Eurovision '06

Eurovision Song Contest

18th and 20th May, is anyone going to watch?

Finland is crazy this year: so freaky and attention-grabbing that there's a chance we won't end up in the bottom five (as has been our tradition).

the3ye 16th May 2006 10:47 PM

Polish participants.... Ich Troje....omg so embarrassing

Mr Lordi must win, they look amazing xd like from Star Trek : D

Cyria 16th May 2006 10:58 PM

This blog in Athens has a lot of stuff about rehearsals and such. I wonder if they'll post during the actual performances?

micster 16th May 2006 11:00 PM

i will be watching~!

UK For Teh Win ROFL

Diddy Dave 18th May 2006 05:38 PM

The UK wont win if they keep picking such bad songs! :( ..
i mean, look at the charts. Germany's entry is #1 in Germany .. The Swedish songs (including the ones they dont choose) do so well .. the list goes on.

and our entry is #13! How can we expect people to vote for us when we dont even seem to like it that much here!?

I got the Eurovision CD today so I'm gonna pick my favourites before the night ;) though i think they will all lose in the Semi final tonight :D

bulmasman 18th May 2006 06:31 PM

the UK entry is oh so terrible i can't believe it. The singer thinks it's a masterpiece, but there's something wrong about a someone who looks middle aged rapping about school o.O. I generally have a good laugh at eurovision, but it's always interesting to see if there's someone good on there.

bulmasman 18th May 2006 07:14 PM

Fair enough then ^^ it's not a bad thing if you like it, it's just really not my cup of tea ^^ (i could go for a cup of tea right now infact)

micster 18th May 2006 07:16 PM

i duno why i like it though

its cheesy and rappy ><

Ooooo tea

[ Melinda ] 18th May 2006 07:41 PM

Oh, the semifinals are tonight. ^__^ I'm from Finland, and I'm interested in seeing how Lordi does. I think some people have made too big deal of it. But Finland has never done good, this time we are at least NOTICED! XD I'm not a fan or Lordi, but I think it was a good choise, since it's so different. It might do well this time.

I haven't heard the other songs so I can't say anything about them or the other countries.

Raleigh 18th May 2006 07:58 PM

I'm certainly going to watch it. I love the Eurovision. With some luck our country will do well :)

Only for the comments by Terry Wogan :D

bulmasman 18th May 2006 08:29 PM

Terry Wogan is the master of eurovision, it wouldn't be the same without him.

Bazaa 18th May 2006 08:32 PM

As always, the portuguese entry is so horrible the I feel shamed >_< Since 2002 we don't have a decent song for the Eurovision...

I won't be watching XD

Edit: And now my sis made me watch the portuguese song. They couldn't even get decent clothes >_< and their singing is awful today XD

Isthan 19th May 2006 12:06 AM

YES! Lordi made it to the finals!

I just love "Hard Rock Hallelujah". Not because they're from Finland but just because they rock! I think Lordi was a perfect choice from us Finns. At last something DIFFERENT to these boring Eurovisions...

dulceku 19th May 2006 12:50 AM

I love Carola song!! n hard rock hallelujah is also cool.

HanabiChick 19th May 2006 11:44 AM

It doesn't really interest me because whoever decided who was going to represent us this year made a weak choice, because the singer isn't exactly the best act we have here. Whatever song it is, it's most likely going to be a boring performance. I'm not even sure if we made it in, probably haven't. We used to have a competition where the public voted for people to represent us, although some of the choices were good, but the songs picked were horrendous (why the hell pick a sugary-message song written by someone in Westlife as a potential winner??? I'm glad it wasn't used). My god, I've just found out that the song we have is a ballad, another sugary-message song... I knew it would most likely be a ballad, but my god the title is awful.

Shiso 19th May 2006 11:55 AM

LORDI totally blew me away! I even woted for them!! They were SO COOL!!

I enjoyed Iceland's performance - really funny and well-thought :)

Kete Ryan was best vocally :)

And Poland... they were better than i expected them to be... but... why were the stupid green-haired weirdo exposing the preignant belly of his lover? That was... not good...

Overall - I think it's great that LORDI made it to the finals. I regret that Kate Ryan and Iceland's performer didn't make it!

Yay for LORDI <3

Ha ha yeah!! I think the song will do quite well, even if most of the nation hates it. Well I guess someone must like it since it won Making Your Mind up and it'll stand out more then our previous entries. It's about time we stopped putting "serious" entries in.

mi|kshake~

Zantor 19th May 2006 05:46 PM

The spanish song is a **** XD and i hate that 3 girls named Las Ketchup.. their only good song was Asereje XDD so im not going to see it.
But some songs from other countries that i've heard are very good!

kaikoroku 19th May 2006 07:57 PM

Yeah, the spanish song is the worse -___- But "Sense tu" from Andorra is great! What a pity she didn't make it to the final...

Cyria 19th May 2006 10:01 PM

Finland is in the finals! In other news, pigs were spotted flying over Helsinki.

I liked Belgium and Bosnia & Herzegovina. Lithuania was bad, though. The songs was meant to be a joke but it was a dull and shouty one.

OMG, Cyria, are you from Finland!?! How come I've never realized...

Well, I still have to mention that Bosnia & Herzegovina's Lejla was simply amazing. They have understood what the word "elegance" means... The song is something I could listen many times, day after day...

I am. :) I think B&H will be getting my vote. Maybe someone has an mp3?

I hope Carola doesn't win - not because she's Swedish, but because the song is so deathly dull.

micster 20th May 2006 09:34 PM

lmao, how crapppie was spain

Tasked 20th May 2006 10:23 PM

Yeaaaaaaaaaaa! Vote for FINLAND!!! They're the best :D:D:D I'm so voting... but yeah, belgium should have made the finale...

In the netherlands, the eurovision is different than for other countries.. We don't send our good bands. Because all dutch bands and artists that go to eurovision have a career-drop because of it... Going to eurovision is a career-suicide for NL. xD....

butttt..Finland or Lithuana must win! :D...... the UK had a nice act too btw xD and norway had a great song and a hot girl xD

ps.... turkey made a pentagram? o.O

Raleigh 20th May 2006 11:06 PM

Interesting performances. Personally I do think it will be a tough competition. Glad to see two Maltese performing here though :D I'll be cheering on both.

Zantor 20th May 2006 11:29 PM

I liked Croatia *-* But im not going to vote because the call is very expensive XD
And dont vote Spain plz! Just let them lose :eviltongu XDD

ame-no-koe 20th May 2006 11:55 PM

~angel*ayumi~ 20th May 2006 11:58 PM

Finnland won -_-

Cyria 21st May 2006 12:03 AM

Hell has frozen over. Finland won the Eurovision contest. The country of the countless last-place finishes has won! And it only took us 40 years.

Halla 21st May 2006 12:07 AM

yay for Finland :P

Helen 21st May 2006 12:19 AM

I cannot believe,Lordi won,this is truly a mircale,yay for us(well mostly for lordi but :D )

Shiso 21st May 2006 12:26 AM

Finland is great! Finland I LOVE YOU!

LORDI RULES!!!

Raiu-Ayu 21st May 2006 12:31 AM

I liked Finlands song but I really like Ukrane's one.

Isthan 21st May 2006 12:40 AM

All I can say now is :D.

I'd really like to see the faces of those who were whining all the time that Lordi will bring only shame to Finland. GO FINLAND! GO LORDI!

And congrats to Bosnia & Herzegovina too, you were great!

All songs were awful :/ There was no life in them... music far away from the voice and in the middle of those two -> NOTHING...simply nothing...
Music and the voice should be together, as a one so you can call it a song but here...music as a wall and the voice somewhere in the front of the stage...horrible... They should do something with this show... Most of countries give 8-10-12 to their political friends :/

Fevenita 21st May 2006 02:47 AM

I still can't believe that Finland won xD. We've always been such big losers what comes to Eurovision Song Contest...

Oh, Bosnia & Herzegovina's song was Lejla? My mum liked it a lot but when the votes came I couldn't remember anymore what B&H's song had been. Lithuania's We Are The Winners was funny, I must admit I liked the song :D It was my favorite after Lordi of course. But what comes to other songs they were just, well, not that special... Just the usual Eurovision stuff, what else you can expect.

Whole Finland must be celebrating, my mum went out a little after the contest and she even saw fireworks somewhere near xD. Hard Rock Hallelujah \m/

I hate it how some stupid magazines have already released pictures of Mr. Lordi without the mask. It can sometimes take away the interest you have, when you see who really is behind that mask. Besided, Lordi wanted that magazines wouldn't release those pics, I think magazines should've respected their request. But like here in Finland, that stupid trash magazine Seiska just doesn't respect anyone or anything. Of course they already had that picture on the cover.

Startin92 24th May 2006 10:19 PM

I'm from Finland but I don't like the thing that Finland won. I hate the band. I hate every Finnish music. Japanese pop is the only good for me!!

spookshow 25th May 2006 07:37 AM

Those outfits are damn freaky for Lordi (is that the lead singer's name or the band's name?)

I love that song! reminds me of the old-school rock -- acdc, kiss -- especially with the outfits!

Bazaa 25th May 2006 08:49 AM

The first thing I thought when I saw Lordi was...
"OMG ORCS!"

But really, it's a good thing they won, maybe the cheesy pop will end in EV =X

Well, here in Portugal we have Blasted Mechanism. Their costumes are pretty crazy too XD

eag1e 28th May 2006 01:20 PM

Lordi was fab and deserved the win, atleast they brought a recycled air into that dieing contest. Lets wait and see if anyone else dares to be diff next year, i for one sure hope so

romance 31st May 2006 09:13 PM

Cyria, congrats! :) I am so happy Finnish group has won! ^^
It may be called deviation, but I just love ur language:D

That caused a big scandal in Finland. I was very amused when one night during the commercials a big "We're sorry, Lordi!" message from Seiska filled the screen. They actually ran an apology on TV. I never saw that before. But then, so many people talked about cancelling subscriptions they had to do something.

Finnish is tough to learn, but it's kind of fun knowing a language like that. :)
