who likes Bjork?

as for me...I LOVE HER TO DEATH!!! her music is so creative and she sings so unique and pretty. Not to mention the killer outfits she has (props on the swan dress) my favorite song by her is I've seen it all, her and Thom Yorke make an awesome duet together.

Mad_Cactuar 7th February 2006 02:17 PM

I do lots. Except I hate Medulla. Fave is Vespertine, fave song is "Generous Plamstroke" and "Bachelorette". THE BEST SONG FROM HER EVER IS "BACHELORETTE"!!! Its so bloody awesome.

ohsixthirty 7th February 2006 04:30 PM

i love bjork too, but i wasn't a fan of Medulla.

has anyone seen the movie she was in, "Dancer in the Dark?" i loved it! :yes

DarkShaolin 7th February 2006 04:44 PM

I like her too ^^

Vinylfantasy 7th February 2006 04:46 PM

Bjork's so badass XD *thinks of Margaret Cho's Bjork impression*

she did a bjork impression? i've not seen it!!!

Rins-chan 7th February 2006 05:30 PM

I love her to death... I do not know how it exactly started because some years back I did not like her very much... I was not even interested in her... and then I saw a video (I think it was the OCEANIA video) and I really disliked it.
But back in October last year somehow I listened to her Greatest Hits CD and I loved it so much. A frined gave me her "debut" and I really came to love her music. I also like "Medúlla" very very very much. I also got the limited two DVD edition and it is soooooo great in DD 5.1 XD

JimmyKoria 7th February 2006 08:43 PM

Hyper Ballad is her best song ever :[ it's like crack to my ears. Homogenic in general is my favorite album. I got more bjork DVDs than CDs though :x

Corybobory 7th February 2006 10:10 PM

I remember the first music video I ever saw when I first got Much Music was 'Human Behavior', and it scared me to death! lol... scary bears running around in the forest... 8 year old Cory...

My loce for her started instantly after watching the video, its so cool/ethereal/freaky/nonsensical/artful/cool and there's jellyfish in it!!

bondingo 7th February 2006 10:32 PM

I just recently got into Bjork. I couldn't stand her when I first heard her, but I absolutely love her now. I own Post, Homogenic, Vespertine, and Medulla and I like them all. She's just so amazingly unique in her voice, clothing style, and lyrics and I absolutely love that about her. My favorites songs would probably have to be Hyperballad, Joga, Bachelorette, and Oceania. I also think that her music videos are awesome as well. I especially like Oceania, Army of Me, Cocoon, and All is Full of Love. And yes, Human Behavior's MV is really freaky (as well as I Miss You).

I like Bjork, but I can't listen to her continuously for an extended period.

ayu3657 8th February 2006 11:08 PM

I'm not a crazy fan of hers, but I was really interested in Medulla because Mike Patton contributed vocals on that album, and he is my absolute favorite vocalist EVER.

appears 8th February 2006 11:45 PM

id only heard its oh so quiet and wasnt2impresst back in 1996 but then my cousin introduced me2post and ive been a fan ever since.
she totally rocks, her music videos are gr8, the fact she is able 2write such amazing lyrics with english not even her 1st language is incredible, plus she kicks ass live as well.
her performance in dancer in the dark was exceptional also, although that film is majorly depressing.
i wish i could speak icelandic2figure out what shes saying in some songs

slashess 9th February 2006 12:26 AM

oh dancer in the dark is such a good movie...Bjork is quite the actress too. She said however she wouldnt really appear in many movies despite her being a good actress.

Rins-chan 9th February 2006 11:02 PM

My fave songs are so many and they are chaning from time to time. But may all-time-faves are:

Bachelorette
Isobel
There's more to life than this
Who is it
All Is Full Of Love
It's not up to you

I really really really love her lives. She is soooo amazing. Not only that she sounds great on her records. First I avoided to buy live albums and DVDs by her because I was a bit afraid she would not sound that great live. But when I read some articles about her lives and that she used to perform for more than 20 years I bought her DVD "Life at Royal Opera House" and I was so impressed and touched that I nearly cried. It's crazy. But I never was touched that deeply by any other artist.

My fave videos are:
Violently Happy
Army of Me
Cocoon
Pagan Poetry
Venus as a Boy (I read that this is something like Bjorks piece of work for the feminist movement - really crazy)

I also got her 1991 Jazz album "Gling Gló" with Icelandic interpretations of international Jazz hits and also a live recording from this album and it's really funny and I love Icelandic language and somehow it is a bit similar to German older languages and I think I'll take a course to learn it after I'm through with my Japanese.

i am not a die hard fan of bjork, but i definitely listen to many of her songs. i have a lot of respect for her, because her music is so unique, and her singing style is so special. there is simply no other artist who can manage the same as bjork has. i mean, if you let any other singer sing bachelorette or pagan poetry, it simply would not work!

my fave:
bachelorette
joga
alarm call

PickleCookies 13th February 2006 01:01 AM

Björk rocks. I love her music. :thumbsup

JackieRos 13th February 2006 01:14 AM

all her albums are my favorite she's such a great poet and producer

my MOST favorite album has to be "Medulla" evrything was made by voice effects

MY FAVORITE VIDEO WAS "PAGAN POETRY"
i think that video was an art

thing is that i wont be obssesed with bjork beacuse a guy was so obssessed with her and when he found out that bjork had a boyfriend (or something like that) he shot himself while watching the video "I Miss You"

appears 13th February 2006 04:24 AM

Deep snow 13th February 2006 08:46 AM

Bjork? i like her, the Greatest Hits album is sooo great, i like most of her classics, her new songs aren't as good as the previous ones IMO, but i bought medulla and i love it

slashess 14th February 2006 12:36 AM

hehe, she's an icelandic singer who's been around for quite some time. The reason why she isnt really too popular is because her music isn't really mainstream. go here for more info

http://www.bjork.com

ps. she's really popular from when she beat up this reporter in Bangkok, Thailand

I already listened to the Drawing Restraint 9 OST but I was really disappointed. It's so weired and there is one instrument which really makes my head ache.
But there are also some nice little moments in between.
I do not know so much about the movie. Only that it is the first movie she took a role in since Dancer in the Dark and the director is her lover. The movie is without any dialouge and speech so only the soundtrack and the actions performed by the actors. I do not really know what it is a bout but as far as I know it was just something like an experiment by the director and it is part of the same named Japanese exhibition and that's why Bjork tried to put some traditional Japanese influences in the soundtrack. But somehow in my oppinion it did not work so well. But it's okay. Nothing you could listen to every day but from time to time.

slashess 14th February 2006 05:04 PM

hmm...I think that reporter deserved that beating by Bjork

Rins-chan 14th February 2006 11:20 PM

The thing with the reporter was that Bjork came there and was really tired and did not want to give an interview and so the reporters were ask to take their cameras off but they did not. And because Bjork was not willing to talk to the reporter the reporter wanted to talk to Sindri and asked something like: Isn't it hard to have a mother as selfish as yours?
And that was the point why she went mad and hit the reporter.
Later she wanted to appologise to Sindri but he just said something like: It's okay mom, but next time first think and then act. Would have been better to hit the man with the camera first.
I know this from a very nice little book about Bjork by Evelynn McDonnel called "Army of She" (as far as I know is this the English title).

ugh, i love bjork almost as much as i love pie.

and i love pie plenty.

Rins-chan 19th February 2006 03:35 PM

*gg* that's cool Rainmaker... ^-^

Bjork will also release a new mixed version of her old albums in 5.1 surround sound on DVD... I am really excited about that because I LOVE "Medúlla" as 5.1 version (there was an audio DVD playable on every DVD-Player with the Limited DVD Edition of Medúlla ^-^)

Did anyone watch her concert at "Vespertine" performed on the stage of Royal Opera House in London? I love this concert to death... it was the first concert I watched and listened to and I only bought the DVD because it was a special sale in that store o_O and then I nearly cried because it was sooooo great!
I would love to see her live in real live.
I also watched the "Medúlla" performce for CANAL+ and it was really really really great. But there she sad in an interview that she will not tour this album. She will tour some songs of it with her next album. But since she takes some driving lessons for a big ship (she plans to go on a journey arround the world by ship with her family) I'm afraid the new album will take a while and since there were no further information on it I am really sceptical if it will really be released this year... but good Bjork always has some surprises for her fans like the new versions of her albums... so wait and see :)
I'd be really happy about a brand new album release XD

i was there!! it was unbelieveably amazing!!!
i paid &75 for a ticket, but it was worth every penny, it was so intense, i got goosebumps when she performed "all is full of love" & "unison" (one of my alltime favourite songs of hers"
bono from u2 & pj harvey were also in da audience... bono turned up late n kept us waiting a bit thou hahaha...
she is one of the most incredible live performers thou, she is one of the only artists i know who is like a million times better live than the actual cd, it was an experience of a lifetime... still havent managed2get da dvd thou >_< i want it so bad...

Rins-chan 20th February 2006 05:09 PM

T-T you really were there T-T how I envy you. I would really really really really like to see her live. But as I heard she doesn't like Germany that much and from her gigography I know that there were only a few concerts in Germany in the past (one year there was even none here) and when she tours here she is in Frankfurt or somewhere else where it would be too expensive to get and her tickets cost more than 100€ (approx. 66 British Pound) but going by train and so so on would cost double more T-T
I really believe that her concerts must be great. I was so impressed by the DVD and when I listen to her live recordings o_O GREAT!

I got her "MTV Unplugged" DVD for my birthday and I already watched it a little. It was really nice and she wore a short yellow dress. She was really young back then but her voice was grat a always. But I think I like the Bjork of today more than the younger one.

I'm a huge Bjork fan myself!

Been listening to her for years and years, though I actuaily hated her voice when I first heard her lol...

Now some of you on this here site may have mega Ayu collections... "you have my envy ;-)" But I doubt any of you have a Bjork collection as extensive as mine lol.

I have... well... everything!
Everything "Tappi" ever released, both KUKL's (though I'm still searching for the KUKL- ala france tape), everything of the Sugarcubes, Gling Glo, and everything Bjork released solo. Also have everything on vinyl!?! :D I actuaily prefer the Sugarcubes period though.

But if I had to choose between Ayu & Bjork... I'd have to pick Ayu :)

That's something I cannot understand because both are so different an unique that I would never dare to compare them or even make a choice. I think both have their time. Sometimes I cannot listen to Bjork and sometimes I am really not in the mood for Ayus music.

According to the the latest indieWIRE Box Office Table (iWBOT), Drawing Restraint 9 was the second highest earner when it opened exclusively at New York's IFC Center during the weekend. The film is distributed IFC and their vice president Mark Boxer, says:

"Drawing Restraint 9 opened very strongly to an $18,000 weekend number and a five-day total of over $27,000 at the IFC Center in New York. Matthew Barney and Björk have a built-in audience of extremely dedicated fans that have made the opening of the film feel like a special event. Lines were down the block as 'Restraint' sold out shows from its opening Wednesday through Sunday. There was an even mix between men and women, and the age range was predominantly younger than 35. The film will roll out slowly with Chicago as the only new market opening this Friday."

It isn't... actually is is written BjÖrk! I think for English speakers, non-German and non-Scandinavian it is a bit difficult. I try to explain how it is actually pronounced:

Ö is spoken like [ø] or [œ] ->http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C3%96
The R after Ö is spoken like rolled R or rolling R or alveolar trill [r] ->http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alveolar_trill

so it is b-y[œ][r]k

You may also check this site for more information about pronnunciation ;)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interna...netic_Alphabet

Hope you understand what I meen. I am studying German grammar including Phonetic and so on but I think my skills in explaining it to others are a bit poor.

ja ne

slashess 19th April 2006 08:40 PM

actually...it is pronounced that way, but it is indeed spelled that way considering in Iceland they probably have a different system of writing words and what not.

Lord M 20th April 2006 02:22 AM

The proper pronunciation of Björk would be... Byairrrk. the ö is pronounced like the "a" in "air" & the r is rolled out and a sharp k at the end.

Sjáumst síðar, bless allir! :)

PickleCookies 20th April 2006 04:41 AM

I watched a lot of her appearances on Icelandic TV and I think your description is very close but it is still a bit different.

I do not think that it is sooooooo important to speak her name out like Icelandic people do.
The most important thing is that you like her... even if you call her [byerk] or [byo-ork] or just [byork] or something.

The most interesting thing about her name for me was that it means "birch" (the tree) which is a very beautyful that can reach an age of about 40 or 60 years. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Birch )

Another thing: Last December a re-release of her albums in 5.1 was announced and that it was planned for spring 2006. But there were no news on this for so long time and I really wonder what happened about this. I was very excited when I read about this plan and that she just finished remixing her albums on Iceland.

This is not all together true... as I speak perfect Icelandic I can assure you that the "ö" is pronounced differently than a standard "o". The o-diaeresis in zoölogy & coöperate is a carryover from old english and used mainly for impact... Incidentialy Icelandic is almost identical to Old English, as both came from the same source... Icelandic however has gone through almost no linguistic transformation from the day's of settlement - to modern times, compaired to Englishes 3 periods & 4 major branch's.

But yeh... It dosen't matter how in the world you pronounce Björk's name... it's the music that matters! :D
