I downloaded the performance and I thought she sounded terrible. She screamed through the song, danced almost as badly as during SNL. She shouted "you make me wanna uh uh uh" while making totally unsexy hip thrusts. Really, she should stick to lipsynching; her live singing hurts the ears. Pathetic, she has no onstage charisma.

I think Ashlee can't sing and only got her career because of reality TV sis, so this opinion comes from someone who doesn't like her and would want to see her 15 minutes go to people who've actually got some small amount of talent.

I'd rather see myself perform in front of a mirror than go watch her live heh. And that's saying something.

I think in some way I'm more entertained by Ashlee than Avril Lavigne. When it comes to "punk rawk" girls, Ashlee is most gloriously fake and talentless. I used to feel a bit sorry for her because I think Papa Simpson is creepy and All About Jessica, but that ended when Ashlee undeservedly got a career through reality TV.

I don't feel sorry for Ashlee. She never had to convince people she has talent. Even Britney had to audition for the Mickey Mouse Club. But because Ashlee's sister was a B-list blonde popstar who got herself a reality TV hit, she gets an album too despite her lack of singing talent, charisma or any sort of true interest in music. She's manufactured to be the "edgy" Simpson (dark hair!) and earns huge amounts of money for it.

I don't like nepotism and that's the only reason she has anything resembling a career. She never had to work for it, do small shows, get some experience, learn from her mistakes and still want to be a singer despite disappointments. No, straight for the recording studio and SNL! She's not a professional. Shows like this make that perfectly clear.

I'm on Ashlee's side... I think she is a horrible musician. But who's god damn fault is it that she's performing at all these events? The public. She's selling millions and millions of records but getting booed at the same time. It makes no sense to me. It's like people are telling her she's good just because they feel sorry for her... Is that how the music industry works now in America? Well, that's a shame then... And don't even tell me the only people who like her is the 'Disney crowd' because then she wouldn't be performing at The Orange Bowl and Saturday Night Live...

To me, this country should just give up on making music... Between 50 Cent, Ciara, Avril Lavigne, Britney Spears, Usher, Norah Jones, Ashlee Simpson, American Idol... They all suck. But I don't know, maybe it's just me...

The Top 40 is composed almost entirely of rap. I have nothing major against rap, but it's just the thought of how its conquered the mainstream, that makes me uneasy.

Just look at how popular William Hung has become... Don't you just think it's the saddest thing in the world? Not funny at all... :rolleyes

Why is it the public's fault that she has to perform at the events? She sold millions of records because she got connections and because of that she can get a lot of promotion. So she kinda got shoved into people's faces and they thought she actually had talent because of what they heard on the record.

But funny how after the SNL mishap, everyone flocked back to liking her... At least for awhile. And now whatever television company wanted her to perform at the Orange Bowl, even after the SNL incident. Ridiculous...

Of course she has connections, she has her ditz sister who's popular for... Um, what reason?

Common sense says you shouldn't buy Ashlee's album, no matter how much it was promoted... She IS a Simpson...

And at least Ashlee attempted to sing. Britney would just lip-synch away and try to cover it up with stage props and flashy effects...

Actually, I would rather have a lipsyncing Britney on stage than this. At least there would be something to look at.

If you can't sing live, then don't. Or lipsync, and do it so that no-one notices.
This was just plain horrible. She's supposed to be an artist. You can't deliver such a performance and expect the public to take it. She's was hired for entertainment, this was more like a punishment.

I would rather see Britney live, period. And I'm not a big fan.

Yeah I was thinking about that too. That part got me a lil P.O'd Like you can tell the performers that had nothing to do with Ashlee's performance worked real hard. Like, if i was working my balls off you know, to do that kind of thing, id hate it if at the end everyone boo'ed.

Most likely though, I know everyone there knew it wasn't at them, that it was at her. Also yeah her band must be having a rough time with that. I know that they actually play their instruments, and that is something to be commended on. I think that in the near future, if it continues, her band members will either tell her to get her act together or there will be a change in players.

The US is not the epitome of crap music, let's be honest. A lot of the US mainstream music may be crap in our eyes, a lot of it may be crap even when considered subjectively, there's a lot of brilliant music coming from the US as well. Writing off the entire music scene just because most mainstream acts suck doesn't seem like the best idea. US pop isn't holy, nor is Jpop. There's bad sides to everything. I could name a hundred brilliant bands and artists right out of the top of my head, no problem.

Just because the US media doesn't pay attention to them doesn't mean they're not around or that we shouldn't listen to them. Our local media probably pay no attention to Jpop either, but we all listen to Jpop here.

It's not that the US is the epitome of bad music, every place has bad music heh. It's just that we're one of those countries that people from other countries consider "big, powerful and cool" so the entertainment from here spreads everywhere. Just like I bet everyone in Japan knows who Britney Spears is, but not very many here in the US know who Ayu is. It's not that we have a lot of bad music, it's just that it spreads and everyone hears it, and that's what causes a big effect.

Anyways, Ashlee's stuck in a pretty hard situation. As of now, she can either continue "trying" to be an artist, and receive negative comments from everyone~
or she can give up after all that's happened, and be laughed at. "haha she sucked, she was a fake!" and blah blah and then be talked about forever.

I kind of feel sorry for her NOW that she's failed more than once. But then I don't get how she even dares to compete with her sister. She knows she's not an entertainer, she hasn't learned to be one yet, and she still goes and competes, probably only pushing herself to a mental breakdown because people don't like her. All she's doing for herself is putting herself in the spotlight. Everyone's gonna know her as- "Oh Ashlee Simpson! You're that one-hit wonder chick. Man, that performance where you did the hoe-down was hilarious. The whole world is still talking about it? Having been part of a performing arts program for four years I have met a lot of people with an abundance of talent for singing. To think that they may never get a chance to persue their dreams while this girl is running around stinking up stages because her big sister is famous makes me ill.

Ashlee may like to sing an perform but that doesn't make her good. Her stepping on stage and up to a microphone with little, if any, vocal training shows how little respect she has for what she "does". I wouldn't dream of singing professionally without training. Her jumping off stage when she hadn't even sung her song shows she has little respect for the audience, and shows how little experience she has. Since she has a famous big sister and her own reality show she has been given opportunities that she doesn't deserve and that she can't handle. She took the easy way to fame, it's costing her, and it's her own fault.

Well, I was talking about this on another board and the ballet thing came up. Apparently she was youngest only because Papa Simpson lied about her age; she simply would not have been admitted if they'd known she was too young (11 instead of the required 12). It wasn't because she was talented, just because creepy Papa lied. They sure have morals, eh? Also, it was a new obscure branch of the American School of Ballet and in the end, just something they mention to make people think she actually has talent somewhere.

Most of the time when people Boo, its directed towards the main attraction of the event, so.. its pretty obviouse who it was directed to.

i wonder though, after this... if she will get any spots for TV apperances, or any other outdoor event... I think after a mess up, and an entire stadium of Boo's.. from here on she might just go downhill...

I bought Ashlee's CD. I watched her show and I came to really like her as a person and an artist. But when I saw that SNL thing; I didn't know what to think. I just couldn't believe she blamed the thing on her band when the tape was playing in the background. :shakehead

I was really upset; I felt like I and the other, millions of people who bought her CD were ripped off. And I wanted to trade my CD in too! :gnash
Until I took a moment of empathy. Imagine if that were you lipsyncing your performance and then got caught live infront of an audience (i suppose) and millions of people around the world. It was wrong; dead wrong but to kick a dog when he's down is wrong too. I think the people should forgive her and go about their way. :(

But then when I saw the orange bowl performance...I was a little more ticked off than empathetic like everyone else. But I couldn't have boo-ed her. I don't have the heart to.

But let's be real...maybe pop/ and "bubblegum" rock music isn't her thing. She can sing though. I heard her sing "Little Drummer Boy" with her sister Jessica and her voice is wonderful. She says that rock is her thing and blah, blah, blah but I think it's only her thing because Mr. Geffen-Records-Man/ and her dad-ager says it is.

She should try and find her REAL self before even thinking about going on tour and putting out a follow-up album.
