" her breakthrough song... O_o (Maybe because those articles was very old... Or maybe "Depende on you" was her best song in her 1st album, according to her fans)

ayumisrael 23rd May 2007 10:18 AM

Depend on you is a breakthrough songs for me!, It's lyrics, composition and arrangament are just perfect. It's the first song of ayu I've ever heard and it made me love her forever and it's my 2nd most fav sog of ayu now (after Fly high).

Rebirthia 23rd May 2007 11:33 AM

i think evolution is her most famous song for overseas, as a first heard song.
