Nami Tamaki's "Result" borrowing from Ayumi Hamasaki's "UNITE!"?

I realize that making an accusation without any convincing evidence was pretty foolish of me as it would result in angry flames or denials from rabid Nami fans.

Well, I now return with evidence that I've gathered using my precious time and bandwidth in order to prove to you that I'm not crazy. I have split off the parts from Ayumi Hamasaki's "UNITE!" and Nami Tamaki's "Result" where they sound almost exactly the same.

If you consider yourself a true Ayumi fan and you weren't able to pick this out, I'm very shocked! It's been years since I listened to "UNITE!" and once I heard "Result", I immediately thought it sounded like "UNITE!".

Thank you in advance for downloading the "evidence" and hearing this "crazy" person out!

Thanks for using "borrow" instead of "copy" or something. i think that's really good. And I agree. Some parts of the tune is definetly carried over. Thanks for pointing it out.

ImpactBreaker 29th April 2006 06:46 AM

LOL :laugh interesting. I hadn't listened to "Result" yet but they do have some simillarities.

Nu-NRG 29th April 2006 06:48 AM

it does sounds similar but only the music in the bg sounds lower pitched
thanks for the clips btw

Kikaru 29th April 2006 07:28 PM

I can hear similarities but they aren't really exactly alike. But interesting...

Mirai Noah 29th April 2006 07:51 PM

I hear it a tiny bit...

Zeke. 29th April 2006 08:17 PM

I definately can hear it! Nami just doesn't do the higher parts like Ayu does but there is definately similarities! Could you upload the full Result mp3?

Echoed_Memories 29th April 2006 09:22 PM

I agree, it sounds similar! Not exactly the same, but I can definetely hear some similarities!

blahh 29th April 2006 09:46 PM

When I frist hear Result..my first thought was that it sounded like Unite. lol.

AyuGAME 30th April 2006 02:34 AM

try to hear this

Calico 30th April 2006 03:55 AM

I just finished watching Result, and while I thought the PV was super sparkly, I definitely noticed the similarities between the instrumental and the verses. But I was pleased to hear that the chorus was completely different. It'll be interesting to see the liner notes for this song.

Beyond the Sea 30th April 2006 04:11 AM

I hear it, very interesting...

SunshineSlayer 30th April 2006 06:42 AM

Yep, the lyrical melody is exactly the same only slowed down in the Nami song. Balsy, considering Unite is one of Ayumi's own compositions - she wrote the melody.

My cousin & I were watching the video the other day & we heard it and were like, "Doesn't that sound like that one Ayumi song"?, ahaha.

ohsixthirty 2nd May 2006 07:12 PM

hrm...it is indeed very similar. not that ayumi has ever released a song that sounded similar to another artist's. :innocent

i wonder why, this kind of thing seems to happen frequently in the jpop scene, but i almost never hear of this happening in the u.s. or other countries?

Perhaps because the american scene is mostly about rap which hasen't got any melody-line at all? :P

hehe, that's certainly one reason. But I think the main one is in the US music industry people will sue you immediately for doing it. You don't hear about too many lawsuits in Japan that are music related.

Another reason I think is the general view on "borrowing" and cover versions. Covers are produced a lot more frequently and closer to releases than in the US (at least from my experiences). Also the pop industry in Japan seems to be dominated by really few people (producers/writers). This doesen't explain how ayu's melodies are being borrowed though, cause she's never written music for any other artist.

Kikaru 3rd May 2006 01:11 AM

maybe borrowing melodies in Japan seems to be more acceptable than in the US? :shrug

stardusties 3rd May 2006 03:31 AM

Someone correct me if I'm wrong :x but isn't "plagiarism" a form of flattery in Japan/Asia? Plagiarism is a blanket term…and I guess it’s just as good as barrowing or stealing or coping.

LacusClyne 7th May 2006 06:39 AM

it just the first verse, so maybe it could be a concidence?

orenji_jaro 10th May 2006 06:24 AM
