What's happening with Ayu?!
I don't want to say this at all, b/c Ayumi is my one and only but she's selling herself short! Ayumi's new album will be titled (miss)understood, and two songs that were supposed to be on this new album titled, Startin' and Rainy Day, but now they're going to be on a new single after the release of her new album, rumor or no rumor about Startin' and Rainy Day I don't care. She's falling off of her pedestal and she's losing her career. I'm so dissapointed to say this b/c i didn't even want to but I knew I would have to sooner or later, so I'd rather it'd be sooner.
|
You shouldnt put so much weight on the career of another person, you're going to get dissapointed! Don't worry, you'll always have her older music.
|
.. Have you watched the lives of B&D... does she look as awful to you as she does to me in that dress in the first two.. and those shoes.. whats up with the steletto heals ?? >.< and the dress.. and the way she stands like that, her legs all open and then she bends at the knees a little.. >.< it's just so awful..
uggggggggggggghhhhhhhh.. and Peco and.. Princess (is that her name?) her backup singers... they look awful in their dresses.. and then they stand with their legs all spread and if they are trying to be sexy/delicious its far from it... .. it borders on Trashy.. imho.. .. but i still love her voice.. i'm hating how she looks dark hair with it straight.. and the dress style.. and shoes.. |
whine whine whiiiiiiiine.
|
Look, just because her singles aren't selling as much as they did in 2001, that doesn't mean she's going to "fall off her pedestal". Good things don't last forever. She's been at (or near) the top of the Oricon charts since April of 1999, she can't stay there forever. It's not like she's going to die or anything. She's doing just fine.
Besides, you're being too negative. You're pointing out the bad things rather than the good things. She's won the Best Jeanist award five times in a row as of this year, and she doesn't have to compete anymore because she's in the Hall of Fame. Isn't that an accomplishment? Yes, it is. It's not like people are going to stop loving her music. You're just being WAY too negative and comparing her current sales to the ones back in the Duty era. |
people these days just complain and complain.
one word: pessimistic |
Well-said.
|
Like I've said before, Ayu doesn't really need to impress people anymore. She's been around for a long time, now it's time for her to do her own thing- and we as her fans should just respect that. If people aren't happy with her anymore, there's A LOT more artists out there to obssess over. :)
|
You should wait for the album.
I thought this batch of singles was pretty good (A-sides), except the dreaded 'B.A.D.'. Sure she's gone way down from 'Memorial address', but I think she's got some good songs left. I'm hoping for at least one standout album track. On a kind of unrelated note, but in relation to Yukiko-chan's comment, I think her hair looks rather nice, and so does she, though I can't say the same about her recent single. |
I think her hair looks nice when it's curled up.. but for some reason.. i just hate how it looks straight.. ah well. :P
the singing is still good.. and even tho B&D is weird.. I actually like it.. just her current look in the Lives for B&D is driving me batty.. hah |

wait i don't understand how she's gone "way down" why do people keep saying this? just because her singles are not selling ridiculous amounts? that doesn't mean anything, and you can't count on numbers anyways because they aren't accurate.
Just because Ayu is experimenting with different styles doesn't mean she's going down. It's because she's experimenting that people are getting all worked up. They don't like one particular style so they think she's all of a sudden "losing her career." All people have different tastes...some like ultra pop, some like rock, some like enka, and some don't like the others.. i wish people would be more open... |
Honestly, if all you people are going to complain, move onto another idol--- there are plenty of them who may be more "fresh" and to your liking. Ayu does what she does and she doesn't have to justify herself at all.
Granted, there are some saddening things to this whole career thing and for how long she's been up there--- but c'mon, what do you expect? Let her do her thing. If you really love her music, then you put up with it for the voice. Honestly- if all you're in is for looks and presentation, go for a different idol >.O |
Good points there. She's established as a diva and now can experiment and enjoy herself without worrying about losing her fanbase since she's got a stable fanbase. Plus avex doesn't dump artists even if they sell really badly something that Ayu doesn't do.

are you saying that you just watch the lives for how it sounds? might as well never bother watching and just wait for someone to make an mp3 rip of the sound.. the visual is part of the performance.. and how she dressed in them just wasn't appealing to me.. that's all. really i think it just the legs thing.. and the shoes.. i guess they just look off to me.. oh well.. go ahead, flame me if you want and think i'm a stupid person for having my opinion.. but it's just what i think.. i notice so many people can say things about how they dont like how she looks for such and such.. and no one goes climbing all over them like their evil.. i say this and all of a sudden.. and I'm NOT, AT ALL saying that her career is going down, or shes losing her career.. I just said I think she looks bad in the B&D lives.. Music wise? She's doing just fine.. Jesus.. can't even have a freaking opinion around here but pleanty of other people can i suppose right? :rolleyes |
Ummm... a song that is on the OST of a game always has a release that coincides with the game. You know, if this was not announced, it will be just like a new single after the album. It's probably not going to be on the album either, most likely the next one. So I don't see it as any problem at all. Her new next year single just go announced earlier than expected.
People keep going "I wish it was like the I am days where she releases a ton of singles" and she does, so she is not selling herself short, she is giving what everyone wants. Also, with the come back of remixes she is doing what people wanted. And also, if people think her sales are dropping, you just CANNOT compare her sales with the past, due to the droppage of sales throughout the whole industry due to illegal downloads. CD sales are just down in general, that's it. D: She's still debuting at number 1, so she's still going great to me. :3 |
just try to relax there xD It's just a matter of what you yourself think, because Ayu has been much more succesful in 2005 than she was in 2004! So her career is actually going up. Plus, a few years ago Ayu sold 700k with some of her singles (which is more than she does now, so you could say she did better back than), but those singles sometimes didn't even get the #1-position in oricon. While now it's so hard to sell so much, that 300k is more than enough to get a number 1 hit. xD

I really have to say that I think ayu is having fun and that's the most important part of doing a carreer like this. A lot of times you need to enjoy because the more u enjoy the more audience will accept it. And I really have to say that I actually HEART BOLD&DELICIOUS. I think it's fun and interesting. PLUS most importantly it's NOT ayu STYLE. The most important of an Artist is to evolve. Sometimes it may evolve too fast that people cannot accept it. However, I still believe that BOLD&DELICIOUS is a good thing for the Japanese music industry. I quote one of the things I read "nonthing changes when nonthing changes." And of course we don't want ayu always be the same ayu. She would get insane because we all grow. So I have to say start appreciate what she does because she is having FUN!!

let's put it this way: singing poorly, might as well not watch the live at all. |
..maybe it's just me... lol but if I don't like the way she's singing, I just stop the performance video. I never really notice what she's wearing or how her knees are bent :x

>.>
Rather off-topic... When Ayumi sang "M" on the CM for A MUSEUM, I thought it was horrible. Didn't sound anything like the original. |
^The version of M sang on A MUSEUM was the A BALLADS one if that's what you mean as "not being original" :/
|
Ayu's just doing fine at least for me, she's just changing her style right now and I welcome that.
even if that style differs from what she previously did (and doesnt quite fit your taste) she will most certainly grow with it and continue to surprise us by redefining herself sooner or later again :) so cheer up a bit! :yes |

"words of the day !!" :yes |
well, she´s doing what she can don´t have to high hopes for someone ;) just sit back and wait patiently for her to be releasing new stuff =)=)

I feel it too! That's why let me kiss your cheek! umm-nyaa! :ilukiss And I don't agree with UvegotMail! I think if Ayu is real superstar, she still MUST work hard and doesn't give up! Stay on top-or go away! You have to choose! Better to go away when you really need it and if you are tired, than to become a bad artist! IMO, Ayu is better to go away now, until it's not late! |

I agree with you! I absoluetly HATE B&D... but I have LOVED her other singles that she has put out... I can't wait to hear her album... I don't think one song should make us complain about the entire album... I don't like the title of her new album either.... however I haven't seen the cover and the only reason I don't like it is because it reminds me of a Pink rip-off... BUT Ayu always has a way of surprising us and I'm just hanging on hope that this title is used cleverly... perhaps through a song named after the album or just in the booklet itself... I wouldn't say Ayu is falling off her pedastool... Just because new upcoming artists are giving her a run for the top charts doesn't mean that these new artists will keep their popularity... Ayu has stayed on top for years... and has overcome many few-hit wonders. |
Oh please! Seems like people just care for numbers and when Ayu is not number 1 anymore they'll stop to like her.
And you guys overreact SO MUCH! I mean, any female artist can sell as much as Ayu on the first week, besides, maybe, Hikki (her last single didn't do well, but...) and aiko. BoA's singles sell in total the same as Ayu's first week. Besides, obviously her singles don't sell as much as they did in the past, because NOBODY sells as much in the past. In 2001, it was easy for everybody in top 10 to sell over 200,000 copies. And obviously, Ayu is not as popular as she was in 2001 but she's still the most popular. But, yeah, I hope Ayu retire soon. I love her music but she can't work like she's working. As we saw in that 2004 special, it's not good for her health. She's working NONSTOP since 1998. Plus, having Max Matsuura as her best-friend is not a good thing, because, for sure, he won't be the one saying to Ayu she's working too much, because Ayu is his number 1 artist and she still sell much more than the others on Avex, so he won't be supporting her decision to retire anytime soon, because she's still selling alot. |

|
oh my, what is that?? fans bashing ayu?? ;)
oh well, I guess things go up and down. Ayu is working so hard, there isn't much space between her albums, so she is working really fast!! plus keep in mind that she has serious health problems, (ear) and sometimes even problems with avex, but she's still going strong. she doesn't have to please -everybody everytime-. Don't you think she deserves to please herself with the stuff that she does? she is so famous and has done so much music and she still isn't out of ideas. why shouldn't she experiment? do you guys want another "my story" "rainbow", "add random album name here"?? I bet not. So you see, even madonna had a few "bad albums" if you will, but her latest one is a chart breaker again. and another plus: I don't think shes becoming less popular (we heart that rumor for a few years now and she's still around) She still gets offers to do music for movies and PS-games, so she's still wanted. though I don't like B&D myself, who knows what she's thinking of next?? I don't say "you mustn't say anything negative about ayu", but i think some of you are being too harsh too fast. 3 "bad songs" in your opinion and she's not popular anymore? come on ^____^; wait for the album, prelisten and see. |
[QUOTE=andre2907]Oh please! Seems like people just care for numbers and when Ayu is not number 1 anymore they'll stop to like her.
QUOTE] I personally don't care whether or not she's number 1. It's all about thw way she's promoting her releases. Don't get me wrong, but her Step You, Fairyland, and Heaven promotions are great, but she's not doing so well with promoting Bold & Delicious her english may sound cute in the song but on the lives it's totally different. I'm worried about her album and how she's promoting that and how she's going to promote a single that was originally supposed to be on the new album. I'm not bashing her at all, I'm just feeling sorry for her. Utada's been promoting her singles as if she was a professional at it, and her song Passion and the pv for it has just hit the top for me. I'm not going to give up on Ayu, b/c I'm sure soon enough she'll go back to the way she was, and the way her music was. |
Quote:
She IS working hard and not giving up, her sales aren't as great as before,, but atleast she's still trying to release new material for us. You're not even done listening to a song before she's out with another one. You still see her on all these new covers, traveling to so many places, I don't even know how the poor girl has time to sleep. It's not Ayu who needs to go away, to most of the fans, she's still great- almost everyone loves one or another of her new releases. Maybe it's the fans that don't appreciate all her efforts anymore that should go away :D |
Sometimes i wonder what were some people's view of ayu in her earlier days...I have the feeling some of them thought of her as a perfect goddess without flaws, and now that they realize she has lots of imperfections, they end up getting extremely deceived and start to wish that ayu will just leave her career. ayu was never perfect, people who live to much in her past aren't even bothering to listen to her old songs anymore because they've grown tired but still they struggle to their best to prove that the earlier works were by far much better. In her earlier career she had average songs as well, but a lot of people just got to know ayu only after she already had 3-4 albums so they were exposed all at once to a lot of amazing songs (so many that they wouldn't even notice the average songs), and that got into their impression that EVERYTHING from her earlier career was extremely much better than any of her recent releases. What do they want? to compare LOVeppears + Duty + I am...+ RAINBOW + Memorial address + MY STORY -including all the songs in them- and say that those were much better than a single song Bold & Delicious? Sometimes i have the impression that by each new song ayu releases, some people just pick all of ayu's past songs together and confront them against that single new song alone (kinda like these 245 songs together are much better than this new one, proof that ayu is declining, nonsense, obviously).
UvegotMail said something really true. Why do some people want ayu leave instead of releasing things they considerer to be bad? They should be the ones to stop listening to her. It shows that people just live by appearances, they want to live in the "ayu was always the perfect singer", which is absurd. If ayumi wanted to sing a bunch of horrid crap songs that irritated me, I wouldn't wish for her to leave, I would just simply stop listening to her. She can sing anything she wants and i'm glad at the moment, i'm really enjoying what she's been releasing but the moment she makes something I don't like I won't bother being shocked and saying how much she has declined or that she's better just leave. |
Quote:
plus I don't think Utada's been promoting so good... I actually don't think her new song is better than her older songs... and the PV was not as great as her past PV's... that's my opinion Ayu's music has always been changing though... it's evolved through the years... I thought that's why we all loved Ayu? |

Ayu's got at least 7 lives. how about magazines? Ayu's going for 8. I don't know how many Utada's going to have, since her single hasn't even come out yet. You shouldn't assume Utada's promotion is better when she hasn't even performed yet. |
exactly as above, Utada seems to be promoting her singles as if they were not released at all.. :// she barely did any lives for Be My Last... where are her tours, concerts??...
and you're all just exaggerating here.... geeeez, HOW can you judge what the album/music's gonna be like after the TITLES ??????????? the fact you didn't like one single/song doesn't mean she's floping.... talk about pre-judgement... |
Im not entirely sure what everyones argument lol... I'm coming in a lil late but I thought id give me two cents :cool
No one lasts forever, not even Ayu, but as long as shes doing what she does, we should all be happy Most artsist put out one album every 3 years or so, Ayu busts her chops for us, So she puts out something you dont like, big deal, in 2 weeks there will be another one :rolleyes Even if Ayu isnt "the same old ayu" so? artists/people/everybody changes. I respect her for being brave enough to do what she wants. Shes just trying to express herself, maybe we should all try to put ourselves in her shoes. :yes I really dont think Ayu cares if shes number one in the whole wide world. If she did she'd be sticking to teh formula like alot or artists do. I think she just does it because she likes it, and hopes her fans will enjoy it. :friends Before I even kwo who she as I liked hers ongs, it wanst until later that I found out shes mega popular in Japan, did that make me go "WOW I LOVE HER EVEN MORE!!!" no lol, in 5/10/20 years when Ayu retires (and yes lets get back to reality people :rolleyes) will I still listen to her? yeah of course. People listen to their old rock bands from teh 70's still and love it more than recent stuff. Why should it be different with hers? :shrug if that was offtopic oh well lol. :rolleyes |
Wow this is getting dramatic. Don't like her music? Don't listen to it. It's tiring hearing "fans" always whine of how her quality of her music is declining and how they don't like an outfit or how she made her make up... geez have you seen her hairstyle during Surreal? She looked like a ridiculous Barbie doll to me at some events with that puffy hair. Yet I did not care since I enjoyed Ayu for her music and not for these tiny insignificant details. And she was insanely popular.
She has spent 7 years in the music industry. And yes people are probably bored of her, teens have grown up and probably a new generation is about. New artists are around, new genres are more popular, times have changed. You cannot expect her to stay on top forever. It's absolutely impossible. Yet she's still the Queen of Pop. In 2005 she has been the top female seller beating Mika with her NANA gimmicks, Ai with her rising fanbase, BoA (who everyone claimed she shall replace Ayu) and Kumi with her best album and all those singles. This is according to stzr3 @ AHO. And also I must say that even if everyone claims how she's sinking blablabla...who did the Shinobi administration choose to sing their theme song? And who did that game choose as a singer to sing the opening and ending song? And why does the huge brand of Panasonic still hold her as a spokesewoman? And why was she chosen as the queen of ballads and scored in 6 out of 12 polls for female charm, etc? And also why is there a hall of fame for Ayu for the Best Jeanist Award? Also why does she perform more than any other artists in A-Nation and is the most visited artist in avex's websites? Honestly if she was losing her popularity she wouldn't get any of these sort of things. I don't care if a million people love her or only five do. Sure it makes me happy when she hits #1 on Oricon but I still love her music nonetheless. I enjoy every single release of hers and have fun instead of whining how her career is sinking. I think the problem is that many people love Ayu simply because she is popular and has got this queen status. As Impact has mentioned they put her on a pedestal and worship this "perfect" image of hers and when they discover she's not perfect or find a single which they do not like... they run off to chase the new trend like sheep. Ayu has always worked hard to please her fans - she has had ear problems, emotional problems and she barely has a normal private life as we do with those tabloids posting rubbish about her. Most artists wouldn't give a fig about their fans like Ayu does. She even visited her fans when she recovered after she was ill during A-Nation. She has suffered so much just to make her fans happy and it does tick me off to hear people saying she should retire and leave simply because you hate one single song or because some stupid tabloid is claiming how so and so artist is gonna replace Ayu. Because I'm sure she'd feel hurt if she heard that after all the effort she has done in all these years. It's not the end of the world if she's not the queen anymore. |

Ayu is just at the point where she can do almost anything with the years she has been in the industry. Ayu may be decreasing in sales but not so much that she still wont have the number 1 spot, she is always releasing new material (who wants to hear the same type of music over and over and over...), and who gives a **** of what other people say. It's their opinion. We still love her. we're still her number 1 fans, and most of us supported her since the beginning. Her fanbase is still huge so I don't know whats the whole talk about what's happenin with her.
|
OMG. More complains...
Why can't people just accept what they get and shut the **** up? Everybody is being so damn dramatic about every little detail! Gees, yes the title is "(miss)understood". So what? It's just the title! Some fans are so damn demanding. And because they don't get what THEY want, they complain? Get over it. Seriously... *Demure_Dusk, completely agree with everything you wrote! |

Same as you said Link... when I first started listening to Ayu I didn't know she was big ( well she was starting to get big) but I loved her music And I was gonna say exactly what you said about Utada's promotion as you Dustie... but I didn't wanna get flamed... so :cheers for saying what I wanted to say :D |
There is no reason to be taking out your frustrations over this topic on the fans who don't like what Ayumi's been releasing as of late. There's room for discussion and reasonable arguments over why Ayumi is declining or why Ayumi is still on top of her game. But it's just so negative to say some people are whiny or aren't "real fans" and it's rude to tell them to shut up, just like how it's rude to say fans who always like Ayumi are mindless followers. Keep up the finger pointing and I'll be inclined to close threads like this.
|
um her looks doesnt effect her good music shes competing with other singers that are in the same record deal ehhhhh?
|
Well, when I look at her now, she seems so much more cheery than before. I think she truely gained more confidence in what she does (look at her dancing around silly in B&D! XD). So even if her sales may not be going along with it, she is making the career worth the while. ;] Don't forget she's a workaholic. and I quote from Max Matsuraa "Ayu never half-asses anything" ;D
|
I think that's what's most important about Ayu's music- that she's so much more confident now, to actually experiment with different types of music and such, and not be afraid of what people will think .:)
|
Yeah! go Demure_Dusk! Well said.
Seriously, (miss) understood, it's literally JUST an album title, it's not even the content of the album. It is really insignificant. It's really funny, yet disappointing to see people getting all pessimistic over a title? Her career is not declining, YOUR minds are! You're standards are obviously too high for her because you simply think that she is a perfect idol. That's totally untrue, no one is perfect in this world alright? Everyone makes mistakes or does things that other might no like. But dont forget there are also others who support her 100% To the people who started bashing about her, please think about how Ayu would think if she ever reads this or something like that. She doesn't need anymore stupid opinions from anything else to repeat what others have already said about her [mainly tabloids]. It's not like I'm trying to prove your opinions wrong, simply trying to enlighten you. You guys should respect what ayu had sacrifice for us, instead of bashing and whining about things that she's done which you dislike. Have faith in her. |
