Wow, its stil dropping. At least she crossed 850k already..

Raleigh 29th March 2006 09:48 PM

Well yes. At this rate it'll take ages to reach 900,000 copies

What, you expected it to sale better instead of dropping? I think it's kinda obvious it's dropping. It's on it's 13th week...

Mad_Cactuar 29th March 2006 09:56 PM

^ Yes I expected it to sell better like Western albums and box office takings after their prime. I just don't figure out how the interest is keep on diminishing. Did Avex pull out all the promotion or something?

Probably so. The promotion wasn't even big in the start. What a shame...

I HIGHLY doubt that the promotion wasn't big...when I was in Japan last year, there were advertisements and billboards for My Story all over the place. You can't really say promotion wasn't big unless you live in Japan and see all of the (or lack of) advertisements.

Well, in the start, there was very little magazine shoots and live performances. All the magazines covers and performances went to the "B&D" single. That's already something.

Aisha_Angel 29th March 2006 10:40 PM

hmm well...it's better as far as how long it took MY STORY to hit 1,000,000. So yeah, just look at it that way I guess...

evildede 29th March 2006 11:37 PM

I don't think anyone should care about sales anyway. As long as you like her music that's what counts. But I think that 850,000 sales is still pretty good and with time it'll probably cross the million.

Qt Mashi 30th March 2006 12:11 AM

thanks for the info, the sales are expected and i don't think the tour changed anything about the sales

well... she was on around 10 magazines around the time of the release... she just should have done lives, I think.

which was around 6-8 weeks...

sexysaucestar 30th March 2006 03:44 AM

Ah, it keeps dropping and dropping...:(

How do movies do better after the first week again?

Western albums stay on the charts for the weeks because singles off the albums are released gradually to boost the sales of the albums. For Japan, the singles were all released before the albums so albums start high and drop low.

pbs1605 30th March 2006 07:25 AM

Thanks for posting.

I clearly did not state that it was supposed to do better than the first week. After some time, box office takings become stable and they earn aound the same amount of money (obviously not much) but for many weeks.

(M)U isn't doing that though. Probably too much to expect it to sell continuously, but I do hope the sales become stable soon. I know it obviously isn't like western albums where albums stay on charts for very very long (Gwen Stefani's L.A.M.B. is still there in the top 100) but it isn't doing like Ai Otsuka's stable sales in her albums.

truehappiness 30th March 2006 09:31 AM

When you think about it, it has been 13 weeks o-o That's more than 3 months, so.. it's expected to not be that high. It's amazing that we can still get the sales numbers :p

jasjasss 30th March 2006 09:59 AM

i just blame this on promotion ...
the promotion song that she used to promote this album was
let me think .. hm .. the lowest selling single B&D ~
+ She didnt even perform new songs from the new album like M(U) or Rainy Day ~ at least for MY STORY , she sung walking proud !!

Maiku 30th March 2006 10:25 AM

i notice ayu never promotes her albums:( atleast not the last two.. just look at how many live's kumi did and no i'm not bringing kumi out for an ayu vs kumi but i hope ayu would try and promote her albums more :(

hallelujah_united 30th March 2006 10:39 AM

She probably doesn't care about sales anymore these days. It seems as if she's releasing material now because it's what she wants to do and has fun doing it. If people don't buy her releases, so be it.

Yes true! However she does need to sell much also if we want to keep seeing her bloody awesome music videos and packed to the brim CD/DVD contents.

darkswordz 30th March 2006 11:04 AM

^ true, i don't think avex would have another high budget pv for Ayu =X which is rather sad :( just because she is not bringing high sales anymore

well they did have the word "best" in the album, so obviously, she had more perfs. BoA's perfs for her OUTGROW album, had pretty much the same number as (m)u i believe

tethevo 31st March 2006 05:02 AM

I think low sales are more due to the fact that this album is more worse in quality than MY STORY. :P

alternarist 31st March 2006 10:50 AM

^ agree.

Kikaru 31st March 2006 05:50 PM

^^Well, I thought Mystory was weaker in term of tracks, but better tied together as an album. M(U) had better album tracks IMO, but was kinda of all over the place.

On the performance thing, I notice that in Mystory, when the did the CD review thing on TV with the clips, they done all the songs. This year they only did the songs with only tracks from the singles...I say Ayu should have performanced Rainy Day or Criminal like she performed Walking Proud...

Well, when I was there earlier this month I didn't see much promotion for (miss)Understood or Startin - not compared to the other artists that had releases out.

Sweer 31st March 2006 07:06 PM

sheesh
sad... I was hoping for it to increase in the sales a bit, but I didnt expect it to loose even more :(

LacusClyne 1st April 2006 12:27 AM

urgh. 150 more to go. that's a very long way!

andre2907 1st April 2006 03:35 AM

I don't blame promotion. I mean, so what she used B&D to promote the album? Everybody already knew HEAVEN, Fairyland and Step You at that point, plus, it's not like ONE performance for Walking Proud would make MY STORY sell much more. The album inclueded a picture booklet in first press! If that's not a big promotion, than I dunno what it is... I mean, Shibuya was packed with billboards; big screens all over Tokyo airing the CM... by now, of course they ended the promotion, I mean, the promotion for any album in Japan is over after a month (well, not for Koda Kumi, but she's the exception). It's so easy for us to say the reason why the album isn't doing very well is because people don't buy albums anymore or because she didn't sing the song we liked in TV shows, well, people, I think AVEX knows better than us and if they tought that was the right way to promote the album, they were probably closer to the truth than us.

That said, at least it was a small drop. No chance her sales will increase again, I think... but I do think it will reach a million copies.

Startin' had a big promotion, I mean, it was the theme song for a bestselling video game (that's a very important tie-in. Tie-in = promotion). Plus, (miss)Undestood was out for a long time and the promotions are over after a month or so :).

Kaiouforever 3rd April 2006 04:26 PM

Why is everyone whining about "low sales?" She's sold over 850,000 copies of this album. I think that's damn good. As long as she can keep putting out high ranking singles and albums that sell like this, she's doing superb.

ayu_fan929 3rd April 2006 09:25 PM

^because the number is the lowest out of all 8 albums

tethevo 4th April 2006 04:36 AM

And it may be the first original album for her to sell LESS than 1 million copies.

darkswordz 4th April 2006 10:42 AM

^there's a first time to everything... =X

oh well. No ORIGINAL album has reached the 1 million mark all year. Ayu's is the highest selling original album of them all so far. That's enough to satisfy me.
