a song for xx meaning

wat does the xx in a song for xx mean? like, mi friend says it's about her dad, and i can see why, since he ran away...but if anybody REALLY knows wat it means...please tell mi

Corybobory 7th October 2005 05:54 AM

my guess is they have 2 kanji in their name ^^

ph33r 7th October 2005 06:22 AM

I think it refers to various people. Not just one staple person. Or possibly even the listener.

sora2522 7th October 2005 06:26 AM

the only reason i suspect that it's about her dad is because if u look in the translations in the 2nd verse it sayz why are u here? why r u by my side? why r u running away?....any other ideas?

No, it is about her mother. She has stated so herself. Any new Ayumi fans should click on the link at the top of this page that says "Masa's translations" and read them. ;)

Ayumi meant for the Xx part to be filled in with whosever name that you want. In Ayu's case though it was, A Song For Mother. One of the other reasons for the Xx though was that Ayumi was too afraid to directly say that it is about her Mother. Which is why a few years later, she changed some of the lyrics to what she originally intended. Originally in the song she always refers to "They". In the later performances of the song she changed all the "They"s to "You." Thus no longer being afraid to specifically pinpoint her Mother.

[AHS]MortalSex 7th October 2005 07:08 AM

hmm there is many theories for this but I thought that the "XX" stood for "female" cause the chromosome stuff XY means male or the opposite :P something like that maybe?

PickleCookies 7th October 2005 03:28 PM

Ayumi's Song for Mother.

She made it "XX," so anyone can make it referencable to whomever they wish. It's like "..."

elepop 7th October 2005 03:38 PM

"XX" basically means to "x" person. Like example... "I did this for "x" reason."

In this case, I think the "XX" is refering to either her mother or father.

Delirium-Zer0 7th October 2005 05:56 PM

It's her mother. It's ABOUT what happened with her father, but the message is to her mother.

atsai 7th October 2005 06:21 PM

She said in an interview or one of those talks before performing that the song was titled XX so people could dedicate to whoever they wanted to when listening to it by replacing the XX with the person's last name and their given name.
Like .. "A Song for Bob Smith."

ph33r 7th October 2005 10:00 PM

Like a variable! Yay for math - .-;;

Yeah, I remember her saying something like this.

no, u got it mixed...XX is male chromasone (sp?), XY is female

Calico 8th October 2005 12:35 AM

Actually, XX IS female, and XY is male. I'm pretty sure. :yes

Anyway, I honestly didn't know that it was for her mother...just that the XX probably was a variable. I don't know why I didn't guess, though, seeing as how Ayu dedicates a lot of her songs to people she knows.

I wonder how her mother feels about that.

Oh, so it's kind of like she's telling her mother what happened with her father. That makes sense.

sora2522 8th October 2005 03:00 AM

^ but...wouldn't her mom already kno this info?? cuz her dad ran away from the mom...at least...i think that's wat happened....

Yarumi 8th October 2005 03:13 AM

Okay... yeah XX stands for female... and XY stands for male... the easiest way to remember that is that the man decides the sex of the baby... therefor he has to have 2 different variables :)

anyways... another question similar to the one asked first... are ayu and her mother on speaking terms? Whats her relationship to her? What happened... I have been a ayu fan for a long time, but I never understood about ayu's mother...

Catzi 8th October 2005 03:57 AM

I think I've read somewhere that she's on good terms with her mother. I'm not sure where.

[AHS]MortalSex 8th October 2005 09:46 AM

they´re on good terms ^^ haven´t u seen the backstage @ a-nation 2005 when she was walking with her mother laughing and smiling together =) well at least I hope they have a good relationship together

jeffycue 8th October 2005 02:12 PM

hahaha! this is crazy... i thought its was "A Song for ME".... hehehe... it makes sense though... two X for ME... ü

Delirium-Zer0 8th October 2005 06:08 PM

sora2522: it isn't "info" though, the song is "this is how i feel". Of course her mom knows her dad left.

And they are on good terms but it took awhile... ayu's mom has a store called hanabi that sells things like candlabras and windchimes and stained glass and stuff and they used some stuff from that store for the bedroom photoshoot in the MY STORY booklet

I actually don't know. From what i gathered, it opened up a little bit after the song was released, but i could have misread something. I heard alot about it in summer '02 but almost nothing afterwards! After alot of searching last week i found a picture of the storefront though. I saw the name of the store in the MY STORY credits when i was typing them up for my site, so i was like "omg the store is still around!!"... I remember thinking "hey ayu and her mom both have stores, MTRLG and hanabi :P". Anyway, here's that picture... you can see a person working there and a fan on the wall behind them:

Yep, she changed it from mawari to anata for the A Ballads version. Also if you watch lives she has been saying anata instead of mawari since 2000.

Delirium-Zer0 15th October 2005 07:29 PM

I said all that in my post, here... it has a side-by-side comparison of the lyrics too:

EDIT: umm... the images don't seem to be working for some reason. ~_~ i hope i don't have to upload them again =\

Yarumi 16th October 2005 12:39 AM

anyone have a pic of ayu's mom from backstage 2005?? Or is that on the 2005 whole ayu performance I dl?? ^^;;; goes and looks

Mad_Cactuar 17th October 2005 11:23 AM

wow, all the information here is too much.. i didnt know Ayu's mother existed in the first place, i thought it was her grandmother.. and i didnt realise the lyrics change.. But why would she ask her mother "why are you running away?" though.

Delirium-Zer0 17th October 2005 05:12 PM

I think that's ayu asking herself why she's running away, and where she's trying to go. (It's hard to say really since it doesn't say "you" or "me" there, it just says "why running?").. then again she could be asking her mother why she avoids talking about what happened, why is she running away from it. And where does she plan on it getting her ("doko made hashiru no").

Rebirthia 25th August 2006 12:32 PM

reviving this thread, perhaps is for her parents, bith mother and father, because they divorced, and in Japan...

Quote:

[...]by the way. "batsu-ichi" = once divorced. In Japanese "koseki," your family register, the spouse's name goes on it, and when you get divorced, they "cross it out" with a big "X." "X" = "batsu" in Japanese, and "ichi" is "one," so "divorced once."
credits: http://japan-guide.com/forum/quereadisplay.html?0+12249

so it could be the X of her father and the X of her mother

but if she daid that it could be for anyone, it would be that...

this was tip for everyone's mind ^^
