First asian artist to break the market?
 

Tila Tequila...with her badly produced tunes, that get to you after you listen to them for a while, and her body. She could be the first asian looking (no Amerie doesn't count, she doesn't look all asian) person to make it. Tila Tequila is #1 Myspace person apparently, and with her tunes and body it seems POSSIBLE she will be number one when her debut releases and a video, which guess with me...trying to beat britney spears or get her status, "why don't you do something" exactly...she gotta do something to attract viewers...and then her album sales...yep yep...Tila could be the first one...now I'm gonna say, she is an alright singer...but if William hung made is but didn't keep it, she probably will...either that or Utada will try to break again.

Tila is a wh0re.

I've known about her for ages (since I had an asianavenue.com profile, long time ago) and I must say, the only reason she'd be "popular" is because she doesn't wear much clothes. :shrug

Not to sound mean but, what does looking Asian have to do with breaking the Market (I mean does have something to do with it, but looking Asian doesnt = Asian)? She might look Asian but isn't her nationality American?

The myspace status does show that she has some popularity, but it doesn’t mean she'll hit big outside the net. She's a personality, she models. She also has her own clothing line. That's why she's popular on myspace, not necessarily because of her music but she might have potential?

Anngun was popular in Europe, but I’d hardly say she broke into the American market.

^ Tila's part Vietnamese, so even if her nationality is US, she's got Vietnamese blood in her.

she's a fourth french and 3 fourths vietnamese, and she got signed to Will I Am from Black Eyed Peas' Record Company. She's been in quite a few rock bands one was called Beyond Betty Jean, and her voice is actually quite pleasant if you give it a chance.

I've never heard of her... her name reminds me of Mexico (Tequila).

She's from Vietnam, and apparently, she rode in a boat to come to America. (Hard to believe, but yeah) She's not a born American, she is-as someone already mentioned-she's 3/4s Vietnamese and 1/4 French. Now ok, you gotta tell me if there has been ANY asian to have broken the market into the USA, as a solo, or maybe as a band. (Although I guess if you really wanted, Hoobastank already broke the market along with N.E.R.D. rapper) but we're gonna leave it as, an asian really hasn't broken the market majorly, such with likes of Britney Spears. And Britney Spears with two kids, someone's gonna take the crown again...and a new artists, and it looks like Tila COULD possibly make it. Like I said, she has a decent voice with badly produced tunes that are ok.

Honestly, it'll be nice to see an Asian person to break into the American music industry, however .. I don't know if they'll be popular or not. We've seen many failed attempts at it already .. :no

As far as this Tila girl goes I'd be ashamed if she was the first to break in to the market. As an Asian music fan I'd rather have Morning Musume break in then her. I can go down a list of better artist then her. If she succeeds I don't think I'd be to happy. I mean people rather listen to her then Hikki?!?! The world must be coming to an end sooner then I thought.

I dunno about you guys, but Asians for my use, and in most western use, is for people who are in East Asia. But that's why we'd go into literal aspects that already, an asians already broke the market. (I'd use Oriental, but me being asian myself, I don't like it so much...maybe I should put East Asian)...I just hope someone from Japan is able to make it...

There's Mike Shinoda from Linkin Park I'd say he's probably the most successful asian in mainstream american music. Jin's album also sold 200k, not much but still something.

I really think she'll break the market. These songs on her myspace I don't think will be on her album, she's on WILL.I.AM's label. So she'll debut probably soon.
