Avex sales stats for 2003

On Sanspo, there's a chart which lists the ranking, name of artist, sales, and the amount of money generated for Avex for 2003:

ayumi_pukka89 4th August 2004 12:45 AM

CT_Cool 4th August 2004 12:48 AM

Nice to c ayu topping the sale list :P thanks for thr infor :thumbsup

Piccolo 4th August 2004 01:02 AM

More than double of BoA, geez.

BanFan 4th August 2004 01:09 AM

Hm..that's no surprise, but I'm sick of Ayu now...

TeamAyu 4th August 2004 01:13 AM

Go Ayu! Still toppin' the charts! Hmmm I though Avex would have more artist than that... guess not ^^;;

tetsuo69 4th August 2004 01:24 AM

i never doubted her ^_^

tl1029530921 4th August 2004 01:51 AM

woah..o_O...so she IS n top..:-P..wut do the stars mean?

bernardation 4th August 2004 02:15 AM

nobody can beat her !!! =D

lovia 4th August 2004 02:29 AM

yay!!! she is on top of the chart ^^ this significantly indicates that she is important!!!

Larisa-chan 4th August 2004 02:49 AM

I wonder who's 2nd?

ohsixthirty 4th August 2004 02:55 AM

Wow, thanks for the info! Nice to see that Ayu is top! :)

BanFan 4th August 2004 03:18 AM

I wish someone would beat her, like ELT...

dCxAyumi1 4th August 2004 04:45 AM

that's topping the charts...and a bag of chips! [hmm..sounds..awkward =T ]

Aldonia 4th August 2004 04:51 AM

Woooooooooo! Ayu kicked major butt! :shimmy :yatta

tl1029530921 4th August 2004 05:03 AM

it says BoA is 6..O_o..when they say Ayu is one..do they mean the whole music business??

[H] 4th August 2004 05:04 AM

Now that's nothing odd to see, judging that Ayu is the J-Pop queen. I'm sad to see HAL almost at the bottom of the list....

Jonny 4th August 2004 08:08 AM

Hmm...that sounds about right. It seems odd that Namie is kinda low on the list though, considering how she was making a comeback...released three singles and an album. And BREATH released the same amount. I never realized they were that popular.

liechin 4th August 2004 08:56 AM

Well done ,Ayu~~~

kournikova 4th August 2004 09:02 AM

oh nice ^^

jasjasss 4th August 2004 09:35 AM

WTH .. BoA is beating ELT and DO AS INFINITY ??
that is impossible ..
anyway im still glad that AYu beats BoA !!

~K+ 4th August 2004 09:53 AM

I'm surprised to see H/\L even mention, but go Ayu and ELT for making the top 10.

gakkun 4th August 2004 01:25 PM

^
^
Artists without a ranking just mean that they made it into the top 100, so Namie could've made more than BREATH (which she probably did).

btw I think the rankings mean the whole of Jpop, and this list only included the Avex artists.

Camille 4th August 2004 02:55 PM

Ayu ROCKS. All her sales are almost 28% of the Avex total (from those that were listed)

HanabiChick 4th August 2004 04:03 PM

Good to hear that :)

wel..DAI hasnt released anything special this year..:-/..just a live and a DVD-AUDIO. Ionno about ELT tho..o_o

Ibitsu Kokoro 4th August 2004 05:54 PM

Well, she is a workaholic.

fantaisie.sign 4th August 2004 06:14 PM

Thanks for the news!

Wow, interesting information. I'm curious to know who was ranked #2 just to see how far Ayu has a lead among others in the J-pop world. The odd thing about the list is how BoA is #6. I'd expect her to be #3 or #4.

No offense to Ayu fans, but ELT and DAI go for quality and not quantity...Even though Ayu has been releasing new stuff, it's not very good stuff... :rolleyes

Maybe it's about all the artists in Japan? I don't know though :shrug

ll moments ll 4th August 2004 06:55 PM

i'm happy for Ayu!
tho she is usually number 1...

~K+ 4th August 2004 06:56 PM

I'm guessing Southern All Stars, Mr. Children, B'z and some other lesser known bands overseas which are popular in Japan would slot in those other top empty spots =/

And if BoA is No.6 Mika might be somewhere top 10 or top 20 too...

sxesven 4th August 2004 06:58 PM

Yeah, I'm kinda surprised she actually ranks 6th.

Likewise, no offense, but I think DAI & ELT's recent releases have been HORRIBLE compared to their older stuff. They're taking too much time to put out crap.

These are 2003 sales. DAI had a lot of singles, and an album. And maybe some other things, I'm not sure.

o..sorry..

and ||moments||, ayu IS number one..:-P.

Coelacanth 4th August 2004 07:10 PM

I'm not surprised Ayu is number 1... Let's see in 2003, she released...

A BALLADS
RAINBOW (DVD AUDIO)
RMX WORKS from SUPER EUROBEAT presents ayu-ro mix 3
RMX WORKS from Cyber TRANCE presents ayu trance 3
RMX WORKS from ayu-mi-x V
Memorial Address
&
No way to say
forgiveness
ayumi hamasaki Complete Live Box

And I would guess total units sold between all of them are maybe... 3-4 million?

So tell me what some great ELT and DAI pre-2003 releases are, sorry for my ignorance, I just doubt if you even listen to them.

I enjoy the majority of their works from last year, "Grip!" "yura yura" "shiawasenofuukei" "Hiiragi" "BURANKO" are all great songs, far better than ayu's.

i listen to both and i agreed with him... DAI AND ELT their latest releases from 2003 on have been bad...

but i'm not saying ayu releases have been great ... either... so dont get me wrong... ayu started to mess up from 2003 on...

i still like ayu and Dai stuff way better than ELT(it all sound the same)
TO ME

tl1029530921 4th August 2004 08:04 PM

i really liked GoH..O-o..but i dont think it sold that well...ban fan, consider this. Sure, ayu's released a LOT..but almsot all those releases hit number one, and im nto sure about ELT...but GoH's highest position was only 4 or 5..

Findlay 4th August 2004 08:05 PM

tetsuo69 do you know that every time I saw your name it just instantly gets on my nerve? I guess that's the major reason why most ELT fans dislike Laruku a lot, for the sake that tetsu has been our Kaori's ex-boyfriend for so long... :no -_-

Back to the topic, I'm just don't think "HORRIBLE" and "crap" are the appropriate words to suit for their recent releases. Indeed they're not as good as the older stuff but definitely not as bad as voltron described them to be.

OK, this is the abbreviated version of my post...the forums went down as I was replying before....

First of all, I wasn't comparing them to Ayu. I criticize her too...I think Rainbow & Memorial Address were very good j-pop albums, but VERY BAD ayu albums. It's not my fault you can't handle criticism for these two bands. And it's kind of arrogant of you to just assume I haven't listened to them.

I think the first half of 2003 was GREAT for ELT. I loved the Many Pieces album, but nothing since "fundamental love" has impressed me. And I still like their older songs, "Time Goes By" is one of my favorite songs by them.

As for DAI...I didn't like GoH at all. I love a lot of their older songs..."Bokuensha tachi," "We Are," "Summer Days," "Under the Sun," "Remember the Hill," "Faces," "Tooku Made," etc. I think these songs are SIGNIFICANTLY better than their recent music.

The majority of j-pop has gone downhill, not just these groups. All I was trying to point out is that ELT & DAI shouldn't be used to try to make Ayu look worse, because they're putting out sub-par releases, as well.

If you read my post again, I say HORRIBLE compared to their old stuff. As in, not that it's the worst music in the world, but it's nothing at all impressive when compared to their old music.

Again, I was just trying to make the point that if someone is going to put down Ayu for her decreasing music quality, they shouldn't turn around and say that bands that are suffering from the same thing are so much better than her. A lot of it is opinion, and I respect that, but recent Ayu songs are still decent (if you don't compare them to her past songs) and so are some of these bands' songs, but some of them were just not that great. And, personally, I think they had more lackluster songs than Ayu has.

~K+ 4th August 2004 08:59 PM

We haven't heard Tokyo Jihen yet though...unless you have and you're not sharing *makes angry face*

Findlay 4th August 2004 09:04 PM

So are you saying that you can perfectly take criticism when your favorite artist's works is being unreasonably dissed as "crap"? Fine, I learnt my lesson and am not going to argue further more, apology to you. I guess I'm just like BanFan, sorry.

Brittany 9th August 2004 10:56 PM

Wow.. Even more than BoA :D :D :D :D GOOO AYU!

squirty 10th August 2004 12:50 AM

Yay for Ayu! 2003 had some really good releases by Ayu, so I'm not surprised.

MedJohn 10th August 2004 01:21 AM

ayu's songs now tend to use repeated motifs
this is clearly seen in GAME, INSPIRE, WE WISH, n' No way to say
the chorus part repeats the same rhythm (or motif) over n' over again...
it's a bit tiring if this trend goes on~~
on the other hand, the chorus parts of AUDIENCE, Real me, evolution, n' Voyage dun've such trends

starr5245 10th August 2004 03:08 AM

AYU IS NO. 1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

FancySN 11th August 2004 04:29 AM

Oh, my god. I wonder if those figures are very significant when compared to how much American artists make...??

Hye Cheon 12th August 2004 12:18 AM

I'm glad to see so many great artiststs doing well, although 2003 definitely wasn't the best year for new material. I think things started to pick up this year, though, and 2005 is going to be a lot better. I love Ayu, BoA, DAI, and ELT, and the fact that one does better than the other says nothing about their individual music. It just means one is more mainstream-popular than the other; and likewise that doesn't say anything good or bad about either artist. These are just statistics, nothing to get upset about.

FancySN: I'm really curious about that as well. I bet those numbers would whack us upside the head, considering American stuff is sold with success in Japan, but Japanese stuff doesn't even touch American charts. The Japanese market is smaller, but still one of the largest in the world (I wouldn't be surprised if it was labeled the 2nd largest entertainment industry, next to the USA). No matter, Ayu and the rest of the Avex crew still aren't hurting one little bit.

lizziemeister 17th August 2004 09:36 PM

wow.. first. lol

no_way_to_say 23rd August 2004 08:55 AM

anyone has the list which includes the whole j pop music industry in japan???
this seems to be only avex....
