Do you think Ayu Will make a comeback with the new Single??

I was wondering do you think Ayu will make a comeback and steal the glory from Kumi and do you think it will sell good.

micster 1st May 2006 12:18 PM

Comeback?
Steal Glory?

Darlin' Ayu is still popular and still gets no.1 singles so you've got the wrong end of the stick

its not a comeback she needs its a hell load of sales

She's still hasn't been selling as much as she used to though. Maybe it's the market climate but if Koda Kumi can sell like a million copies of her album in a week I don't see why Ayu can't with the right songs.

Koda's album was a best album if you don't know.
how much of koda's singles actually hit no.1 maybe you should take a look.
But again I think the sales of Cds doesnt mean much in these days as there's other ways of sales. Online music stores like iTunes music store wasnt counted in the Oricon chart. So the total sales on Oricon doesnt reflect much on the sales of the album/singles.

marty518 1st May 2006 02:42 PM

I think it's ominous that last for all the 2005 singles, everyone was saying "I pray this one reaches 300,000!" and for 2006, it's "I hope it reaches 200,000!"
Next year will we be praying for 100,000?

I highly doubt that this single will give Ayu better sales. She's had a string that's FAR too long of singles that really don't resonate with her past work. And that's fine! It's good to change as an artist, but if the new style doesn't catch the attention of your main fanbase, sales are going nowhere but down!

So, unless this single has a lot of really good and catchy songs like H did, I doubt this single will sell anymore than her recent ones. I hope the songs are really good, though.. I could care less what Ayu's sales are. I just want a decent single!

Qt Mashi 1st May 2006 03:26 PM

yes!! well actually i'm not sure because i still havent heard the songs yet but if this single is good and gets promoted alot more then maybe it's sell around 400 000!!

and yeah i dont think Ayu can make a comeback really....but i hope i am wrong.. :meditate

AyuGAME 1st May 2006 03:28 PM

no...i think she still have her throne...
look at her sales that she still can maintain her position
i believe this new triple A side single can sales more than 350k...
lets hope the best for ayu

freedreamer 1st May 2006 03:35 PM

She is always the queen till now...It is only the sales that is the problem....

If u r saying comeback re: sales, then i dont think so...its impossible to from 100K+ jump to more than half a million...i really dont think so judging on the market now

immel 1st May 2006 03:45 PM

Hard to do comeback when you're still the number one :). It's true though that her sales has gone down a lot, but that's not only because of her popularity decreasing. Today people buy less cd's, not only because of piracy, but because today it's not the same thing to buy a CD as it was a few years ago.

When I was in Tokyo (came back 5 days ago) you could still hear Ayu played everywhere, not only new songs but old aswell. Her songs were played way more than Ai Otsukas latest single. Ai Otsukas single was played a lot on the big TV screens in Shibuya, though, but that's because it's all new.

The last few days before I left Tokyo panasonic started their new D-snap campaign, Ayu's face was everywhere, around every corner, on every subway/JR line... for those who worry, don't, Ayu is still the number one.

There's no-ones face you will see more when you go to Tokyo than Ayus, possibly the face's of all Kat-Tun members together... hehe.

Rather true. I think it's possible for her to make at least 300K sales with this single since it's a triple a-side and it's her 40th single; all she really needs is promotion from avex. I just hope her fans don't set their expectations too high and end up getting disappointed.

AyUmIXx 1st May 2006 05:12 PM

Ayu will always be the legend of the Queen of J-Pop in JAPAN....

ohsixthirty 1st May 2006 05:42 PM

everyone always talks about a comeback...my story was supposed to be her comeback album, heaven was supposed to be her comeback single, and then i think (miss)understood was supposed to be her comeback album yet again. i assume when people talk about ayu's comeback, they basically mean a return to the days of i am..., but in reality, thats never going to happen. ayu isn't in that place any longer, and i think that constantly hoping for her comeback causes nothing but dissappointment when she fails to sell 1 million with her new single or whatever. people are expecting her new single in june to be huge...but honestly, i expect it will sell just like all the others have recently. and if it does better, thats a pleasant surprise.

Raleigh 1st May 2006 06:57 PM

Personally I don't think there's any comeback. She's always on top. She's always selling pretty well. I am not expecting this single to sell a lot but it will sell well. I do believe Ayu has arrived at a point where she can't rise any further. She's on top, she's done it all, broke many records and now she's just releasing music which she enjoys.

"steal the glory from koda kumi" ???? wtf r u talking about. noone has stole anyone's glory.

Cyria 1st May 2006 09:23 PM

Maybe a comeback to last year's 300k singles, but not more than that, IMO.

Paper Doll 2nd May 2006 12:40 AM

one of the things that we like to overlook, but never forget is the fact that...

ayu is almost 30 years old.

the older you get, the harder you have to work over the fresh, young, and bold new faces that pop out each day. surely ayu will still be a legend, but it is unfortunate to say that all legends must die.

don't get me wrong; i absolutely love ayumi and have no thoughts of her dying out any time soon. that woman is a machine!

a comeback for ayu? i don't think there's any need for coming-back! it's a dog-eat-dog world, especially in the media and most ESPECIALLY in japan, and i'm sure ayu can take care of herself. like another person said, she is still the face of japan and is still number one.

.llama 2nd May 2006 01:30 AM

there is no comeback. we hear this about every single release. people will either like the release and buy it like crazy, or they won't.

ayu's already at the top, there's no comeback, there's no where else to go, lol. people keep talking about her making a comeback, and she's going to start going down for reals.

Ayu is still in "that place", definately. Atleast that's how I felt it was like when I was in Tokyo for two weeks, came back 5 days ago. Her album is still the highest selling ones, her singles top the charts for weeks, numbers doesn't have anything to do with it. As I said in an earlier post, buying a CD today is not the same thing as it was a few years ago, artists will have a very hard time to ever get those, insanely high, sale numbers again. To this you can also add piracy. Well, Ayu was "it" back then, she is still in a position that no-one else has been able to reach in Japan. I doubt that, when Ayu is gone, someone will make it to this position again, in a very long time. My guess is that she will always be remembered as the number one, untill someone manage to overtake that place in history.

ph33r 2nd May 2006 04:36 AM

People seem to automatically assume she declining just cause Koda Kumi has a strong run going. All artists have strong runs, or at least most. But after another artist's strong run, the consistently strong will continue to dominate...

None the less, I do expect this single to sell better than her past 2 singles.

hallelujah_united 2nd May 2006 04:46 AM

There isn't any need for a comeback is there? She's still at the pinnacle of the Japanese music industry, and her live tours still sell out at every stop. Plus, she's now making music that she enjoys. How bad could it possibly get? :)

truehappiness 2nd May 2006 05:10 AM

LOL

Well, all I know is promotion = a lot of sales sometimes.

And that Koda BEST got '...wow' promotion while Startin' was ... /bleh.
I don't blame Ayu for the low sales. I mean look at everyone else's first weeks! Shimatani Hitomi and ELT had first week sales in the 10k-ness x.x So disappointing. Hopefully avex promotes their artists more evenly in the coming months.

People look too much at the numbers, how much singles sell today with how much they sold a few years ago does not compare. It's not low sales on todays market, maybe a bit low for being Ayu, but it's still not low.

I belive this single will sell a lot, but I think it will depend very much on what they will name it. Hopefully not something like Beautiful Fighters c/w~.

Well said. I donno what comeback can she possibly make since she's practically a top artist.

^ Yeah, Ayu is still a top artist here in Japan. I mean, her popularity is waning *a little bit* but I think she is well respected in the music arena anyway.

I totally agree, And I don't think that time will come untill a next "golden age of idols", like the one that spawned akina nakamori, seiko matsuda before and Namie amuro, Ayumi hamasaki in the late 90's. If one takes a look at the charts now and compare to the years around 2000 the change is obious. Female solo artists are really fading. I think the only company that has been able to keep the popularity of their females is avex with acts like Ai Otsuka and Koda Kumi. Both hello project and Giza used to have really popular artists that always appeared in the top ten with their singles and usually appeared in the top 3 with albums. There are tons of examples, like Aya Matsuura, Rina Aiuchi, Ami Suzuki, Mai Kuraki, Utada Hilaru etc. This is also very much true for the all girl groups. I guess Ayumi was the first one to start the "more than just a pretty face"-trend, idols with more qualities than medicore singing and being pretty in CMs.

There's no need for a craze when everyone already know about her, hehe. That's why she is the number one.

But it's true what you say, unless Ayu does something incredibly revolutionary, which I think no artist ever has managed to before, there won't be another craze, like during the I am... era. Because when everyone know about someone there's nothing to be crazy about anylonger, to me that doesn't mean an artist is less popular.

Maybe it's just that we've gotten used to the craze? Her concerts selling out in a few minutes is no longer special to us, this year is holding the biggest tour ever in Ayus history, and she has been going on for 7 years! Isn't that a bit crazy? Maybe selling over EIGHT HUNDRED AND FIFTY THOUSAND copies of an album is no longer special, or staying at the number one position on the charts for weeks, what's crazy with that when you've done it with every single album you've ever released?

It all depends on how we think about it :).

Agrees with *Petit*s reply.

alternarist 2nd May 2006 04:39 PM

i dont think ayu can ever return to her days in 2001. but i certainly do hope that her next single will be one that will rock the entire Japan and we will sing praises for that single!! instead of insulting her songs and PV. :(:(

thinkingoutloud89 2nd May 2006 04:55 PM

I think people slowly get to know that all single tracks will be on the album....ayu long time hasnīt had a real b-side...only Remixes...so may thats why sellings arenīt that good^^

addicted 2nd May 2006 06:50 PM

i dont think so cuz everytime i thought so but the result is not getting worse and worse, like step u and HEAVEN i thought it would break at least 500000
copies~~

Raiu-Ayu 2nd May 2006 08:12 PM

I don't think this will be a come back. Ayu doesn't need a come back. I've changed my view on this in the past few days. Ayu isn't selling enough anymore cuz of mp3s and stuff. The songs are still being heard and loved (hello they all went to #1) but people are thinking "Why buy it when I can get it for free?" Everyone thinks like that sometimes.

And the whole thing with Koda Kumi is just because of the 12 singles thing and the fact that she released 2 best albums within 6 months of eachother. That's all.

They are both great artists but Ayumi has been queen since Boys & Girls and I don't think anyone is taking that away, not for a long while at least.

Anywho this next single (if it does become a multiple a-side) will probably get all the attention from the press for a while, and maybe 3 or 4 covers, but with the right promotion there's no reason why Ayu couldn't keep her #1 streek going

ayu_ready? 2nd May 2006 09:28 PM

I dunno...
maybe yes, maybe not, who knows,
darling?!
awww
I don't think she'll do it well

ummm,
let's hope she will!

truehappiness 2nd May 2006 11:51 PM

lol

It's sort of like..

'What comeback?'
She's always been at the top of my list! :] I just want her to keep making music as long as its what she loves. I mean, if she didn't love what she was doing she wouldn't be doing it.

evolution7931 3rd May 2006 12:14 AM

everyone's already said what I think perfectly =] Comeback = o_O.. Coming back from what? Namie Amuro and Ami Suzuki have had comebacks, because they had somewhere to come back from XD.. and CD sales don't measure how popular a person is at all.. For example, on my bus on the way to school, the radio always plays this certain song at the same time everyday and when it comes on I can hear almost everyone saying "I love this song!" and singing the lyrics, but I know for a fact that none of them own the group's album... The point is, the group is super popular among people even though they rarely buy the actual CD.. it's likely simular with Ayu, i mean, the number of CDs bought doesnt show the number of people who like the song =]

fεяnαndδ 3rd May 2006 04:17 AM

Comeback? She doesn't need a comeback. She's already the J-Queen. Who cares if Kumi's getting all the attention right now? It isn't like everybody's forgotten about Ayu. I mean, look at all the people who post here. We're from all over the WORLD, and we're fans of Ayu. Ayu is far from running out of popularity.

truehappiness 3rd May 2006 04:22 AM

Seriously.

Koda Kumi's popularity doesn't look like it will last for a few more years x.x

[We will see with her next studio album, which is hopefully not another BEST x.x] /crosses fingers x3

fεяnαndδ 3rd May 2006 04:26 AM

If it's another BEST, I have a feeling it won't even sell a million copies. She'll just be milking herself for all she's worth.

Ayumi no Yume 3rd May 2006 04:35 AM

No.

edit: truehappiness, don't bash t3h kuu. She's ****ing hawt. She'll be here for a long while; Because even besides her extreme hotness, she's talented.

fεяnαndδ 3rd May 2006 04:47 AM

It seemed like she just did the 12 single collection to boost her single count from 18 to 30. o_o

.llama 3rd May 2006 05:06 AM

I think the 12 single collection was interesting. Even if she did do it to boost her singles from 18-30, she worked for it.

cybermoomba 3rd May 2006 05:17 AM

Comeback? She never left! So no need for a comeback... In terms of sales? Who knows? :shrug If it's a good single then it'll do well.

Endlessoul 3rd May 2006 10:32 AM

I don't know if B'z's fans ever talk about comeback. B'z have been on the top for so many years, have they always been selling well? I have to admit that ayu's recent singles don't sell as well as the previous did, but that don't mean she'll never ever sell well. If ayu gets some really great songs, and good release day provided, why don't Japanese go and buy it? We're always hoping for her good sales. The fact is she needs great songs. So I don't think there is any so-called comeback for her. All we want is good sales. And of course I expect this single to make some changes.

Anywayz every time we get excited for the new single and fall disappointed for its sales I don't think that's bad. At least we're still hoping and expecting.

truehappiness 3rd May 2006 11:19 AM

I think as long as an artist has fans, they're successful. :]

It really only comes to 'OMG THE END' when you have no one left cheering for you. :\

elepop 5th May 2006 05:51 PM

I don't care. I just want great new songs and PVs.

And who cares if "Startin'/Born to be..." was badly promoted? It wouldn't make this single better in any sort. The songs aren't great. The PVs are her worst ones yet... Seriously. It also didn't sale much. Not because of the lack of promotion. It was just bad.

Also... Why more Kuu bashing? It seems like everytime there's a thread related to the sales of a single or album, someone HAVE to bring up Kuu. And someone else HAVE to bash on her. Funny how it's always the same people.

truehappiness 5th May 2006 11:53 PM

:\

I think the songs were "bad" because they were solely like.. 'commercial' songs. Like.. they were made to endorse something and Ayu was like 'agh what fits with this?!' x.x At least, that's what it seems like, since the Onimusha songs were created just for that purpose and the Born to Be.. was for the Olympics.

This time, it's just for Ayu. And hopefully, people are satisfied with them :]

well, ayu's popularity is slipping a little but she's till queen of J-pop. almost everyone who like j-pop has at least a few fav ayu's songs. and it's not really fair to compare her popularity with her old sales. the WHOLE WORLD entertainment industry had been going down.
and i kinda find kumi's 12th singles intersting, it do boast up japan sales and brought some attention to japan music. that's a good thing.

As long as Ayumi is attracting new fans there will always be new people who will want to discuss this topic... heh.

Lumix 9th May 2006 08:49 PM

Lower sales are IMO caused by the three reasons:

1) There are more popular artists like Ayu than in the I am.. era. Kuu, Otsuka, Nakashima, Utada, Gackt, KAT-TUN.. people must decide whether to buy this or this album.

2) She's the queen for a long time. I think that some of her fans might be sick of getting her 40th single and having a full bookcase :D

3) mp3s. There can be a lot of people who really like Ayu but it's not worth for them to buy her album. Money. It's easy even for a 60 yrs old lady to download Ayu's MP3s.

It's not Ayu's mistake at all.

1) well they don't necessarily appeal to the same fanbases. especially JE artists and maybe even Gackt. Mika/Hikki have been out for a while, so its really just ku and ai.

3) actually, i read an article that japanese favour the cellphone while listening to music rather than mp3 players.

anyways, i think a reason is that the songs weren't appealing to many ppl (only appealing to some) so thats y there was a dip in sales for 38/39.

andre2907 11th May 2006 05:23 AM

I really doubt. But I hope it will sell fine, I mean, it's a triple A-side!

Anyway, people, Ayu ISN'T the number 1 anymore. Sorry, but she isn't. I know Koda Kumi last album was a best album but she would probably sell better than Ayu even if the album wasn't. In every 'role model' survey Koda Kumi is in front of Ayu and her fanbase is bigger, no doubt.

BUT, Ayu is still EXTREMELY popular. As people said, her old songs are still played! Heck, what other Jpop female artist went to 1 with all her release for five years?? She's still popular as hell and maybe, 4 years from now, Koda Kumi won't be as popular as Ayu was 4 years after her peak.

The only one who gets close to Ayu is Namie Amuro. Namie is everywhere, still has a big fanbase and everything, after almost 10 years since her peak! But her releases only sell fine, they don't sell really well and don't go to 1 like Ayu does.

Plus, it's not true there's more competition now than in 2002. In 2002, Ayu was the biggest artist in Japan nobody could reach her (besides Hikki, of course), but not because there wasn't any competion, she was just too strong. Now, she isn't 'untouchable' anymore and her fans finally found out the Jpop industry has lots of competition. I mean, in 2004, Orange Range fans probably thought there was any competion too...

I don't think her new single will stop men looking at Koda's "big treasures" (you know what I'm talking about... ( . )( . )...). They have different styles, so, it is kinda independent glory for each one. Ayu will always be the queen and the diamond-voice, and Koda will always be the pretty, hot sexy woman.

It's like a "Learn-To-Be-Hot" :D

miracleofsuzaku 13th May 2006 09:28 PM

^No, I think most of her fans are attracted to her because of her music/voice. As for role-model-wise, I think the girls see her as "erotic-cool," something really different from what they're usually exposed to.
Face it, no one can sell over a million albums without talent. Or...is Ku just a bluff who happened to have sold heaps load of CDs with her "package" alone :rolleyes? I honestly do not think that they bought the albums just to stare at the sexy booklets. I mean, come on, they show really nothing that a pervert would have wanted to see.
And to answer the original question, I say no. Ayu's sales haven't been too "ideal" compared to those from the apex of her career. Unless this single is miraculously a PERFECT piece, then no.

Remember, she was marketed like no tomorrow. It's not just 'mg sex!?@!#!' She was just everywhere. Avex does that a lot. When you are well marketed, you will sell well. Compare Ayu's sales of Startin' with the sales of HEAVEN.. Startin' was crappily handled in terms of marketing.

Koda is now avex's ***** in terms of 'wow, we're gonna use you till we sell 10332302312412312 items.' :[

no, not "learn-to-be-hot". it's more like girl power. and japanese men think it's a threat to their male-dominated society.

i agree with miracleofsuzaku. japanese ppl had to see something in her (ie: talent) over than the physical appearance to make her albums sell over a million copies.

I'm not agreeing that Kumi sells well -only- because of her image, but I think it did play a part in propelling her into the limelight.

Plus, Koda Kumi voice is much more easy in the ears than Ayu. When I show Ayu songs to my friend they always hate her nasal voice but they enjoy Koda Kumi voice. Actually, I think Koda Kumi voice is much better....

And let's not be hypocrite, OK? Ayu image was also very important to sell her music. Yes, her lyrics made a huge impact, but she wouldn't have sold 4 million copies of her best album without her fashionable clothes that every Shibuya girl wanted to emulate and her 'I'm a powerful woman in control' attitude.

I completely agree. Every artist will have their peak and will decline one day. As a jpop artist, Ayumi went for surprising long time after her peak.

Exactly. Ayu has so many fans, that even if a single was badly promototed, they'd buy it anyway. I think it's just the fact that the single wasn't good to begin with.

I completely agree! So many people are concerned with Ayu's supposed inevitable "comeback" yet opt not to support her! I understand some people have income restraints, but Ayu only releases 3 or 4 singles per year, so that's like $50 a year to support her for a years worth of singles.

greggerz189 15th May 2006 06:12 AM

I don't really expect much from this single. I don't care either. As long as it debuts at No. 1 then I couldn't care less if it doesn't break 100k. As long as she's reigning strong with the most No. 1's for females. No one can take that away from her. Doesn't matter how much she does or doesn't sell. Though her 1~million streak has been broken by (miss) unfortunately.

You have no idea how wrong you are on so many of these.. statements.

Bad promotion = bad sales. If you placed your single head to head with some 'omgwowpopularima****' person's album who'd sell more? Obviously the album. I mean, look at BoA's DO THE MOTION sales [one of her most well marketed singles with a lot of songs and etc] and some of her more recent sales.. >>

170,000 vs. 55,000 / 60k / 70k

It's not just 'omg woah this single is good.' cause a single doesn't have to be 'good' to even sell a lot. Hell, some good singles sell like crap! Look at the NANA tie-ups. Both tieup-songs sold WAY above their normal range, in the 400k+ range. Just look at their sales now!

Yuna Ito: [2005.09.07] ENDLESS STORY - #2; 460,000 copies sold
[2006.03.01] Faith / Pureyes - #6; 53,000 copies sold
[2006.05.03] Precious - #3; 39,000 copies sold (still charting)

Mika Nakashima: 23,606 CRY NO MORE / Mika Nakashima

Can you really say 'marketing and promotion don't help a singles sales?' now? It really does matter. And imho, Startin' had crappy promotion. And can we say Koda's stuff was really good before Avex marketed her to the point of boobageness? No, cause in the way you say it.. 'they weren't good enough' >> Only during/after the 12singles thing which was an uber marketing-scheme did Koda actually.. 'succeed.'

Blah. And why the hell wouldn't this single sell 100k+? It's like 4 new songs, with a DVD with PVs.. wtf? Her only competition is MoMusu and TOKIO anyway. >>

And about the whole stereotyping her.. uh. Yeah. It's not like we're all assuming. >> I've watched all of those PVs and they don't really say much when she's got PVs like SHAKE IT, feel, Lies.. and more. x.x Her and being all naked in the shower with some random Latinojapanese guy.. o-o..

Are you trying to say because "BEST ~second session" was released on the same day as "Startin'/Born To Be..." thus decreased the single's sales? Bceause of you are then that has nothing to Startin'/Born To Be... having bad sales at all. Firstly, it's not like Japanese people can only buy 1 CD and they have to choose between an album or a single. If they like the songs on the CD, they buy it, if they don't like the songs, they don't. The latter could be said for Startin'/Born To Be... It's very evident that not a lot of people liked the songs on the single in the first place. And also, please don't tell me they don't have money to buy both of the CD's because these release were announced weeks in advance. You would think people would start saving up money.
Case in Point:
Otsuka Ai's "Planetarium"
vs.
Koda Kumi's "BEST ~first things~"
Both of these CDs were released on Sept. 21st. How did both of these CD's do? "Planetarium" became Ai's second best selling single, selling over 310,000; while "BEST ~first things~" sold 1.7million. If you're logic was applied that another artist's album will affect the sales of your single, then wouldn't Otsuka Ai have sold a lot less?

Secondly, promotion wise, yes, if there's little promotion of the single, the single will not tend to do well. However, I think there's only so far you can go with this arguement. Promotion isn't everything, the songs count as well. In my opinion, even if Startin'/Born To Be... got the promotion that you wanted, the sales would probably still be more or less the same as the songs on it weren't good in the first place.

Thirdly, do these two artists even have the same fanbase?

This goes back to my point in having promotion counting only to an extent. This is within the extent because DO THE MOTION was released right after her BEST album and also right before her tour. However, for the other 3 OUTGROW singles, they all got decent promotion. The reason the first 2 didn't do well because the song wasn't even good. "Everlasting" got 70k is pretty good for BoA, you may think it's low but keep in mind it was released a month before the album.

To be fair to Yuna Ito, "Precious" has already passed the sales of "Faith/Pureyes" in 2 weeks. The single sold more in the second week than in it's first. And, "Precious" will sell more than 100,000.
As for Mika, I believe the 23,606 is her 1st week number, and she never did that well for her single. Plus, I've read people's comments on how the song wasn't good/Blues didn't suit her anyways.

When you say "Koda's stuff" do you mean her songs? Cos I know many Kumi fans think her pre-"BEST ~first things~" material was a lot better than her material after her first BEST album, and this is why "BEST ~first things" is still selling, and will continue to sell as more people listen to Kumi.

You can name those PVs all you want, but I can come back at you with "Birthday Eve", "WIND", and "Koi no Tsubomi". And, I don't see anything wrong with the "feel" PV or even with the "Lies" PV whatsoever.

compared to the period from No Way to Say all the way to HEAVEN where all of them reached 300,000+, no it is not a lot of people as her fan base is really ~300k. if a lot of people did like it, this single would have easily sold 300k+ because it had ayu in it.

I agree on that, but I still think it is a lot. Maybe not for being Ayu, but it's a lot all the same :). But that's just my way of seeing it.

Yukitora 17th May 2006 05:36 PM

I think she has passed the stage where her popularity was unstable... I don't think she can make a comeback because the whole population of Japan have already made their decision about her - she very far from new. The only difference is that her sales drop because she's so old (in the industry). She'll never reach her sales of even 2002 but the fact is, she doesn't need too.

She is still going very strong. I wouldn't say that Koda is stronger than Ayu because she sells better now. Think of what Ayu's done in the past - you can't compare it.

Well, it really has only been two average singles since the 'high 300k' sales, you know?

It might just be an Ayu drought for the Japanese~ :p
I just know that Ayu is gonna be a legend in Japan no matter who pops up to 'challenge' her popularity.

Wow, four pictures. Like I said, she has very few sexual views. Four isn't enough to show me that she's a bad, overly sexual, non-talented artist.

Did I ever say it was just Ayu who was not selling as well? Sure, drama singles and boy-band related singles have been selling a bit above average, but other than that most singles in the top singles list are not as high as that can be, you know?

By now there should be a LOT of 300k+ singles, but I'm just saying now that it could just be an odd coincidence. >>
