what kind of Rock music are you into?

okay, I just thought I'd make a poll of some kind lol! (I never made a poll so I wanted to make one today just to see if I can do it right ^_^')

Now, the question is "What kind of rock music are you into?"

Now, just so you know, I have the options below in case you don't know what I'm talking about in the options area.

Modern rock (what we hear as of now in the mainstream [Seether, Mudvayne, Disturbed])

Classic Rock (Old rock before the 70's [CCR, Led Zeppelin, Cream])

Metal (Which includes Heavy metal, death metal, black metal etc. Usually involves screaming and loud and fast playing[Metallica, Switchpin, Slayer, Otep, Dinmu Borgir])

Grunge Rock (90's rock that sounds really "dirty"-ish [Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains])

Industrial Rock (Rock music with more techno in it [Nine Inch Nails, Skyndrid])

Punk Rock (Music that sounds really simple and the guys hardly sing [Sum 41, Blink 182])

Emo rock (Emotional rock where it kinda sounds lilke the singer is crying [AFI, Panic! At the Disco, Placebo])

Soft Rock (Just really slow rock [Nazareth, Whitesnake])

Nu Metal (Rock that involves a lot of rapping but hard playing [Linkin Park, Rage against the machine])

Glam Metal (Usually 80's metal that involves the band members wearing tight clothes and lots of makeup [Motley Crue, Poison]

.llama 19th May 2006 09:51 PM

Nu Metal and Soft Rock <3

HvnSntGurl 19th May 2006 09:52 PM

I like most of it. I don't really like Emo. A few songs are ok but don't really like it. I'd say classic rock is my favorite. Can't go wrong with Queen and Led Zeppelin. May I ask since when did HIM become Emo? AFI for sure but not HIM.

.llama 19th May 2006 09:55 PM

You like Queen?! : D

ohsixthirty 19th May 2006 10:15 PM

emo rock and punk rock i guess. :yes

Coelacanth 19th May 2006 11:35 PM

Classic, Soft, and Punk.

HIM is categorized as 'love metal', I thought?

Peruvian_Sky 20th May 2006 12:58 AM

Where's the prog option? On the list, I'll go with metal, but prefer prog-rock and prog-metal overall.

elepop 20th May 2006 01:55 AM

Not sure... I'm into the hitomi type of rock. lol

~Matt~ 20th May 2006 02:25 AM

I like the punk rock:tipsy

Larisa-chan 20th May 2006 04:18 AM

Metal & Grunge rock..

some classic rock too, though I didn't select that choice

sexysaucestar 20th May 2006 04:50 AM

I prefer classic/soft rock. :)

bernardation 20th May 2006 05:01 AM

indie rock, electro rock, whatever... none of my favourites are among the options..

hopeorpain 20th May 2006 07:40 AM

punk/modern

~ayu-cake~ 20th May 2006 08:26 AM

I like bands from pretty much all the sub genre's of rock :S
There's a band from each of the those that I enjoy.
I just generally like rock, the entire thing.
I love Classic Rock lots though <3

Qt Mashi 20th May 2006 12:17 PM

lol i dunno which rock i like umm Ayu's the one who got me into rockish songs so i guess "Ayu's rock"...

spookshow 20th May 2006 02:06 PM

I love Industrial -- Rammstein, Eisbrecher, Megaherz, OOMPH -- hehe I love my German industrial boys

I'm also a fan of modern rock, and nu-metal (but not as much anymore

but my major love is female fronted bands -- Nightwish, Leaves' Eyes, Within Temptation, Lacuna Coil, Theatre of Tragedy etc. I'm not sure what genre they would be but I prefer to think of them as "gothic metal/rock"

hehe and HIM is one of my secret favourites too ;)

I'm more of a pop rock/soft rock person, even though I do listen to most of the other types of rock from time to time as well.

alternarist 20th May 2006 09:26 PM

I thought it was close to punk....:yes

Ayumi no Yume 28th May 2006 11:03 PM

I'm not picky. I listen to anything that interest me. Rock's probably my most listened-to genre, though; Pop comes next.
I'll actually listen to any genre.. but it can't be just only one kind. Some songs in a genre can be crap; one of the reasons I don't place myself in a category as my favorite genre. Music is music. I like it or I don't. That's the way I think of it.

Tasked 28th May 2006 11:07 PM

Nu Metal by far.... And... I don't really know how to call it, but I like it when rock is mixed with pop... like..... Ayu's 'alterna' / 'is this LOVE?' / 'Because of you'.... And a few of the Kelly Clarkson pop/rock songs..

In rock, my favourite bands are:
Linkin' Park - nu rock
Ayu (her rock-side) - poprock?
Kamelot - I like to call it Fantasy Metal.. is kamelot a metal-band?
Red hot chili peppers - Soft rock?

emi♡ 29th May 2006 06:48 AM

Classic rock...metal...i guess...actually, now that i really read the first post post...I really like mostly all of the categories.

I hate all the new rock music...it's not rock anymore...i mean new like emo rock...things like Simple Plan and Good Charlotte...

Taishaku 29th May 2006 07:52 PM

Garage Rock and Brit-Pop. :luv2

Bands like The Bravery, Blur, Franz Ferdinand, Travis...etc. =)

Ryoko 29th May 2006 08:04 PM

I like classic rock and alternative.

However, I must say I like all types of rock, it just depends on the artist or group. For instance, I'm not so into metal, but X Japan and Avenged Sevenfold are exceptions that I love.

Actually, they're considered power metal, but yes, they are a metal band. Anyway, I listen to all forms of rock. I'm a huge metal head. I can listen to anything from Cannibal Corpse (death metal) to DragonForce (power metal) to Iron Maiden (heavy metal), Pig Destroyer (grindcore), etc., etc. I also love stuff like The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Dillinger Escape Plan, Avenged Sevenfold, HORSE the band, and the list goes on. I have stuff like Kylie Minogue right around Cannibal Corpse in my CD collection. XD My tastes vary greatly. Anyway, speaking of metal, if anyone wants to hear any good Japanese metal, I have a couple of great bands on my computer (Galneryus, Concerto Moon, Swarrrm, Sex Machineguns, X Japan, Masterpiece, 324, Gallhammer), so I'll upload some stuff later.

Vinylfantasy 30th May 2006 03:11 AM

I like modern and industrial rock. Emphasis on the industrial.

Halla 30th May 2006 07:16 PM

I'm more into artists than genres , because pretty much in every genre there's someone whose music I like & don't like. I also feel determining genre's is really subjective , I feel it's often a matter of opinion whether a band/artist is " nu post-melodic progressive rock" or "melonic post-progressive nu rock" or whatever :rolleyes

I never stray far from the mainstream , from metal for example I like mainstream metal stuff like HIM & Nightwish.

Blink 182 and Sum 41 are so not punk...

and the closest thing AFI have done to emo was that awful Sing the Sorrow album. They were never really emo and their new album.. I certainly wouldn't call it emo >.< Plus, AFI used to be hardcore punk... tho I'm sorta glad they changed now

Anyway, I listen to a bit of everything except for anything urban so consider me a fan of everything on that list lol

Um...yeah...back on the topic of Kamelot. When I posted earlier saying that Kamelot is considered a power metal band, I had never extensively listened to any of their albums, just like one or two songs. Well, I'm listening to their most recent album The Black Halo, and HOLY FREAKIN' CRAP, it's amazing. Khan's voice is so amazing. I can't believe I waited this long to hear it.

michiAki 5th June 2006 03:36 PM

Indie rock, electro rock, lo-fi rock, folk rock - you know, the types of rock that aren't on the poll. :)

Though I'm with Halla on this on - I don't focus on genres, really. Just artists.

norain 15th June 2006 08:44 AM

I also like Acoustic Rock = Acoustic music converted from Rock music

JesA 15th June 2006 08:52 AM

Nu Metal = ;D

Some Metal, but not alot. x.x

kirika 18th June 2006 06:30 PM

Gothic rock, that's how I'd call it. Plus punk rock & metal from the list. Yup. And folk rock too.

ayu3657 18th June 2006 06:48 PM

I just have to say that everyone should listen to The Sword. They're very Black Sabbath-y with a touch of Clutch in the vocals. And the cover art to their CD is abso-freakin-lutely gorgeous.

^dido I don't have a set genre that I listen too, I listen to everything really.

SunshineSlayer 13th July 2006 11:32 PM

Ok, I love rock so I must be nit picky with some of the definitions given. :)

"Punk Rock (Music that sounds really simple and the guys hardly sing [Sum 41, Blink 182])" If you are making a Punk rock category, you have to list the Sex Pistols and Ramones. Sum41 and Blink 182 aren't really punk, they are more like pop rock. Punk is more about the attitude than the actual music.

"Emo rock (Emotional rock where it kinda sounds lilke the singer is crying [AFI, HIM])" I don't think I'd really classify HIM as EMO. More Modern/industrial.

"Soft Rock (Just really slow rock [Nazareth])" Nazareth is not soft rock. The only soft song that they are really known for is Love Hurts and that was a cover. They are definitely classic rock all the way. Soft rock is something like Matchbox 20 or REM.

Plastic Tree I'm not sure about. Dir en Grey would be Metal/industrial? although I really think Visual Kei is like a genre unto itself. :) And L'Arc is a hard one to classify because their style varies so much - they have some definite metal songs, they've got some power ballads, they've got some industrial, they've got some classic sounding stuff, they have punk versions of their songs, they've got soft rock etc etc. They really are just an all around great rock band. :yes

Linkin Park - Nu Metal/Modern Rock/Metal

bondingo 29th November 2006 11:21 PM

I like Modern Rock and Soft Rock, Grunge when Cocco sings it (and Garbage if you'd consider them Grunge), and Nu Metal (when Lacuna Coil sings it). I also like whatever genre of rock Evanescence is (possibly Epic Metal). I only like female vocalists though, so that rules out many rock artists.

*Petit* 30th November 2006 01:08 AM

paperbag 30th November 2006 01:57 AM

Alternative Rock & Grunge from the 90s. It's the music I grew up listening to :)

extepan 30th November 2006 08:30 AM

i like soft rock the best, such as Embrace, Beth Orton
i am too old to handle very energetic rock!

Mad_Cactuar 30th November 2006 12:16 PM

I have no idea. Someone classify No Doubt, Evanescence, My Chemical Romance, Coldplay, Muse and The Cardigans for me using those options.

Sakura_Genki 2nd December 2006 06:26 AM

I've got into death metal quite recently; Bands like cradle of filth, cannibal corpse and abigail williams.

There's something poetic about weird guys screaming lyrics that you can't understand.

I suppose classic rock. =/

Marquez 7th December 2006 09:54 PM
