Music to sleep

Well, I have this habit... I like to listen to music untill I fall asleep (my mp3 player has a timer function :lech )
Lately, I've been getting kinda tired of my "sleep playlist".
So: do you know any songs that are calm enough to make you relax?

I listen to Akino Arai's "Tsuki kara no inori to tomo ni" a lot... It's calm and powerful at the same time. :love

Mad_Cactuar 28th January 2006 03:59 PM

Me too, I listen until I sleep.

I hate calm music when I'm sleeping. The most often spinned before bedtime song for me is Gwen Stefani's Danger Zone.. Or something rockier..

The calmest I try is Tori Amos' emo stuff. All piano and wailing.

Relaxing is a whole different story. I love Ken Hirai's stuff. Grandfather's Clock rules!

chibi_sunny 28th January 2006 04:07 PM

there's this chinese song that i like (dont know the name) which i really like...sounds like a lullaby.
I'll upload it if anyone wants a listen: http://s40.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=3...40GWC0QU0V2GLU
its very sweet and calming..unfortunately, i have no idea what they're saying--other than the chorus when they sing in English!

i also like the Fruits Basket theme songs--they sound very much like lullabies.

Bazaa 28th January 2006 04:16 PM

chibi_sunny: I'm in love with the song! I think I'll try it tonight! I also have the Fruits Basket OP on my playlist!

MC Tatsujin: I listen to calm music mainly because I can't have the music playing very loud - my mother wakes up when I cough, so you can have an ideia how much silence we must have at night >< Calm songs aren't noticed by others so easily XD

Raleigh 28th January 2006 04:21 PM

Enya, Yoko Kanno or some soundtrack.

*Petit* 28th January 2006 04:32 PM

I used to listen to the second half of Ayu-mi-x IV (Acoustic Orchestra) before I went to sleep. The end version of Who... is perfect before sleeping.

sexysaucestar 28th January 2006 05:34 PM

I like Nakashima Mika, Kanno Youko, and Arai Akino when it comes to sleep/relaxing music. :) I used to put my CD player into sleep mode when I was *still* afraid of the dark a bit..x_x; But nowadays I just listen to my iPod right before I go to sleep...I listen to my iPod and write in my paperback journal to calm myself before sleeping.

hi chibi sunny, the chinese song, is titled 有梦好甜蜜 (You Meng Hao Tian Mi) which means, it's sweet to have a dream.

hana_sanctuary 28th January 2006 06:09 PM

I listen to the final CD of the Final Fantasy X OST~ ends wonderfully with that one song from the game ((name escaping me now)) in an accoustic orchestra version. Very calming~

I also listen to A BALLADS sometimes.

But making my own mix is perfect. It includes Dir en Grey's "Kasumi", Ayu's "Rainy Day", Koda Kumi's "Feel" and other nice things like that. It's very nice ^_^

I don't have any sleep suggestiongs^^''
but to anyone who knows for ipods, how do you set up "sleep" timers?

sxesven 29th January 2006 09:07 PM

If you need music to sleep, try Brian Eno's Ambient 1/Music For Airports.

Ayu_desu 29th January 2006 09:13 PM

Ayaka Hirahara - Ashita

sora-kara 30th January 2006 03:10 AM

I like to listen to Keiko Matsui's jazz-fusion piano stuff. Excellent for sleeping to!

Also, Hajime Chitose has an incredibly relaxing effect on me. Particularly her Shima Kyora Umui album. The best sleeps I've had I've drifted off hearing that album.

The Millenium actress OST is also good.

So are many of Bonnie Pink's and Maaya Sakamoto songs.

You know....I made a couple of mixed discs of relaxing music....I'll see if I can find them and let you know what's on them...or upload them..whatever....

PSYCHEDELICOdust 30th January 2006 07:38 PM

Ai Otsuka's LOVE COOK album is relaxing, same for Mika Nakashima's MUSIC.

Of course I'm kinda weird and can go to sleep with Hello! Project concerts blaring.

Sweer 30th January 2006 07:39 PM

for me anything that I can relate to will work if I'm tired enough ^^

but of course with some soothing tunes it is easier to fall asleep than with some upbeat track

krishna 3rd February 2006 07:37 AM

All songs from The Diary of Alicia Keys always make me relax.
Sometimes,I play it when I can't sleep.

Any ballad is nice. Especially one with white noise. Mmmm.

HanabiChick 5th February 2006 10:32 AM

Sometimes I listen to Ayu songs to relax me if I'm having trouble getting to sleep, I also listen to some classical music, I especially like Bach or Vivaldi's Four Seasons for that.

chibi_sunny 5th February 2006 10:31 PM

i dont listen to music when i go to sleep...i just think about different things as i fall asleep. but most of the time, i'm pretty tired, so going to sleep is no problem.

Calico 6th February 2006 01:07 AM

I don't listen to songs to go to sleep at night, but I LOVE to listen to them on the way to school in the morning, since I like to sleep then. =P

Mostly I listen to dance/trance music. If it has a steady beat, then it's easy for me to sleep to. Confessions on a Dancefloor, AROUND THE WORLD, Daft Punk, etc... are all great for me. Plus on the way home when I'm wide awake I have an awesome CD to jive to!

Otherwise I like to listen to New Age/Ethereal kind of stuff. Never listen to Enya, really, but Sarah Brightman, Loreena McKennitt, and RURUTIA are all amazing in this department. I also like to listen to smooth hip-hop like Queen of Hip-Pop.

And I'm horrible at falling asleep in the car with this music on...like today. :laugh

LacusClyne 9th February 2006 06:19 AM

my latest lullaby, is ayu's theme of a-nation03.

cleftjuston 9th February 2006 09:03 AM

no, i don't know of any songs that make you fall asleep

Mad_Cactuar 9th February 2006 10:22 AM

Songs that make you fall asleep. Hmmm. Coldplay's Fix You is incredibly boring and sleepy at times. Listening to it without raging enthusiasm makes you knock out.

momobean 9th February 2006 01:57 PM

KOKIA's singing is really soothing. I also listen to Nakashima Mika's LOVE album sometimes. I think Matsu Takako's Harvest Songs album would be good as well but I haven't tried it yet..

thinkingoutloud89 9th February 2006 03:48 PM

Koda Kumi - you
Namie Amuro - Never End

devilayu 9th February 2006 03:55 PM

Classical music, definitely. My favorite is Chopin. Other than that, I used to go to sleep listening to the radio (Top 40, pop) but I don't really sleep while listening to music anymore.

I've been told in the past by a friend that the Sailormoon soundtracks I lent her were good to sleep to. XD

Princess_Of_Roses 9th February 2006 05:33 PM

Slow sad songs put me to sleep....Tears by X-Japan puts me to sleep crying >.< !! ...soothing songs..mostly ballads i love ^___^..1000 words i always would go to sleep too >.<

mmm! kokia is reallyyy good. so is matsu takako. ohhh you have to listen to harvest songs!!! my favorite is "26:00"

Vinylfantasy 10th February 2006 05:11 AM

I can fall asleep to basically anything, but when I want to just get in a relaxing mood, I usually end up listening to something instrumental or downtempo. A good chill/downtempo album usually does me just fine, atmospheric drum and bass is really nice too. It depends what sort of mood I'm in.

artists:
-Delerium
-Olive
-Photek
-LTJ Bukem

Bazaa 10th February 2006 11:06 AM

Oh my, I forgot to check this thread for a while XD Thanks everyone for the suggestions!
Now I'm into piano solos... I find them quite relaxing to sleep, while I don't like them much to listen daily XD

Keishi 10th February 2006 12:54 PM
