Expensive Videos

Hey Guys...just interested in your opinion! Which Videos do you thinkk are really expensive in making?

-Ayu - Fairyland (we all now that^^)
-Namie - How to be a Girl (It looks so expensive!)

spacelion 8th June 2006 11:06 PM

Here is the list of the most expensive Music Videos ever made. Ayu is #8.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...e_music_videos

ruixiong89 9th June 2006 08:55 AM

Geez ... I don't think fairyland deserved to be such an expensive video. They should have used the money to produce a mega expensive feature on a song like I am ... ! That would totally kickass!

truehappiness 9th June 2006 11:16 AM

Eh. It was the stupid cabin and stuff.

My friend's friend's dad built it in Hawaii [seriously. She got to meet Ayu and all that x.x]

Anyways, I think they should spend 2mil again, but on like.. a movie :]

OMG, thanks!
...
WTF? Madonna's Bedtime Story video cost that much? Its pretty but it certainly didnt seem that expensive.. >.> Scream seemed pretty cheap too.

Keishi 9th June 2006 11:49 AM

lolol
I like it when they said that like all Michael Jackson's Videos that is always ridiculiously expensive

anyway, did the artists pay the music videos themselves? or the produced pay for it? coz I heard that Kuu has to pay all 12 music videos for her Second Session album o.O

sexysaucestar 9th June 2006 01:07 PM

That's an interesting list :P Funny how I've seen most of those videos, too...;) I remember people were talking a lot about how expensive MJ's "Scream" was...it was a pretty awesome video though.

spookshow 9th June 2006 01:45 PM

interesting list -- I didn't expect Fairyland to be that expensive...

not too suprising to see a MJ vid at the top -- he sure knows how to make a kick-ass video

Yeah. Artists themselves pay for the Promotion Video. I remember hearing that the group TLC filed bankrupcy when they made their music video "waterfall" because they went over budget.

Dreamland 10th June 2006 03:39 PM

I'm surprised TLC's waterfall isnt on there because I heard them say at one time that that was the most expensive

I dont understand how fairyland was so expensive

hell I could do that

truehappiness 10th June 2006 03:50 PM

How about you pay for a bunch of people's airfare to Hawaii and transport all that equipment, rent out helicopters, have a cabin commissioned and then BURN THAT COMMISSIONED CABIN down.. among other things. xD

Yeah, you have to remember they BURNED the cabin down. A whole house gone to waste. Together with the curtains and stuff. And I think the cinematography must have cost a lot. Plus the video quality...

Halla 10th June 2006 06:40 PM

pretty much all of those videos on that Wiki list are older & use a lot of CGI. back in the day CGI costed a fortune to make.

these days the pricey musicvids have real sets & expensive locations , like Ayu's Fairyland.

Brittany 10th June 2006 07:40 PM

*gulp* And the artists could spend money on other things.. O_O

So, Ayu pays for all the music videos she shoots or something?

truehappiness 10th June 2006 07:53 PM

I think all artists do, not just Ayu.

Dustie 10th June 2006 10:02 PM

I bet they must have paid something to that whole national park they were in (i think it was it's area, where they shot the cabin scenes) and on insurance -- in case the burning process didn't go that safe... (I would be honestly scared of having that whole thing set on fire, where there's trees all around!)

Dreamland 10th June 2006 10:12 PM

I didnt really see the point of setting it on fire

but hey whatever she likes

truehappiness 10th June 2006 10:13 PM

...nope, well at least about the cabins.

I think that they just rented out the whole place, but that's what usually happens when you do PVs.. either you do that or you use a studio..

I was at the Audabon Bird Habitat myself~ :] It was BEAUTIFUL. :]

Oh yeah, top one is what I took with a little editing. xD

The list is far from complete. And lots of jpop videos are missing. Everybody knows how much Fairyland was because Max Matsuura said that because of the rumours she was going to be fired of AVEX (no record company would spent 2 millions in a video to fire the artist). But we have no idea how much her other videos cost or how much they spent on Hikki's videos (a lot, probably). Even Waterfalls from TLC, as people already said in this thread, is suppose to be on the list.

No, they don't. The rumor about Kuu was that AVEX pay her very little because she made them lose lots of money in the past, because they spend lots of money promoting her but she wasn't selling enough to repay. So now she exploded but she still get much less money than lots of other artists...

It's the record company who pays for the video.

Halla 10th June 2006 10:45 PM

^ 'Waterfalls' music video costed around 1 million US$. it was really expensive at that time. it's not enough to make on that list. also it's only one of the reasons why TLC went bankrupt back then...

Hikki's videos do look expensive , and they probably are in a way. but they use a lot of CGI , which these days is cheaper to use than actual real sets & stuff. I'm guessing that several Hikki videos like Keep Tryin' , Travelling & Sakura Drops are around 1 mil US$ tho.

8. "Unpretty"
Cost: $1,600,000+
Artist: TLC

While their video "Waterfalls" was technologically more groundbreaking, "Unpretty" ended up costing more because the group argued over every little detail (almost doubling the projected cost). The story of the video starts out with women in a plastic surgeon's office contemplating breast implants, but they somehow get involved in a gang fight in a back alley. All the while, TLC sits on these weirdo floating pods while doing yoga chants. Nobody said these videos have to make sense . . .

Floating yoga pods: $60,000
Field of purple flowers: $50,000
Laptop computer animating breast enhancements: $63,000
Flying robot camera: $35,000
Hairstyling: $11,000
Makeup: $25,000
Costumes: $11,000

Ayu's pretty high on this list if she were in it.

Mad_Cactuar 11th June 2006 12:15 PM

I only know that Hikki's You Make Me Want To Be A Man was around 500 000 dollars. It was mentioned in some article. But surely Traveling and Passion would have cost a bomb. Keep Tryin' too.

Keishi 11th June 2006 12:41 PM

& hey, I wonder if when she was shooting the scene where the cabin went down it was like....

"hey this scene is not good enough! guys restart it all over again,
build the cabin again & then burn it again!"

lolol

Dustie 11th June 2006 09:13 PM

"hey this scene is not good enough! guys restart it all over again,
build the cabin again & then burn it again!"

well, she dropped from school after middle school, she became a star at a very young age, she was and is the queen of pop music in japan, she can have almost anything she wants, but I believe she wouldn't be that stupid xD

I gotta admit I'd never think Jacko's Scream video is the most expensive video ever made... it looks pretty cheap if you ask me -- even all those sets...

Keishi 12th June 2006 09:42 AM

lol I mean the director
if they accidentally put the wrong tapes & overwrite the whole fire scene with other scene & then "GASP!"

thinkingoutloud89 12th June 2006 04:39 PM

Did you tought of that the state hawaii (does it count at state?) had also to eb paid because of the fire...what if the fire had taken over the trees...It could have destroyed much of the floras & fauna...and I´m sure they had to get the place back to the old situation with plantig new stuff & so on^^

But really say which videos do you think are also expenisve...not only the ones on the list^^

Well yeah, I guess it could have been solved that way. I'm sure they had to have some sort of assurance...
