I got Autobiography last week (friday, aug 13) and I love her CD. I heard she made 300 million copies the first day it came out and they have predicted a million! isn't that good??

Ugh...I hate her. My sister loves her and her voice is so awful! And her whole "I'm completely opposite of my sister Jessica" thing really annoys me.

I hope she's just a fad and goes away very soon...

Anyway Jessica sucks worse... Her new found fame is also from a TV show, and all she knows how to do is cover 80's songs... I think her voice is annoying too... At least Ashlee's studio recordings are decent... Ashlee is a bit stupid though, claiming shes 'rock' and not pop. I mean rock stars don't promote their record by airing a reality TV show on MTV...

I think her songs are all right, beats out most of her sister's songs except for Irresistable. Not all into punk like rock.

I think 300 Million was a typo. As of today, Eagles Their Greatest Hits 1971–1975 is the best selling record of all time, has only sold 28 million copies.

Ok, people who think ashlee simpson is acceptable, in any way, shape or form, are deaf. This girl CANNOT sing, the only reason she got a record deal was because of her sister. She exemplifies all that is wrong in American pop music. I'll copy and paste a review from amazon.com that best expresses what I think about her and her crap music.

First of all...I think it's important for everyone who enjoys music to realize something: No matter how manufactured a song or album can be...it is still music. It is still a creation. If the figurehead artist has put 'zero' creative energy into a project, that doesn't mean it is automatically a terrible CD. What this means is that the 'real' song writer(s) and musician(s) will never get the attention and credit they deserve because they have to make room for the idol. This is very unfortunate and is something that I normally don't tolerate. But that's me....if I don't like it, I won't buy it. Simple as that.

What compelled me to write this review was the half-episode of Ashlee's MTV show that I caught the other day. She was complaining that the producer was trying to get her to sound more 'pop' and less 'rock'. Later on in the show, she is seen talking to another associate about said producer.

"He wants me to be like Hilary Duff and I'm not going to do that. That's not the kind of music I listen to and it's not the kind of music that I want to make. I'm not my sister. I want a rock album not a pop album."
My jaw hit the floor. Is she serious, here? Could she really be so naive?

Let's step back and examine the facts:

-She has a show on MTV chronicling the production of her album letting the whole world see how manufatured and fake it is.
-She doesn't write songs....she doesn't play instruments.
-Everything she does reguarding the album is dictated by her record company.
-She claims to be a 'rocker-chick' making a rock album.

Has she not yet realized that she's a puppet? Her album will never be played on any of the rock stations....it will never acheive anything other than pop status, played on top-40 radio right after Hilary Duff. It's so sad to see someone so self-delusional and gullible who really doesn't deserve to be treated like this. Yeah, she'll make millions of dollars and eventually fade away and forgotten like the pop-stars before her. And I'm betting that she'll still be bitter about not being treated like the rock-star she wanted to be

Ashlee Simpson is simply misguided. So I'll offer some guidance in the form of the cold, hard truth: Rock stars play their own instruments and write their own music, Ashlee. If the record company does it for you, then chances are you're going to be pop. If you want to be a rock star....first learn how to play your guitar half-way decent. Then write some songs.....all of the songs...not just a few words. Find some people to jam with....practice, practice, practice........then make your album. And don't let the studio drastically change your art to conform with an image they've designed for you....that is not rock.

As a side-note. An autobiography is the story of an individual, written by the same individual. This album is not the creation of Ashlee Simpson therefor it is not an autobiography as the title implies. If the songs are about her, then it is a biography, unrespectably. But that's OK...I'm sure Ashlee's record label doesn't really care if her fan's have a single neuron working properly or not. As long as they shell out the cash like they're told to.

UPDATE: Hey, here is how Ashlee Simpson 'writes' a song: She writes lyrics to a melody that already exists........or she writes a little poem and then sends it off to a musician that creates the actual music. You have to do more than write lyrics to be a songwriter. Geez...some people will believe anything.

Yet the reviewer makes good points, he makes it clear that he hasn't even listened to the album and its not right to judge by that... If he can take time to write a review like that and not take time to listen to the album, he must have no life...

already knowing she can't sing a note, and that she became famous through her sister, do you really need to listen to her album to confirm her corporate toolness?

You know...I tried not to like her, but then i watched her show a few times and kind of got puled in. I think she's just a girl and nothing more, but she has really catchy music. whether she wrote it all or not, i don't really care to be honest...when i listen to it, i still enjoy it, so why worry? She definitely isn't rock...and not even punk...she is pop, but that's fine if you realize that I suppose.

My older sister has this her album and it sucks! I've listened to probably half the CD when she plays it in her car and it's awful! Ashlee cannot sing at all! Everytime I hear her I want to run away or plug my ears! Everytime I see her, I get so disgusted I want to vomit. She looks better as a blonde too...;)

i bought her album just becuz i luv "pieces of me"....but...although i still thought her carrer should just like Hilary Duff...a simply pop entertainer...
by the way,..in this album...theres some songs maybe Ashlee wanna show how she feel about the songs or whatever....then her voice cracked...thats awful....

Unfortunately, all the teeny little girls (and Phantoma) will run around and buy her music, just because she's acting to be punk. She sucks at singing. Plain and simple. I don't even understand how she's topping the charts.

Yeah Phantoma, Ashlee has a great voice. That's why her show always showed her screwing up and singing way off-key. What a great singer. Props for her... :rolleyes

May we remind ourselves that Ayu never started out with any more potential to be a singer than Hilary Duff, Ashlee Simpson, or anybody else that was mentioned?

And may we further reminds ourselves that, though we may think that Ayu's voice is nice, others may not? Besides, at the beginning of her career, Ayu's voice really did suck. It was high, squeaky, unnatural.
It's kind of the same for Ashlee.

Not that I'm supporting her or anything. I really don't give a pickle for her. Or Hilary Duff. Or any of those teen stars. I would just like to point out that maybe we shouldn't be so hard on her because the "teen idol" that we like so much--Ayu--is not so different from them.

I agree with FancySN, it's all a matter of taste... Just because some people don't like Ashlee's voice, doesn't mean its bad... Most people I know hate Ayu's voice, yet I think its great... :rolleyes

I mean, leave these kids alone. . . They are rich, (or their family is) they can make a record if they want... I mean back in the 70's all the pop idol singers couldn't sing... NOTHING has changed, get over it. And i'd rather listen to wannabe punk teenage girls than ANY rap song... I'd also rather listen to a HUMAN being sing, not weirdo robot-women who show-off with their overdone vocals (Mariah, Whitney, Utada)... And leave Hilary alone, Disney sewed her vagina shut. :P

anyways at first I disliked Ashlee Simpson alot, I thought she was whiny and that she didn't knwo how to sing, that is why she had those singing problems. I usually watch her show because I always leave it on mtv and the show isn't all that great.

Afanforxx is kinda right because in order to be a rocker chick of some sort you have to play your own instrument or write your own lyrics. I think Ashlee wrote a few songs....I think :D

now I like jsut because she is hotter than jessica, but jessica can sing better so yeah.

please don't compare hamasaki to ashlee. hamasaki worked HARD to get where she is, regardless of the fact her voice is horrible. ashlee most likely woke up one day and decided to make a cd, 30 minutes later, she had an MTV show and a record deal. a couple of months later, she all of a sudden has a #1 album....

it's not that easy for anyone in jpop to be #1, just look at asami abe. she's nacchi's sister, but she in no way is even close to being #1. you have to work HARD for your self, and popularity thru association isn't good enough.

I think Pieces of Me is catchy, but its one of those pop songs that you'll like for like a week and then it either just gets old, or gets flat out annoying because of overplayedness. That's what happened to The Reason by Hoobastank for me.

Oh well,At least ashley is better that dumb blonde sister jessica simpson. And bout hillary duff,i dislike her as well.Basically i dislike teeny ppopers. they are irritating.

I think ashlee's voice is a bit better than jessica's just because it sounds more real and less scary. Notice I said LESS scary! That still means she's scary just like the rest of the family! And even though her music may seem punkier than usual pop, its still pop! I just think its funny how she wore a shirt that said "punk" in her music video for "Pieces of Me" which is definitely not a punk song.
