How many songs can you sing?
 

I karaoke to Ayu. A lot. So there are quite a few of her songs that I have memorized. I was wondering if anyone else karaoke's to her and, if so, what songs can you sing without looking at the lyrics? These are the ones I know:

Wow, that's a lot more than I thought it would be...
I can also sing along with practically all of her songs if I've got the lyrics(romanized, of course) in front of me. Is this unhealthy?

About all of them. I don't know why. I memorize songs really easily, even the ones i don't really like. But most of the time is when i hear the music that the lyrics comes out of my head by heart.

I feel like a really bad Ayumi fan right about now, ha ha. I don't speak any Japanese at all, so I can really only sing along bits and pieces, I wish I could do more, but I can never get my pronunciation right, even after listening a lot. The only song I think I can sing along with beginning to end is Appears!

*nods* Me, too. Without really meaning too. I listen to a song a couple of times and then one day suddenly start singing along with it and I'm like "Oh, I didn't realize I knew this song... O.O"


Actually, I speak practically no Japanese. *sweatdrop* But I listen almost exclusively to j-pop/j-rock and watch a lot of sub-titled anime, so I've picked up on pronounciation. (Not to brag, but I seem to have an ear for languages. My French teacher loves me.) And like I said, most of them I learned by accident. I can only think of few that I taught myself to sing.

hmm do "neologisms" singing count? I never read the lyrics and memorize it, I kinda memorize the main tones and it kinda flows when I sing. I gotta say CAROLS flow pretty well when I sing it.

I know parts of pretty much all of them and a lot entirely, but I don't think I could actually go and list them. For the record, I know very little Japanese, so I only get a line here and there...the phonetics of it just stick with me. :yes

new words...when I know the right words for the song I sing them but the part I can't remind I insert a word with a simillar tone just in order not to stop singing. I'm too lazy to be reading lyrics and singing along with them :thud

I like to think I can pronounce Japanese fairly well, and pick up on it a lot. Not to mention songs that I listened to even when I was 9 still stick with me. ^^; The songs I could confidently sing byself with no lyrics in front of me are:

And almost all the others I can sing bits and pieces to, and often do. Ayu is certainly the singer I karaoke most. ^_^

I have a 'special' way of singing Ayu songs... they kind of contain only vowels and couple of words every verse... like "Ayayaya ohyeeaooo alala ANO HITO WA lalayoooee..."

I can sing Appears and End Roll with the words, but that's about it.

it depends on how well my voice is doing; if its doing really good i can hit the high notes on Powder Snow so i feel pretty confident that i can sing the rest :yes

I tried to sing Ayu songs before, and it was very difficult for me to hit the high squeaky notes that she does. But then I joined choir and found out that I'm a Soprano I, which is basically the higest female range, and it stumps me.
I can do it if I get to my head voice. I don't think it's healthy to stay in the chest voice and sing that high.

XD I sing karaoke very often and usually whenever I hear an Ayu song I just go sing along and later I go. "was I singing??" It comes rather naturally and her songs are catchy. I hear. I sing. o_o I also TRY to mimic her but isn't always sucessful. Her high notes are rather easy to me. XDD But I don't think it's unhealthy to know how to sing ALOT of her songs. For me, it helps me let everything out because anywhere else I can't shout. _-_;

I can memorize things very easily, so I can sing a lot of Ayu songs. But some I can't karaoke-- I have to sing along with Ayu.

I can sing all her songs, I just need the Romaji lyrics.

The ones I've memorized, which are the ones which mean a lot to me are:

NOTE: Karaoke-ing along with Ayu's instrumentals are hard for me because the backround vocals make me lose my beat and tone....=(

Eve can sing all of the songs. If you speak spanish, the pronounciation is a breeze, and all you have to do is memorize the words.

I think I may be forgetting a few (such as the ones that I don't have in my current playlist), but that's ok. Considering that I don't speak fluent Japanese (Nihongo ga skoshi wakari masu), I think that's pretty good. :yes

I'm so glad I'm not the only one. =^.^= My friends hear me do songs like evolution and ourselves and their eyes go like this ----> O.O

And the thing where you just add sounds that are similar if you don't know the actually words. I do that sometimes, too, when I stumble over a verse.

As for my voice... Eh. My chorus teacher liked it, but I'm too shy to sing in front of other people. And I have trouble with Ayu's high notes, too. =^.^=

I can't sing much...I sometimes listen to them enough where I can sing a few pretty well though

Me too! I remember the first song I tried singing using the instrumental track (Dearest) I kept messing up at the choruses because of the background vocals.

I usually use the romanji lyrics to sing her songs, which in a way, is somewhat of a good thing, since it helps my Japanese reading skills (I think so anyways), Basically, it helps me to not get so tongue-tied with certain words at certain speeds and what not.

I like singing lots of her songs but there are really only two that I absolutely love and always sing:
HANABI -Episode II- (with the help of romanji lyrics)
Dearest (I can sing this song entirely without having to look at lyrics! A while back, I had wanted to kareoke this song in public (which I never did... :P) so I practiced and practiced and now I have it memorized completely! Plus, this is my FAVORITE Ayu song)

BTW, who else finds it nearly impossible to sing the evolution choruses?!

the only problem i have with evolution is keeping up with her during the chorus. I still sound like her.

It's exactlly the same for me..having problem hiting the high notes, but I think I can do it now by practice. I still can't sing the chorus in A Song is Born though.. :(

I don't know japanese at all, but for Swedish people it is very easy to learn how to pronunce Japanese. I can sing fast songs as evoultion and ourselves with no problem, I don't know how but it all comes naturally. I can almost do the rap part in Fly High (at least the first verse)!

I know most of her songs, well maybe not all of them perfectly, but many of them at least. I think Appears is the most enjoyable song to sing! :yes

i can try singing.Not accurate though.

though i dun understand pretty pony~pretty pony~pretty pony~ without translation.... but for songs.. i can easily memorise it after a few times without any lyrics or anything jus the music i can jsut sing... practically i can all of ayu song except for some: like two of us, and the single she released before she was in avex...^^

My friend was half japanese and told me my pronounciationa and accent isn't bad compared to some she heard. ^_^

I don't speak japanese so i just make weird noises and imitate words similar to what some other people said they do pmpl. oh dear... I wondered if I was the only one :-|

i personally think the easiest way to sing ayu's songs (or any japanese song for that matter) is to 1) Learn how to pronounce things in japanese. This is the KEY in being able to sing correctly. Singing in japanese doesnt necessarily require you to know japanese (just so you dont get scared or anything ^^; lol)

Then, after you've pretty much mastered the pronounciation, listen to the song a little bit, get the feel of it, note how fast/slow the song is, just to know the song's rhythm. Then find the lyrics for it. A good site for lyrics is http://ayumi.primenova.com. Listen to the song, while studying the lyrics, to see how they match up.

Then try singing along with Ayu using the lyrics to guide you. If you keep doing this, you'll eventually have the song memorized ^^

I know ALL the lyrics to The Love Bug by M-Flo and BoA, just because the English lyrics got me into the "flo" (ehehehehe bad pun i know :P) of the Korean ones :)

The pronounciation for Japanese is very very very easy. I'm (well, at least i consider myself to be :P) a pro at pronounciation.

It helps when you listen to music a lot, i picked up most of the pronounciation rules doing that.

I can sing all her songs except the songs from her FIRST first album and the album only tracks on "A Song for XX" other than that, all of them perfectly hehe, cuz I speak a lot of Japanese...

i can't sing.. although i'm a girl.. when i sing i sound so low it's practically a guys voice XD so i can't sing ayumi songs XD

hmmmm, easier then the english? I hope so. I have noticed that Japanese seems to be a very good language for singing, as everything is in sylables (sp? :irked I should learn to read and write is Japanese, at least then i'd be able to at least spell in one language :P)

I only notice this because chinese pop...errr is bad (to me, anyways) :P

the harder things i guess is to know that when you see an "f" technically its supposed to be pronounced like an "h", but a lot of japanese singers ive noticed dont do this.

Also, if you see double "n"s, or one on the end of a word, then you pronounce it like a separate syllable. ex:

ko-n-na
i-chi-ba-n

when you see "ai" you pronounce them as separate syllables, as an american short "o" then a long "e".

when you see 2 "t"s after a vowel then hold the vowel a little longer

motto -> mo-o-to

There's just a few ^_^ if my examples are wrong please correct me someone ^^;

We went over this in phonetics class and it really helped me with the pronunciation.. the japanese 'fu/hu' is a 'bilabial fricative' meaning you pronouce it with your two lips. Think of how you articulate an 'f', with your top teeth and bottom lip, then but try dong the same thing with your two lips. Hope this helps :)

I can correct a little.

The 'f' isn't really an 'h'. It's a light blowing of air between the upper lip and lower teeth(or between your lips alone). It's a very soft sound. You can hear this sometimes in singing. But sometimes it also sounds hard. This is just because language changes when it's sung. If you pick up the sound from speaking, it's most often heard as I described.

The double 'n' means you just hold the 'n' sound out little bit. And 'n' at the end of a word is generally pronounced in the back of the throat. A kind of nasal sound.

'ai' isn't generally pronounced as two sounds, but as one. Sounding like the English word 'eye'. In music, you often hear it pronounced as two sounds so the the music flows. Then, it is pronounced as 'ah-ee'.


For some other tips oin Japanese sounds. There is no Japanese 'l'. The closest thing they have is the 'r' sound. which in music often sounds just like an 'l'. In speaking, and in some instances of music, the 'r' sounds like a cross between an 'l' and a very light 'd'.

The 'u' on the end of words is often left off. It isn't really gone, but the sound is so quiet that you can barely hear it. (A perfect example of this is Gackt's name. It's pronounced ga-ku-to. The 'to' on the end is always easy to hear, but the 'u' in 'ku' is whispered. But, if you listen to his name said over a couple of times you can actually hear it.)

Below, I've listed pronounciations of the Japanese vowels.

a - 'ah' as in saw
e - 'eh' as in let
i - 'ee' as in see
o - 'oh' as in no
u - 'oo' as in sue
