Great analysis, thanks! Remember though, (m)u had an extra week, so it technically is a 6 week total and Utada's leading by a long shot.

Plus, BLUE BIRD isn't gonna beat Koi no Tsubomi with the sales dropping drastically every week while Koi no Tsubomi still moves a good number of copies weekly.

Blue Bird is not a 3 a-side single. You're misinformed.

Well I considered the 653k that oricon gave out as 2 weeks, so it's even.

BLUE BIRD is also a 1 A-side single. Koi no Tsubomi just has 1 new song on it, whereas BLUE BIRD has 2. Also, Koi has 2 versions, and BLUE BIRD has 3 versions.

I'm very happy with the 4 week sales. :yes and seriously who cares which single or album beat whos...Kumi is at the top of her career now but Ayu's not.. so it make sense that Kumi have bigger sales than Ayu...its not easy for a solo female artist after all these years in the business still have good sales, and still be at the top with the current popular artist....even though her sales dropped...but I don't care...I'm just waiting for her 10th anniversary:)

Scary how close BB is to KnT. Hopefully m(u) will still be making sales around 1K.

Ayu should of had a drama tie-in. I think those numbers are very respectable in times like these, but I can see that some people will be disappointed.

AYU BEAT KODA this week and that's aLL that matters! =)

and you'd think that since utada's album is her first new japanese album in 4 years that it would have had much larger sales, or atleast i think that. its really good that (m)u is only a few thousand behind considering ayu releases an album every year, haha.

You can pay ORICON for receiving information on sales & positions if they drop out of the top 20. How much you pay determines how much information you get and if you get information after the single dropped out of the charts (top 200).

There was a post about it somewhere recently.

What immel said + the weekly top 30 is on the oricon site free of charge. I get these from JPM and the top 200 ones, I get from Japanese bbs's.

where as ayu isnt as popular but the sales is only 1600 difference..pretty amazing if u ask me

Well, I'd say 4-whateverit'scalled will sell like 248,765 copies, first week.

I think 4 hot wave will sell 300,000, and possibly a million in single sales depending on how its marketed...YAY FOR KODA, she sexy

Well 3 singles did in the past 1.5 years (although 2 of the 3 were Johnny's) and 1 was super close to the million that in reality I think it probably sold a million.

So from reading threads around here, reasons for decreased sales across the board:
1. music industry going down
2. advent of buying songs online

Well I wouldn't say across the board. The RIAJ did state that 2005 was a good year for the industry as I believe album sales went up that year. This year, it looks like single sales might go up this year while albums, not so much. I also think we're at the point where the older/established artists are going down (B'z, Ayu etc.) while the newer/emerging artists are going up (Otsuka Ai, Angela Aki, Kumi etc.) And of course, before (like a few years ago) it was the female solos dominating the charts, last year it was ORANGE RANGE, this year it happens to be Johnny's (and to an extent Kumi).

I'll get in on all this predicting, my guess is 4,884 sales for next week, I know it seems low but its my guess.

at least I found ayu is getting to be a artist who has long time sale for one CD now.after half a year.MU still could sell some,even not that much .But if ayu could keep the sales hundreds weekly till the end of year.its gonna be a great sales of MU 2.Believe in ayu!!!!!!!!!!! by the way I dont care if koda sells more or less than ayu.I just care about ayu.koda is on top now.ayu already been top for many years.but now getting down slowly.but still keep on movin with a not bad sales.so dont compare 2 of them together.its boring...

My BLUE BIRD guess is 3,927 next week.
My 4 HOT WAVE guess ois 672,544 next week.

Amusingly enough, Ningyo-hime's PV is playing right now. And I've pre-ordered the CD/DVD single. But even I think that anything over 250k is excessive. She even got second on the NINKI numbers for next week.

Sorry once again to bring Koda up in this biatch. I really do wish for a bit more sales on BB. Let's hope for some more steady sales next week and maybe she won't drop so much.

Awesome, I didn't think it still sold anything because it was a long time I heard anything about it. Still 700 copies a week is crazy, it dropped down to 1k copies already a few weeks after the initial release.

How much did "Koi no Tsubomi" debuted? If it's around 200,000 copies, than "4 hot wave" will probably debut like... 300,000 copies. Though, I still don't get why it's a single. Looks more like a mini album with all those interludes, intro and outro...

If "BLUE BIRD" sells 5,000 copies this week. It will need a least 2 more weeks to sale 250,000 copies in total. Not bad compared to her last 2 singles.

But enough of "BLUE BIRD". I want a new rock/ballad single! XD Though I kinda wish she releases it around October/November.

Well 'A' is considered a single, I don't see why '4 hot wave' shouldn't be one. (Unless you think 'A' should be a mini-album; in that case, I think that a mini-album/EP should have at least 5 new songs.)

Wasn't Mika Nakashima's Oboro~inori counted as a single too?

I consider "A" as a single because it has the single format that most from Ayumi and other artists have: the songs, the remixes and the instrumentals.

As for "4 hot wave", there's an introduction, and outroduction and an interlude. Since when singles have interludes? That's just weird.

I think of the interludes as.. sort of just possibly voiceless versions of the songs D: Just snippets though. ;D I mean why would they have a real intro / interlude?

IMHO, 4 a-sides probably won't do as well as they once used to.. D:

And I just found out the Ninki rating. :roflmao Bad... I'm guessing Kumi will still be #1, but with less sales. I now expect half the earlier prediction. Anything above 350k would be awesome.

3rd week drop in sales: 60%
4th week drop in sales: 50%
5th week drop in sales: - as expected - 40%

My guesses for next week sales has been correct this far, next week should sell 4,100~ copies and the drop should be 30%.

That'd mean 7th week sales of 3000, 8th week sales of 2700, etc. but I belive the drop rate will rise again soon.

It should hit 250k in 2 weeks.

^Yeah, I'm also surprised the sales actually went up for this month. I thought that when the tour and the promotion of BLUE BIRD ended it would drop out of the charts immediately more or less. It's keeping up really well and in 10 years or so I belive it will have hit a million XD
