Region DVD Question
 

Hello ^^

I wish to buy "My Story", CD+DVD version and I read that Region 2 and 3 are available. One is the overseas and the other is the Japan version. I live in Europe but I have no idea how to find out if my DVD accepts all regions ( if that exists ) or only Region 2.

Europe? Most likely your DVD player'll be a region 2 one.

Only thing is European countries don't use the television standard Japan or some other Asian countries use*, which is NTSC (National Television System Committee), they use either PAL (Phase Alternating Line) or SECAM (Sequential Couleur Avec Memoire). For more on the different television standards, go to this site.

To be able to watch the MY STORY DVD... your DVD player must be able to convert NTSC to PAL/SECAM. Or watch it on your PC (if you have a DVD-rom drive that is).

* - Not all Asian countries use NTSC.

I have a DVD drive on my PC. So I have to buy a cd which plays in region 2 only? @.@ aka the japan version? I was thinking of buying the os one.

Your PC's DVD will definatly play the Japan version without a problem (Europe and Japan are in the same Region), and with "region free" software added it has a 90+% chance of playing the Overseas version too.

Post the model number of your consumer DVD player and we can find out if that can do all regions too. Unless your TV is more the 4 years old or very small/basic it will be able to handle NTSC; again with a model number this can also be found out for sure.

I am not sure if it is the information required but it says Samsung CDRW/DVD SM-352B.

I checked the properties n the current region is not selected yet. Or so it says.

You can look up the model of standalone DVD players here, should be able to tell you how your player will handle regions.

Tell me your DVD Brand name and the model, i'll try to find the code that you have to type only with your remote controler in order to set it on Region 0 ;)

Depends. I think all drives have an internal limit of 5 region changes. You can see how many you have left and if you can change it via start, control panel, system, hardware, device manager, DVD/CD drives, double click your DVD drive, then select the region tab. (Will alter slightly if your not using XP) I have used this before in order to view a different region DVD. Beware though, once you run out of your changes, your drive becomes locked to that region :grumpy

There are also other solutions out there, such as flashing new firmware onto your drive, but its not simple. You can also use some software to bypass it too I believe.

or you could do what i plan to do, buy a cheap ass not region set dvd rom for your machine. it's the safest way.

Region 2 can play Japanese DVD's..you are lucky to live in Europe, because I have to use a disc to make my PS2 Region Free.. but no hassle, eh?

I have this problem. I live in Brazil, where the code region is 4. I had to buy a free code region DVD. Now I can watch japanese and all over the world DVD. ehehehe

I had this problem... To fix it, I bought a region free DVD player. Some players you can hack to make region free. (It gets complicated most of the time, though...) If you don't use your PC's DVD player, then I would suggest using that.

i actually have 3 different dvd players at home to play region 1, region 2 and region 3 dvds :)

What software can you use to make your PS2 play other region DVDS? ( i live in US if that makes a difference )

The simplest thing is to buy software like "Action Replay MAX" for the PS2. Not only does it come with thousands of cheat codes for games, you can use it to make your PS2 a multi-region DVD player. Um... yeah. ^^;;;

For your computer. You can find different software that lets you watch all regions' DVD with changing your hardware property (which is limited). Google them.

And if you're in US regions where Asian population is relatively high. region- free DVD player for Tv is kinda dirt cheap.

I could actually never figure that out and ended up giving up... I bought an all region DVD player for myself for x-mas. Everytime I tried to use the PS2, it wouldn't read the disk. At all. So utterly frustrating.

oh my computer only plays region 4 and i d/led this codec from google called DVD X Ghost or something and now it works, and it can play all regions! yay i love watching stuff on computer

You can always download Hacked firmware, wich allowed unlimited region change :)

hacked firmwares are not so easy to find though

It's actually good- I was surprised. Plays all my VCDs and burned CDs, too n.n

I got mines for 40 bucks brand new at radioshack its a "Cyber Home" dvd player and I just did a code which was like up down and some numbers but yeah i use it for all my dvds=D

Depend of the model of your player, but for mine (NEC ND-1300A) i find a website with all hacked firmwares for all nec player :) And all version of hacked firmwares, always up to date.

On the PC side, DVD Region Free is the one I use to watch Ayu on my laptop, and if I want to watch a PAL DVD since I live in America. This doesn't effect the region code that is in your physical DVD ROM drive. It works by tricking the player program (Power DVD, WinDVD, whatever) that you're playing the right region. You can change your DVD ROM drive's actual region, but you cannot change over 5 times, as someone said in this thread.

A NTSC PS2 will play any region with the help of Game Shark (The reason I got a GS) but it will not play PAL. A PAL PS2 with a Game Shark will play any region, but will not play NTSC. To get it to work, simply put the GS in the PS2, select DVD player and the region you want to play, then put your disc in and play it. IMPORTANT NOTE: Game Shark V2 will not work with the Remote Control DVD driver upgrade! You cannot use your remote control playing another region disc on a PS2 with GS V2. Remove the memory card to try it. Newer PS2s with upgraded drivers built in will also not work and you'll need a GS V3, but I know little about that version.
