[2004] "my name's WOMEN" title discussion

LOL I'm still intrigued with the name of the song. While I could just think it is some stupid engrish with no care for doing the proper correction, sometimes it also occurs that maybe the title was made that way mostly intentionally than wrong. First of is the fact that they use caps for the word WOMEN.

LOL I know she probably didn't read this text but by reading it it makes me more comfortable with that title since it was already used in an "correct" english text LOL: http://www.oglethorpe.edu/faculty/~j_bohart/Menotti.htm

yulen 1st November 2004 09:35 PM

perhaps they used women instead of woman to include all women as opposed to just ayu. or perhaps ayu feels that she is a part of all women. or something. pieces of women maybe? at any rate, women seems to include all instead of woman which only includes herself.

tl1029530921 1st November 2004 09:37 PM

"I am woman" is a saying too.....o.o

y2687 1st November 2004 09:38 PM

hear me ROAR. *rawr*

Larisa-chan 1st November 2004 09:44 PM

what's there to discuss? it's a horrible title that puts Greatful Days' engrish to shame ;) ;)

aiko_hoshi 1st November 2004 09:49 PM

the title makes me think she has like multiple personalities..who are all women o.O

jerms 1st November 2004 09:56 PM

lol i'm over it by now. at first i was like holy freakin hell whats up with that! but the song sounds incredible regardless of the title. and the more i think of it, the less of a deal it is to me. i can almost bet on it that the lyrics are going to have hte same message as "real me" just from the title. :shrug...and the song..i must say again ROCKS! i'm so excited. my faith in ayu has recently been renewed from taht utter dissapointment before when inspire was released. i believe in her now! :)

kristen 1st November 2004 09:58 PM

With the respect of "my name's woman'' = i am woman, i can safely draw the conclusion that my name's women = i am women... correct? ._.

In that case, i'm guessing by saying 'i am women' ayu's probably projecting herself as an idol or symbolism for women in general.

sxesven 1st November 2004 10:04 PM

OUCH.

ayumi_pukka89 1st November 2004 10:05 PM

Ayumi changed her name. =p
It's now Woman.

Oh, that wasn't directed towards you, it was a comment on the title.

The title pains me.

Ouch.

CREA 1st November 2004 10:06 PM

When I first saw the title, I was caught a bit off guard as well. It is a very strange title for an ayu song, but once I thought about it, it seems logical and it IS correct grammar. I think the meaning of the title is that she sees herself as being not just a single woman, but including herself with all women. It's highly possible the theme of lyrics will have to do with strong females and a very "girl power" oriented song. (I don't like using the term "girl power" because after the Spice Girls used it so much, it became stupid.)

tl1029530921 1st November 2004 10:06 PM

wait..what?

sxesven 1st November 2004 10:14 PM

Good. :)

bulmasman 1st November 2004 10:25 PM

yeh, i think with that title it includes all women. I am woman is too, well, self obsessed in a way for Ayu. To say that she is women is basically showing that although she's famous etc... she's still the same as all other women in the end.

maybe i'm reading too much into this though... evil medication ><

elepop 1st November 2004 10:33 PM

I have nothing to say about the song's title because i haven't read any translation of the song. I think that the lyrics will explain more about what is it about and why 'my name's WOMEN'. We'll have to wait.

Nu-NRG 1st November 2004 10:34 PM

my name's women....my name is women or my name means women? but that don't make any sense or
ayu have a strong feminism and want to let people know that she is a woman*
and can do anything(Real me?)and she represents all the women out there
or as aiko hoshi said...ayu have different "women" inside her like a multi personality
there a cute ayu....a drink and smoking going tothe bar ayu and a muiscian ayu?
x.x i dont know...

ayumi_pukka89 1st November 2004 10:43 PM

Maybe she's saying she's a woman and she's proud of it. xD

jerms 1st November 2004 10:44 PM

I AM MEN!

Curious about the lyrics, btw.

"Hi, my name is...
What, my name is...
Who, my name is...
WOMEN!"

then there was 'i am weasel'.

omg those were the days. i'm so sad they took that off cartoon network.

AyuLover 1st November 2004 11:28 PM

I was surprised by the major English error.

Obviously, the title shoudl be "My name's WOMAN", at the very least.

Surely someone at Avex should know what's correct. o_0

paper_doll 1st November 2004 11:42 PM

It's a horrible title -_-

Coelacanth 1st November 2004 11:44 PM

I hope its not like another 'girl power' song... 'Real me' was enough...

jiayulam 1st November 2004 11:53 PM

i think it is from i am weasel. a spin off from cow and chicken

tl1029530921 1st November 2004 11:53 PM

close enuf..:-P

Ibitsu Kokoro 1st November 2004 11:58 PM

The title could mean two things.
It probablly means "I STAND FOR ALL WOMEN!" like she's standing up for all women. In japan women and men aren't REALLY equal. (well they ARE equal but not considered equal) but ayu thinks both men and women are equal. That's why she uses boku in a lot of her lyrics.

paper_doll 1st November 2004 11:59 PM

Wait.. O_o Oh yeah. Wasn't that all in the same show though?
Oh whatever ^^;

Ibitsu Kokoro 2nd November 2004 12:16 AM

lol i forgot to say what else it could mean! It could also mean "IM JUST A WOMAN TO YOU" but women because its all women.

spacelion 2nd November 2004 12:25 AM

I got bored so I looked up all the words..

My - belonging to someone
Name - a word or words by which someone or something is known, addressed, or referred to
is - exist; be present
WOMEN- adult human females

I think what she means is that she belongs or exist in the WOMEN group. She is WOMAN.

tl1029530921 2nd November 2004 01:38 AM

a word by which Ayu is known is present as 'adult human females"..:yes

Vinh 2nd November 2004 02:12 AM

Title might be a bit awkward, but the song sounds really good. :yes

Corybobory 2nd November 2004 02:15 AM

^I agree. REALLY akward but REALLY good.

gogirlanime 2nd November 2004 02:17 AM

Yeah, at first I was like "what the hell?!" But now that I think of it, it's Ayu, and in a way some of her stuff is cheesy, but always in a good way, cuz let's not kid ourselves, it's Ayu for goodness sake how are we not going to like it eventually at least

Qt Mashi 2nd November 2004 02:28 AM

the title "my names women" makes her sound stuck up
but if we actually read her lyrics it'll make more sense

ayuchanfan 2nd November 2004 02:49 AM

she better change the title.

Coelacanth 2nd November 2004 02:51 AM

She should change the title to... 'No my name ain't baby, it's Ayumi, Miss Hamasaki if you're nasty.' xD

tl1029530921 2nd November 2004 02:52 AM

and thats happened like.....once.

sepia would of been a nice title tho

kotora 2nd November 2004 02:56 AM

Ayu needs to take some English courses and improves her English.

chibi_sunny 13th December 2005 10:28 PM

As mentioned before by many, I believe that Ayu is standing up for all women out there, you can see that from seeing the PV...somewhat.
