Ayumi Hamasaki DataBank.

Ok so here's an idea I had a few hours ago!....i was bored :tipsy LoL. So as you can see below there is like a index of all things Ayu -very much incomplete-. I was thinking though that maybe one of mods or someone could make this a sticky in the forum -not sure if Ayu-chat is the right place so feel free to move it:)-

So basically the idea is that everyone could post all those interesting little tid-bits they know about Ayu and they could be added to the databank or index or whatever... you know what i mean! Just so that anyone new -or old- to the world of Ayu -and jpop- has a run down of little facts about her! A one-stop-shop if you like! So i'm trying to include lingo like 'engrish' and 'kawaii' for those complete newbies. But still keeping it Ayu specific!

There's still alot missing at the moment as this was just thrown together this morning as a draft copy of sorts, so if any of the info is wrong please feel free to post a correction! This should be as accurate as possible! So what do you all think? good idea.. bad idea?? Feel free to say what you think -i'm a toughie- :D!

Anyways you'll all help right?? I'm sure we could all shock each other with the strange and wonderful facts we know about our idol, so start posting them and they will be added! And dun worry, creds will be given at the bottom of the post for all members that contribute:D!

AOV - Acoustic Orchestra Version. One of Ayu's many series of remix albums is the AOV remix albums I, II, III, & IV. These albums feature remixed versions of her original albums songs, but instead of being remixed in a trance or upbeat style these are toned down and are played with orchestral instruments to acheive a much more classical and laid back feel. Ayumi's voice is often much more prominent on these albums and her vocal skill shines through strongly.

All night Nippon - Radio show Ayu once hosted on 28th Dec 1998. The theme of the show was "Hamasaki Ayumi is not stupid" and during this show Ayu talked a little about her child hood and accepted calls and faxes from the public. A translation of the tranliteration of the interview can be found at Masa's site.

Ankh - Perfume sold by Ayu through her MTRLG fashion label. It comes in a pink bottle in the shape of the egyptian symbol Ankh, the symbol for eternal life. Which is basically just a cross with a loop at the top.

NOTHING from NOTHING - AYUMI's pre-avex single featuring DOHZI-T & DJ BASS released on September 21st, 1995, a few years before she joined avex and debuted with the "poker face" single as "ayumi hamasaki". On December 1st, 1995, an album with the same title was released containing 5 tracks: 2 versions of NOTHING FROM NOTHING, LIMIT, PAPER DOLL and Gut it-pez. The discs were originally released on NIPPON Columbia but have been out of print for a long time and these days sell for outrageous amounts of money on Japanese auction sites. After Ayu rose to fame half a decade later, a small Japanese company re-released the tracks on a disc entitled "The Past of Ayu" (LECL-5501). That brought on a lawsuit from Ayu's current record company, avex trax, and that CD is also gone from the market as a result.

That's pretty cool, but a little correction concerning Boss. Boss isn't a company, rather it's the brand of the coffee Ayu endorsed. The BOSS brand is owned by the company, Suntory.

ayumaria 1st August 2004 11:07 AM

Hey! You forgot to add the most important one!
On the "A" Section:
Ayumi Hamasaki - The one and only No.1 female singer in Japan ! :laugh

Anyway, this is a good idea...let's see what I can contribute later...

I put her under H for Hamasaki Ayumi - the japanese order of her name. I'll make a note about Ayumi being her given name though!

PS if more people feel she should be under A please say so.. I'll change it if this is the majority!:)

Thanks ayumaria all comments apreciated!

Dub Master X
Remixer: Dub Master X
Real name: Izumi Miyazaki
Born: 1963
Nationality: Japanese

Izumi Miyazaki aka Dub Master X is probably Japan's no.1 remixer. After getting a degree as a sound engineer in Tokyo, he got a job as a mixing engineer at the hot spot club "Pithecanthropus". He then joined the dub band MUTE BEAT (other members included Kazufumi "Echo" Kodama, Akihito Masui, Tabayoshi Matsunaga, Hirobumi Asamoto and Gota Yashiki) and they released 5 albums and 5 singles between 1982 and their breakup in 1990, as well as doing live gigs in places like Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York. A personal highlight for Miyazaki came in 1988 when he got to work with the creator of Dub, the late King Tubby.

After MUTE BEAT disbanded, he joined MELON, a project headed by former PLASTICS member Toshio Nakanishi, as an engineer, and toured Italy and England.

Miyazaki also started DJ'ing in 1983, with his base in the club MONK BERRYS in Harajuku, but he was also being hired as a scratcher and engineer for both studio recordings and live events. He was a central figure in the DJ boom in Japan together with Hiroshi Fujiwara, and actually got the reputation of being one of the top artists in the field.

He and Fujiwara then got involved in the remix business, remixing songs for Kyoko Koizumi, a famous singer in Japan. He continued remixing as well as being an engineer and club DJ, and emerged as the leader in his field. In fact, he blazed new trails when he was signed to record label avex trax as a remixer in 1999. He's now viewed as the premier remixer in Japan, having worked with big names like Pizzicato Five, ELT, Namie Amuro, MAX, DA PUMP, DAI, HAL and of course Ayumi Hamasaki. His name-recognition is so wide and his remixes so popular that avex trax released a compilation of his remixes called "Dub's Music Box" (AVCD-11856).

At present, Miyazaki continues to display all his talents as remixer, DJ, musical arranger, producer, recording engineer, P.A. operator & planner, composer, programmer, radio program producer and more. Additionally, Miyazaki's released a few solo albums on Colombia Records under his Dub Master X moniker.

I'm not sure if you'll like this idea but you might want to do this on www.wikipedia.com - it's an online encyclopedia where any one can contribute stuff...there're already some things on Ayu but we could always add more. ;)

Sounds good, but is possible to edit the info after it's been submitted? This index, like I said is very much incomplete, so if it was submitted to this site, someone would need to keep it up to date.
If you would like to upload the 'databank' to this site please feel free to! But, again keep in mind the list will 'hopefully' be much more extensive in the near future so it would need to be updated. In other words, Go for it! But if you do , please keep it up to date ne?:D

arent ALL of her lyrics written byu herself,.O_o?sotsugyou shashin doesnt count cuz its not her song.

I didn't think she wrote the lyrics for 'gut it pez' and 'nothing from nothing' and all those songs.. or did she?:think that's why i said 'more info to come', coz i wasn't sure... anybody know?

Also yeah i was gonna add sotsugyou shashin because it features on one of her albums.. so i thought I should mention it.

ABallads - Ayu's 2nd compilation album, released 12.03.03. Produced by Max Matsuura, included 14 tracks, all lyrics written by Ayumi Hamasaki with the exception of 'Sotsugyou sashin'. No singles released with this album, however there was a PV of the only original song on the album, 'Rainbow'. This album consisted of 12 of her previous songs, some of which were remixed into more ballad-ish type songs. It also included a cover version of 'Sotsugyou sashin' [or 'Graduation picture' in english], which was originally sung by [X]. This album sold [X] copies.
Yumi Matsutoya did the original version of 'Sotsugyou shashin'.

Another one:

The melody for the BOSS theme song is taken from Nat King Cole's song "L-O-V-E."

I disagree. If Rei.. wants I think it would be good to post some of this info there, but I suggest sticking strictly to facts and not posting anything that could be even remotely considered flame bait (e.g. the make-up monster entry :P ).

ayumaria.

I'll find the article I got that from and post it here soon... -gotta sift through a few folders lol-, i'm honestly not sure if they seriously 'hate' each other, I doubt it, but I don't think they're exactly best friends either.

EDIT: here's the article.. my frined email it to me though.. so i'm not sure where she got it from..:shrug?

One's a "made-up monster." The other's just a "monkey." Though sticks and stones may break bones, the name-calling is the most visible salvo in a battle between Japan's past and present queens of pop -- Namie Amuro and Ayumi Hamasaki.

Wars of succession have often been among history's bitterest battles and though Amuro and Ayu were known to take an interest in each other's chart and sales performances, it was believed they were friendly rivals, especially as they both belonged to the same record company.

....

Hamasaki had something of a faux pas last year when she threw a tantrum in front of the Thai queen, but that hasn't halted her momentum in any way.

"Avex (Hamasaki's record label) only survives on the stock exchange thanks to Hamasaki. She accounts for 30 percent of the company's income. Nobody is going to tell her off if she acts like a spoiled brat," critic Yuichi Hirabayashi says. "Hamasaki's often referred to as the shadow personnel manager. She puts her bit in when it comes to how the company acts regarding other performers' promotions or events. One singer said to be on maternity leave has in reality, because of Ayu's input, effectively been sacked."

Hamasaki is said to have turned her attention to Amuro.

"Recently, Hamasaki keeps asking us what the 'monkey' is doing. Amuro made her debut while still a member of the Super Monkeys. At least I think that's where the name came from," Hirabayashi tells Shukan Shincho. "Then again, I suppose Ayu can't stand the thought of being labeled as coming from the same label as a has-been like Amuro. Let's not forget that when Amuro came back from her maternity leave that she called Ayu a 'make-up monster.' With their divergent views on music and lifestyles, there's no way those two could ever get on together."

Hamasaki is also said to be petulant when it comes to her pooches, throwing tantrums if they're not given the royal treatment. But there have been lighter moments.

"An assistant director opened the door of the dressing room and it slammed into one of Ayu's dogs, which gave a terrified yelp. The assistant director threw himself to the floor in a kowtow, turned to the dog and began speaking to it in an honorific-packed, polite form of Japanese, apologizing and asking if it was hurt," the music program source tells Shukan Gendai. "At the time, the assistant director was petrified by how Ayu would react. A little later, though, he'd calmed down and was laughing at himself for having spoken to the dog using the politest form of Japanese possible."

BTW wasn't Ayu supposed to be host a new show? 'FUN' or something..?? what ever happened to that..? :think anybody know?

YesAsia.com - This is where we go to buy Ayu's albums and singles! Here you can buy both Japan and Overseas versions of your fave J/K/C-pop artists latest releases and back catalogue.
If you put YesAsia, you should also put cdjapan, and others... Maybe just in one category (buying online or something like this)

Camille 4th August 2004 03:46 PM

Plus if you add JT, TUKA, KOSE, you should also mention Panasonic (you wrote about it only in CM)

Hope that will help

D is for disabled. Write about the incident in the countdown live where she told the people to stand up.

V is for von dutch, since she wears it often.

L is for Louis Vuitton (spelling??), she always has the bags or custom items.

Make it like the vh1 shoe A2Z with gossip and stuff in it to make it more interesting.

Oh, d is for dogs as well. Rumor has it that she requires dressing rooms for her dogs, and that people use respectful japanese to them.

O_o..thats one hell of a list.. thanx it's brilliant really, although actually i'm not really sure what i'm gonna do about all these remixers... there's just so many of them. Really this list is supposed to be about Ayu although i know the remixers play abig part in her career and i know they need to be mentioned.. it's just if i were to add them all under they're respective names, the list would be so cluttered I think it'd be hard to find Ayu info LoL.

There's a couple ideas i had though i could either...
a.) put them under R for Remix and just add the complete list of people who have remixed for Ayu and 1 or 2 examples of songs.

or

b.) like i've sorta done already -i plan on modifying these though- just include they're names under the Ayu-trance/Ayu-mi-x/Ayu-ro-mix headings.

or

c.)...Suggestions are very welcome here so what do you all think I should do?

she told disabled people to stand up????O_o..must be she didn't know the couldn't.. r u sure they were disabled???

Thanks for Von dutch and LV i'm compiling a F for Fashion heading at the moment they can go under that one :yes

and yeah i wanna include 'gossip' and stuff.. but only things that can be backed up and that i have some kinda resource for.. i dun wanna write false rumors and things about Ayu.. Hopefully i'll find out more interesting stuff as i go along! just trying to get at least the basic facts up before i get into these things though.. ^_^ Thanx for you're suggestions!

Some other things. I don't know if they weren't mentioned before, but...
A (with m.c.A.T) her first song in Avex?
Idol on Stage (performances: Get out of my life, Raspberry dream, heart de shoubu performed with Rieko Miura, Moon, Mizuiro no koi, Hold On Me - I don't know if they're all correct so someone: please check) her debut

Hope that will help

MedJohn 30th August 2004 04:37 AM

All lyrics are by her~
well, lyrics of LOVE ~Destiny~ was written by her
but LOVE ~since 1999~ wasn't by her. Anyway, I won't count it as ayu's song...

the proper title is sumomo mo mo

and that 'terima kasih' thing
is just a postcard, i think

because 'terima kasih' means 'thank you' in bahasa indonesia
'thank you' usually is in front of a postcard right?

that's what i think

THe song she wrote specially for tomoya the song that she declared her relationship
and it has the most number of live performance. I think it's 28.

Dearest has the most number for live performances?
hmmm, i always think the 'encore songs' like independent, Trauma, flower garden or Who... would get the most number
because she always sing those songs in almost evry concert, right?

but i dunno, that's my opinion...

Ok... Today I add info about 3 new PVs to PV list which I posted in this thread some times ago :)
You can see this here

I'll add also info about new remixes and remixers soon...

Qt Mashi 20th December 2004 02:56 PM

you should add in the 'N' section where she released an album called "Nothing from Nothing" in 01-12-95 and 1 single called Nothing from Nothing

Nothing from Nothing is a rap album featuring other rap artists, Dohzi-T and DJ Bass which she stopped doing in the end of 1995.

ImpactBreaker 20th December 2004 05:02 PM

I haven't seem any info on NOTHING from NOTHING so I decided to write something. Sorry if there was already info on it . EDIT: Ah QT Mashi beat me ahhahah :laugh

----------------------------------------
NOTHING FROM NOTHING - AYUMI's pre-avex single featuring DOHZI-T & DJ BASS released on September 21st, 1995, a few years before she joined avex and debutted with the "poker face" single as "ayumi hamasaki". Contains 3 tracks: NOTHING FROM NOTHING, the KARAOKE version and PAPER DOLL. On December 1st, 1995, an album with the same title was released containing 5 tracks: 2 versions of NOTHING FROM NOTHING, LIMIT, PAPER DOLL and Gut it-pez. The style of the album is completely different from her actual style, mainly featuring rap with japanese mixed with english lyrics. While not an impressive work it still has a high value to her fans who are interested in listening to ayu rapping and how her voice sounded back then.

*huggles everyone* Thanx so much guys for all your entries!

I've updated a little with some of the stuff you guys suggested and I'll add the rest tommorow ^_^'' I'm getting sleeepy now LoL

dominika842000 thanks for the info on the new PVs i can never seem to keep up with these things lol ><!

~angel*ayumi~ OMG u really are an angel!! thanx so much for all that info!!

QT Mashi - lol absolutely everything helps ^__^v Thankyou for helping out! It's much apreciated!

ImpactBreaker I've added your description just as it is, but I also added a little more info on the end that I found at hamasaki republic.org. I hope you don't mind!! Thans for such a detailed description, it makes this databank thing so much more accurate :yes

BTW I also added a new section at the bottom of my original post dedicated to all the articles/fansites etc that people have made, cause I don't think a databank could ever really be complete without all those sorts of things.
I've only put a few in so far, but hopefully add lots more tommorow. So if any of you know any cool fansites just lemme know and i'll add all them eventually.

Anyways I'm falling asleep at the keyboard here, and have probably made a million typos LoL i'll fix 'em up tommorow. Thanx again guys.

This is awesome!!! It'd be great if you could add a section for random Ayumi facts that some people may not know! I've got a good one:

Ayu Factoid #1: "A Song for XX" is pronounced "A. Song for" the 'XX' seems to be censoring out a name.

SALES

Okay, I'm such a single and album sales geek. This information is from the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ) website. The data here is certainly more reliable than those on the Oricon and Planet Chart websites, since those two charts stop counting sales numbers after the single or album has dropped out of their respective charts. The only problem is the RIAJ website is not comprehensive :( The success of singles and albums are only recorded as:

gold (at least 100,000 copies sold)
platinum (at least 250,000 copies sold)
double platinum (at least 500,000 copies sold)
triple platinum (at least 750,000 copies sold)
million (at least a million copies sold)

and so on and so forth.

This is the data available on Ayu on the website:

ALBUMS
Duty - 3 million copies sold
A Best - 4 million copies sold
I Am... - 3 million copies sold
Rainbow - 2 million copies sold
A Ballads - 1 million copies sold
Memorial Ballads - 1 million copies sold
My Story - 1 million copies sold

SINGLES
Free and Easy - double platinum
H - million seller (only one of 2002!)
Voyage - triple platinum
& - double platinum
Forgiveness - platinum
No Way To Say - platinum
Moments - platinum
Inspire - platinum
Carols - platinum
Step You - platinum
Fairyland - platinum
Heaven - platinum

I'm not sure if these figures include overseas sales. Hikki's Be My Last only sold 80,000 copies during its first week on the Oricon chart, but according to the RIAJ website, it has gone double platinum!?!?!?
