Okay... i know it's prolly pointless to ask here, but here I go anyway... :)

Is Ayu overrated?

well i'm asking coz i was reading stuff about Ayu on someone's blog. anyway I just wanna know what you guys think :D

I'm not insulting ayu or anything... just curious :yes

she just getting the attention she deserves

Ayu will rock eternally lol but seriously, i'm wondering how long she will be BIG ya kno? i hope forever... i mean, i don't see her coming down anytime soon... *shrugs*

Only thing overrated about ayu are some of her songs...

no she's not overrated...its true, ayu is getting just the attention she deserves. In fact, i think some people, especially in the places where her popularity is decreasing, are forgetting the effort that ayu puts into her music, and in all those PVs that have double meanings, and the fact that she is extremely successful after "failing" at school and modeling(professionally) and not living a "traditional" life(especially in japan), is an incredible feat, most people would fail miserably. I think Ayu deserves all the attention she gets...she's truly talented, although some of her songs are way overrated, think of all the ones you can listen to whenever without ever getting tired of them, and all of her styles...i'd like to see people like Beyonce and Brittany Spears (JUST examples) all of a sudden switch to rock music, or country...and get away with it.

Ayu has been out and working hard for so long, she is not overrated. at least in Japan she is not because Ayu does not tend to be the top fav of teenagers anymore.

It seems that many people don't like Ayu cos she's popular and thus judge her as empty, 'mainstream trash' and it's uncool to like 'mainstream trash'.

i believe Ayu is not overrated because you can tell how dedicated she is to music and she worked her way up to achieve wat she's achieved now, it wasnt easy for her

but some people who i know do think she's overrated, because they think that it's her looks that make her popular and her voice is just bad....and i think many people who hate Ayu are just jealous because Ayu is probably on top of their favourite artists

no I dont think Ayu's overrated at all. I havent listened to any artist for as long as I listen to her music now and I still dont get tired of her :)

Hmm, I don't know how people treat her in Japan... I've always wondered if it was like big stars like Britney Spears or someone gets treated in America... in other words they either really like her... or really hate her... not much in between

I don't think she is overrated... of course I am biased... All I know is she releases like crazy... composes some of her music, has written all her lyrics... and is a great performer... thats all I need :yes

Honestly I love Seasons. I didn't at first but i really listened to it. I don't think that song is overrated. Although i am starting to like HEAVEN i think THAT song was overrated but glad to see even her "crap" is gold....lol

overrated.....hmm...I wonder if people 'overrate' songs just becuase they're 'popular' or because they REALLY like them, the first time i ever heard M [a couple years ago] I was in absolute awe, It was just so beautiful

but I do agree with Rody!, no matter how good or bad of songs she has, she's still Ayu, and they'll still be popular as long as she herself is.

I don´t think she´s overrated she´s been striving to be something higher than what she is now so I think she deserves this kind of attention let´s say "she´s like the sperm trying to get to an egg and she was the lucky one and made it" :P

Maybe in 2001-2 she was overrated but I must say she worked insanely hard and sacrified so many things to get to the level of popularity she was.

I think because of how much popularity she has now, people may think she's overrated, but she had sacrificed so much to get to the top. I can't believe how long she kept her reign though... but still, how many people can pull off almost every genre they touch? she deserves the attention for doing that.

and BTW, i love SEASONS. that song has a special meaning to me. first Ayu song ever. lol.

Lots of these detractors probably haven't even truly given Ayu's music a chance.

One reason why I like Ayu is because she really has a Midas touch, those songs that I hate tend to grow on me all of a sudden like AUDIENCE and evolution.

Not really considering just as many people hate her as they do love her.

yep, some people haven't even heard Ayu's music. Sometimes when ure friend relli hates Ayu they tend to only tell you the bad things about Ayu so that makes more people hate Ayu

and yeah! Ayu's music relli grows on you!

i dont think she is overrated. i even think that she is underrated. she deserves more than what she is getting now!!! of course, i do agree that some songs are definitely overrated like SEASONS and M.

The word "overrated", I think, is too misused. I personally think it's just a way to dislike something without a reason.

She was in the begin of her career because her voice wasnt good at all especially in lives but the music was catchy, I dont think she is overrated now, I still didnt hear Secret but it seems to be good, anyway yeah with songs like Bold and Delicious/Pride, Startin' and Beautiful Fighters she is overrated since the songs were bad if u compare to her older songs but she got number 1.

Truthfully, I do not think ayumi is overrated- HOWEVER, alot of her songs are sometimes overrated.

She is devoted with her lyrics, always try to get across positive messages to her listeners, creative with her concerts and music videos, and simply put she is a brilliant woman- she deserves the attention that she is getting.

People who dislike a singer will always say they're overrated if an immense number of people like them...

this guy i know who used to never listened to any japanese music told me that one day he d/led BoA, Utada, Koda kumi and Ayu's album and he said Ayu's album had the best songs! without any bias towards those artist in the first place

It's just two words, overrated is a tad negative-ish, so people who might not be fans of the artists in question might like to use it. Anyone who, in general, thinks she's got too many fans or isn't good enough for the attention can use it.

It would be used regardless, in reality it's a word that doesn't mean anything, but it upsets people when they hear it.

duuuuude, ayu is NEVER overrated. she's just unique, unafraid to experiment, and gets away with so much b/c she's mega cute, multi-talented, already a big music icon and her voice is addicting. she deserves all the attention for many reasons: she writes her own incomparably beautiful lyrics that aren't cheesy with [random] english lyrics (dude, if u write japanese songs, stick to japanese, if u write english songs, stick to english or you'll sound cheesy/fruity/pathetic), composes/produces some of her music, makes so many companies rich like panasonic, vise kose, tu-ka, marinaga hi-chew and so on... so many!!! also, for her hard work, her love for her fans, and doesn't over exposes her sex appeal (like *cough*kumi*cough*) dude, you can be sexy and hot without looking like a raccon lookin ho. ayu can pull it off lookin clean still (ex: Startin' MV) the number of ppl who love her drown out those who dislike her, totally. whoever dislikes her are just jealous b/c she has it all. she's irreplaceable. other artists try a bit too hard and look like scarecrows. ayu looks down-to-earth, is herself, has life-changing/encouraging music, and has a non-****ty fashion taste. like Max Matsuura had said, he can never find anyone like Ayumi anymore and he absolutely feels fortunate to be her manager, therefore, this also means that it'll take FOREVER to bring Ayu down. She has the world. No one will and can take her place. Whatever Ayu comes out with, it always eventually turns gold... as someone said above... somewhere XP

I don't think Ayu is overrated. NEVER.

Last night, masa said to me Ayu's lyrics are great of course, and actually on a higher level than any other artists in Japan. Her original lyrics are so excellent and poetic. So I think Ayu is really talented.

She is the top girl of Avex and she is the most popular female singer in Japan. Some detractors think Ayu is not good because she doesn't compose all her song (they don't know who is CREA ^^) Although Ayu rarely compose but she has a lot of awesome songs by herself such as: M, Endless sorrow, Will... I think her music is great actually.

Some people thinks she is popular because she's fashionable. Is it bad? No. I'm very proud of Ayu because of that. I can see her always beautiful and cute.

And yes, they probably haven't even truly given Ayu's music a chance. I hope they can see Ayu's concert. I enjoy Ayu's concert very much, I think she really loves her fan, she always thinks amazing things to make them feel very highly in her liveshow. She performances wholeheartedly. I haven't never stopped myself cry when I saw she cried at the end of the liveshow. I have seen a lot of other artits concert, but noone can't make me feel happy like Ayu.

Ayu deserves all the attention she gets... she's truly talented.
